My configuration is two routers, one as the gateway, and another as a client bridge (bridged wireless-ly - obviously). I have 1 computer after the bridge with IP 192.168.1.8 (static). When my MDA is on, it grabs that same IP address as the other computer. I can surf the outside world, but when I try to access my other computer, it's hosed.
any ideas?
Not sure if this matters, but I've got DD-WRT (linux) on both routers.
Other laptops used connect fine and are assigned they're own IP.

Set the IP to either outside the dynamic IP pool range or give another static IP.
Yeah, what subzero5 said. Either change the static IP to one out side of your DHCP range or if your DHCP is set for the full subnet then change your dhcp range to a smaller one. Say 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150. In most cases you don't need your DHCP so large. Some routers are defaulted to use the entire subnet which is 255 host addresses. Also make sure that dhcp isn't enabled on both routers.

I can connect to the router no probs but IE cant connect to the web. it says "the page you are looking for cannot be found".
Any ideas why I can connect to the router but not to the web?

I know how you feel. There are a couple things you have to do.
First check that you have selected to connect via "work".
Then ensure that the IP address shown is in the range of 192.168.0.X
had no problems with my wifi on my home network, as ale210p said, I think it's with the way your connect via "work" or "ISP" is configured

Is your internet provider checking the MAC address? my provider checks for the MAC address and hence I had to register my MAC address first with the provider.
I'm pretty sure my ISP isnt checking my MAC address as my PC and other computer on the network work fine with regards to internet access and I never gave the MAC addresses to the ISP.
However, my modem router does have mac filtering enabled. I have copied the MAC address of the xda to the allowed list. However I've also tried to turn this filter off and the result was the same....I still could connect to my home wireless network but had the same error message when trying to surf through pocket IE.
Any other ideas on why I can connect to the network but IE wont let me surf?

I'm having exactly the same problem as Richard. What I don't understand is, I can drive around and find free residential wireless hotspots and surf the net , but I can't do it on my own WLAN!

These symptoms could indicate that vital IP info is missing on your XDA.
Does your XDA get an IP address + gateway address + DNS server address from the router's DHCP server? Use vxIPConfig to determine this http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html
I know for a fact that many times (not always) my QTEK 9090 does NOT get the required IP info from my SMC Barricade 2804WBR b/g wireless router, so I started using fixed addresses on my QTEK.
If I use DHCP, many times I can connect to the router but am unable to access the internet... Because the QTEK has not received an IP address/gateway address/DNS server address in those cases. Fixed addresses always work.

i manually inputted the ip address assigned to my xda by the router as i have dhcp disabled on the router.
nonetheless it sill doesnt let me connect to the net but i can connect to the wlan?

Fixed IP address is good, but have you also put in the gateway address and DNS server address? Normally the gateway address + DNS server address = router address.
If your routers IP address would be 192.168.1.1 (quite common address), then your IP address could be 192.168.1.2, gateway address would be 192.168.1.1 and DNS server (name server) address also 192.168.1.1.
BTW; this:
the ip address is 169.254.84.245
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
dhcp server 255.255.255.255 <========= !!!!
means that DHCP didn't work!
I suppose that when you state "connect to the wlan" you mean that you can 'see' machines on your local network? Or what? That would make sense because you wouldn't need a gateway address and DNS server address for that normally (broadcasts).

1. How do I find out the IP Address of the XDA (Is it in Wireless LAN Manager, under "current config" and "IP:"?)

A 1: On your PDA use Use vxIPConfig for this http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html. Unfortunately the OS doesn't have a standard utility for it, like 'ipconfig'.
A 2: Does your router hand out IP addresses at all? Or: is DHCP enabled on your router? If true, do you have the correct drivers loaded for that USB NIC? In Device Manager how does it look? Yellow exclamation mark? Can you post the output of 'ipconfig /all'.
That is interesting, because it was not the first time.
While working on the internet with my Toshiba all of a sudden I get the remark that no connection could be made with my Linksys B router.
Did a repair and everything was fine.
My Jasjar was just laying on the table, not being used.
Opened my JJ and found out that my pocketweather update was three minutes old. So the JJ had triggered the router.
Too much of a coincidence?
I work on different locations, and also my linksys G router and an old Sitecom at the office had given me minor problems.
I will now try not to use my JJ Wifi for a while and see if the problem comes back.
It is good to know that I never ever had problems with any of tjhose routers for a long period.
Could the Jasjar give problems?

Have had a similar thing caused by both devices grabbing the same IP. For example,
- PDA in use and allocated an address by the router's DHCP server. PDA then turned itself off due to inactivity.
- A while later, turned on Laptop. Router allocated the same IP address to laptop, since as far as it was concerned, that IP was now free.
- PDA caused to turn on by a scheduled task, such as timed PocketWeather update. Since the PDA still has the original IP allocated, it will immediately try to regain that IP. Depending upon the router/DHCP server, this may be permitted, in which case the laptop will lose it's IP.

Yes, absolutely. Could be the case. I did check the DHCP table this morning. But both PC and JJ had a new but different number.
Now however I could force another error, which again I never had before and happened on two different Linksys routers.
Looking at the Linksys status I see

Switching off and on the router, without doing any setup solves the problem. So no big deal.
I am afraid that my little Jasjar buddy is doing sneeky things with my router.

So I never had an issue connecting using DHCP. Then I changed my network so everything has a static IP address. I assigned an IP address on my T-Mobile MDA and now it will not connect to the internet. It does however seem to be connected to the wireless router.
When I use IE or Opera it looks for the host then a get an error message. Occasionally it will look up the site and downlaod the webpage but this takes a very long time. Even when I try to connect to my router using the IP address, it does not work therefore its not the DNS entries.
I changed the SDIO adaptor to use a static IP. Should I change one of the other adaptors too?
I have the wireless G hack enabled but even tried with just wireless B.
have u checked and made sure that u have the gateway address inplace? in the connections page check if your proxy server is set up correctly. also make sure ip is within range for the router to use. hope that helps.
In the past I would successfully set an Wi-Fi ad-hoc network between my PC (WinXP) and my phone (WM 6.1, Omnia) and shared my PC's internet connection to the phone. The PC used to get an IP 192.168.0.1 and in 20-30 seconds phone used to get an IP in the range 192.168.0.x and the phone successfully received internet from the PC's shared LAN connection. Both the PC and the device were configured to automatic IP address.
But sometimes (like now) I decide to change the wireless network connection's IP to Automatic (because I like automatic settings) and both PC and phone get IP in the range 169.254.x.x (after long waiting) and the phone doesn't have internet. If I manually change the Wireless Network Connection's IP (on the PC side) to 192.168.0.1, then the device gets the right IP (in the range 192.168.0.x) and everything is fine; it has internet.
The question is why when devices are set to automatic IP addresses they do not get the right ones - 192.168.0.x and the phone doesn't have internet.
EDIT: Ok, today I solved my problem. I found out that re-disabling and again re-enabling the internet connection sharing on the broadband LAN changes the IP setting of the wireless network connection from automatic to manual and sets manual IP 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and everything is fine. So if I change the wireless network connection's IP to automatic obviously I won't have internet and I either have to change it back to manual and enter 192.168.0.1 and subent 255.255.255.0 OR I have to re-disable and then re-enable internet connection sharing and this changes the wi-fi's IP to manual and sets it to (again) 192.168.0.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0

I need about a software, that allow to set multiple WIFI profiles, because in my home i need to SET MANUALY HD2 WIFI with net adress (192.168.1.1 etc.), but when i go out, i need to catch FREE WIFI SPOT so i need to set rapidly WIFI Configuration with AUTO IP (and when i'm at home, return to Manual Adress).
I had tried WIFI Profiles, but i can't understand how i can put AUTO IP ADRESS there.
Please help me !

i'm curious about why you have to use a static IP for your HD2 at home. you can set your home router for DHCP (just like the rest of the WIFI hot spots you like to connect to). if assigning a specific IP to your HD2 or to other machines on your network is important, why not use "static DHCP"? static DHCP is configured in your router and will ensure that each device gets the same IP address every time.
i have configured my home router so that 10 IP addresses are available for machines. the first 5 IP addresses are assigned to specific machines using static DHCP. the rest of the slots are available for guests and friends who occasionally bring their laptops/smartphones to my place and need to get on my network. the router works intelligently by reserving the static DHCP IP addresses only for my specified machines and uses the rest dynamically for unspecified machines.
on top of all this, i have MAC address filtering to keep a tight ship.

I'll try all your suggestions, however the first work fine, i'll fix MANUAL ADRESS on DHCP and put AUTO on HD2.
All work fine now, but i'll try also WIFI Monster when i need only MANUAL ADRESS on my ROUTER.
