I have GPRS but no Edge? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi,
I had AT&T send me a new 8525 because my vibrate feature stopped working. Out of the box I could only connect to a GPRS network, never did the E come up. My home is in an Edge area and it was doing this with the AT&T factory ROM. I upgraded to vG3ps hybrid rom and I checked to make sure the bands were on auto. I am at work at have a 3G connection and can connect to it. Can someone tell me why I cant get edge?
Thanks!

what radio rom and what os rom are you using?
did you try flashing the radio rom? maybe you are getting edge and just not seeing an edge icon. did you do a speed test?

My Jamin shows "E" instead of "G" after

after updating my jamin with the latest rom the network icon now shows "E" instead of "G" although I dont have EDGE technology and I use GPRS. I successfully made a GPRS connection and after disconnecting it shows "G" for a while then turns back to "E"!!!! anyone experience the same problem!?
this is not a problem. If your network is able to work with Edge, it will appear "E" and than when you connect it will appera "G" (because your device don´t have EDGE). This icon it represents what your network is able to offer.
the problem is; I KNOW THAT MY PROVIDER DOESNT HAVE EDGE!!!

who is your provider? as far as i know all providers in the use who is capable of using this phone on thier network is edge capable. outside of the small mom and pops. cingular/tmobile/cellularone are all edge capable.
sorry just read this thread over at hf.
I've had this . It momenterily shows the E and then reverts back to G. I am with Orange UK and I am in a Strong 3G network cell. I know that Orange are suposed to running edge out to areas with no 3G but not sure when.
I can only assume that it is picking up an edge signal from somewhere. To tell you the truth I wish I saw the E all the time . That would at least give me edge speeds .
This is defo a problem (Well doesn't hinder the phone). I was using my Jamin with copilot which was connected the whole time to Copilot Live via a GPRS connection. If I come out of the copilot screen and initiat a call the G symbol changes to an E . It then reverts back to a G when the call finishes.
Maybe your provider is doing some EDGE testing?

EDGE not working, GPRS does

Hi,
I have bought an uses hw6915 device, which works fine, except for EDGE. I´m connecting to web.vodafone.de (Germany) without any problems while in GPRS. As soon as I´m approaching an EDGE network and the [E] appears, the data transfer is stopped, server can´t be reached but the device is logged into the EDGE network.
Phone works in EDGE network as long as I´m not connected to APN.
Does anyone has a clue? Could the device defective or is it a strange configuration problem?
Is there a way to swith off EDGE in registry?

Perhaps the carrier that runs that EDGE enabled tower doesn't have a data roaming agreement with Vodafone. That would cause you to become disconnected once you hit that EDGE tower.
Just an idea, as I'm not sure how data roaming agreements work in Europe.
EDGE is just an extension to GPRS. and only between both supporting radio's (both network and client device). If you dont see the E for EDGE coverage, chances are you just aint in range of an EDGE enabled transmitter. Most countries that have 3G wont bother using EDGE, orange in the UK say that EDGE is only really used as a fall back when you are out of 3G range.
I dont know of any way to force EDGE use, and if there is Id like to hear it! GPRS sucks!
It was a technical error. HP replaced the mainboard, now it works great...

Only 3g works, need help

Hi!
Data connection works on my phone only when there are 3g available (hsdpa works fine also). On gprs/edge area there are G and E -symbols on the top of screen(!), but any data does not move. I haven't any idea, what is wrong. Gprs and Edge worked fine two weeks ago.
Yes, I have tried an another company SIM-card - 3g still works, 2g does not. Is there any register key or something to put gprs and edge to work again? There isn't any tab on phone settings to switch 2g on/off. Updating radio ROM (from 1.51.00.10 to 1.54.07.00) did not help.
The one and only program I have used (connected to data connection issues) is the newest BandSwitch-program, but is there any change that BS caused that problem?
OS is WM6.
If anyone have an idea to fix this, please let me know!
With best regards,
Teemu

No EDGE signal

hey guys
I just unlocked 8525 to use on T-Mobile network couple days ago.
I realized after unlocking, my 8525 only detect T-Mobile's GPRS signal so far.
isn't it supposed to detect the change of the available EDGE/GPRS?
my old 8125 detects T-Mobile's EDGE signal.
my question is how can I get T-Mobile's EDGE signal on my 8525.
Is there any additional settings to my 8525 so it could get the EDGE signal from T-Mobile?
Thanks guys.
You should be getting it 'E' automatically if it's in your area towers. Also, it could be your 8525 radio version or even your OS Rom (doesn't have the E icon). I get Edge all the time in the states....
Same Problem (FIX)
Hi, i just present the same problem on my 8525, after unlock and Super CID my 8525 just connect to G, no E or 3G (AT&T), i flash back to the original ROM (WM5) and then flash back to the Custom WM6.1 and is back, it works with the E (Edge) and 3G, it work for me on AT&T.

Just Got Phone--Help?

Alright, so i flashed mary's rom onto my phone...
I bought the phone from spain and it is vodafone branded..
I unlocked it and flashed a radio to it..
But for some reason it will only stay on G(gsm) mode.. with an occassional switch to E (edge)..
i know i have Both full Edge and 3G connection where i live..
Does anyone know why this is happening?
it can vary from which tower. if more people are using edge you will get gsm and vice versa
try ringing vodafone and get them to send the settings to your phone
G means GPRS but not GSM.
