Hi
Given the apparent popularity of this device compared to other HTC manufactured, but not HTC branded devices, does the X1 not deserve the standard 3-forum layout on XDA-Dev?
A quick look at the number of viewers here shows that its a popular device, worth modding, and should not be buried away at the end of the forum front page!
I notice that the G1 - which is only available operator branded, and which does not even run win-mob has the standard xda-dev forum layout.
Maybe the forums for some of the ancient devices - Wallaby,Blue Angel (my first WM phone!), should be archived as they see very little traffic these days - their archival would make room for the new breed of winmo devices?
What do others think?

Yeah we've had a thread on this already. They haven't done anything about it yet. I agree there is enough traffic in this subforum to be able to give us our own section.

As with other HTC phones, I have seen apps and ROMs populating the forums, but we are omitting the whole idea behind the XPERIA CONCEPT: PANELS !! I know it is a novel concept (panels itself), but XDA DEVS should lead the pace Ain't ??
I have seen some excelent panel-developing posts starting to pop up recently, like THIS ONE, but a DEDICATED PANELS DEVELOPING SUBFORUM would boost production thru the typical xda-devs knowledge exchange and sharing
Please consider this possibilities, share your ideas, and thanks for reading
Yea I agree, I would like to get back into a little developing but an area where everyone can share Panel development tips/experiences etc would be great.

That's what I mean: a place to talk just pannels
I think it would be a very logical subforum.

Maybe not only for panel development but for all software dev/tweaks.
the current (non rom) forum is too cluttered with non-dev questions, cracks in cases etc.
it's getting harder by the day to get proper tech information and problems solved..

Yea I feel the same. I have read the X1 forum on here since it started and have found it very helpful. It does seem a bit cluttered with noob questions etc, to filter out the general discussion from the Panel/Software development would be really helpful.
I'd rather have the standard Apps and themes, panels can intergrate into that happily. Then this first one can be for people who forget that this isn't a helpline.. I meant for general questions.
It's a format that works across the site so why not change what works?
I've not seen enough discussion on panels to say it merits a subforum yet. Maybe a couple of stickies would suffice for a while?
If you need an extra (sub) mod for it, let me know..

Other forums (check blackstone) DO have separate sub-forums for this purpose
Thus, general questions go to te "general" Blackstone subforum and not in the "DEVELOPING" subforum

first project suggestion - modify the Media Panel to incorporate a home screen, weather and messaging. Would be great to have an SE version of TF3D
I think that a Software, Themes, & Panels sub-forum is definitely possible. I think it's very unlikely that there will be a whole sub-forum devoted to it. Additionally, i'm not convinced that as far as development goes that a stickied thread wouldn't suffice if it was designated for developers. I of course could be wrong, but seeing as how TF3D doesn't even have a sub-forum, i'm gonna say it's unlikely that panels will.

Yes I had that same idea:
Why port TF3D when a similar Xperia panel could be created ??
I've been trying (trying...) to learn a little about panels, but I really miss a dedicated place/thread/subforum/whatever to READ MORE and LEARN MORE and share knowledge -INPUT, I NEED INPUT

I've been lurking on these forums for a couple of years just grabbing the odd file here and there. First I had a Universal, then a Polaris and now an X1. I've found myself getting a lot more involved with the technical aspects of my handsets and Panels was a contributing factor in my decision to get the X1.
I have a basic introduction to programming and yet I came up with a launcher panel in a short time today. Okay, so I had to use the "compiler" at mysonyericssonblog.com but it was almost no effort to come up with a HTML launcher for an application along with it's panel graphics. If a relative novice like me can come up with something, then we're going to get snowed under here with custom panels in very short order.
I agree with gtrab about TF3D... X1 owners should run it as a panel because "our" phone has the ability and we're giving ourselves the option to change the interface in a few seconds. I personally think the cross-pollination of Blackstone apps/interfaces with the X1's can only lead to good things.
I think somewhere for discussion about panels and launchers is a very good idea. If we don't get all the panel discussions collected together, we're going to lose them in the tide of people after free tech support for their shiny phone. I don't mind trying to help out where I can, but I spend more time poring through the XDA-Dev forums than all my other "daily" sites combined.
At the moment I spend most time rebuilding (not only reskinning) the tfl3d interface (which is indeed a panel!)

the blackstone fora does have a 'themes, applications and software' subdevision which separates the crap from the useful things.
if we could get one of those (with the same name) we can separate the creation and alterations from the problem solutions and daily chit chatter.

Still nothing on the SE site regarding new panels...plus the total lack of games/apps that work on the x1.
Its a real shame, dont want to compare it to the iphone...but it has such a wide variety of games & apps in such a short time. I understand its diff for winmo (due to different handsets, specs etc)...but I notice some winmo apps are setup so it automatically goes full screen...which gets me thinking why arent they all like this?
Again, I know apple check all the apps and anybody can make apps for winmo (which is party a good thing)...just seems a bit of quality control wouldnt go a miss.
I also read somewhere MS is setuping up an app store similar to apples...reaaaaally looking forward to that!

I am sorry as I searched the forum for this and actually found 1 hit, but it seems that thread is removed.
So I am thinking about getting the cheap T-Mobile Pulse as second device to try some Android and experiment. As it is Android it should be easy to tweak and give it ROM threatment.
But I don't know how it works here. I know my blackstone gets good attention, but all HTC phones get that over here.
So I was wondering because of the different manufacturer Huawei, will the Pulse get a seperate forum as well and would we see ROM development there, or is this device just to small?
I guess otherwise it would be smarter to wait for a bigger device, which is accessable for a wider audience.
No it wont XDA Developers is purely for HTC Devices.

We heard from a lot of users and moderators on the issue of whether to put all Galaxy S forums under one roof or to offer separate forums for them all.
For the sake of keeping confusion to a minimum plus ensuring that XDA stays as organized as possible, we've officially decided to launch forums for all four variants of the Galaxy S. We expect these four devices (plus the unlocked Galaxy S) to be very popular devices once they're on sale.

Is there any way for them to be all under the same parent forum on the tree so that we don't get heavy fragmentation in discussions? It would make it easier for people to find threads that were for other Galaxy S derived devices that also affected them, but were posted in the other forums.

This. It will be a pain to trawl through 5 different threads for Themes and Apps for example, which will be the same for all devices.

I liked the idea of different development forums And keeping everything else unified. I don't remember any of htc wm phones being separated by carrier. Why separate all of the galaxies?

The Themes and Apps sections will indeed have some redundancy, and we may remove those forums except from the main Galaxy S I9000. Then the trouble becomes that people will post about themes and apps with the OTHER forums like General, etc. So, we'll have to play it by ear and see how things go!
Keep the forums separate, but how about having a universal Themes and Apps topics all linked to the main one here?
can we have all the varieties themes and apps page link to the galaxy s one? Accessories and ROM dev. is nice to have separated but general and apps do not. If a thread poster feels it is phone specific he can just state the variant in the title no?

sorry.. but bad move to create separate forums... we now have to check 5 forums to find what we want.
this reminds me of the G1/Magic32B/Magic32A forums where nearly all development and modding was posted in the G1 forum (dev device), leaving the Magic forums abandoned, or full of links to G1 forum posts for those with 32B radios.
I predict that the Vibrant & Euro unlocked S will be the most used devices, leaving the other forums as good as empty or posted with stuff like "I found this on the Vibrant/S forum".
what about the forum search? will we now need to search all forums? increases the load right?

Precisely.
I see no reason for 5 separate forums. I think a much better idea would have to have a single GalaxyS forum, and add subforums for specific variants as the need arises (if it ever does).
Having 5 forums just wastes everyone's time. It even makes searching useless .

What amazing is they ask for a vote then go against it WTF
I think it would have been best to make them all in 1 forum and then have a sub forums for GSM and CDMA...
or make a sub forum for each device and a main forum for all of them to have a General...
cause there are many issues people are talking about in the Vibrant and the I9000 which are EXACTLY the same...
not to mention we need some stickies with common issues and questions..
On a similar note. The Samsung Vibrant or Galaxy S similar to the european version has 4 haptic buttons whereas the latter has only 2 and the
Big plastic intergrated middle button. Is this something people would prefer and would it be beneficial in the long run of android where it would
have been if the phone was to run windows 7.
BTW.... I Am not pleased that the American market also shipped this with the Avatar Film pre-installed...LOL!
As there seems to be alot of software differences between the chinese and european roms should we not split the sections into each respective area to make browsing easier??

I don't feel that there is such a big difference. The forum is not enough productive to justify splitting. Development, which is yet to come, will be common in a significant part and therefore separating could complicate search. A lot of phone models with bigger difference are joined in one section.

I have a chinese PLK-AL10 but using in EU, the input on the board helped me to get it rooted and provided feedbaack for others, same phone different ROM's but that is normal in these boards.
I don't see any benefit in splitting.
