Unable to update radio on TyTN - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a fairly new TyTN, but it suddenly stopped working, freezing randomly and at short intervals.
I decided to send it in for repairs, but I havent been able to find the receipt, and even though I have the box and the warranty, I can do nothing without the receipt.
So I found the pages, and have tried several updates.
First I did the Hard spl to 2.1.0 olipro, and it went well.
Now the phone was with the three colored stripes, and unable to do anything at all (though quite stable ;-) )
I then tried several different updates, (RUU) but none came all the way, the best did 13% and froze (RUU_Hermes_QTEK_DAN_2.11.253.1_102_6275_1.38.00.10_108_Ship.exe)
I tried several radio only updates, but none got anywhere, all stopped with errors 262 or communications failure.
I was then able to do the update to Mobile 6 black (Pro_Black_3.0.1) and have a complete, working system, but without the radio !
Any attempt to update the radio since, has resulted in a bricked device, with the 3 color screen.
If i place the "soft slp) file on the device when its with windows mobile 6 and connected, the activating the .exe will immediately place the device in the 3 color screen brick mode, and I cannot update the radio from there either.
Can anybody help ?
I'd hate to believe that I now have a fully working PDA, but no phone !

Did you follow the MrVanx guides?
Mike

You should try reading through this thread. Its quite lengthy so I would probably search for "error 262". Also, check out the wiki here and here Once you find out which type of brick you have (sounds like type 2), there are some steps to unbrick it. Good Luck!

To Mike:
Yes, I started out with the Mr.Vanx guide, but got stuck with the radio updating, it never got past the 0% mark.

To Peezy
I have done alle the threads, and all the different ways of updating, including through sspl.
I have not been able to figure out exactly what Radio bootloader i have, but I seem to have SuperCid, IPL-1.01, SPL-1.40.0lipro.
Its a HERM200 (TyTN) and the short of it seems to be, that I can easily do upgrades as long as they don't include radio.
Reading from the threads, I get the impression that I cannot update the radio in any way at all, if it's bootloader version >=1.09
Is that correct ?
- can you inform me how to read the radio bootloader version ?
In sspl mode I can conect with the mtty.exe tool, and send commands.
The set 14 0 command does not seem to work though, if I'm stuck in three color mode I can only get out by running an ruu without radio (I currently use the Pro black version)
This will get me the OS, but any radio updating still fails.
If for some reason it's not possible to update/fix the radio, will I be able to do it through any paid service ?

radio?
What is this thread about? I have the same phone but it does not have a radio.
What are you talking about?

What version of SPL do you currently have? You said initially that you upgraded to 2.10Oli, but then you say that your bootloader screen shows 1.40.oli. It looks like when you initially upgraded your HardSpl, it didnt work, because your BL is showing 1.4.

Because I'm feeling sorry for you and for the edification of the innocent:
All phones have "radios" to transmit/receive signals over networks. This is not a radio in the commonly accepted sense of a device for listening to broadcast radio programmes. Hermes does not have as some phones have, an FM/AM radio built in.
Mike

I did the mar Vanxz updates, to the point where the radio update failed.
That left med with olipro 2.1.0
Then, after having tried several diferent hnhreads, I am at this point, having 1.40
Will it make any diference if I update with hardspl7 to 210 olipro again ?

Im not sure which radio you tried, but you should be able to get some answers here.
You can also use mtty to check your radio BL version here.
Hope that helps.

lets start from the beginning, update to HardSPL 7 (2.10.olipro)
Now when you try to install the radio update make sure you select SPL 2.10 and tick "is it hardspl?".
try that

Okay here we go:
I have done the HardSPL v7 to 2.10 Olipro again, no problems there.
I have previously tried 4 different versions of the radio only updates, with and without soft sspl, but none get past the 0% mark.
I just gave it another go, and still no luck.
Still stuck at 0%, and ends with "upgrade error 262"
I now have spl 2.10 Olipro, and no radio.
I have tried several times to get into radio comm mode with the mtty.exe tool, using the commands descibed at the link.
None work !
All radio comm commands result in a "command error!!!" response from the tool.
This is both using softspl bootloader mode, and the normal bootloader, and it includes the commands "rtask a" and "rtask b" all give error results.
I can do other commands without errors.
One interresting detail: when trying to update radio it says: "updating from image:3.29.707.4"
If I go to os sysinfo, there's no radio version listed at all.

Where did you download the radio from? Try one of these:
1.41.00.10
1.40.30.00
1.38.30.00
these have the RUU necessary to detect HardSPL v7 (if you followed the guide it does link to the top one of these).
Which radio is it you are trying??
Also when this error first began to occur was it AFTER or BEFORE you installed HardSPL?

I have tried al of those.
None work..

looks like abricked device then unfortunatly.
Did you run HardSPL before trying the radio upgrade?

Yes.
Do you mean that I have no options at all, to recover the radio ?

It doesnt sound good dude, refer to the unbricking thread as all cases of bricking should be reported there.

Okay - an expensive pda it is then.
Thank you all for your effort.

Well.. i have the same problem as u, except i can call people, just can't update the radio. I am using the X01HT White!

HELP NEEDED Please - 8525 brick!

hello, i have read and read all the wiki's, but ive not been able to fix my phone.
i use a cingular 8525 (herm100) phone, and cannot install any rom on the phone. I have two versions of the At&t ROM with radio's and tried them both, but they all stop at 11-12 %.
i have tried usind the sd-card method, and it does not pass the "GSM - " portion.
i guess the radio is not working or is corrupt or something..
my phone is now in bootloader and just says
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
please any help will be appreciated. thank you!!!!
wow.. can anyone even say "sorry"
geez.. 35 views, and not even one reply, or consolation message, or anything??
I would update your copy of Windows Mobile Device Center first (especially if you're using Vista). Flash SPL and the radio, then flash any rom to see what happens. I mean really at this point, it's already a brick... try some crazy stuff, you can't hurt it anymore than it already is. I did the same thing to mine a couple of months ago, and after trying these things, I got it working again without a problem.
update to hard spl ver.7.
try to flash
a). stock rom (sometimes this works)
b). radio only rom.
Also make sure you unlock your phone with this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
Hope this helps...

Just to make sure I understand, the unlocker you linked is to SIM and CID unlock, correct ?? And then on top of that - you should update to HardSpl also ??
I have an 8525 on its way that I will be looking to upgrade - just want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

sorry for the late reply
i have been dealing with this for 3 days and finally managed to run official AT&T rom for 4 days wout hard reset.
there is a method dumping an official himalaya rom to hermes. az pof explained in one of his posts all commands except radio commands are different in himalaya so it is safe to use dumping method.
it basically deletes everything in radio rom so you can install official rom.
PS: at first install official rom stucked %12 i said damn but in second try %15 third try success
i am at work now i dont have the link of method but try googling or searching my posts (not too much )
i hope it solves your problem
bartan
thanks guys, i've tried some things
i have tried using Hard SPL v.7 it does not work.
i have tried using official cingular roms too. stops at 11% no success.
i have tried upgraing radio only, stops a 0% and restarts the device.
i have also used mtty, with some text inputs, no success
i have even tried selling the brick on e-bay .... as you can guess no success.!
bill_in_mtl, sorry bout lateness of my reply ( net problems), yes you do unlock sim and cid. Sim unlock means you can use ANY simcard from any carrier and Cid unlock means you can flash ANY hermes rom (both official or cooked). It needs to be unlocked first as the spl is downgraded to 1.40 (I think) and you should REALLY be running with 2.10 olipro (hard SPL ver 7). I wouldnt bother upgrading to Hard SPL ver 9 a this is essentially only ver 7 with some neat features for developers but it does throw up an error message when you finish flashing a rom(no problems t just feels like it).
Hard SPL WON'T stop you from bricking your phone BUT it will make it easier to recover.
roomtek*8525, sorry to hear that but have you tried flashing with a cooked rom? This unfortunately wont fix the phone part but you will have a working PDA...If you've tried MTTY with info 8 and task 2a commands then thats the best to hope for, Sorry bout that..

Some help for beginner

Dear all,
First of all, many congratulations for the great forum and thanks for all the support given here.
Now, I recognise that problems similar to mine have been discussed elsewhere, so I apologise for opening a new post, however with all the material that I could find, I got a little bit lost, so here is the story.
Some 5 days ago, the screen on my HTC Elf stopped responding to any sort of touch. The green, red and action buttons were working but no touch screen.
I have read several posts, and concluded that one possible problem was a corrupted ROM, so I downloaded latest Onyx ROM and installed it. Phone was upgraded successfully and screen started to work again.
However, the first time I switched it off and then turned it on again, it did not boot up. It gets to the point where it displays Smart Mobility and then switches itself off. The orange light then comes on for about 6-7 seconds, then off for 1-2 seconds, and then on again......
Now it does not seem to be able to charge, but if I switch it on with the camera button on I am able to get to the ROM screen (the 'rainbow screen'), so I have hope that it is not dead.
What can I do to attempt to revive the phone please? Is there a sort of 'format' that can be given so that one can start flashing ROM, etc. from scratch?
Many thanks.
PS: Except for the above, I consider myself as a total beginner in this area.
Hearing that the touchscreen started working again after flashing the ROM, I would conclude it's a software-issue.
In the rainbow-screen, what SPL does your phone run? If it ends with 'cmon', you've installed HardSPL. That means you can flash your phone from the rainbow-screen. Given that your phone won't boot, you should try to flash a new ROM from the rainbow-screen. But first, you have to confirm that you've installed HardSPL.
Good luck!
@mrqips - many thanks for your reply.
The screen says that:
IPL 2.20.0002
SPL 1.11.0000

Sorry Buddy.. It seems that you didn't use HardSPL, unfortunately you won't be able to flash any other ROMs..
Yet.. You might be able to use the Gold Card Method.. Give it a try and see what would happen..
Another point is.. I'm very interested to know how did you flash Onyx ROM.. without using HardSPL nor USPL (as obvious from your IPL), I would say that you used the "White Screen Method" which is by the way.. the least safest way..
Hope That Helped...
Thanks for your feedback.
Actually, I happened to be reading the post by @sbettencourt in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=595856&highlight=smart+mobility
Here, a step-by-step approach is given to recover the phone:
"1º [PRJ] Unbricker ROM discovered (wildcard CID and Model ID)
2º Pick any shipped ROM from this thread:
If you have one P3450 -> here
If you have one P3452 -> here
After this, with luck and good work you recover the phone...
3º Then you must do CID_Unlock... You can search how to do it on Wiki or if you want i got one steps how to do it right here and you can see one video with cid_unlock on my signature..." (pasted from the thread)
I did Step 1, and updated it with the unbricker ROM using romupdateutility, and the phone was recovered! It could load, get to Windows Mobile, etc.
Then, unfortunately, when I did Step 2 (mine is a P3450) so I downloaded a ROM from the page indicated, I tried to update the shipped ROM using romupdateutility, but as soon as it got to 2% it failed saying that the vender ID is invalid.
Now, I don't seem to be able to update it with anything - not even the unbrick ROM. What a shame I almost go there.....

You put the shipped ROM in the same folder with RUU??? Why??? You don't need to do that...
You only need to double click on shipped ROM and the installation process begins...
@sbettencourt,
actually yes what I did was to click on the update directly.
I downloaded the file RUU_Elfin_DOPODASIA_WWE_2.20.707.1R_4.1.13.51_03.07.90_RED_Ship_Reduced.exe and executed that directly.
However, now, even this one is stopping at 2%.
Is there any hope, or have I destroyed the phone?
Thanks.
If you can't flash the Shipped ROM, you have now to try the Gold Card... Follow the steps in that Gold Card thread...
Hello everyone,
I finally managed to revive the device, by flashing it with a 'correct' shipped ROM, which did not give any errors on updating. Big thanks for all your support - you are the best!
As this starts to get addictive, and because I am now running a ROM version which dates to 12/11/2007 (2.27.468.1B WWE), what are the suggestions for upgrading the ROM please? My device is an ELF0100.
Thanks again.
Coool Now try to keep him alive
Very true
I managed to flash it with Onyx Ultimate 4.8 (10/07/2009) and it seems to be performing splendidly.
Thanks for all your help.
Good Job

Stuck stuck STUCK in bootloader - help!

My problem here is that I just cannot get out of bootloader. NO ROM OR RADIO WILL INSTALL ON MY DEVICE.
I've tried using goldcard and attempting numerous .nbh files and each time the update fails on the Radio_V2 part. I've also tried updating with the standard and custom RUUs and these always fail at 91%. the RUU always says 'Error 270....update error...the image file is corrupted' no matter which ROM I use.
Updating the radio only stalls at 96% and gets stuck there.
Currently my bootloader says 'Update ROM code error Please try again. See the attached photo for a screenshot. I am able to connect to a pc ok and run updates.
Ive also tried a hard reset, which WORKS but still doesn't boot up the device.
Can anyone help here? If not it looks like my HD2 is going on eBay for spares!
My SPL is version 1.42
Why is yours 0.67????
I've no idea bro, it's an eBay purchase from before the general release of the device.
I hear the hacked hardspl and sspl is nearly done so maybe this will help you to upgrade the rom?
Have you checked you have not brought some prototype or something as your spl version is way out.
Hope you get it fixed very soon.
How can it show the "SECURITY UNLOCKED" while there is no cid unlock for this device?
How did you do it?
There is something wrong with you..
And an interesting point: your bootloader is different from mine, my updare process shows % progress in number and HTC logo behind the progress bar, yours is different..

i think he as used some hd stuff, not compatible with leo of course
maybe because it's a pre-release (prototype) unit you can't update it to a newer rom
it does sound like a prototype...
shouldnt need gold card.
have you tried flashing from sdcard without gold card in there?
try talking nicely to cmonex to see if she can help?

please searh the forum this one of them but try to find later version of mtty

try flashing without NK.nbf
Try flashing without the radio upgrade by removing the file mentioned in
the title (nk.nbf) from the folder where RUU.exe is exectuted (you might need to hunt fot the install files in the temporrary directories in your computer. The temp files are created after clicking the update.
Anyway, you're a senior You'll know what to so.
If there's no separate radio file for you, I would try taking the batt out,
then do a hard reset.
Peculiar !
Info
Try to flash using an official rom!! If You stil don't get through take off the battery for a couple hours then try again!! But If all this don't help, you'd better try to reflash with the rom you had previously
You used a MFG SPL = Developer SPL. Ask cmonex in the IRC for help. She works with the developer spl for hacking the spl.
good luck
Connect your phone to the PC using MTTY.
Send "set 14 0" (without quotes) and then task 8 to reboot.
Try if it works.

cool keep us posted how you get on.

$25 reward to fix my phone. Problems for over 45 days.

I won't bother with the exact history of things but I'll tell you what's on the phone and what I can't get to work.
SPL-2.00. 10000 XE
Radio 2.06.50.04
ROM Leo lite 2.6 WE (21892.5.0.89)
Current ROM works until I try to do anything involving phone radio and then it just locks up. My radio is not up to date for this ROM I assume.
Trying to flash anything at all via LEOIMG microsd card does nothing but sit at the Loading.... screen with never any progress. (I have also tried this with a goldcard that somebody made me and I get the same error.) Have used both a 16gb card and a 2gb card, all formatted to fat32
I am unable to flash a new ROM or new Radio or get the SPL to allow any OEM ROM/SPL package to install via SDcard.
Trying to flash anything with the standard flasher tool and it never did anything but time out. SSPL used to work but now it does nothing but time out. I'm stuck on this ROM, can't change it and phone doesn't work.
What I would like to do is get HSPL back on it, the most current radio and the latest US T-Mobile ROM
If you can help me do this I will pay $25 for the person to help me get it off my phone. There is a chance my goldcard could have been made incorrectly, I don't know anything about them. I can pay you via PayPal or mail you a check, whatever works for you. All I can do is give you my word that I will keep my end of the deal. I'm a 44 year old family man and a department manager of a casino. I would really appreciate any help.
If I posted this in the wrong place please move it but I'm at wits end and just want my phone back to normal.
Edit: Just to be clear, the $25 reward is for getting the SPL 2.0 off of my phone and/or getting me upgraded to the latest radio so I can run the most current TmoUSA ROM properly.
the problem appears to be that you have slightly different hardware to every one else.
didnt realise you were having issues with sspl, that at least should work ok. by time out do you mean there sspl boot screen appears burt nothing else?
if so what happens if you disconnect the usb cable and plug it back in?
if it changes to usb then rerun the sspl without changing anything on the hd2
you could also try - and uninstall the windows drivers for the qualcomm cdma drivers or whatever they are called on you pc. and reconnect in boot loader to let them reinstall.
SSPL used to work, it stopped working after I flashed a newer rom to play with. When I use the SSPL it goes into the bootloader screen just fine, then I hear the USB disconnect sound and the SSPL program times out quickly with the exit button citing no connection.
I have 2 x Windows 7 64 bit computers, 1 x Windows 7 32 bit and one XP 32 bit computer. I get the same results on any of them. All after the most recent ROM upgrade.
I have not tried running SSPL from boot loader screen, did not know that was possible. Trying that now. Just need to download a known working ROM.
If that works I'll be back in the same boat as before, stuck with 2.0 SPL and 2.06 radio. I want that SPL 2.0 off my phone badly.
OK, trying SSPL from the bootloader screen got me a little further towards ROM flashing. I can see the htc on the black screen with the progress bar. It now sits at 0% with no movement indefinitely.
Going to try another ROM and see if I can get the ROM installation to actually begin.
If you still haven't tried it do this: start SSPL when you hear the USB disconnect sound remove the USB cable (either from device or PC) and then connect it again! this should allow the SSPL to enter USB mode! I've had similar problems long ago and this trick was doing the job! Not sure that it will help you but just a thought!
Newb here:
I had something similar. I installed HSPL and everything was fine thereafter. The radio wouldn't flash any other way, in fact it would disconnect like you said, or if I manualy took the phone to boot loader, it would stick at 0%.
There is a HSPL thread stickied in the ROM section and I believe it explains how to remove it if you need to "re" validate your warranty. Although reading once more it does say you need SPL 1.42 to get it to install.
Have you tried installing an official HTC ROM downlaoded from their site? This will take you back to the original SPL version 1.42...
I don't have HSPL on my phone, I have SPL 2.0 Nothing is out currently to remove a later SPL with the exception of flashing an OEM full package ROM through the sd card but that doesn't work for me.
I have tried multiple roms now using SSPL from the bootloader screen and none will move the progress bar past 0%
Still stuck. : - (
Have you tried to hard spl it? If I missed it in your post, I apologize.
Not in a long while, I should try again I guess but I was totally under the impression that HSPL will error all the time unless you have SPL 1.42 installed on the phone.
Edit: Just tried and it errors because SPL 1.42 is not on the phone, it's the only SPL that HSPL works on as far as I know.
balane have you tried installing a stock rom from your SD card? this would revert the spl back to 1.42 and allow you to then flash HSPL (I think, almost certain) but you said you cant do anything with the sd card, have you tried that? have you tried with different SD cards? also have you made sure that it is formatted to FAT32?
Another thing you could try if all else fails: MTTY, look at the MTTY thread by MystikGenius, its stickied in the rom development section, this will format your phone from which you can then try to flash from usb or sd. I would recomend trying to flash from SD which then again may revert your spl.
Im going to school now so I wont be able to help you anymore 8 or so hours, but PM me later if your still stuck.
I may be wrong but from what I read in the threads I thought it was not possible to go back to anything under 2.0 once you flash a 2.0 SPL. You can't flash back to 1.48 or 1.66. You might be able to flash the new TMOUS which is in the 2.0 SPL range.
Yes, I've tried dozens of stock roms from the sdcard, every one I could find in fact and they all hang at the Loading... screen. As stated in the op, I used two different cards both formatted to fat32. I guess I could try a third card, not sure if it's worth a try or not.
I looked at MTTY but that doesn't do a thing with SPL and my SPL is the root of my issues.
Update: I finally did find a ROM I could get flashed via SSPL. It took like 3 tries to get the progress bar going but it did get installed. I can't even recall what series of events got it to go but at least my phone turns on and works.
Still the same SPL and radio though. No change there.

I could have swore I read some people who were able to get the SPL 2.0 off their phones but I could be mistaken. I'm actually ok with any SPL as long as I can sspl different ROMs. I just want to get the radio current so I can run the latest TmoUS ROM, I would totally and 100% pleased with being able to update the radio. I have found now way to flash a more current radio.
balane said:

No it won't be SSPL as we know it, the HTC stock ROM you can download from their site (Google "HTC HD2 DOWNLOAD") will use it's own method of getting onto your device and will reload SPL 1.42 for you. Although apparently you may not be able to do this with SPL 2. You say you have done it with a gold card, have you tried the stock rom downloaded from HTC via USB?
Otherwise, pester bepe for when the HSPL comes out that is compatible ywith SPL 2!

When you say oem, do you mean just the nbh with which you have tried to install using tools or the self extracting exe that HTC provide? I'm just asking cos to me, oem means it comes without all the manufacturers extras.
I've always been under the impression that the only way to downgrade an SPL was to install a complete OEM package ROM/Splash/Radio/SPL as a LEOIMG.nbh from the root of the SD card. I've tried dozens of these both from US based ROMs and abroad. None of gone past the Loading.... screen. I've tried 1.42 and above ROMs, no luck with any.

[Q] EU HD2 stuck on 'htc quietly brilliant'

Update: Maybe stock rom is not flashing because i'm not getting the correct ROM for this phone?
Could someone PLEASE help me identify the correct stock ROM with the below serial number of the phone?
Hi Xda gods,
I shows me as a noob because i forgot my old account password!
Anyway, I have with me a friend's EU HD2. Details as follows:
HTC HD2 T8585
S/N: SH06KNW01615
The following are the problems with the phone:
1. I think he had someone try to upgrade the radio on the phone WITHOUT HSPL first because it used to show a 'software update failed, please try again' msg when turned on.
2. Installed HSPL 2.08 successfully and tried to install radio version 2.15.50.** and that didn't work either. got an error 264 i think which said 'this update utility cannot be used on your PDA'.
3. Read in many threads that a possible solution could be to flash back to a stock ROM that came with the phone via SD card method but after abt 3% i get an error saying 'radio v2 FAILED, LEOIMG.NBH FAILED, Update Failed'.
4.Used Mtty and followed the steps..set value to 14 0, task 29, task 8...and then flashed a custom rom through SD card...
5.The cutom rom flased fine but now phone is stuck on 'HTC quietly brilliant' and does nothing else.
Could one of you brilliant minds PLEASE help me solve this problem? i tried for more than 7 hours yesterday but didn't get anywhere...
thanks in advance!
Custom ROM did not have a Radio included so expect trying a Radio such as linked in my sig may be worth another go.
If problems persists could be memory issue or other hardware issue.
Thanks Mister B for the quick response..
I tried flashing a radio before flashing a custom Rom but got the same 'This update utility cannot be used on your PDA' error..tried radios: 2.15.50...2.12.something..even 2.08.50 but all with the same error...
You try radio after flashing ROM ?
What custom ROM are you using ?
Try to flash official ROM. It will update your radio.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
"stuck radio" - pretty common error, with varying symptoms. Yours is the standard set of symptoms, , , everything flashes except radios, nothing boots (because radio is corrupt and cannot initialise, i presume).
Other variants are
- spl/hspl appears to flash ('we hacked it' when running hspl.exe) but doesn't change
- radio wont flash but custom roms WILL flash and boot (radio is stuck but not corrupted)
- spl and radio are both stuck and won't change.
Sadly, there are very few success stories regarding this error, however there are one or two, so don't give up hope just yet.
Primarily though, you need to find the correct stock roms, , tried contacting htc support? that's where i would start.
Then, once you know the correct roms to use, get all versions (i.e the 1.42, the 1.66 ((or 1.72 if its branded)) and 3.14) roms for that region/carrier, and try flashing them from sd card. There have been one or two occasions where trying again and again just suddenly works, and there are one or two more where using the freezer trick makes it work.
If your spl is currently 2.x then you need to change that,,, 2.x is NOT a stock spl for regular hd2's, only for tmous hd2's, and it can cause issues as it doesnt like being downgraded, even by sd card flashing. In which case, use hspl2 to set 1.66.0000 and go from there with the sd card flashes, , start with 1.42.
Mainly tho, prepare for bad news, that way when you've exhausted all possibilities you wont be as disappointed, and if it DOES suddenly take, it will be a bonus.

Thanks for the feedback.
Actually, HSPL flashes fine..after the 'we hacked it' screen i go into bootloader again and the HSPL has installed.
With custom Roms, they flash fine but stay stuck at the boot screen and nothing else.
Tried every possible method even with Mtty but to no avail! No radio will flash!!
I'm currently on 2.08 but i will downgrade to 1.66 or 1.42 like you said and try again..
It was a branded htc but i installed HSPL..should i still try only stock roms or custom roms are fine?
Also, i saw in someone's post that their bricked HTC was brought back to life using the Goldcard method with dutty's Rom...maybe i can try this method.
Will let you guys know how it turns out.
Excuse me "hijacking" the thread with a question - I've been through this and another long thread about "stuck" radios and not seen a definitive answer (perhaps there isn't one).
In which part of the phone's firmware does the "carrier lock" reside, and what form does it take, is it in the bootloader, radio rom, or main firmware?
I've just purchased a second hand carrier locked HD2. I don't specifically want to unlock it as my sim matches it, but I have installed hspl, using hspl4, with a view to playing with ROMs, and wondered how far you can go without unlocking.
I'm quite used to flashing roms from previous unlocked HTCs I've owned, but I've never had a carrier locked phone before, hence the question.
You can flash away as normal, Carrier SIM lock makes no difference but for the cheap price of HD2 unlocking it may be wise to get a code & unlock it know rather than perhaps the future.
Thanks. I might well take your advice on unlocking bearing in mind the minimal cost.
Still puzzled, as a few of the queries I've seen seem to suggest the problems flashing different radios some folk were having were down to the phone being carrier locked. Or, maybe it was just a case of certain radios only working with certain firmwares (and maybe with certain spls) and nothing to do with carrier lock at all?
Sorry for my apparent ignorance on the subject!

you have a regular hd2, therefore all radios will work on your phone, , but with some caveats.
If you intend to
a - use wp7 or nand android..
b - use a custom wm6.5 rom that unlocks the 576mb ram
then you MUST have a tmous radio - which translates to - you MUST use a radio with ..50.. in teh version.
i.e 2.07.51. will not work, 2.07.50 WILL work.
ALL radios will have either 50 or 51 in that third set of digits, if a radio doesn't, dont download it, go find another one. (some radio downloads may show the protocol version first, so it may say something like ''15.32.50.07U 2.07.51.22 2'' in which case its a 51 radio
Many people (myself included) find that some radios give slightly better reception and/or battery and/or less wake from sleep issues than others, however its not consistent, , what works well for one hd2 may not be the optimal for the next hd2 in the same location.
In general tho, most people seem to have settled on 2.11.50, 2.12.50 2.14.50 or 2.15.50.
(For simplicity, go flash 2.15.50 and you can forget about it till you've got everything else working)
Dont bother going lower than 2.10, theres nothing down there thats any better than those four.
As for the radio brick from flashing the wrong radio, thats tmous hd2 only, you can ignore that.
Carrier being locked will have no effect on anything you do, though you cannot unlock it under android, you need to be running winmo 6.5 to enter an unlock code and make it stick.
(Reports on this vary slightly, some people say they have successfully entered a carrier unlock code under android, , , i'm sceptical)
Big note - - - Anything that refers to a tmous, or a tmobile hd2, or a tmobile radio, , does not apply to you, just because it may be t mo provided, or locked to tmo, or running a tmobile branded stock rom,. its still a regular hd2 you have (well, assuming you didnt get an import from the states? it would say t mobile under the earpiece, and have red and green end/send keys if its a tmous). Only t mobile usa bought a different version hd2 from HTC.

Don't be! Sceptical, I mean... They're right!
I've managed to unlock by code a few TMoUS-version HD2s under Android(various versions, I don't remember...)!
Unlocking by wires is another story: it can be done under WM, only!

Thanks so much for all the nuggets of info. I actually have radio 2.15.50 already, so it can't be bettered and is ready for android if I decide to go that route.
The info relating to Android and carrier lock (that it doesn't make any difference unless you want to unlock) is also very useful.
From what you've said it seems carrier locking has very little effect on anything other than, er, choice of sim
So, sorry to be persistent, where does the carrier lock info reside in the phone? In other words, when you unlock a phone, officially or otherwise, where are the bits of information which change? It's purely out of curiosity - I need to know these things
Sorry, no clue, I'd suspect some dedicated chip somewhere, since its not affected by anything we have access to. Just a wild guess tho.

The SIM lock is part of the bootlaoder, more specifically the IPL. This is what only Win Mo ROMs can be used to SIM unlock a HD2 because only Win Mo ROMs can actually communicate with the IPL of the bootloader. Now let me go a little deeper, like Samsamuel said it is more than likely a seperate chip somewhere on the mainboard of the HD2 that actually stores the SIM lock but only the IPL can access and change the data on that chip.
Thanks to you both for the info. That would explain why being network locked has almost no effect on anything else like ROMs etc. The actual info might even be stored in flash in the chip which "drives" the sim.
I think the problem could be somewhat overcome if i knew which would be the correct stock rom for this phone! Its quite maddening!
My phone's serial starts with SH which i know is Shanghai, China but i haven't been able to find a 1.66 stock rom for this..
Thoughts?

Fone HTC support, they'll tell you in seconds.
Also, there are no branded 1.66 roms, ,, because branded 1.66 roms carry the verson number 1.72.
