I am pretty sure that cingular gives you 30 days to try anything - any handset, any service.

i know a couple of people that have ordered phones with plans and data to get them cheap, then as soon as they activate their account they can go into OLAM (Online Account Manager) and cancel the data plan... and dont get charged for the phone, etc..

well... get a free phone, wait 30 days, sell the phone on ebay for 300-400 and pay the cheaper ETF... i cant see loosing

I got my 8525 like 2 months ago and I was premier eligible but when I saw the price I laughed and didn't add the data and voice to see it go to 0.00.
What kind of argument do you think I can make to cingular to see if they will refund me the phone price? I was able to get the phone for 225 before mail in rebate (100 Dollars) through cingular's tech support. However, do you think I have a shot at getting that 225 back because I have been workign for a company that was and has been certified to qualify for this program.

i dont think you will be able to get the 225$ back, cause phone prices go down over time as newer models come out . imagine everybody wanting thier money back on a phone that is offered for free now...

depends on the agreement with your company, etc... i believe that att employee's can do 4 upgrades per line per 12 months...

Unless there are different deals for different companies, which there may very well be, the deal that I see is a free 8500, I don't see the same free option for the 8525

I also checked my Premier account, and it didn't show any deals like are being talked about on the 8525. I then called AT&T Premier cust. service and was told that the Premier accounts are different for all companies and educational institutions. Each "store is unique".

yeah they are different. Some have ETF and some dont. You have to add the phone and data packages for the phone to go to $0.

Just checked my premiere and it changed to zero after adding everything also but I bought my 8525 when it first came out so I'm not upset.
I'll be waiting for the replacement before I try and upgrades..

some have reported using different emails and getting multiple phones (1 per email) and then combining them on a family plan.

I used 1 email address (my wifes) and bought 4 phones for different family members. Each one had different billing info, and I called at&t and had each one added to the family plan of that family member. Of note is that as these all required having a pre-existing numbers ported to them I had to go down to the local AT&T shop and pickup new (3g capable) sim cards. They noted in my account and I got these free of course.
I kept the data plans, so I can not speak to that.
My only suggestion in dealing with AT&T is if you are canceling an old (out of contract) line, deal with that after you have done the porting. Imply that you are simply switching the numbers as you want to use this new phone as your primary. Once that is all taken care of, cancel the old line. Otherwise they may give you a bit of grief about inter-company number porting, its BS, but that doesn't stop them.

So they will leave a note on your account for no 2 year contract price. (300) So hang up and call business care and talk a manager there is a note on my account for tech support manager and he look at your account and put in the order. Remember for tech support, that let know you had a problem with something .

Amazon.com had 8525s a few months back for $99, $149, and $199. Currently they are at $179.
These do require a new contract or a contract renewal if you are eligibile to renew.

Before our American friends feel compelled to post how the Sprint SERO plan is all this and all that, here is a link to the SERO page. Yeah, we know all about it.
Some of you may or may not be aware, but Bell has introduced a 7$ unlimited data plan. For the longest time I have been nagging Telus to get with the times concerning data going all the way up to the Head Office. Now that Bell has beat them to it, they are suddenly in a negotiating mood. Here is what a simple phone call to customer service got me for 34$ a month:
- Unlimited Data (no restrictions, tethering or otherwise)
- Free incoming calls US & Canada
- 250 anytime minutes
- 100 text messages
- Voicemail 25
- Caller ID

I've been with Telus for 3 years and not on a contract, but it makes no difference. The CSR told me the Canadian wireless landscape is undergoing major changes and Telus wants to make sure all their customers take advantage of it. If you've got a PDA phone, give them a call

I called with the firm intention of moving to Bell saying they have an unlimited data package for 7$. The lady transfered me to another department (customer retentions?) where another lady picked up. She told me Bell's offer came with built-in restrictions and I said what, tethering? She said yes at which point I said that's not a problem, I've got friends on the Internet who can help me hack that. She said I know

I told her about Sprint's SERO packages (she knew about that too) and after looking at my calling pattern she said I never went over 250 outgoing minutes and 100 text messages. I said that would be fine along with unlimited data and she set me up
The plan I got is not advertised, but I think 2008 will see major announcements from wireless providers and why not? Bell, Rogers and Telus are all residential ISPs offering unmetered data and extending it to their wireless packages simply makes sense. I my case, I use data for communications and surfing the web which hardly consumes bandwidth. The teenager next door might download gigabytes of MP3s, but my low consumption balances it out and they know this.
this $7 unlimited data plan is a farse. its false advertising. the touch and all other windows mobile phones are data devices. the plan is unlimited mobile browser. i checked and thought i wasnt being billed for data... the only limitation to the plan being tethering, which i wasnt doing. long story short after a weekend of data use i had racked up $19,000 in data charges. Following borealcool's post, I called Telus and see what it's all about. I was very straight forward with the representatives telling them I read on a forum about the unlimited offer. The 2nd rep I talked to was fully aware of it and explained it was intended for new subscribers and renewals (something of that nature). But still, they kindly gave me the plan eventhough I've been with Telus for just few months. So I can confirm that they do have an unadvertised deal where for 15$/month, you get unlimited Web. But it doesn't apply to tethering as borealcool stated.
Finally!!! I now have unlimited Web from my phone so I don't have to worry about busting my limit! Thanks borealcool for the tip!

As stated above, what I got is not an advertised plan. It's Canadian providers waking up to the fact their ridiculous price gouging can no longer be sustained. It's extremely surprising that Bell set the ball rolling, but I think the Conservative government also had something to do with it by announcing their intention to deregulate the market. The last thing providers want is American competition!
EDIT: Btw, what you said about not having to worry about busting your limit is DEAD ON. I'm not a heavy data user, but I've got enough stress in my life without having to worry about my cell phone's data consumption!

Just an update...Tried again today and had no luck. The CSR told me that they couldn't do anything about my plan because the $15 unlimited email and im is only available to the touch and two other phones that aren't the p4000. He also said that it's only available to new clients with new activations.
I'm guessing they're like this because:
-I'm only 7 months into my 3 year contract
-I can't prove that other people with a p4000 have the unlimited data plan
-I'm completely missing something...
I know a guy on howardforums mentioned that while talking to the CSR he gave them a phone number of another guy that had a p4000 with the unlimited data plan and they were able to give him the same plan...

They are hardballing you and you have two choices:
1. Live with what you have.
2. Hardball back.
If option #2 is in your blood, here's what you do but be prepared to terminate your contract at the cost of 580$ (20$ per month of remaining contract). In any case it will cost more than that in overages so you don't have much to lose. Your P4000 should fetch a minimum of 200$ on eBay. We have number portability in Canada now so if keeping your number is important that's not a problem either...
Rule #1: Remain courteous, patient and polite. CSRs have no gripe against you and most want to help. Call them saying you want to terminate your contract to go with Bell's unlimited data plan. The CSR will transfer you to another, rinse & repeat. The next CSR will either offer unlimited data or, if s/he knows what they are doing, will suggest you sign up with Bell first to transfer your number without interruption of service.

I got the plan!!!!! It took me three days and about 8 reps but finally the last one said yes. Basically what they gave me was the talk to me 30 plan as well as the $15 unlimited messaging and email that now includes data (the data part is unadvertised). I am happy now.
My story called the other day and was flat out told "no". Asked for a supervisor and they said one would call me back.No call from a supervisor yesterday so I called first thing this morning went straight to account cancellations and told Aneshia that I want to cancel my account and get the Bell Touch (BTW I don't even have Bell in my area lol), and that a supervisor was supposed to call me back and never did. She went ahead and offered to look into getting the $15 unlimited plan added and came back after about 2 minutes and said that she would apply it and that I had to change my voice plan becuase my contract says I must spend a minimum of $45/ month. So I got the talk to me $30 plan which inlcludes more than what I get with the base Talk and Email for $45. Thanks "borealcool" for paving the way!

Yeah she did mention one of the reasons they will give it to me is that they are pretty sure they will be expanding the deal to other devices in the future.

i have called Bell about 5 times trying to get them to give me something i can be happy with.
right now i'm paying $100 for my data plan which includes 1gb. that's wayyyyy too much and i told them about the Telus $15 plan. they refused me and i terminated my contract with them as of next month. so anyone that wants to buy a Bell 6800 leave me a msg.

You don't have to. If you subscribe with another carrier before the end of your contract with Bell, you can ask the new carrier to carry you current phone number with them. It's almost instantaneous. That's a law in Canada now. That's what I did when I went from Fido to Telus this summer. And, if data is really a must have for you, you can always go with Telus and ask for the 15$ unlimited data plan explaining your coming from competition (and still retain your number.) If they say they can only give the plan if you choose the Touch (and if you don't want this device), insist on the fact that you know peoples that owns P4000 and got this very plan with their current device. I know I do, as many others.

I asked Telus Mobility to add it to my existing contract Dec 2007 with my PPC-6700(Apache), Feb 2008 I've moved to a PPC-6800/P4000(Titian), contract will end Apr 2009.
The bill still states "Unlt'd Personal Email & IM 15", I'm using about a 100megs of data and about 10megs tether data a month.
Yes, I'm still on the $15 ulimited data plan and it's F$%^ amazing, I never thought I would use that much data but when its unlimited.
The deal started in July 2007 if you had a $45 voice plan, about 4 years of existing service they could add the $15 unlimited data any phone other than Blackberry's. Oct 2007 to counter Bell's offer the voice requirement drop to $30 and still no Blackberry.
In late March 2008 co-work recently tried to sign up for the plan but no go the offer expired in Feb 2008 and he's been a 11 year customer of Telus. This is the standard offer now http://www.telusmobility.com/bc/plans/pcs/email_all.shtml
The only thing to do is drop everything and move to Bell for the HTC Touch and $7 data or wait for the iPhone to start some more competition.
I still would like the $7 from Bell Mobility but it's locked to the HTC Touch and non-pda phone. I've asked Bell if I purchased the HTC Touch with $7 data could I switch to another phone while retaining the data. NO NO NO they will charge you standard data rates.

I only paid 179.99 but that's because i opened a new line of service and got a new number. Be aware that if you open a new line of service to get the 179.99 price you CANNOT cancel your other line of service early or you will have to pay a 200.00 fee for early termination. The only option you have is to switch it to a home phone plan. If you decide to go that route as I did then it is 10.00 a month. It uses your sim card and a router that you get from T Mobile for 40.00. You must have a high speed connection to use this option.

Edit: Just saw your post in the other thread. I think what you're saying confirms what the T-mo rep told me earlier today. Not that I'm going to do it... it's cheaper for me to stick to my current plan and buying the phone unlocked.

Someone in another forum had the same issue and apparently he had to add another line. Once his N1 comes in he plans on canceling his old line and switching his number over to the new line. I can try to find that post if need be.?

That's not necessary, but thanks. I'd only buy the phone unlocked, because it will considerably cheaper than switching plans and being in a contract again. I'm really just curious because it doesn't seem right that if we're off contract with T-mo, we couldn't take advantage of the subsidized price of the phone. Theoretically we're paying higher plan prices every month because our original phones were subsidized. So if we're off contract, then we should have paid T-mo back for that subsidy and they should either discount our monthly rate (like the Even More Plus plans), or subsidize a new phone for us.

Sorry, people on here seem to like 'hard evidence' that is only text from another person. I am sure that this has been the plan since the beginning. Google, obviously having the upper hand and being in control, is calling the shots on how this works. T-Mobile, being an underdog, was probably given first dibs with this being part of the deal. But, I do agree with you. I bought it unlocked and would have rather saved the money and updated my phone with current plan. The guys post was something about he had a "grandfathered" in plan and was eligible through TMO for the update but with it being through Google he wasn't able to.... I guess all we can say is 'okay' and mush on.

For people interested in the tmo family plans, here is some math.
Getting 2 subsidized phones over a two-year period breaks down to an extra $15 a month ([$180 x2]/24). 2 unlocked phones is $44 a month ([$530 x2]/24).
Looking at text and web family plans with no annual contracts, its $109.99 for 750mins, $119.99 for 1500mins and $139.99 for unlimited. This gives you freedom of picking your plans or switching to another carrier that supports this phone.
Knowing that if you get the subsidized version, you will be paying $160 a month plus the breakdown of $15 a month (spreading out what you pay up front for the devices) it comes to $175 a month.
With the unlocked device price breakdown at $44 a month, you can see you will save money if you buy the unlocked phone and use either the 750min or 1500min family plans as they will cost you $154 and $164 respectively.
This is a two year savings of $504 and $264!

I love the first post that clearly states "only new T-mobile customers are eligible to purchase Nexus One at the discounted price of $179." If thats true then why did I get one for 179.99, I've been with them for 7 years! lol

I have a family plan with 4 lines so I had to break down and pay full price.... same when the G1 came out. Only reason is because i feel like this phone I will keep for some time. I hope. Google, I think, will be getting a lot of heat about this. I took a look at the link and there are A LOT of pissed off people on there. But GOOG does have the money to blow.

I actually bought the unlocked phone for $530,-. I have another 6 months on my contract.

And I never even come close to using my 600 minutes.
So the 500 plus plan is perfect for me. And I save $20,- a month.
And , when they get the Voip thing happening, I can use that as well, since I have a Google Voice number.
i'm a current T-mob customer with 9 mo left on my 2 yr contract i got with my G1, once i get some extra cash saved up i plan to pay the full price for the nexus one because for me at least i currently spend $53 a month on my service with t-mob and don't care or benefit to change it and if i could extend my contract and pay less for the phone by some amount it will still save me more in the long run by not having to pay for the dumb 80 dollar a month plan they force you to have by going that route
this is of course as long as they do not change their tune on how they are handling this before i'm ready to purchase the phone i.e. give me a discount of some amount to upgrade and keep my current plan or one very close to it

I've posted this in a couple other threads but it should help here.
I'll tell everyone up front I worked for T-Mobile customer care for the last 4 years up until this past June and was a supervisor for the last year of my time there.
If you currently have a single line plan that is out of contract is qualifies through T-Mobile for the full discount but Google is giving you the price that is almost $400 here is what you can do it get around it. And change to the Even More plans prior WILL NOT fix this issue.
Alot of people are getting bad information from TMobile about what needs to be done because the reps were given almost no information about the ordering process. So most reps and just going with the flow to try and get people off the phone.
When you go to order the phone with Google select the option to add a new line to your account. It will give you the 179.99 price for adding the new line. Once the new phone comes in the mail call T-Mobile and cancel your old line and ask them to put a "request old number back" request to replace the new number with your old one. This takes about 24 hours to go through. During that 24 hours your old number will not work because you have to cancel it before you do this.
I know for a fact this will work but the rep you talk to may give you crap about doing this and not let you because they want to be a ****. If you're worried about that call and cancel you old line when you get the phone then call back and talk to another rep and tell them to put in the request for you.
Don't you have to pay the 200 dollar ETF if you cancel a line?
There's no ETF if the line has no contract. So if you add a new line to get the discount you can cancel the old one without a fee
Ah I missed that part. I am trying to get the 180 price and I only have a few months left on my contract and they won't upgrade it. They will let me add a new line of service though.

Have you, by chance, checked out the new plans yet? They're pretty good, and I moved away from our MyFaves plan to an unlimited everything plan for two lines.
As for the upgrade pricing, I think the problem lies in the complexities of the family plans themselves and Google being able to interact with them. This is more like getting a phone online from Amazon than anything else, where it becomes quite difficult specifying all the options that you want. I'm getting the impression that with the simplified plans from T-Mobile, you'll see more "deals" like this in the future, and hopefully the multi-line/family plans won't be so complicated for a 3rd party like Google to pick up and interact with using a short lead time.
I am thinking I will use my upgrade for something like the BB9700 and sell it on ebay to subsidize this phone. I know it's not the preferred option, but I'm not leaving my family plan anytime soon. I might as well use the subsidy.

Add my name to this petition. Also, I'm not buying the argument that it's too "complicated" to offer more than one plan and family plans. If I go to Wirefly or Amazon, or any in store 3rd party retailers, I can sign up for family plans, or upgrade existing eligible contract lines that are already on family plans. Every other example of a subsidized phone sold in the US works on a family plan. Why is it too complicated for Google?
what gets to me is im loyal tmobile customer, i tell people to get them even if sometimes there not most reliable network. Also ive owned first android phone g1, now how have mytouch both at release and now i wanted to get nexus one and i cant because i have corporate discount (military) and family plan its just unbelievable to me u know.
I just talked to tmobile again and told them i may cancel my lines with them because really what do i need tmobile now for? honestly... I was told by representative that There is not solid news yet but he thinks google will adjust things over next while to make this a little more friendly.

Google is selling and subsidizing the phone. The stipulations on how you can get a discount seems to be theirs as well, and not TMo's. If you don't like the terms, you can always pay full price and keep using whatever plan you want. At least if you activate a new line with the Nexus, TMo will still let you upgrade your plan if you want more minutes.
Since when does anybody sell anything for what people think they're entitled to pay? I don't want to get ripped off on a Mac, so you know what? They should charge what I'm willing to pay or I won't buy one. Maybe I'll start a petition. . .
Yeah your right, But the subsidizing is ripoff to tmobiles customers... OK New customers here have ****ty plan and nice new phone, while people that have been there multiple years have corporate discount and family plan are screwed. T-mobile doesnt take responsiblity for this and blames google, But really.. Both companies are benefiting from this Tmobile is getting more customers from differenet network carriers and Google is ripping off all the current customers for 530$.

Simply put, buy the phone subsidized for $180, with the plan google has set up (79.99,web+text), then call a tmobile rep and ask them to merge the line with your current family plan, and cancel the current google plan, this works 100%, you will not have to pay ETF or pay Google $350, because you are only altering the plan terms, not the contract agreement. If you desire more min or want to cancel texting, call rep and ask them to bump you to an unlimited min/1000 min plan, without texting. You will get a subsidy and your desired plan. If you think that I am lying call a tmobile rep, they will tell you to do the same thing. Many people are complaining about this because they dont understand Google's business model, they obviously realized that a preset-500min plan would not eagerly sell, so people would buy unsubsidized, but at the same time they do not put in their terms of service that you cannot manipulate plan terms with tmobile, so basically for those of you who are a little more informed, this is in no way a limitation but more of an illusion of one.
T-Mobile is not selling the phone. T-Mobile is just offering the service. You can do the above EASILY with an individual plan. It's just sad that T-Mobile has to get blamed for everyone elses screw ups. The Sidekick disaster was mostly blamed on T-Mobile and they had nothing to do with it. Just sad.

Are you 100% sure you can merge there Plan with new activation to a old family plan, Like merging accounts?
Yes merging 2 lines into one family plan has been possible for ages, but most people just don't know of it. If you have and old family plan, with lets say 3 people(you being one of them), you buy the nexus one phone subsidized, and transfer your number, (auto-canceling your line in the family account), your family account now has 2 lines, or if you dont transfer, then simply manually terminate one line. (note if you are still in contract with tmobile on your old plan you will have to pay ETF for line cancellation.) You now have one family plan, with 2 lines and your Nexus One phone with its own line. Call Tmobile and ask them to add the Nexus One line under your old family plan and presto, you have your old family plan back, with a brand new spanking Nexus One. Again if you don't believe this, call tmobile and have them walk-you-through it.
Note once more that Google could have easily stopped this, but they didn't. So, to conclude, there are no limitations as far as plans with Nexus One (other than the data plan, standard for smartphones), anything else are mere delusions and the petitions going around are for morons, end of story. For all who complain about upgrade pricing, there were never any good prices for upgrades. ie never upgrade but start new accounts and cancel your old ones, and wait till your contract is over for a new phone, you will not regret it. You don't have to be a new customer, but you just need a new account to get the full subsidy.
I love Google and I always have. I expected nothing less from them, they are merely trying to uproot carrier dependency in America. In EU, vast numbers of people would pay $500 for a phone like the Nexus One because they know they can get a cheap ass pay-as-you go plans. And many still decide to get contracts because carriers offer real-world subsidies, phones like the TG01, can be bought through orange on a 45 dollar, 900 min, unlimited text and internet plan for FREE, check it now on orange uk. In America, you have to pay 200, for the droid, and at the same time pay $30 just for data not including expensive per min plans. The big 4 continue a monopoly in America by leading people to think that they still have large numbers of maintenance fees for their equipment, but in reality they make nearly 85% profit from hefty charges, and still want you to pay for texting when it should really be for free, because it is for them. The American cell market is in the ****, really.
It wont auto cancel the other line, through the google site. It says my family plan does not qualify.
And i cant buy nexus one on different account cause i think google checks tmobile with social numbers.

I just paid for the unsub N1 because I am on a family plan. However I would have no problem sending it back and from what I understand:
1. get my line off the family plan
2. order the unsub phone with new contract
3. call tmo and have them put me back on the family plan
4. new contract for sub phone disappears and everything is back to normal and i just got a sub phone with NO change from what i had before

yes that is how this workaround can be put to use, note only your line on your old family line will have a contract agreement, and a data plan is still required so if you didnt have one before, add $30 to your plan. You can verify the method with tmobile.
well that adds a bit of flavor to my situation of having paid for an unsubsidized phone already...

This isn't T-Mobile's fault and the petition was worded towards TMO like they control Google's sales page. My comment in my signature was for TMO to pressure Google to change it's subsidized eligibility process to include customers in good standing for 22+ months (the standard upgrade eligibility period). Shouldn't matter if you're on a family plan or not. That's bull****.
I wanted to get this phone for myself and my wife, but it looks like that will have to wait for who knows how long now.

[GUIDE] How to get the Nexus One for $179 if you have a T-Mobile Family Plan

This knowledge comes after talking to 5 different T-Mobile reps.
The steps to get the subisidized price if you are a 22+ month "good standing" customer with a Family Plan of any kind (legacy, myFaves, Even More, etc):
If you have a Family Plan (myFaves, Even More, etc.) you *must* split all the lines on the Family Plan off to individual Even More plans. T-Mobile doesn't allow one person to have multiple types of lines on the same account, and doesn't allow one person to have multiple accounts.
Wait 2-3** hours for Google's system to replicate account data from T-Mobile. **estimated
Now that all your lines are on individual plans, you can use the steps on Google's site to modify an existing individual plan and then upgrade your phone.
Once you have received and activated your new phone on your existing number, it will convert your plan to the $80/mo Even More plan.
At this point you can call T-Mobile and have them add all your lines to an Even More Family Plan (not the Even More Plus Family Plan).
And if all this fails, she gave me HTC's support phone number: 888-216-4736
UPDATE: It appears I was a bit hasty in writing my guide. The steps above actually lead you to be able to upgrade your existing line with a $150 discount on the Nexus One, dropping the price from $529 to $379. To get the $179 pricing, you must select "Add a new individual line of service with a new number to my T-Mobile account." This will add a new line to your T-Mobile account, which you can then add back to your Family Plan, and remove your old line.
UPDATE #2: Google is now issuing a $100 refund if you went through this process and bought the Nexus One using the "upgrade" option for an individual plan to get the price of $379. That brings your cost to $279. I thought Google folks were supposedly good at math? :O
UPDATE #3: After all this nonsense, I found out today from T-Mobile that step #5 DOES NOT WORK the way they told me it would. You can't just call them and have them add all your lines to a Family Plan. Doing so within 120 days of your Nexus purchase will cause you to pay an ETF to Google, equal to the price difference between the $179 price and the $529 price.
My journey:
I started with 3 lines on a MyFaves 1200 Family Plan and was paying about $190-200 a month. I split this into 3 Even More 500 lines with Android data on 2 of the lines (my wife inherited my G1). Total cost per month at this point was roughly $200 still ($49.99 x 3 plus tax). I then bought the Nexus One for $179 ($229 with tax), which added a 4th Even More line for another $80/mo. Total cost per month now at $280ish.
Now, at this point I could have cancelled one of my out-of-contract lines, saving $49.99/mo for that line, dropping the monthly down to about $240/mo for my 2 old lines + the 1 new line from Google (3 lines total).
Instead, I cancelled the Google line, dropping the monthly back down to $200/mo, retaining out-of-contract status on all 3 lines, and eating the $350 that Google will charge me now. Had I kept their line for another 120 days though, that's 4x$40=$160 to keep that subsidized price, plus I am committed for another 2 years. At the same time, we are now signed up for the Even More Family 1500 plan with unlimited text/data/tmo-to-tmo/nights&weekends.
So at this point, I have the option (if I can explain all this math to my wife), of just buying her an unsubsidized phone upgrade for her and the other person on our plan, and drop to an Even More Plus 1500 Family Plan, which would cost us $125+tax/mo, for a total of about $150/mo. So basically in a year's time, we will have saved $600 on our phone bill, and that will buy each of them a very nice phone. Wish me luck explaining this to her.
Sorry to get everyone's hopes up. I think Google has shown that they can f*ck things up as bad as any big company out there (at least on a first try). Hopefully they will learn from it, and/or HTC will get into direct handset sales instead (like they should have this time anyways).
MORAL OF THE STORY: Save your pennies and just buy the effing thing unsubsidized. That or don't have family. Your choice.

As much as I hope this works even though I paid full price already and have a family plan, sounds like a lot of bull**** to go through lol... honestly, i have no problem shelling out 530 for a product of high quality and to a company that isnt all "me me me" (fu apple)... I am still a part of my parents account and i know my father would not want to deal with splitting the plan then jumping through all the hoops haha so im going to suck it up...

One minor thing is that if you change the plan to the Even More for 39.99 and don't add SMS and Data (10.00 + 30.00) for line ordering Nexus One, you will get a different prices from the $179.99. I have heard $279.99 and other prices.
After you have received your upgrade price of $179.99 call T-mobile and have them place you on an Even More Family plan of your choice (750, 1500, Unl) The line(s) that ordered handset will require the $30.00 data for duration of contract. Good Luck.
Feel free to ask any other Q's.

i am in the same exact boat as you, got a family plan, bought a phone (well worth the money) and now im happy
I went through this exact process to get the phone at $279. Make sure to remove any text or web/data addon ons on your plan as this will make the system only offer you the 379 pricing

If you buy the unsubsidized phone, you don't have to even take it to T-Mobile. You could take it to AT&T and suffer with EDGE/GPRS data speeds, or Canada on Rogers (the HSDPA frequencies are the same as TMO).
Here's how I *wish* this had been handled.
T-Mobile should have issued coupon codes to customers in good standing 22+ months, regardless of Family or Individual Plan. When they issue the coupon code, your account re-ups for 2 more years, and the coupon works on Google's site to discount $150 for upgrades. That would have solved the whole mess.

This works if the number you have doesn't have Android Data (mine did) which is required by TMO for Android phones.
You would have to go into account management and remove the stuff yourself after you told the system you're using a different handset (like the older Dash or something). Kinda like the process we used to follow to get $4.99/mo internet on the Dash.
so is it possible to skip 5 and 6 and just keep a individual plan?
because at the moment im on a family plan and are in good standing with tmo (had them since voicestream) but im moving out on my own and starting my own life since ive started college and want bills in my name on my own line.
so could i split my line from the plan upgrade it and just do the 80 dollar even more plan with them? while still getting the 179 upgrade?

I'm not sure about the 179 upgrade, but as for your family plan problem, I would suggest staying with the same account, just give the person that pays for the bill some money every month for your part of the bill. I do that with my cousin, so since our bill is $120 I only need to pay $60

Any way. You need to have a line that is past 24 months and out of contract. Then seperate that line from family plan. Give it 2 days to reflect and then should get that price. Family lines are not eligible at all. Info is on Google's page.
Here is my question. I current have service with VZW. There tech support has finally pi**ed me off. They refused to replace my Tour that you cant hear on every other call not to mention the horrible vibration alert. So I have decided to say BYE-BYE to big red. I have read places on the net that you should be able to by new service on T-Mo with N1 on the single plan of course. Wait a few hours and then move it to a Family plan.
Is this possible for a new customer? I prefer not to dump $530 on a phone now but will if I have to. My other option is a MT which will be no issue. A coworker says go all in with Nexus. I agree the Snapdragon processor will be the difference. Thanks for the help. Cant wait for Jan 29 to move to a real from and leave Blackberry behind. I miss my modding days with my XV6800.
