Athena Project moving forward... Now with Donation list! - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Hi all.
Been in discussion with the others and apphoen will transfer the funds to me this week. We will (if all goes to plan) be buying either 1 Ameo (near new for £425.00) with 12 months guarantee from a shop (known very well to myself - have done a lot of business with them). I say near new because the Unit is not in an unopened box from T-Mobile, but as far as I know it is in great condition (I will inspect and test it myself thoroughly ).
As the Euro fund stands at around 790 or thereabouts, this only equates to around £531. Not a great start for the next device, but at least the development on a CID/Sim unlocker can begin.
Unfortunately as you are all well aware, in order to get the 2nd device for our ROM cooker Midget, we will have to raise more money as we may have to pay full price (worst case scenario), but I will try within the same shop (franchise) to see if they have other units at their other branches across the country. They had an X7500 a month ago, but I didn't pay much attention as we hadn't started the project.
I prefer to deal with an establishment with a 12 months guarantee and a place I can physically take any potential device back to, if the need should arise. E-bay is great, but personally I like to buy expensive equipment from places where I can return it in person should I need to.
Any objections?
If not, we may have our first Unit this week. As I said...Blow the original supplier with his cheap prices...he was a time-waster and our contributors wasted no time in donating to this cause, therefore it is only right that we don't allow anyone else to hold up progress.
So thanks to all contributors thus far, apphoen, boinger66, ltxda, Midget, Olipro and others who I have neglected to mention. Thanks for your dedication and and hard work. We'll get it done.
Meanwhile you can contribute to the new paypal account which I setup a week ago or so..it's verified and good to go. Why another one, you ask?
Because I'm based in the UK and so are the developers. So I can quickly purchase a device and send off to the devs as soon as I get a Unit (same day special delivery). No other reason. Another contributor can take this responsibility on if there are any objections. But if there are none....you can count on me to do my best for the benefit of us all.
Between apphoen, boinger66 and myself, we are finalizing the mailing system...been a long time coming, I know. But once established it will serve us well in keeping all contributors updated about progress and also any problems developers might face.
Anyway...that's enough waffle from me.
I'll be in touch.
Please don't PM me unless it somehow contributes to the project...just until both devs have their units. It takes me a long time to answer all these PM's and not all are relevant to what we are trying to achieve. I need to stay focused as I have to work for a living too. Hope no one takes offense to this...it's not intended to.

Cool.....let's Rock and Roll!!!

A bit slower than hoped for, but no more than 5 days
OK thanks for your support guys. Funds should now hit my account within 5 working days or sooner and I'll get straight to it...no delaying.
Got another member willing to sell his brand new Insurance replacement Ameo...just trying to come to an agreement on best price.
Either way..as soon as I'm in receipt of the funds, 1 Ameo will be sent off within an hour of buying it. (Will test it first though ).
Still need more donations people, nothing has come through as yet.
If you guys feel more comfortable in donating direct to Midgets paypal account (in his signature), let us know here, that is no problem for me This means he can get one directly as he's next in line for a device after our CID/Sim unlocker 'OliPro'. It's all been discussed and agreed with the devs, as we need these solutions before any cooking can take place.
Let me know peeps...I'm not that hot with paypal stuff anyhow.

It's coming along but we need donations please, to make it come together.
Hi all.
Been in discussions with some of the others including our developer Midget_1990. We agree that it is best for future donations to go straight to Midget's paypal account, but he will set up a dedicated account just for this purpose...to get one Ameo/Advantage or Dopod.
Sorry about mucking you all about, but as there haven't been any donations since the last announcements, it will be easier to donate directly to him. If he can't get a Unit cheap enough, he will transfer the funds back to me to buy him an Athena through the contacts built up through this community or my personal channels. Either way things are moving forward for sure.
Not much else to say right now except that I'm liaising with a few peeps out there for devices and we'll let you know when we've actually got one.
No we haven't forgotten the list at all, it's just that everyone's so busy with work that it hasn't all come together as yet...but it will, especially where it counts most of all...development progress.
P.S. Please be assured, absolutely no-one is benefiting personally from this in any way except when we all share in the end result of this venture.

Hi, just set up the email + paypal account, click the button below
As usual I will provide a list of all donators + amounts so we can keep track, an athena will cost around £420 so lets aim for that!

Nice one Midget_1990. You'll also get the remainder of the funds after the purchase of the 1st Ameo next week. I'll send it via paypal to you account & donate some myself to get this kickstarted again.
C'mon guys were almost there! Development has already started with our devs guys and some of our xda members with regards to SIM unlocking...were just not publicising anything yet until it's a safe and useable solution for all.
We need your money.
P.S. Midget_1990 can you please add the new Doantion code to your signature please? ....just until we have the required funds for the 2nd Athena. Just in case new potential contributors do not see this thread/post? Cheers matey.

C'mon friends we need your support...again
Just donated £20 to help get this kickstarted again.
Thanks for being swift about setting things up Midget. I like the fact that one can also pay by Debit or Credit card.

Yeah, as i said ages ago if you set it up as a non-profit organisation then you can accept direct card payments, no need for an account

Funds are here...
OK all. Funds are cleared in my account £522.98
We're giving the waste of time supplier one more opportunity to come up with the goods and report something positive today, by 2.00 P.M. GMT, else the purchase of another Ameo will be going ahead...no more time-wasting!
Thanks for your patience all and please keep contributing. So far we will have a minimum of £180.00 towards the 2nd Athena if original supplier (with cheapest prices) falls through again. This is based on the remainder of funds with me after a purchase of £400.00 and including contributions Midget has already received.
So either way, we are on target. We'll keep you informed. There will be an update later today.

Update over at the Athena Project
Hi all. There's an update over at the Athena Project (link in my signature). Xda is running very slow for me today...don't know if anyone else is having the same problem?
Anyway it's all good so far. Won't repeat the update here again...too much to do...too little time.

Popularity killed Jeffs kitchen. [...NOT!]

Its 5 minutes after midnight here in UK, Jeffs kitchen is offline unfortunately. I suppose that shows how popular the kitchen and the XDA developers code has become. I thought it might be a good idea if there was a way of making donations to enable the guys (and gals)? to purchase new kit and the odd bottle of beer and bagels. I for one would be happy to donate, on the basis that if a friend helps with the gardening or whatever, it is common courtesy to offer refreshments.
I had thought about posting a "pass the hat" suggestion, guess I'm too late. Certainly it was a valuable service, as this is.
Yeah guys, someone setup a PayPal account the very least we "users" in the communitiy can do it give you a little bit of beer money.
Thanks for all your hard work.
I am overwhelmed by the offers of donations  could one of the developers please post a paypal account or similar please, if possible, so I can get the ball rolling on this.

Diamond Software on ebay

I see some low life #[email protected]# #@#] is making money out of everybodys great development work on Ebay item number 180301613315.
So if nobody minds i thought about placing our own item on ebay exactly the same as this #unt# but for free and with a link directly to this site. What do ya think.

He said it is freeware...
None of those apps have any kind of restrictive license that prevents resale that I know of. In addition he's selling it for 2GBP, which is like.. nothing. I'm surprised he's bothering considering the time it takes to burn the disc and ship it. When you add in free postage, it's clear that he's not making any money on it.
really don't get this! not being undecent on stuff but can't someone just go ahead and download these apps for free online(in cabs), immediately. or are some of the software included sold*like the bubbles-is it the one from spb(is this version full?)
clearification please!
He's trying to get people aware of these wonderful apps? I'm sure people will start googling after they've bought and used them. Therefore, they'll reach this site I think in the end it will help the developers. I think this guy is a good samaritan not a thief.
Nice one

If you have to give money away - donate the developers
and not some idiot burning them on a CD...

donating or selling are they the same ??

wow i carnt post about the jig offer because they at xda keep deleting my threads whats that all about then, and whats the differance with donate and selling c**p. Just because i send it via a package they say no selling, what is donate then, selling or donating your services.:
The donation must be voluntary.
Also this should be in the General section.
Well.. In my case:
I provide Voltage Control application for free;
however some volunteers donated money to me voluntarily, making voluntary donation
Donation is like: you can get the product, no matter if you pay or not.
Selling is like: you can get the product, but you MUST pay for it sooner or later.
Hope it is all clear now
Why not "send" ppl a jig only if they "donate"
Fyi this should go in general.
I can understand where you are coming from. You are just trying to help out the community. If you are selling for a profit, then it is taboo in this forum, and go against the very essence of the spirit of Xda.
Ask yourself this, if you are the one, will you allow this?
Just my 2 cents.

If this about the usb jig to force a dead sgs into download the idea method and all details are already given freely here. He is only selling it to those who cant wont not able to do it on their own. I think he needs to mention this.

Simple question. If i donated a penny then would you send me a jig? If not then there is clearly a set price which classes it as a sale.

Thats pretty sad - if you can publish a cost breakdown to show that you are not doing this for profit but to help the community, they SHOULD NOT remove it. Sometimes people cant wrap their head around a rule to make exceptions. On the other hand - we'd be swamped by ebay vendors "making screen protectors for the community". I think your project is an exception and has to be treated as such.

You see.. unlike software which is "made once and distributable unlimitedly", he has to make 1 FOR you. If he is kind enough to volunteer his services- you can chose to donate for that or not. But to have him cough up for the cost of material and postage - its ridiculous.
Although this is in the wrong section, I do have to agree that he should certainly be allowed to charge a minimum price for it. The components that make up this jig cost him money, he should be able to charge exactly the same price (plus shipping). In this example, he would have freely volunteered his time to build the jig. So users should then be able to donate money to help compensate him for his time, on-top of this minimum price (if they wish).
However in saying that I think some members of this community has the wrong idea in general. Everything doesn't need to be free and generally should not be free. A good community should want to compensate other members of the same community who have helped out the community as whole. The issue is simply that it's not always practical to charge a fee. Even if a community member wants to compensate someone else for their efforts, it's not always possible or practical. There should be no such situation where someone who has been helped doesn't wish to express the basic human concept of gratitude. Money is not always practical, but in the case of a good community some sort of thanks should always be in order. Gratitude is a form of currency also, especially now that XDA has a thanks button.

ok thanks for all replys, origionally i sent an email to xda asking them if i could have a sticky and every sale i would give xda 50p donation which also gives them some support. was i wrong.
As 1 of the readers posted, the parts do cost. At the moment it is quite hard to find the micro USB plugs which are costing roughly between £1.50 and £2.50 locally. The resisters work out at 42p each and there are 2 of them. 1 is a 300k and the other is a 1k. Also the heat sinc tubing is costing about 20p per plug. Then there is the solder, the electric, petrol to fetch the items and finally the postage that works at £1.00. Therefore the is no profit, not to mention that my time to make them is FREE.
All I wanted to do is to support XDA with a donation of 50p for every one sold and help people with illness or bad eyesight or just not the ability to recover their phones with out having to send it back to the service department because of a lack of knowledge in electronics.
P.S. Selecting the wrong pins on the plugs when soldering could potentially wreck your phone and I think it is really courageous of people with no electronic experience to try and do this.
Thanks for all you replys and support. Let's hope XDA support this and give people the chance to support XDA with their donation.
i also believe that because this site is very public and people are free to download the roms it all sounds very easy and things can and will go wrong from time to time.
lets have a safety net.
Right mate. What I suggest you do is put them on ebay and say these are cool on xda, or post them in xdamarketplace. And quit moaning.

who's moaning, i realy dont mind putting them out somewhere else, just trying to put a safety net in the same place as the roms. But do other people think there should be this option.
and why do you care anyway who am i to you.
Although I dont know about whole issue, so just posting based upon info in this thread
Your point is totally valid, but the way you presented it might have been wrong.
You could have proceeded like this
I am giving solution of so and so problem... here are steps
All the steps in details with components required...
With usual warning : Try at your own risk
Those who are unwilling to take risk/lack skills could have asked you to assemble components and mail it by paying cost of components + postage
People happy with service/willing to support you could have Voluntary donated......
ok what i have asked xda is, if people send me the parts with a return envolope i will assemble it and then return it, with donations wecome if you like my work.
this is a free service with no commitment to give me anything.

great minds think alike
I've got a better idea.
I don't know how much your selling these for but lets just say £5
I think you should charge £7.50
The £2.50 is a donation to XDA developers to continue running the site, and then you cover your costs.
Personally speaking, I could get these manufactured in bulk for peanuts if you wanted just PM me and i'll do the work - they will be coming from China though...

Revisiting Chameleon !

I know your wondering why didn't I put this in the original thread. I felt that that post had had it's run & this would be extremely valuable to a lot of people even folks who hadn't read the original. This is an extensive interview with the developer & gives a very insightful overview of the tablet industry. I would really appreciate all of your thoughts/views on it.

Funding Canceled
Funding for this project was canceled by the project creator about 3 hours ago.

They had the member of their team in charge of the amazon payment account leave, so they have to re-open the kickstarter account under a new name, supposed to happen in a few days, below are the updates they gave supporters.
Hi Kickstarters,
What a strange week it has been. We went from a giant high to what might be a big low. Kickstarter is an amazing platform but a really difficult one for anyone outside of the United States. In order to set up a kickstarter account, you have to use Amazon Payments and in order to use Amazon Payments you have be an American citizen. Luckily for us, we had that covered. At least we did until today. As with any team, you can't expect all the members to stay part of the team forever. One team member's departure meant the departure of the Amazon Payment account. We are currently setting up another account and should have that done within a day and we are doing our best to contact Kickstarter to ask that we simply switch Amazon Payment accounts. As of the time of writing this post, I'm not sure if that will work. The worst case situation is that the project gets suspended. Suspended projects on Kickstarter are never renewed.
So, I am sending out this update in case the project gets suspended. If it does get suspended, please contact us at: http://www.teknision.com/chameleon-news. We are fully committed to launching Chameleon. Nothing will stop us from taking it to market. We still plan on honouring you, our backers, who have made this possible. I can only be honest in what is going on and promise to do our best to make everything good.
Keep the faith, fingers crossed and stay tuned.
Hi Everyone.
After speaking with the good folks at Kickstarter, we can now confirm that they will not be able to switch our Amazon payments account - it is simply not possible to 'swap' when you are dealing with credit card processing and authorizations. While it is disappointing, we understand these protocols are there for good reason. To protect your financial information.
Unfortunately this means we will have to manually 'close' this project, and your pledged amounts will not be charged. We are very sorry for this inconvenience -believe me, this is not the kind of customer experience we wanted to deliver.
There is some good news however. Kickstarter have told us we are allowed to initiate a new project and can accept your pledges there!
The only catch is that once we have the new project live, you will have to go and re-pledge on the new project (we will give you the new project link when it becomes available). We understand the inconvenience this may cause, which is why, for your time and patience, we will be upgrading all of the rewards with an additional 5 Chameleon backgrounds. We are aiming to have the new Kickstarter project live by early next week.
I hope you understand, and bear with us as we get over this hurdle. If you are disappointed with us, I understand that too. As I stated before, we have every intention of delivering world class software to our customers. We love the passion that Chameleon has sparked and we intend to develop long lasting relationships with our customers.
Stay tuned for new instructions next week, and thanks for your patience.
Hi everyone!
Today we are working on closing the current Chameleon project. While Kickstarter and Amazon payments have been very helpful and supportive, based on our discussions with them, the best solution is to start a new project. By closing the current project, there is no question about our intentions with your current pledges. You are also free to cancel your own pledge.
We are working to get the new Chameleon Kickstarter project up for next week, so stay tuned.
Even with this project being closed, we will still be able to share the link to the new Kickstarter project. Don't forget, your existing pledges will not be charged. Expect an update next week.
In the meantime, we have included a development update for everyone. With some surprises. So enjoy!
How do Canadians contribute?
Well, that sounds like a massively annoying situation to be in. For someone to leave that suddenly too, doesn't seems like it was amicable...
I hope they can sort out the problems without too many more difficulties.

Interested in Android 5.0/Official CM? Support & Donations needed- P600 Model

17 November 2014: Goal has been reached and tablet is now in the hands of RaymanFX. Still feel free to support and donate to help him continue to prepare for his upcoming works. You can see his progress at github.com/raymanfx and

Hello everyone,
I am creating this thread on behalf of @RaymanFX , a recognized developer who needs a device to develop for us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3463426
He is looking to develop for the P600, WiFi only model and is looking to make AOSP/CM roms and kernels for us.
Here is a previous thread of his: http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/orig-development/rom-teameos-revival-nightlies-t2826587
And here is a list of previous threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=319162976
Quote by RaymanFX:
most of you probably don't know me since I did not develop for Samsung devices for quite some time now.
I would be interested in aiding the Exynos 5420 development scene (in particular on the Galaxy Note 10.1) and prepare a custom Android distribution for it (Team EOS 5.0 - Lollipop).
I can get all the required drivers and binaries I need for development, since most of it is open source luckily.
And the Nexus 10 (manta) can still be used as reference for many things.
All I need is a development device to debug on.
It is particularly important that this is the Galaxy Note 10.1 EXYNOS (WiFi-only variant), and not the LTE (Qualcomm) variant.
I created this thread to ask whether someone has a spare device lying around, maybe because of the little development on Exynos 5 devices, or if people would be willing to donate a device (I'm a university student and unfortunately can not afford the full price for a new device. I'm willing to dive into the Exynos development scene and spend time on this device though, including extensive debugging).
Thank you two for your reasonable thoughts.
I think the main reason why the previous developers stopped developing for this device rather quickly is the Exynos chip.
The main difference between me and anyone else is (or so I believe) the fact that I am especially interested in developing for the Exynos 5420 chip and the drivers for it (mainly from the Insignal forum source).
As far as bricked devices, I can say I had a Samsung device before, and as long as the bootloader is unlockable and access to ODIN (The firmware flashing tool) is granted, a hard brick is rather hard to achieve. I see little risk here, and I assume my previous development experience will prevent me from making major mistakes in that regard.
A new device would cost me approximately 350€, so if we could collect about 300$ with donations (which would equal something like 270€), I'd pay the remaining costs.
People are of course free to check my development history and/or references first and see if they think I would benefit the aosp development scene for this device.
The ROM I mentioned (Team EOS 5.0 lollipop) is essentially AOSP 5.0 with selected features that we code ourselves, like EOS Weather, or the NX gesture interface.
If people however see the need for an official CM maintainer, I'd be happy to become this as well, all I need is a device to debug and develop on, I'd be willing to spend the time to officially maintain this device.
Other developers and/or contributors should also expect support from me in areas of kernel development or AOSP custom ROM development. I believe in 'sharing is caring', so all my knowledge and achievements on this device shall benefit the community.
If some of you could maybe contact the people who raised donations before, I'd be thankful and gratious for the support. All donations will be listed here and the whole process shall be as transparent as possible.

He is very committed to getting this device and developing for us so let's get him this device. He needs at least $300 so just write below how much you would be willing to donate if the funds were raised for the device. I will update this post with the names and how much people are willing to donate :good:
If at least 30 people donate say $10 for example then we can do this easily. I pledge $10 dollars so lets get this started!!

$20 is perfect, any donations are helpful
Yes PayPal. If you look at his profile there's a link there. I'll add your name to the list :good:
Alright, I've just donated 20€ (which equals ~25$ if I'm not mistaken). It would be great, if @RaymanFX confirmed the transaction (I've refered to XDA in the transaction note, but if you need the transaction ID, write me a PN)
PS: I know I said I'd donate 20$, but I figured since he's german, I could just as well donate 20€ instead :highfive:
And I also know that you usually don't donate until enough pledges have been made, but I have faith that we will make it. And if we don't, well, consider it a donation for the effort, lol
Edit: Transaction ID # 89F56830A9644882H
$365 on eBay (refurbished)

thanks for confirming
Btw since you're german, THIS might be an interesting offer (although I'm not sure about the warranty)
265€ = ~330$ (free shipping within germany)
I'll donate 20€ at the end of the month!
You can add me on the list
Is there anyway to donate directly from debit card? Paypal has problems with my card and renders the service unusable.

It depends. If you live in Germany it will obviously be easier. If not, it depends from country to country. What country are you in?
Hi there,
nice to see that at least one person is not scared away by the exynos cpu
You can count me in for 15€
I have a question though:
How is this handled? Are we donating all at once when enough people have expressed their will to donate?
Or should I already donate so that you can be sure that I'm serious?

The donating is a personal thing. I worded things in the op to be safe. It's just easier if people pledge, say they are gonna donate, and then once the amount has been reached people can actually donate.
Say for example, there are no pledges and we raise 200 dollars that people have already donated in a few weeks and then people lose interest and not a lot of donations come in anymore. I don't want people to be angry if the dev doesn't end up getting the tablet. :good:
Better to pledge but if you want to donate right now that's fine. Either way i'll add you to the list
Could you in the title add that this is for the exynos variant. It mislead me into thinking this was for the snapdragon until I read a little.
Ok I'm in for $20. Maybe a little more if we get close! Awesome guys.
In for $30 ?

I just sent $10... hope that helps !
I'm in for $50
Hey everyone,
just letting you know I was donated another 10€ yesterday, so we're at over 200$ now!
That's more than 2/3 of our goal, so there's only 100$ left.
Keep on going, we're almost there now.
Thanks to the community for having so much faith in me and enabling development for this device.
