I would also like to know if it's possible to turn SMS *receiving* off completely (i.e. so that the phone will "refuse" to accept SMS messages but will continue to receive regular voice calls).
Any suggestion?
Cheers!

You could just call your carrier and tell them to turn off sms on your account.

sure , but then again for voice you have unconditional voice forwarding that you can control yourself, whereas for SMSes you have... nothing!
i guess it would be easy to hack the phone to report something like "memory capacity exceeded" when the network tries to deliver a short message and you don't want to receive any messages, but want to still be able to receive phone calls. that would make the network store your message(s) and try to deliver later. i also guess that would be much easier than waiting for your operator to implement something like "unconditional sms forwarding"

dan

There are plenty of applications that will block SMS's. Photo Contacts Pro, SmartBlock, EasyHelper SMS, etc. A simple search would have turned up a ton of them.

If you go into the phone dialing app and go into options, there is a tab for "services" that is listed in there. It give you a number for the "text message service center" - you might get what you want by changing that to 0 or something. Not sure.
But yea, you should be able to call your carrier and have them turn this off. Since they charge you for incoming texts usually, they should have a way to opt out.

changing the service center no will not prevent your phone receiving short messages, it is only used when you send them.
over here operators don't usually charge for incoming text messages (unless it's from a special service). i remember that on the other side of the atlantic things are quite different

Kill sms received notification

Hello, I´m trying to kill by code the notification popup bubble that is shown when you receive a new sms message, just inmediatly when it appears
Is it possible ??
Thanks in advance
This is a problem that the SMS app should clean up. Basically, the sms notification messages tell the phone to do things. For example the message to turn on the new SMS indicator is a blank text message with a subject of
Voice Mail
From
"Voice Mail System" . <[email protected]>
The SMS application should delete it afterward. After Talking to a smart guy from T-mobile Wireless Data group I also learned that this is a function of the Glenair voicemail system. Some upgrades cause it to send these messages as I did NOT get them in the past on my Nokia 8290. Some handsets do this automatically apparently or maybe its just something new.
Of course I may be totally wrong...
other imput appreciated.

There`s a key in the registry (HCUK/Software/Microsoft/SMS/Protocols/..) in which is defined which Application should start when a SMS arrives, standard is /windows/tmail.exe - if you change this key(s), you can redirect the SMS to other programms and the POPups are away. But be carefull: If the Application in the key don`t handle the SMS, the SMS-Text are "lost in space".
Hope that helps al little bit? ;o)

This notification you mention is specific to T-Mo and does only that, wake up. I have tried to kill this little run many times with no avail. For some reason the 2003 OS's except 4.00.10 do not have this as a default. I did not do a system snap in between upgrades, wish I did then I could finally tell what little bastard does this and kill it in future versions if I or other US users are happy being notified only once instead of twice by two different methods that they have a flippin' Voicemail
On MDA there's an Option to turn off the Bubble (but there's also an envelope on top of the screen.
Start->Settings->Sounds&Notifications->Notifications->Post: New SMS
If you remove the hook on "Show Message" further on there is no bubble again

Voice Mail Icon-how to remove

Since i received a voice mail last night, there is voice mail icon always showing on the top bar of today, when i click it , it will go to dial voice mail box number, but i don't have voice mail service, i can not delete voice mail and the icon don't want to go, and every time reset, it will remind me has voice mail. it is really bothered me, i tried change sim card, but useless, any suggestion?
Hi mate,
I have that problems sometimes.
What you need to do is listen to the full voicemail that you have recieved and then either save or delete the voice message. THe problem is that the service provider still thinks that you havnt heard the whole voicemail as you may have disconnected from the voicemail server early.
If this does not help you may need to play with the registry on the phone but that is a subject i cannot help you with.

thanks, i did it another way, i go registry, HKCU/System/state/messegs/vmail/line1/unread, i cleared count value to 0, then the icon is dispeared, then i cleared HKCU/System/state/messegs/vmail/total/unread change the count to 0 also. i have a question is in HKCU/System/state/messegs/vmail, there is a text value, the string is the title of the voice mail i received, i don't know i should delete it or what? what i did now is just let the string be blank. i don't know if it is correct.
Nice on the registry. i was just about frustrated when i found your post.
Thanks

voicenail fix... kind of
Here's my solution for this problem:
1. call your own phone.
2. leave a quick message.
3. wait for the new vm indication.
4. check messages.
5. delete your own message and it will remove the notification icon and change the softkey back.

you are welcome.
Here is why the voicemail icon sometimes gets stuck on:
It's a text message (specifically, a class 0 SMS) which is sent by your provider to tell your device to enable or disable the voicemail notification.
From time to time you'll be listening to your voicemail and you'll hang up at around the same time as your handset receives the SMS and the Universal will be busy doing whatever it does that takes so long when it hangs up and will, for reasons unknown to me, ignore the SMS to disable the VM notification.
The solution to this, as noted by a previous comment, is to leave yourself a voicemail message then call your voicemail and delete the message. Before hanging up, wait a few seconds and you'll see the message come in and remove the notification icon.

annoying issue.

I've just had my touch replaced due to a fault and I have a little problem I cant remember how to fix.
When I send a text message, when you receive the little notification at the bottom to say your text has been sent, its vibrates 3 times as if to say I've received a text. Do you know how to turn the vibration off when sending a text?
I've had a browse and can't find any information on this
thanks in advance.

I have disabled all notifications for sms messages sent, so i'm not 100% sure if what I'm describing below will work as I don't have the option for sms messages succeeded (could be because there is no such setting or because I have already disabled this function).
Anyway, I'm sure it's work a look. Go to Settings\Sounds and Notifications\Notifications. In the Event box, scroll down to the option for Message : Message send succeeded (if there is such an option as there is one for mms) and uncheck the box to vibrate.

Go into Sound & display in manilla. Click on Notification sounds & then select Voicemail on (this is disabled by default). Then go into All Settings > Sounds & notifications > Notifications in Winmo & select a sound for Voicemail. Hope this helps.
Yeah that is on and only gives a one off sound but what about an icon on the task bar??? If I dont here the sound then I have no idea that I have a voicemail!! lol
I get a missed call icon on mine & also have set up with Vodafone to receive a text message. I am using Brians Taskbar. Are you using the stock taskbar?
Missed call icon doesnt tell you there is a voicemail though does it?
I'm using Brians too but only as of today, so I get nothing on that or on the stock taskbar.
Just checked and I too had voicemails waiting, where is the symbol on the taskbar?!

Yeah exactly!! Yet another bloody 'bug' for us poor HD2 users lol
Not quite the same as a taskbar icon... but in all settings > sounds and notification, there's a "display message on screen" option for voicemail
I don't know if the notification system for orange and vodefone is the same as o2, but when i call my o2 voicemail there is a setting for notification types. ONe to send you text, one to call you back and the last one is to send a voicemail notification to the phone.
The last option is what enables the voicemail icon in the taskbar.
I can get the notification with the LED but it keeps blinking after listening to the voicemail (when the message has been leaved with the HD2 turned off only). That's really annoying.

No idea, haven't tried it but I assume it stays on until you dismiss it.
Same problem here with the standard taskbar.Taskbar Icon is missing. Im getting stupid texts such as >@ or [email protected] I wondered what they meant untill I check my voicemail and found 2 messages.
LED Notification
Mate this is a feature!
How did you get it to work without realising?

Sorry i haven't understood.
does anyone have a solution to this?
ive been using my HD2 for about a week now and never realized this either (Im on Rogers network in Canada)
I just did a test by leaving a voicemail:
I get a missed call notification
a SMS about the voicemail
but NO VOICEMAIL icon! (usually looksl like the little tape)
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I've been into the "Sounds and notifications" menu and checked "Phone: Voicemail" and checked off "Display message on screen"
but still no icon on the taskbar?
Anyone know?
I've not found anything yet mate
At least you get a SMS notification!
I've just read through these and I'm thinking you are after the same thing I am. But just to be sure, I'm going to reword what you are looking for. Because what I am looking for (since I also get the missed call, and the voicemail text) is the option to simply tap the voicemail icon and have it dial into my voicemail automatically like I used to be able to do with my htc tytnII. For now I have to go to my phone screen and press and hold one, which I find a pain as some times I don't have time to check my messages right that moment, but I hate turning off the phone with the missed call and voicemail text still there, so I get rid of those, and then forget to check voicemail later. Are you guys talking about the same thing? And has anyone yet found a solution if so?

Send Text to Reject Incoming Call

Still waiting on my DINC while using my WM TP2. I have one well two feathers I like to have on my DINC. I am tech support and get calls all the time:
1. On my TP2 when on a call and a new incoming call comes in I can reject that call with a 'send txt' button and it send the caller a text I pre-created to let them know I am busy. Is it possible to do this on the DINC?
2. There is a free app my TP2 uses to record all calls automatically and it helps me because I cannot not write many times when I am driving or running network in a ceiling so the ability to playback a saved call is huge. Is there a app out there anyone use to record calls on the DINC? (pls do not concern me about the legal side this is for me and me only and there are apps that can do it which I am doing now)
Thx
DINC does at least one of those

This is already built in ... go to PHONE -> MENU -> PHONE SETTINGS
The top entry is "Edit default message" where you would put your pre-typed rejection. Once its in there, on a phone ring, you can go to Menu and click "reject and send message" (or some such thing; cant be sure as I am not getting a phone call as I write this).
