thinking of getting one - Wing, P4350 General

the old wizards aging a bit now, and i'm considering this. not sure why though...it just has a charm about it. i expect i'll get a touch, but it is the same ti omap 850 processor so come on Atlas guys, talk me into it

______________RB26DETT

My friend's fiance just got one and it is nothing amazing over the Wizard, except for the MyFavs display on the Today screen. Her only gripe is that Phone Pad is not an input option for messaging typing...

isnt this the same as the herald? just the look has been changed?

That is correct. T-Mobile Wing/ HTC Atlas/ HTC P4350 are all the same device

Telus HTC P4000 = CDMA Hermes?

Hey everyone,
I've decided to start a post on this cuz i haven't been about to find much on this recently released phone from telus (a canadian carrier). I currently have an HTC TyTN. However, the touchscreen is completely dead. Since this phone isn't sold by any canadian carriers, it's virtually impossible to get it repaired let alone replaced.
I've recently come across the Telus HTC P4000 which was officially launced by telus in april. I noticed the specs are very similar to that of the TyTN except for the following:
-A CDMA phone without a sim card slot.
-256 mb rom vs 128 mb rom
-64 mb sdram vs 64 mb ram? (**i dunno if the hermes ram is SD)
-a QUALCOMM MSM7500, 384 MHz CPU vs a Samsung 400 MHz CPU.
I'm thinking of selling my X01HT and signing up with telus and grabbing that phone. I could really use some feedback on this idea from my fellow Hermes owners. And could use some help measuring the pros and cons.
So far the major CON of going to this phone would be that it's slightly slower and looks to have ZERO upgradability in terms of OS, RADIO, or any type of rom flashing. Meaning no sweet WM6 upgrades from custel or jasjamming or any of the other cool chefs...
Here are some links:

-user manual (specs can be found here as well)

-engadgetmobile article on this phone
Any feedback or thoughts would be great. Thanks guys...
I din't know how much money you want to spend, but expansys do a good range of phones - including the dopod 838 pro (http://www.expansys.ca/)
I think most of these are phone only, without contract etc but I'm sure you can shop around for something with a contract.
Personally for my style of useage I'd spend out on one of the Hermes varieties.
You could also try ebay - maybe pick up a bargain 8525 or an old hermes to repair yours with.
Good luck
I just bought 2 HTC P4000 for some of our work phones. One has been activated so far, and it is working great. It is allot slimmer than the PPC-6700, which I had last year. I am a newbie when it comes to upgrading these things or doing hacks etc, but I am quite happy with the phone so far. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask me and I will try to answer them for you.
thanks guys,
I passed by a telus store today to check it out. The lady was nice enough to take a brand new phone out of its box and run it for me. I got to play around with it for a while and here are my impressions which are mostly positive:
-the slid out keyboard seems to have some kind of power assist feature (not exactly but you know what i mean, think hiptop) which makes it pretty cool and easier to slid out as oppose to having to manually push up the screen till you hear it lock into place (X01HT)
-The HTC P4000 is virtually the same size except just as twelveca stated, it is slightly thinner.
-same white default htc bootscreen + a telus logo screen and wm5 setup. I doubt the possibility of any kind of upgrade unless there are some crazy chefs out there that get their hands on this phone.
-has FN and CAPS lights just like a computer keyboard!
-black keyboard, dark gray screen housing, and a bumpy pattern on the back for added grip.
-I checked out the device info screen and to my surprise, it said it has a !400! MHz CPU as oppose to the 384 MHz stated in the specs. 64 MB RAM, 256 MB Onboard Flash memory confirmed.
-From the few minutes playing with it, it seems to perform at the same level (if not better) as the HERMES.
-Doesn't show any signs of screen alignment problems.
-EVDO High speed wireless capable.
There ya have it, looks like i'm leaning towards buying it. Just have to get over the idea that i won't be able to upgrade roms (for now at least) or use sim cards...But other than that, it seems like a great phone.
Oh i just found a link to a "Complete" review of the P4000 on HF
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1153541
It includes points i forgot to mention as well as ones i didn't even know of...
Here are some of them (note these are compared to the ut starcom 6700):
"
-dual core processor??
- REV A compatible (with software upgrade which Telus has officially announce they will do)
-more buttons on face and sides
-better one-handedoperation
-bigger battery
-better battery life
-better brighter screen
-better 2mp camera with improved software and settings
-AKU 3.3 which brings with it A2DP among other things
"
P4000
Just recently picked one of these up and have had a couple of days to play with it. I upgraded from an Imate PPC (original 2003 edition) and could not be happier.
This is a rock solid PPC, only wish my GPS hardware was compatable, sigh.
I was a little unsure of Telus but after my fiascos with Rogers, i dont expect them to give me half the grief.
cool, i'll be picking one up probably some time next week...just gotta figure out how i'm gunna cancel my plan with fido and transfer the number over...
...maybe we can start a new forum for this phone when more people have it...
Who that knows as to unlock Telus or P4000 ?
HTC TYTN
ji1386, how much do you want for your broken TYTN?
TYTN
ji1386, if you want to sell your broken TYTN, I could use it for parts if unable to fix it. Send me a PM with your offer. Thanks
I have this phone basically since it came out from Telus, and I must say I am quite enjoyikng it. Best Pocket PC phone out, IMO.
This phone is upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.....however, there is no confirmed release date on when this will be. Also, checking the HTC site will most likely get you nowhere as Telus will need to configure this upgrade to have Telus aspects on there, for instance, The Telsus bootscreen, the today themes, etc.
GPS in HTC P4000
The GPS in this phone someone post what u gotta do to get GPS working on this phone in Stand Alone GPS Mode with No A-GPS.

Htc Touch Coming To Sprint....

I just wanted to let everone know that the HTC touch, Sprint will be calling it the htc 6900 "vogue", it will release october 28th. so if anyone would like to purchase it and/or put the interface on here for we us mogul fans that would be awesome!
Old news
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329094&highlight=vogue
also its not the touch, its a CDMA version of the touch (which i think HTC does call the Vogue)
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=803
the 128mb RAM makes my mogul jealous
No keyboard = No go
see the note above....i said it was going to be called th Vogue. it is badged by htc at Touch however. Most of our internal news has been calling it the Touch...and yes it is the exact same phone with upgrades to memory and onboard apps. also rumored to be having native AGPS.

Goodbey Nike!!

Since there is no WiFi solution for the nike in sight I sold my XDA star on Ebay. Got only 156 € for it. Just ordered a Samsung SGH-i600 now. Is there anybody else who is saying goobey to his nike?

i want to change it..but i don't have money
wifi is very important for me and niki hasn't got it.
unfortunately it was a gift otherwise I would have chosen other.
I don't want to change my device again, I'm in love with my Niki! Only a bigger amount of free MB per month for my data tariff I want!
I'm going to change my device in about six month. Next one will be SonyEricsson Xperia X1 (for now, but may change if another device comes which is better in my opinion) I would buy it immediately and move my XDA Orbit to the trash bin
Best regards

I have to agree.
At the moment, I would defo go for the X1. It's the only worthy successor to my old HTC Universal and the only good reason to bin the Niki.
I sold my for US$260 ... less than what you made. But actually considering a Touch Diamond ... but it is both expensive, and a bit slow. So still searching.
me too. Just have a nike for one day... MSM processor sucks, Video sucks... HTC NIKE SUCKS
why HTC create this???

My 2 cents:
My company has just given me a Samsung SGH-i600 with a Vodafone Sim....
After 2 days my company sim is now in my Niki...there is NO comparison between these 2 devices!!!!...WIFI capabilities present or not there's an abyss...
My Touch Dual will be gone soon after my Touch Pro arrives (hopefully it's released soon!).
I preferred my old touch to the touch dual, but for the 3G... at home, the wifi is important to me, out and about, it's 3g... so I use my old touch around the house with no sim in it, and my dual when I'm out.
Im also looking at the Touch Pro as a replacement.
Im in the mood for some VGA video playback and GPS.
The wifi i less important for me, as my wifi router is turned off(I only use it when my friends come over of when the Wii is online).

Ex-Demo Htc Touch

Hi all, someone offered me a htc touch dual unlocked, but originally telstra network for US$200, do u think this is a bargain or not?
what are they worth new now?
I have an Elf but touch is not working atm, so have to fix... should I get this for a replacement, are they any good?
cheers!
Bought mine second hand, half year old for somewhere around €120, which comes down to US$165. I did not have to look for it that hard. That, and it was a while ago already, so prices should have dropped in the meantime.
So US$200 is not a bargain, but not really a ripoff either. I like this phone, especially the faster cpu and the keypad compared to the Elf which lacks both.
sold mine on ebay a few days ago, great condition for about 150usd with a bluetooth gps receiver so yeah, thats not a great deal

Replacement for Titan?

Well, my Titan (Telus P4000) went for a swim last night and is now dead. Telus no longer carries this model, but is offering me a $300 credit toward a new phone.
I've been fairly happy with my P4000, so I wouldn't mind a similar replacement... but the only HTC models they carry now are the Touch, Touch Diamond, and Touch Pro. Of those, only the Pro has the slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but it lists for $650 ($350 after my credit). The Diamond lists at $299 (free with my credit), and the original Touch at $399.
So here's my question to the group: any thoughts on these other phones and whether I'll find them a "suitable" replacement? I can look at the specs, but those won't tell me how well any of them are going to compare functionally with the Titan (like, if they have sh*tty graphics acceleration, lousy bluetooth support, or no internal GPS).
The hardware keyboard would be ideal, but I can survive without it if necessary. The only other two features I'm concerned about are the "real" GPS, and a spot for my 8GB SD card (according to Telus, the Diamond doesn't have a card slot, but does have 4GB of onboard memory).
And of course, the ability to upgrade the ROM with something like dcd's fantastic Titan ROMs is highly desirable - is there lots of development being done for these other three phones?
TIA for any and all input.
Edit: Oh yeah, they have the Samsung "Omnia" as well, looks pretty nice - really big screen, really thin. No hard keyboard tho. That'll run me about $200 after my credit.
DCD makes roms for the touch pro now.
Good to know, although budget will probably keep me away from that one.
I'm switching to the touch from my titan
i found finger keyboard 2.1 and i love it so it helped me decide to loose the clunky slide out qwerty
plus the touch is only 50 dollars from verizon
here's that keyboard.
