Does Vista hate WM5? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi
getting to the point of pulling my hair out. I have an Orange M600 running WM5. The only change I have made is to make the GPS icon visible.
I have a new laptop running Vista Home Premium.
I have downloaded the latest version of Windows Mobile Device Centre (WMDC).
When I connect my M600 to my laptop (via USB), the phone screen turns on and the phone starts charging.
But the laptop refuses to recognise that there are any devices attached. No drivers are installed and WMDC does not list any connected devices.
The cable and phone work perfectly with my XP PC but not with the Vista laptop.
This is a little frustrating. Anyone else come across this problem and solved it?

Solved
Finally resolved this.
The USB cable that worked on my XP desktop must have had a fault on it, because a different USB cable on the laptop got it all working fine.
Vista Home Premium/ Windows Mobile Device Centre / WM5 all seem to work together.

USB Sync via Windows Mobile Device Center

Hi,
I have recently obtained a T-Mobile MDA, I currently own a Diamond and I thought this would be a good introduction into WINMO for my younger brother. I initally wanted to flash the ROM with a Manilla 2d ROM however I can't even connect to my Device Center! (using the USB cord - which still charges the phone BTW)
I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit (which i thought could be the problem) but when I connect any other WM phone it works fine, it installs the software & shows the icon of the phone. With this "Nike" it does nothing, I can see MyMobile trying to connect over & over again but once again nothing! I've even done a Hard-Reset to try and rule out possibilities...
Does anyone have a solution/suggestion as to the cause of this problem? If I reconnect the Diamond straight afterwards it works perfectly!

Vista not recognising device

My M3100 did previously sync fine with vista but two months later on the same 'puter it's not recognised now. It'll sync fine with another 'puter on XP and activesync 4.2 so I doubt the problem lies with the M3100. On Vista (32 bit Ultimate) I have WMDC 6.1. I've tried turning off Zonealarm (windows firewall is permanently off). I've tried deleting the mobile adapter and letting it reinstall. I've tried it with and without a microSD in and tried soft resetting it whilst connected. I've tried several cables and a cradle and also several USB ports. I'm fresh out of ideas and hope to pick the brains of someone who knows better please. Running WM5 if that makes any difference to things though I did tinker with it to get it to work with a 4GB card (It did sync with that set-up previously).
After vast mucking about I've just got a sync by going:-
start
settings
connections
usb to pc
disabling the advanced network functionality
Hey presto it works though to what degree I've still to find out!

mobile device center (Vista) & HTC Pro 2

I recently had to replace my notebook, new one came with Vista, also coincided with purchase of Touch Pro 2.
my current kaiser (WM 6.0) works fine, connect usb, vista fires up mobile device center.
connect pro 2 (WM6.1) via usb , nothing, device center does not start up.
run active sync on the pro 2, Sync button is grayed out. I have set 'sync all pc's....' to usb in the connections screen.
have checked other threads but so far come up blank.
can anyone point me in the right direction to possible fixing this, I need to reload some software not to mention I would like to and would like to check out some of the roms on this sight.

Have you tried starting mobile device center manually? Also had some troubles now and then, reboot of my pc and softreset of my phone usually fixed my problems. Else most responses will probably include the usual: remove all partnerships and/or reinstall mobile device center.
Btw, does your device show up in your hardware list or under my computer when connect it to your USB port?
mobile devioce center (Vista) and htc pro 2
have tried pc reboots and htc reset, no go.
If i connect my kaiser it appears as a device under my computer and device center picks it up.
connect the pro 2, does not appear as a device under my computer and if device center running does not attempt a connect, if device center not running vista does not start it
also no partnerships currently set up.
did have a kaiser one , deleted this when the pro 2 did not connect

Well as far as I know Windows should at least show your device under My Computer, even without a partnership or without even having Mobile Device Center installed.
So my best guess is there is some conflict which prevents your TP2 from even connecting to your notebook. Have you tried connecting it to a desktop PC? Or are you trying to connect it through an USB hub or something? If so it is possible the hub isnt delivering enough power.
I had the same issue and ending up hard resetting my phone before I figure what I did wrong. Go to settings on TF3D then all settings. Go to connections, and under usb to pc, select active sync. If it says disk drive it will not work in active sync. Also if the enable faster data sync is checked...uncheck it. Sometimes this causes an issue.
Go to settings and choose USB->PC Settings. Here you can disable "fast synch". Now it should work, if not, activate "fast synch" ^^
YOu might want to re-instal active sync ( device center ), I had a simulair problem, and it was solved
gz reb3lzrr
rodium and vista sync
firstly thanks for the many replies.
still no go
reinstall device center
rebooted pc, reset phone.
tried with a xp laptop with active sync, still no go.
neither pc recognises the rodium phone.
when I attach my kaiser each pc 'chimes' , ie recognises the attachment and activesync or device center start up and connect
rodium nothing.
tried each of the usb ports and couple of cables, all work for kaiser non work for rodium.
Hi. I have had the same problems. Disable fast sync like my man neonoxDE said. That will help you. Altough it helped me. With Win7 you can sync with that option enabled.
(QUOTE: Go to settings and choose USB->PC Settings. Here you can disable "fast synch". Now it should work, if not, activate "fast synch" ^^)
thanks tried that as well, still no joy.
Its has if the phone is not telling the op system that its there. Ie the interupt to the op system that happens when a usb device is attached is not happening, or being ignored.
i had the same problem. i had to uncheck the box advanced network funtions. that wen you go in to settings and usb to phone.
that was the problem with my phone sync.
sorry for bad english.
Ugh
Just went through this all tonight. Also coming from a Kaiser (AT&T Tilt).
To get it functional, I had to:
1.) Add Remove Programs
2.) Remove Windows Mobile Device Center
3.) Remove Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update (if you installed it).
4.) Disconnect USB from phone.
5.) Reboot
6.) Reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from CD (Sprint here).
7.) Install Windows Mobile Device Center Drvupdate. (WMDC dir on Sprint CD, called drvsomething or other, depending on if you're 64 bit or x86 on your PC).
8.) Then had to "Clear Storage" on the phone and let it clear itself (a simple reset did not let this work)
9.) Once soft reset was completed, I could connect the phone, it then found it, and worked correctly.
Yeesh.
Unchecking the box everyone is saying didn't have an effect for me, though I tried it many times before going all nuclear.
Thanks for this.
Tried this on my vista laptop still no go.
If I connect my kaiser 'installs device driver software' pop up displays and when this is finished windows mobile device center starts up.
Initial connection of pro2, nothing
After having the pro 2 connected for at least 45 mins I did get an an install device driver message, the device was unknown and device center did not start up.
so it appears that the pro2 was recognised has an unkown device
additional info
loaded down a usb moniter onto my laptop.
When I plug in the Kaiser usb monitor shows connection of the device on the specific port.
Unplug this and plug in the PRO2 onto the same port nothing shows as being connected.
rapidlycomming to the conclusion problem with the data pin outs on the USB, does anyone know of a diag program that could test this out or an easy way to check this.
save me the initial cost of checking by a repairer (which in the UK can be steep)
Although my TP2 will sync with USB, most of the time I sync via a bluetooth connection.
Have you tried doing it that way?
Maybe this will work.
One unconventional way to fix this, is to go to your phones activesync. select menu, then change it to bluetooth sync. After that, soft reset phone and connect via usb.
Windows Update
Try conducting a Windows update manually when your phone is connected via USB cable.

HD2 won't connect to PC

Hi there,
I've had my HD2 for 2 weeks now and its been working perfectly. I decided to hard reset my phone and start again from scratch. However, now when I connect it to my PC it doesn't connect or recognise it at all, it charges though. I also tried it on my laptop, thinking it might be my PC but its just the same. This is really frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Goto "Start/Menu/All Settings/Connections/USB to PC" and ensure ActiveSync button is green.
If you are running Vista or Win7 you have to install Windows Mobile Device Center. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
If not the normal Active Sync will not see the phone.
Hey guys. I know this a old thread. I notice ever since I used the program here to change the radio on my htc hd2 that my computer no longer detects my phone with snyc cable even if I have Windows Mobile Center 6.1 installed an such. The programs pop up though when I look on device manager there no unknown devices or anything. In fact I don't even hear a sound of any sort that a usb device was plug into my pc same thing on my laptop. I even put back original tmobile rom on my htc hd2 no resolve. When I fflash it with Leoimg.tbh or how ever you spell it I put it in my sd card. Any ideas on how to get the old phone to work on windows 10 again? or is something mess up in the coding on official rom or on how I flash it back to stock?. I wish I had a old pc with windows vista to see if it just windows 10 or what. Just seems so odd
no reaction from phone nor pc
Hi, guys i have similar problem, but it has nothing to do with Active Sync. The device won't notice that it is connected to the pc (it won't ask (this option is ticket) if it should act as card reader, modem or Active Sync) so as pc won't show new device. Strangely, while the device is connected into an outlet charger via cable including data wires and "don't charge if connected to a pc" option is ticket in hd2, it acts as it is connected to a pc and won't charge. When it is connected to a charger with unseparable cable (which i suppose hasn't have data wires) it starts carkit menu. For me it seems like something is shorted but i'd like to hear some other suggestions before i try to disassemble it and look inside.

HTC Touch P3452 (256/128) Sync Problem

I have a problem synchronising my HTC Touch P3452 (also called T-Mobile XDA Touch / the model with 256 Rom / 128 Ram).
Simple: It doesn't work.
When I connect the USB cable the batterie starts being charged, but there is neither the typical Windows sound when an USB device is connected, nor does the "Windows Mobile Devices Centre" recognize the device.
When I try to start the active sync connection in the connection manager of the HTC touch it tells me to install the synchronising software first or to configure an exchange server.
Enabling or disabling the hook for "advanced network functions" in the "USB to PC" settings of the HTC touch connection options makes no difference.
Some infos:
ROM-version: 2.81.111.1 GER
Rom-date: 08/29/07
ExtROM-version: 2.81.111.103
I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64bit, DHCP-device-service is active, all updates are installed.
I'd try updating the firmware, but obviously it's not possible without a working active sync connection.
PS: My older HTC Touch P3450 (128/64) has no problem at all. I connect it, it starts synchronising. The HTC Touch 3452 is from a friend of mine and when I asked him he said he was able to synchronize, but under Windows Vista. I don't see why it shouldn't work in Windows 7.
Hi
Ì don't have Win 7 but I think I read somewhere you have to put it in compatibility mode with Win xp
Edit: a little search and I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519602
(you should try it too )
Put what in WinXP compatibility mode? The HTC? How. I never heard this was even an option.
Or do you mean the mobile device center? Why should I do that, it's a programm native to Win7 and it works with the older HTC, so normally it should with the never device, too.
And about your second link...well I already have Win7 (not the RC version) and the latest version of the windows mobile device center is already installed (came with the operating system). There is no windows update for that either, just checked.
I'll try to get my hands on a bluetooth-usb-stick, see if that connects properly. Unfortunately I don't own one...
I don't see any problem with my P3452 sync with Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit Version. In fact it work instantly when I connect the USB cable to my laptop after I upgraded my laptop to Windows 7.
Did the cable connect properly? or the USB port on the phone itself?
How many pc the phone have sync to? I remember cannot be more than 2, but I might be wrong.

It's only one PC and I think the cable connects properly, because the phone is getting charged when I attach the cable. On the other hand there is no Windows sound indicating a USB-device has been connected and the device doesn't show up in the workstation.
So it might be the USB connector which is broken (the cable worked without any problem on my older HTC so it should be okay). As the device is already a few years old I don't have any guarantee left.
On the weekend I will try to connect it via bluetoot with my brothers notebook (don't have bluetooth on my pc). If that works I will get me a cheap bluetooth usb dongle...
Also check pins aren't bent inside on the phone?

They look okay to me. Nicely in a row, none is bent.
After some little trouble setting it up, synchronizing via bluetooth worked today.
Thanks for all the answers.
