Block net access via 3G network, D810 - WM5 - P3600 General

hey all,
Quick question, is it possible to block the D810 from using Optus 3G network to connect to the net?
I only want to use Wifi due to the charges that optus dish out when using their network.
Any ideas?
Thanks heaps

Hello,
I had the same problem with the 3G because when I open a internet explorer, it connects automatically to the 3G network.
The solution is on the forum : take a program named Bandswitch that allows you to turn off 3G, HSDPA, GPRS etc. That will save you some money and autonomy for your Trinity

hey,
thanks for the reply.
Does the program also stop connection to send MMS though?
thanks

ok cancel the question.
I actually called Optus (and the guy was helpful!!! OMG!!) all sorted.
Just deleted the Optus setting in the ISP and that is all, still can send MMS's but no net access.
thanks.

For anyone else interested, the answer to the earlier post is that Bandswitch can be set to allow/disallow each of the connections individually, so you can block the Mobile Internet APN, but still allow MMS and/or WAP depending on how things are configured by your Telco.

Germany - EPLUS(DEBITEL): GPRS & modem settings?

Hi all.
Does someone know the dial-up numbers and other settings for using the xda
1) for direct mobile internet access (Pocket Internet Explorer)
and
2) as a modem in connection with a laptop
if subscribed to eplus via debitel? Since not familiar with GPRS I don't even know whether GPRS should work with my Time&more package without having to order further services from my provider.
Looking for every bit of information. Thanks, Steffen

8125 wifi (please help)

Hi,
I just purchased the htc 8125 from cingular at full retail WITHOUT a plan
for use on my trips to Hong Kong using my sim card from a Hong Kong
provider.
While in the USA I would like to use the 8125 to access the internet without
a sim card installed and without cingular service. Wifi does recognize available
networks but I cant open any web pages.
Can you please tell me how to configure the phone to do this. I believe it is
by default programmed to use cingular's access services but I want to configure it to work as a stand alone device similar to a laptop looking for wifi signals to connect to the web.
Please help! Thank you.
David
WiFi is not configured to be used with anything of cingular...WiFi is a standalone feature in the PDA...the reason that you couldn't see a web page could possibly mean that the network you connected to had a WEP encryption...u must connect to an open network in order for it to work...
try this
I have been having problems with my wifi too...the only way that I can get it to work is to say the wifi connects to 'work' and to say that programs connecting to the internet should connect using 'My Work Network'
Turn on your WiFi
Start->Settings->'Connections' tab->WiFi or Network Cards->tap the network you want to use->under 'connects to:' chose: 'Work'->next->next->finish->ok
Start->Settings->'Connections' tab-> Connections->'Advanced' tab->programs connecting to the internet should connect using: 'My Work Network'->ok
hope this will work for you and if anyone knows how I can get around having to change this every time I want to go from GPRS to WiFi I would be much appreciated.
Haha - I just found it...someone else just posted it

GPRS or WIFI?

Hi, if both GPRS and WIFI are present which wins? Does WM6 choose the faster connections, ie wifi to surf the web and receive emails?
Are there any settings for this? Many thanks
i'm interested in this too.
I flashed my Hermes with WM6 xesterday, and updated it today with the GPRSSettings via .cab-file.
20minutes ago i recognized the G in my titlebar, an it showed up that WM6 has established a 3G Connection for about 55minutes... does it cost anything if i'm just connected to the 3G network? or do i have to pay for transfered bytes only?
greetings
garfield
I think we only pay for what you download? So gprs can be connected for hours but if you only download one email and view one web page you pay for how many mbs you download.
yes, but what if i set up an emailaccount in the messaging-application, set it up to check my server every 15minutes, and haven't got any wifi connection available. Is there a way to limit my phone to wifi when checking for emails, without removing my GPRS settings? (because i need them for MMS i think)
Sorry, i don't know. Hoping someone can answer my first question:

now I'm not really sure, and probably you've seen it already, but in case not the first post in the following thread might help
The beauty is that Windows mobile knows it needs to use the "GPRS Internet", only when other connections are not present.

Block Data Network, Wifi Only?

Hey guys, I have the ATT 8525 with no data plan. I would like to know if there is a way to block my phone from accessing the ATT data network. If I want to use the internet and so forth I will do it over wifi, I just want to make sure my phone won't access the ATT data network by accident.
Thanks!
Just call Customer Service and tell them you want to request WIX Blocked.
I believe MoDaCo's NoData will do the trick..
Shuts down the data connection but wifi is still available. Made for people going overseas and such without an international data plan.
I'll post it here when I find it...
edit: attached!!
Thanks buddy.. I was also looking for something similiar.
I have a question for you!!
My problem was almost the same. I have my MMS settings and when I activate that in the Connections tab as the connection to connect to the internet inorder to receive or send MMS, then if I try to access my inbox it checks through the data connection eventhough my WiFi is active...
So will the cab file that was posted here blocks the MMS?
Thanks
Jish
yes it stops your phone from acessing any grps or edge networks. i personally just removed the grps account settngs
Unless your provider has some redirect to email feature or whatever, MMS can't be transferred via internet. They need a direct connection to the provider's servers.

Problems using MMS On GPRS (TMUK)

Hi there,
Got my new G1 (BRILLIANT) the only problem is that when i'm using the GPRS network (for power saving) i cant send mms. The problem isnt network related because the sim can send them on 3g using the G1 and on GPRS in my SE w880, a few of my colleagues are having the same problem and were just looking to see if its only us or are other users having the same problems?
Using RC8.
Thanks In Advance
I havent noticed this problem yet, but I could assume its down to the data connection and the "mms data" connection being two different settings.
On my Hermes (WM) I couldnt send a mms without disconnecting my internet connection and allowing the phone to connect to the mms data connection.
WM could be altered to use the data connection to send MMS'. I assume the G1 wants to keep the data connection open all the time (which on 2g/gsm is your one and only connection) and this prevents MMS' being sent.
