Quick question.
Are you using the wall charger or the usb cable to charge your device.

i'm using the wall charger....

anyone. please help me....

Same problem here as well using wall charger sometimes it will not turn on after a full night of charging and other times it will turn on. Then sometimes it will turn on, and when I check the battery level(with it unplugged) it will say 100% and charging; but after a soft reset it will show 85%? Bad batteries possibly?

yeah, it also happens to me sometimes. solution please....

Which ROM is this? WM5, WM6
What version of ROM.
Did it only just start to happen after some program was installed.
Is there any today screen plug-ins installed.
There can be a lot of factors that cause a device freeze.
Can you be sure that it only freezes when battery full? maybe it freezes during charging & you only notice it frozen when you pick it up.
Dead/dying batteries can cause all manner of problems as well.
For a battery to be considered ALIVE, it must be able to supply correct voltage *AND* current.
If either of those are on the outside of the specified tolerance (limits a cpu can withstand) whether it's < *OR* > that could cause your device to freeze.
In other words Slightly lower or higher voltage/current could cause a lock.
Trying another battery would rule that out.
Maybe a hard reset is on the cards?. (after backing up your important data of course)
A hard reset is compromised of both "Soft Keys" & the "Soft Reset" button, once pressed a white screen will appear, then select 0 (zero) to reset.
If possible you should perform a hard reset & with no software installed see if the problem persists, then start to install your software & if problem comes back only after installing some softs then you will have a better idea of whats causing it.

i'm still using wm5 and i haven't installed anything in my exec. i already done hard reset so many times. but, the result is the same. it only happens when the battery is full....

does anyone has the solution for this problem? help....

Is it possible you can put a multi-meter across the terminals of the battery when it's fully charged & check the reading.
Sorry just trying to help through process of elimination.
Cheers

This has been discussed in earlier posts.
I have same problem with the battery i bought off ebay (original batteries seem ok). Setting the device to stay on when 'on external power' might help, backlight doesnt need to stay on though

I have tried other batteries, the problem is hit and miss this morning it charged all night but yet no problem. Even before I had any apps on the device it did that, so I don't think kit is software related I do believe it more than likely the batteries. I've never been able to get a full charge from a computer(plugged into a USB port) so I always charge from the wall outlet. ROM is O2 with 1.09 radio I think no plugins(other than the standard ones). thats all I can tell you?

ok2, so it means that the problem is from the battery? thx for the info....

so is it the battery problem?
I notice my battery status states "charging" when it is no longer plugged into the wall outlet or usb

help pls??

XDA 2 Say Always Charging

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8348&highlight=always+charging
I have a same problem before. But im update my device rom to 1.72.00 (Imate Rom) (Before my device have a 1.72.00 T-Mobile Rom) that problem is gone until my charge going %15. After that not blinkin Orange light is coming (thats normal for charge is about 10-15% but) also Setting > Power say charging and My XDA think its charging. Im not plug in my device anywhere (Cradle, Power Charge, USB Sync) but its always thing charging and charge is faster dropping to zero.
I dont understand anythig about that. After that i plug in my USB sync in my notebook and recharge it. After my battery full (100%) im unplug the sync cable from my device and nothing change. Its still say charging
After this i decided (i dont know why i think about that. please dont ask ) i plug in USB sync cable and plug out on my PC (Cable still plugged in on my XDA 2) and device gone normal. And unplug sync cable from my device. Orange light is gone and Settings > Power say Battery Mode.
Is there anythig wrong that. I think this is totaly software error bu i dont know.
Thank you for your advice.
My case was different. No matter what I did, the device ALWAYS thought it was in charging mode. I sent it to the repair centre twice and the device gone back to the problem again after a while. They said the connector pin has been in short circuit and so it thought it was charging. They also accused me of damaging it. I asked them why it would be so when I use it normally, the staff said 'Machine is like that, nobody can gurantee'. I was angry and sent several rude mails to O2. Upon some negotiation, they changed a completely brand new model to me and the problem did not happen anymore. I have used this new one for several months in exactly the same way I did with the old one and nothing untoward happen. That proved the old one was not damaged by me!
Sorry for being long-winded and yet could not solve your problem.
Anyone can help?
My device still have a that problem.
Im looking lights now and its some time say charging and some times not.
Please help
Thank you
always charging
i still have same problem :!:
anyone? help?
omg, this is exactly what my problem is. My XDAII always thinks that it is charging even though it is not plugged to the charger nor the usb sync cradle. And the amber LED light is steadily lighted like when you are charging, battery life of the XDA has dramatically gone down, it wont last me 3 hours or so and yet it is still on standby mode. I had reflashed it with the latest ROm available, 2.06WWE i think, and still after that, after the cold reboot, the problem was still there. Anyone has a better solution to that? Im planning on returning my unit for servicing if the problem cant be solved.
i have same problem , help me now
This will be less likely to happen when using usb cable rather than cradle. If you get a magifying glass you may be able to see the short on the pins and possibly nudge it back into position with a very thin sewing needle or similar.
up
i have exactly this problem too (
I´ve the same problem since yesterday with my T-Mobile MDA², it´s Rom Version: 1.72.01GER (6 months in use without problems), Rom Date 03/16/04, Radio 1.17.00, Protocol 1337.28, ExtRom 1.72.170
The yellow light is always on and the batterie runs very fast out of energy (1-2 hours) and it´s always says charging and think it´s connected to AC power...
any fix to this problem?
or what happen now to those who have this problem?
I have this problems too!!! How to fix it?

Help me please, hermes won't turn on

I searched to see if I could find an answer but there weren't any posts that could specifically help me. I only found one post but it wasn't clear.
My phone was working fine in the morning but when I checked on it after class it wouldn't wake up but light was still blinking. I thought a simple soft reset would unfreeze it but nothing. After removing the battery to get it to power off it won't turn back on. A guy posted this same problem in one of the threads and there was a mention of the battery but it was vague. When I try to charge it, there are no indicator lights. With the battery out, the red indicator light is on.
Can someone help me find out whats wrong and if I can fix it myself. Is it the battery or the phone? Thanks in advance

Hi
First, I notice you have not tried a hard reset. This will in all probability fix your problems, but you will loose any data of your own that you have saved on the device. (hope you have a fullbackup!!)
Before doing the hard reset it may be worth running through the steps here http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!4472423472DCFC38!202.entry for the refusal to charge issue. You see I am not sure whether your device is not turning on because it has insufficient power or whether it has a major "crash". Hermes does have a problem for some folks when it reaches very low charge of not being able to staret charging. This though is normally indicated by a RED LED showing when charger is plugged in (clearly yours only does this with battery out - which is normal) Somehow you need to get that Amber LED showing. Repeat the charging solution a few times - it does not always work straight off.
When all else fails - hard reset.
Mike
nothing working yet
Hard reset isn't working. Is the menu supposed to come up even if theres no battery? Tried hard reset with and without the battery, but nothing pops up. Your charging solution hasn't worked yet but I'll keep trying. Any other things I can try? Thanks for the help mike.
It worked for me: Remove battery and plug it to AC during 5 minutes. Then insert the battery and soft reset. My TynT came back life in this way
'Dead device won't charge (solution provided)'
This isn't for your model I don't think, but the "won't charge" problem (and hence solution) sound similar. It worked for me on a dead SPV M3000 (HTC Wizard, iMate etc) (and was I grateful!!)

Tytn Won't Charge

I have noticed that for the last week my Tytn won't always charge itself up either when its in its cradle or is being charged via the charging lead.
I have no idea what has brought this on. The solution I am using at the moment is to soft boot, which seems to solve the problem for a while. For the techies on here I am using the standard HTC Win5 Rom, straight out the box.
Has anyone come across this problem and, if yes, knows what the solution is please? It was only because my low battery alarm kicked in the other day that I realised there was a problem.
As I use the kit for work I cannot afford to have it not charge up.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
WB
Caveat - Yes, did search first on here and elsewhere before posting.
Could be hardware (at Device) / could be software. Without testing these things out it's impossible to say. I suppose a quick test of the physical contacts of the device would be to switch on and connect the charger and by gently moving the connection, see if the amber charging LED goes on off.
In the end I always think with this kind of problem a hard reset saves a lot of time testing this and that. If there is nothing you can pin down as an obvious change/installation you made before this started, then I'd do a hard reset.
Of course you are fully prepared for this with full backups taken at key installation stages?? - Hope so.
Mike
The only thing I've heard of is that using USB cables/cradles, car chargers and non-standard wall chargers (such as for motorola) are ok for trickle charging but if the battery goes low you need to use the original wall charger supplied with the phone.
I know this was the problem on my Wizard - wouldn't charge a low battery with a motorola charger but fine with the original.
Mike,
I think I will do a hard reset as a last, last, resort only if all other options are well and truly exhausted. I rebuilt the damned thing for the umpteenth time only 2 weeks ago and I absolutely don't want to go through that pain again.
The frustrating thing is that for the first time since I owned the Tytn (6 months) all the problems I did not know about before I bought it had finally been resolved (excepting the freezing of TomTom, which still remains outstanding).
So just when I thought I could finally start to rely on the Tytn as a fully functioning relible working tool we get this.
I owned a Sony P900 for over 3 and a half years as a business tool (grant you the PDA functionality was a tad restricted compared to the Tytn) and it never failed me once! If it wasn't for a problem with the touch screen and me thinking it was time for a change I would still be using it today.
Anyone else any other suggestions on this problem please? Wiggling the charging cable in the mini-usb port makes no difference. Only a reboot does at this time.
So damned frustrating!

hungry TyTN
Hi,
I have a similar problem. I had a go for the WM6 from LVSW (2007-05-19) and the latest Radio (1.41.00.10) and a brand new out of the box TyTN.. First thing I noticed was that the unit discharges itself very quickly. I've tried various radios without any good luck too. I think it killed my battery, at least it went so low that I could'nt recharge it normally. I had the RED LED blinking fast, constant RED and sometimes AMBER. My tip is to never let the battery fully discharge here.. I had to kickstart it with 3 AA-batteries in serial, and hooked up + and - wires to the TyTNs battery so it could have a little power, or else the TyTN would not charge it anymore. I assumed it could be my old SIM and/or the battery, so I went to th store and got a new battery as replacement for testing this. I am now able to charge, but I the power consumption is far beyond what I expect, it is like 341 ma read with ABC Power Meter....! Even with radio off, wifi off, receive incoming beams off, BT off, screen to minimum brightness, nada... I was expecting a lot less... This hungry device will not last many hours, and the battery does even produce much heat during standby operation, which is not good besides from a hand-warmer in the pocket during winter time maybe... I have also tried using Bandswitch to disable UMTS as maybe the UMTS reception here is not super good, but still working... Even talking on the phone while charging it drains the battery heavily.... to empty...
Besides from all this the WM6 from LVSW seems to be super quick and stable, maybe the very best one to pick for a HERMES.
I am desperate to find a conclusion here...
heeelp..
Update:
I happened to purchase a faulty device!!! There was indeed a HW error on my brand new device so I got it swapped with another one that works. Not all problems are SW-bugs..
Thought I would come back on this thread.
In the end I had to do a hard reset and rebuild as other problems started to manifest themselves and rebuilding became the easiest option.
Rebuilding has solved the problem; however it might interest you to note that this time I rebuilt the Tytn just like I would build a PC. The OS built itself first, with its associated apps, then I added any other additional OS tools, eg SPB Mobile Shell. I then grouped my apps into a logical order and installed them one by one.
After each install I rebooted the PPC, checked that the last app installed ran ok, then tested every other app to see if they ran as well BEFORE installing the next app. This process was a little tedious but it seems to have paid off.
I have to say though that having rebuilt this piece of kit from scratch at least 20 times in the last 6 months, I just cannot count on it as a reliable business tool in the same way as I did with my previous Symbian device. Shame given how much I spent on it.
When my next upgrade is due a Windows mobile device WON'T be on my list!
WB
Wacky - Get a full back-up tool like SPB backup and you can avoid all that pain. Hard Reset to Restoring a full backup - 10 minutes maybe. Much better than re-installing all those apps everytime you hard reset. And you can create a backup before and after each installation if you wish.
Mike
Mike,
Thanks for the tip. Must admit I had not thought of using SPB backup in the way that you suggest (can't see the wood for the trees sometimes).
Now that I think I have a stable system I will back it up using this tool and create a "line in the sand", in terms of a good system backup.
I still remain to be convinced on the stability/suitability for sustained business use though.
Appreciate your input.

Similar (Battery Meter) Problem
This week, my phone reset for some reason and came up with the screen which shows the current IPL and SPL. The phone still has all the apps and data I installed, so it was not a hard reset. This happened with a 1/2 charge on the battery.
Since that happend a full charge now shows as a 1/2 charge only on the meter and this is as high as the meter will show. The phone still lasts just as long, so there is no physical battery problem.
Anyone know how to fix this without a true hard reset.
Thanks
Mardig,
The only suggestion I have is to hard reset the unit and then rebuild it from scratch. Worked for me.
In any case it may be advisable to do this as it sounds like you have other problems.
Once rebuilt I suggest you take up Mike Channon's suggestion to get a tool and backup the device. That way if you have further problems you at least have a line in the sand to refer back to.
By the way, I am not ruling out a hardware problem in your case. However my starting point would be my suggestions above.
Good luck

Strange TyTN behavior when charging
I bought a car charger for my TyTN and used it for ~4-5 months without a problem. One day a fuse went off and after replacing it with a new one and connecting to TyTN, a TyTN stopped charging completely. I checked at home with an original wall charger - nothing. I was stupid enough to try the same car charger with my second TyTN - not surprisingly it burned the other one too :-(
I got them both fixed, a car charger replaced with a new one, so everything should have been working fine. The following happened:
1. First time a car charger is connected, it works fine and the TyTN is charging.
2. Disconnecting a charger and reconnecting it back after couple of seconds restart charging, however this stops after 1 sec and the screen shows as it is not connected.
3. Repeating step 2 does nothing - no charging starts at all.
4. Soft reset - go back to step 1.
5. When TyTN off and car charger connected - charging is working - amber light is on.
6. Wall charger (original), TyTN on or off - charging is working - amber light is on.
I did hard reset as well thinking it might be a broken driver problem, but it didn't help. Tomorrow will try to reload ROM.
Any ideas?
Help will be appreciated (before I take it back to lab and spend another $40 for repair)
Cheers

This is a known issue. It also appears you've realised the soft reset workaround:
In Car charging
(May be relevant to USB/Mains charging also)
Hermes only charges when switched off
Pulling out charger lead (or interrupting power supply) while charging in car (with device on or off ) may result in Hermes only charging while turned off
Possible Solution:
a.) Connect charger with power on
b.) Switch on Hermes
c.) Soft reset whilst connected
Hermes should now charge whilst on or off.
I charge mine in the car but I do not use a car charger but a 12 volt to 240 volt inverter - so I can plug in a mains charger. Never have problems with this and I can also use it to power my laptop.
Examples here of cheap and expensive ones - small ones and large ones:

Hi Mike.
Thanks for your prompt response.
I did read that thread, however it seems that it doesn't explain point 2 in my explanation, does it?
Update: tried the method explained, however the situation is still the same - both points 2 and 5.
Regarding the DC-AC inverter - do you use a wall charger or USB output (if there is one, I found one that has both main and USB).

Unless I misunderstand something - one of the primary causes of the problem is the disconnection whilst charging leading to a refusal to charge when re-connected. To quote my post:
"Pulling out charger lead (or interrupting power supply) while charging in car (with device on or off ) may result in Hermes only charging while turned off "
I realise of course this does not explain things and is just a statement about what happens.

THe funny thing is that the other TyTN I have doesn't suffer the same behavior and charges fine, even though I disconnected and connected many times while charging.
Yeap, it's strange, unexplainable and most of all extremely annoying.
Thansk a lot for your help.
Solved!!!
Hi.
I am happy to tell that I managed to figure out how to overcome that problem. I hope it will work for all users - I tried it with 2 different TyTNs and it was OK.
The solution is to plug/unplug the USB charger only when the device is off - not a complete shutdown by long press on Power button, but a short one.
If it's OK, when plugging the lead the power button lights up in <1 sec. If not, it takes ~5 sec to go on.
Best regards,
i discovered today....when i plugged my hermes into the car charger, that it wasnt charging.
after a soft reset it charged. an then.....no problems untill about 22:00 pm. i plugged it again and...same thing, it needed a reset to charge.
what could cause this? igo may way and bluetooth gps. coz i think this is the reason.

Phone will not turn on... HTC TyTN

I have the HTC Tytn and it will not turn on. It was sitting on my desk one day with more than 50% charge and when I picked it up to make a phone call I noticed it was turned off. I tryed hitting the power button to turn it back on, but nothing happened. I have removed the battery and tried just about everything I could think of. Even when I plug the unit into the wall charger there are no indicator lights. I read on some threads that my battery may not have enough charge to begin charging (I know that makes little sense, but it is true) so I took the battery out and tested the voltage. It rated at 4.17 Volts which is higher then the 3.7 rating on the battery. This means the "jumpstart" or extra "kick" that would normally be suggested would not work for me since I have too much charge. I have begun discharging my battery and it is down to 3.99 Volts, but I don't really know if this would help anything.
If anyone has had a similar problem and has a solution I would really like to try it, I am willing to try anything at this point. I know I am new to this forum and this is my first post, but I discovered this site through Google and found it to be full of many interesting posts. If any of these solutions work I would be happy to make a donation to this site. I appreciate any and all help.

Hi Flashrapid,
Have you tried a soft or hard reset? If the phone comes back on with either of these solutions then let me know as there is more to be done to stop this happening again in the future.
Feel free to PM me directly if it helps.

Same problem here. I know this is an old thread, but Im having the same exact issue. Completly stock factory ROM very few 3rd party add ons never dropped.Phone was actually a 3 month old refurb that I had replaced another 8525 with under warantee. No charging lights or anything. Tried soft reset, not sure how to hard reset with the phone dead. Anyway if someone has any insight to this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hard reset as you normally would - 2 softkeys and stylus reset.
Does the red LED come on when you connect to the power without the battery?
The Hermes should, if there is no hardware problems, show a red light to indicate no battery when you plug it in without one.
Cheers...

-No
-No, i used the usb cable and nokia charging kit.
-Not so much it can't take a day.
Also i can hear a strange noise coming from the charging kit. when it's plugged in. Could be an hardware error or software?
Better not do hard reset on the Android, can not help but bring you trouble ... to the charge I had the same case on CM 7.2, after a few reboot is to be changed do not know what the problem was, the developers are working on it, read forum you will find lots of information about
"i can hear a strange noise coming from the charging kit"
I would not use it, it is safer to be charged via USB cable.

Thx for reply. I don't think it's an android ROM problem. I had the same problem when i still used the wm 6.5
here's a solution
Flash Back to Wi-Mo and Check Setings\System\Power\Battery -Do not charge the battery if the phone is switched on and connected to a PC.
How do you know, that the phone is not charging?
The state of the LED (red/green/off) is changed by software (WM/Android), if the device is turned on, while the charging itself is controlled by hardware only.
You should check, if the phone is really not charging, while its turned on. Just ignore the charging LED and monitor the charging state of the battery after an hour, after you started with an almost empty one.
Best regards
@stahlnase, you're right when it comes to Android, but (windows phones) have software to control the charging. Something else;although we have through the nand installation erased entire phone, there are still some Wi-Mo "things" in this case battery setting or GPS was also associated with a Win-Mo settings. Regards!
I'm still not convinced, that the battery doesn't get recharged, just because the LED is not on
But you made an important point about enabling charging, while being connected to PC. Since demian12 is not using the HTC USB power supply, the device might "think" it is connected to a PC instead on a pure USB recharger. I believe, there are differences in the wiring of USB connectors to determine, if its a power and data plug or power supply only.
Regards.

another problem
Ok, i've flashed the original wm 6.5 greek rom.
After that, my phone won't charge at all.It shows a solid orange light for 3 seconds then it starts blinking.
I can start my phone but it closed soon, after wm boot.
Because your battery is completely empty ... it is necessary to leave some time (5-10 min) to charge, ignore charging indicator, the battery is charging! After ten minutes put the battery out / in and start a Phone.
Go to: Setings \ System \ Power \ Battery.
And Unselect option: -Do not charge the battery if the phone is switched on and connected to a PC.
Done
all night

Still me, new info
I tried with another battery.Surprize my phone shows that, that one is empty too.
Strange isn't it?
Any ideea?
If you have a good HTC charger and battery doesn't charge after you reseted windows to factory default, then your problem is hardware related.
Of course I have some ideas, but do not have time until Monday to deal with anything. Sorry. I have a suspicion that Nokia charger burned your phone. Of course, should be checked, maybe is a bug in the Android battery driver, and with the help of a trick to make the jump and put everything into place. either way, do not give up, try again and again to turn on your phone.
