Strange! My O2 Orbit was sim unlocked! I didn't do anything. - P3300, MDA Compact III upgrading etc.

I have no idea how come my O2 Orbit became sim unlocked. I didn't do anything apart from upgrad the OS to wm6 official by using SPL (USPL) v.01. And it was sim locked before. Now, I am using an orange sim in it and it works perfectly.
So, maybe your orbit has already sim unlocked. try it.

Erm all O2 phones are SIM unlocked.

Really. Sorry for posting this.

Does new O2 ROM update introduce SIM locking?

I ask because my Exec was unlocked in the UK for O2 and Orange, then I updated the ROM and sold it to someone in Australia (Melbourne), who says they get an 'Invalid SIM Card' error.
Anyone who's Exec *was* unlocked, and who has installed the update, please report
Just tried an Orange sim in my Exec, I have done the ROM upgrade and the Orange sim works fine, so I can confirm that the new ROM does NOT lock the Exec
Regards
The XDA Exec is a bit finiky about SIM's
I have had problems with an older SIM card from T-Mobile USA (16k version), taken from a Motorola V300 gives Invalid SIM Message,
Yet a newer sim from T--Mobile USA from a Sidekick2, (32k Version SIM), works fine in the XDA Exec
So I think you need to tell your buyer that he needs to get a newer sim from his Cellco, Most Cell Companies will supply an updated sim for modern phones if the old sim is not supported, it will not mean any changes in number etc!
Hope that helps

Cingular 8125 on T-Mobile

When i got the Cingular 8125, and before I did the ROM Upgrade to 2.17.7.2 WWE, I did the recommended CID Superunlock. As far as I could tell everything went great. Unlocking this phone, to me at least, meant that I would be able to use it on other non-Cingular GSM networks. A little bit ago a friend who is on t-Mobile needed to use my phone to make a phone call. He put his sim card in my phone and gave it a shot. When the phone started i was getting an error message about a network being locked. I do not remember the exzct wording.
Any ideas if this implies that the unlocking procedure i did di not work succesfully? or am I missunderstanding what the unlock procedure is meant to do? Is there another unlock procedure to make this phone usable with other providers other then Cingular?
Thank you
The CID unlock allows the installation of firmware with a different "brand" than your hardware was sold as. It has nothing to do with the GSM SIM. Use the latest version of lokiwiz to SIM-unlock your phone. Do a search for lokiwiz and read up on it.
use Lokwiz to SIM Unlock it. CID unlock allows you to flash other Roms.

UNLOCKING - the easy guide

Hi everyone.
I have an Orange SPV M700 with WM6, Tengo Free and Tom Tom v6. All working nicely, thanks to all the help on this forum!!
I have one last problem, i have ordered a t-mobile PAYG sim card so i need to unlock my phone for it to work.
I have read the big thread about the CID unlocker and seems some people have been having problems with it uncluding myslef.
Can anyway give me the download that will work or a link to it??? I just want to to able to use t-mobile sim in my phone, but don't want to give orange £20 for privelage.
Cheers a lot guys.
As far as I've been lead to believe once you've flashed the WM6 you should be sim unlocked. That may (assuming I'm correct) be why you've had problems CID unlocking after updating as you're already unlocked.
To upgrade to WM^ i used the three files at the top pf the related thread. Not sure if any of those CID unlocked. Tried a virgin mobiel sim in it and didn't work?
Some phones won't unlock the SIM even with CID Unlockers. HTC, O2 and Voda tend to be unlocked by default; Orange and T-Mobile phones are supplied SIM locked.
I've done the WM6/Radio update and my SPV M700 remains SIM locked to Orange.
I think the only effective way over this is to pay £20 to IMEICheck for a full SuperCID Unlock. Their service is superb if you are willing to pay the price!
Download this and follow the instructions (1 step really) ... http://pof.eslack.org/trinity-unlocker/
Mine is an Orange M700, was SIM and CID locked with original Orange ROM. Ran the above unlocker and could use any SIM on Orangae ROM. Then updated with WM6 and new radio ROM and the phone is still SIM unlocked and SuperCID unlocked. No need to pay any money for this simple thing.

Cool- I'd missed that one! Know he did one for the Hermes
One thing to watch if you are paranoid about Warranties, is that this version works by updating the Radio ROM, which technically is a warranty breach (though as most Orange Techs are so ignorant about these devices, they'd probably not know anyway!)
nice am goin to give it a try
Hi
Check the link on my signature - has SIM-unlocked my Orange UK SPV M700.

Upgrade to new rom

I have just bought a 8125 running 1.8.11.1 rom, 11/24/05. This phone is unlocked and I am using my old AT&T sim. If I upgrade to the new 2.25 rom will my phone still work with the AT&T blue sim.
Thanks so much!!!!
followup
Just checked and it is not cid unlocked. How can this be working with my blue sim?
Will the new cingular 2.25 update diasable my phone.
Thanks so much for your input!!!
Cid unlocking unlocks your phone for using custom kitchens. Sim unlocking unlocks your phone to use other providers sim cards. It is best to unlock both. Use lokiwiz. There is a sticky somewhere in the wizard section of xda that will tell you how to do it. Read everything carefully. Any modifications you do, you do at your own risk. Read the wiki, the stickies, etc before customizing. By reading it, you understand the how's and why's.
If my phone is simm unlocked now and I upgrade rom to 2.25 off HTC cingular sight will it still work with my AT&T blue simm?
Thanks!
As I said before...once cid/sim unlocked, always cid/sim unlocked...flashing different roms will not relock the device...BUT it needs to be both cid/sim unlocked if you are flashing from a kitchen. And yes, if it is sim unlocked, ANY sim will work in the device.

As long as you have a SIM it will work...it does not matter if you have blue, red or yellow...
CID unlock will help to install different OS...READ (I mean READ!!!) the wiki and stickies...
thanks so much for your replies. I did upgrade to the htc 2.25 rom and really dont see much difference and yes the sim still works.
Thanks again

After (USPL) CID unlocked, Still need SIM Unlock?

Looking for the answer.. THanks
The answer is everywhere but ok...
yes you need.
Cheers
Thanks for ur answer But then sim unlock after update the ROM or b4 update??
Your choice...
But it's better you make USPL first just in case...
It depends on your needs if you need a SIM unlock or not.
You don't need it to flash another ROM, you just need it to use a SIM from another provider than the one you bought it with.
example: I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III, with T-mobile SIM lock. If I want to use a SIM from Telfort, O2, KPN or another provider I have to remove the SIM lock first.
I've CID unlocked it a long time ago and flashed a dozen of different ROMs with the SIM lock still on. Just a month ago I removed the SIM lock.
