No cleartype, smart dialer, auto complete, High speed USB - Wing, P4350 General

I have a brand spanking new HTC branded Herald, but alas,
1. It is missing the cleartype option.
I tried the registry hack and added the key: HKLM/Control Panel/MainLCD/Clear Type
and set it to 1 but to no avail.
2. Smart dialer I managed to add using the SmartDial cabs I found on this forum (I forget where)
3. There is still no auto complete for contacts when I type sms, or for when I type english words. How to enable this?
4. HTC advertises a few bundled programs, one of which is a "high speed" usb capability for the Herald. I have no such option
They also have a bundled app that supposedly adds the close function to the x button too.

Can anyone help with any of these???

Hi guys! Had my M5000 for about 10 days now and finally getting used to it but I wonder if anyone canm help with any of the following questions??
1. How do we edit the dictionary?? I can't even find how to add words and that would be REALLY handy as I normally use the phone pad for typing!
2. Can we select a default input method? (I use the phone pad but it always reverts to popup keyboard)
3. Can we change what the soft keys to on the today screen? (I'd dearly love to change Calendar to Messaging!)
4. I prefer to keep event, program and notification sounds all turned on but can I disable the start button click and the noise it makes when opening programs or settings??
5. My device is set to turn off after three mins - Is there a way to make it turn on again when I press ANY button? (I swear the power button moves in the dark lol)
6. When I go into my games menu it takes just over 40 seconds to list them all (I have about 20 games all installed on my memory card) - Does anyone know what might cause this??
7. Is there a way to get these phones to receive files over bluetooth from other make of phone? Mates with both Nokias and Sony have tried sending me pictures over BT but no luck
Think that's it for now - Sorry if any of these are stupid questions with obvious answers that I've missed but I'm pretty sure I've tried every damn menu on the device now lol! I'm also hoping that there's things here that other people would also like ot know!
Thanks
1. The dictionary can have words added to it by making a document in Word (named, for example: 'Personal dictionary') and saving it. Any word you add will be in the dictionary from that point on (as long as the document is not deleted).
3. Try registry hack here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry
5. Try 'Settings' - 'Buttons' - Lock tab - 'Do not lock buttons'
4. Not sure if there's a reg hack for it, I've searched for the filenames below and their paths to no avail. but the only other way would be to remove the following files from \Windows:
hwandsw.wav
MenuPop.wav
If you remove or copy these to a different location, then you won't hear anything. During the old XDA / XDA2 and i phases, I used to swap the WM2002/3 sounds for PC Windows noises. Later, when it came to 2005, I used the set contained on here as they were much nicer.
6. If they're on the SD card then presumably it has to search the SD for all of the .exe files. This could be improved by perhaps defragging your card (StorageTools is a good app for this). Another thing may be to try creating links to your game .exes in a folder on the PHONE, and replace the Start > Programs > Games icons with links to the PHONE copies. You can add / remove these by going to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games
7. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Registry - look for the section entitled To change the ability to receive files via Bluetooth (OBEX)
Ant
Hi
The registry obex 'hack' does exactly the same thing as going to settings, comms, beam, and clicking the selection box 'recieve all beams' Beam = Ir AND Bluetooth.
I find that the button lock setting does not work. With it set to 'do not lock' you still cant press any button to switch the unit on
Nigel
Thanks for the tips guys
Maybe I should have been more specific with the dictionary thing - I want to be able to add words to the predictive text (Town/friends names for example) - Does adding them to the dictionary do this??
Yes, adding any words to the dictionary adds them to predictive text, as well. The predictive text uses the dictionary.
Plus you'll find that as you type more and more, it will automatically add words you spell out it doesn't recognise.
Ant
Thanks guys - Especially for the registry link - Some REALLY great stuff there
hmmmmm... One quickie though:
For example, to change the left-hand softkey to start Pocket Excel you would set
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\(Default) = Pocket Excel
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\Open = \windows\pxl.exe
Anyone know how I set this to open contacts???

How do I truly remove HTC SIP keyboard?

Guys, I need to remove the HTC keyboard/keypad (pic below for clarity) as I am using CooTek's TouchPal and the HTC option keeps on popping up as the default (altho it is not set as the default).
I HAVE used the reghack to disable the CLSID key, which removes the SIP fromt he list of SIPS, BUT it still pops up a lot despite not being the default.
Uninstall does not work; I suspect as several files are in use which also manifest as errors during backup. I need to completely disable this SIP (perhaps in some sort of safe mode) then uninstall the files. They are not processes I can stop, nor can I see a service that can be stopped.
Any bright ideas? Extensive searching shows nothing on this. Device is an Elf/Touch.
same thing here, I would love to get rid of this thing. It is totally driving me nuts.
Use a program called "SIPChange" After you select the SIP of your choice, soft reset and you'll be set.
You can also disable HKLM\Software\Tegic (the hole folder).

Yep, that did the trick: deleted key, reboot, uninstall then works.
Thanks a stack!
Did you truly succeed in totally getting rid of it? HOW? It's in ROM; the .dll's won't unregister, can't be deleted. I deleted the reg key and rebooted--no change. Modified the key under CLSID, rebooted, and it wasn't listed in the list, but it was the first input method to come up anyway! I love the Touch, but I hate this thing. Very grateful for any help.
Later: OK, I think I got it. Some combination of deleting the Tegis key and zero-ing out the CLSID keys.... It seems to be gone...but I'm keeping a hammer close at hand, just in case.
anybody here can give out a workable sequence of actions to get rid of stock keyboard on HTC Touch? thanks
This procedure worked for me:
0. First, set the default input method to something other than HTC Keyboard or HTC Keypad (search these forums for reg hack or "defaultIM.exe");
1. Search the device's registry for "issip" (short for "issipinputmethod");
2. At each found "1", go up to the parent key and identify the input method;
3. When you find each of "HTC Keyboard" and "HTC Keypad" input method, go up to its parent key (the long numeric string) and *delete that whole key* (for safety, export it first so you'll have a backup);
4. Now go into HKLM\Software and *delete*the whole "Tegis" key.
5. Soft reset.
Notes: (a) Merely setting "issipinputmethod" to "0" for the unwanted items was not effective. (b) Since those unwanted input methods are part of ROM, there's nothing in "Remove Programs" to uninstall. I did try explicitly installing them (you can find the .cab in these forums), then uninstalling, but that was useless.
P.S. If you'll export the reg keys from steps 3 and 4 and upload or PM them to me, I'll turn them into a "remover" to make this easier for others in future.
can you plase explaine what you main in this step:
{{{4. Now go into HKLM\Software and *delete*the whole "Tegis" key.}}}
thank you
If I understood your original question, you want to remove the "HTC Keyboard" and "HTC Keypad" input methods. The "Tegis" key in the device's registry, under H_Key_Local_Machine\Software, contains information about those input methods and must be deleted. If you don't see any "Tegis" key, then the Trinity must be different in some way.
i have "ADW version 1.1 WWE" ROM
the default HTC keyboard in this rom is only keyboard, I did the procedure you mentioned but in point 4 i did not see "Tegis" i have "Tegic" and i delete it but after soft rest the system freeze and i was forced to hard reset.
Found CLSID reg keys
I use Total Commander for accessing the register, but the search option does not work in there.
So I went through the ID's by hand. It took some time, but hell, it pays off if the annoyance is gone!
The CLSID's:
Touch-toetsenbord (Touch-keyboard):
{62B00599-25D2-4e09-8C48-03BF26DB8517}
Touch-toetsenblok (Touch-keypad):
{198D503A-EFFE-4afd-BC54-EED333C80E6D}
I found this in the HTC Touch Cruise WM6 (original) Dutch language.
If there is a typo in my strings, just look for the first part, before the first "-".
I hope it helps, just like it helped me.
can those who have done it successful tell us if restarting
your phone now takes a longer time?
I've tried disabling the default keyboard, and switching it to
PCM keyboard. Then remove default from list and make PCM keyboard
the new default.
I find that startup takes longer after that.
Hard resetted twice.
Is this method of complete removal better?
Unable to reboot now!

ok.. let me make this simple for everyone.
SIPChange DOES work.. for everyone (for supported OS)
the thing is, that there's a delay you need to apply for it. now.. i know the delay box in SIPChange is problematic.. so i what i did to solve this (on 4 different devices) is to change the delay in the registry.
now the tricky part is, that each different device, with each different rom and it's different set of programs installed has a different sipboot delay. so what you need to do is increase the delay until it works. this will take a few resets but .. what to do
put this in a reg file and change the delay everytime...
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\The Paradigm Group\sipchange\Parameters]
"Delay"=DWORD:000000A0
change the value (Hexadecimally!) until it works. (to my knowledge it could move between 10 to 30 seconds (between a stacked polaris and a stuffed wizard))
now.. make SURE you chose the right SIP you wanted before you do that (or change the reg value for it (it's in the same regfolder).
enjoy.
My 2 Cents
I've been battling with this on my HTC Touch Diamond, trying both Resco Keyboard Pro 5.11 and TouchPal 3.5 and have discovered the following:
(1) Even using SIPChange or SKTools to change DefaultIM, I cannot get any non-HTC/non-Microsoft keyboard layout to be persistent across a soft reset.
(2) If I set any HTC layout (Full QWERTY, Compact QWERTY or Dial Pad) or the standard (small) keyboard as my input method, it is persistent across soft resets.
(3) According to Microsoft (on MSDN):
The default Input Method must be signed with a privileged or unprivileged certificate so that it can successfully load during the boot process.
Click to collapse
My assumption is that either these 3rd party keyboard layouts are not signed, or that HTC is doing something "special" that allows their keyboard layouts to be persistent across a soft reset... possibly some code in WM releases past the AKU2 Windows Mobile 5 ROMs that checks for a "non-preferred" input method as DefaultIM and if it finds one in the DefaultIM registry key reverts it back to the standard keyboard layout.
I would use the HTC Full QWERTY layout (or even the Compact one) if it had one feature: Feedback sound! I find it annoying that they provide no audible feedback (or even a visual cue) when you press a key. At least Resco and TouchPal do that!

How to Change XT9/ABC default settings?

I have the 20 Key Touch Dual (nike) and XT9 works great, but depending on what program you are using some applications start in "abc" mode by default. This seems dependant on what feild you are in; Subject feilds like a new calendar item always starts in "abc" mode, where notes and message feilds start in XT9. If you change the settings it will default back next time you open that application. Is there a way to change the default keypress settings to always start in XT9 for all feilds or a way to remember your preference inside each feild.
Anyone have a suggestions/tweak/fix?
Thanks-
Jcostanza4
i also need to fix this it is really annoying
I think you are right and that it's determined by the field or the application. I've noticed that it defaults to "abc" in fields and applications where non-standard (unusual) language is often used; i.e. calendar entries, phone book, connections settings fields, etc.
There must be a workaround though...
Does anyone found a solution to this??
It's really annonying to have to change everytime for having the xt9 enable. I found a sort of shortcut: long press on the button "*/xt9" and then press "1" but you have to do it each time...
Don't we have a good programmer who knows how to make cab to get rid of this??
i tried this, you can change the keyboard to the normal one, non new htc, this it will be of.
Guys it's simple use file explorer and go to Window\xT9Settings and click to launch settings menu there you can check on/off the following:
-Spell Correction
-Next Word Prediction
-Auto Substitution
-Word Completion
-Multitap Word Completion
Don't know why HTC have hidden it in the windows directory!! it should have been placed in the systems menu in any case you can always create shortcut for it in the programs menu.

But the is no option there to disable or enable xT9 in all applications.
I think this is the same issue as being discussed in this thread - maybe they should be merged.
Even though this thread is the 20-key version the way it reads to me we are all looking for the reg key(s) that set the behavior of xT9...

Im not looking to disable the XT9, but to enable it in every feild by default or ABC mode. Right now certain feilds default to ABC or XT9, so knowing which feild defaults to what is always a pain. If I get used to typing in one mode only everything would be smooth.
This is one of the biggest things that is bugging the hell out of me at the moment with this device. Everything else has been smooth, Really hope HTC fix this in the next version with either a user option to enable the mode you want to use. I am pretty sure that a registry edit could also do this.

backlight Manager MVBklight 1.4.2

Hello, i was looking for a standalone backlight manager to use in ultimate launch ( with cycling ) and i've found this great stuff on 4pda.ru but unfortunately it's all in russian. I've manage to make it work well on my trinity but i'can't understand all the options and there's no .ini nor lang.text to edit. Some help is welcome for the translation, even if you don't translate the program i would like a russian helper that can list all the options (would be perfect with screenshots). thanks a lot for viewing perhaps helping !!!
P.S. :sorry for english, when you read my posts you know i'm french ; )
UPDATE 06.05.2008 new cab below containing the english mui.cab. Install both then go to config first line of the second tab to change language. All credits to MalVal
MVBklight 1.4.3
1. Install MVBklight.CAB.
2. To change the language: install MVBklight.MUI.CAB, go to settings the first line of the second tab.
3. To change the skin: copy a new skin to Skins folder in program folder and choose this skin in settings.
Thanks a lot it works perfectly now i can configure my cycling function. your great
Your program is really perfect MalVal, I was looking for a stuff like that for a month, really happy that the Dev himself answer me. The torch, the cycling function, the today plugin, the fact that it's multiplatform, nice work. Do you have made other progs ?
Yes. MVBalance. It dysplays remained money in your mobile on today.
But it have only russian interface, and i think it will be difficult to adjust it.
Hi MalVal,
Did you have a short tuto ? How does it works, I launch it, change langage, but did not understand how to make it works!
Thanks for your help
Universal backlight manager MVBklight.
Features:
- System WM2003, WM5/WM6, qVGA, VGA.
- Control of backlight from the today (joystick: right - increases, left - decrease, central button - the settings menu, up / down go to next plugin).
- Popup with backlight regulator (joystick: to the right/up - increases, to the left/down - decrease, closing by the central button).
- Set and get of backlight from a command line (the example, ‘ Cmd 244 ’ - set new, Cmd - returns current).
- Increase/decrease of backlight from a command line (the example, ‘ Cmd + ’ - increases, ‘ Cmd - ‘ - reduces).
- Switch backlight from max to min and back ('Cmd m').
- Cycle change of backlight through Cmd.
Cmd 2 5 7 10 on a circle changes values. If was < 2 sets 2, if < 5 sets 5, ..., if >= 10 sets 2.
Similarly with decrease, Cmd 10 7 5 2 - if was more than 10 sets 10 if > 7 sets 7, ... if <= 2 sets 10.
- Switch on of the necessary backlight at connection to an external power (only if plugin is active) and switch back to battery backlight.
- The torch mode, switch on the maximum backlight and the white fullscreen (Torch.exe in a program folder).
- Settings of colors.
- Support of skin (32-bits RGBA bmp).
- Various kinds of sliders (without skins ).
- Display of backlight value by number or in percentage.
- Possibility of manual input of dwIoControlCode codes (see DeviceIoControl in MSDN) and the registry keys which are responsible for set and get of current value of backlight (these codes and keys differ from a device to device).
Installation:
1. Install the cab in the main memory (not on storage)
2. Start from Start-up-> Programs-> MVBklight or from explorer \Program Files\MalVal\MVBklight\Cfg.exe, make settings.
3. In the same place, in settings switch on a plugin.
Settings:
1. At the first start in line "Settings for" there will be a name of your PDA and will be established default settings for it. If default settings does not work, we can manually adjust it.
2. In the field "Type" choose your PDA type.
Input section, branch and keys of registry in which current values of backlight are stored (Battery and power). For many PDA - HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight, ACBrightness and Brightness.
They can be looked in the registry (corresponding values vary after backlight change by a built-in regulator). In the same place it is possible to find the maximum and minimum.
3. For WM5/WM6 it is necessary to enter corresponding sexadecimal codes DeviceIoControl.
4. Specify a skin folder. There should be four 32-bit bitmas with an alpha-channel (folders should be in a plugin folder).
To find out backlight settings for each concrete device, it is necessary:
1. Find out what file with exptention dll, cpl or any is responsible for backlight on this device (means backlight adjustment through the menu Settings-> System-> Backlight or Brightness ).
Usually this file is in a windows folder and has a certain speaking name of type COMBacklight.dll (on ETEN).
As a last resort, it is necessary to investigate all files suspected on backlight control.
2. It is necessary to copy these files on PC.
3. Then we use IDAPro to disassemble it and try to find options needed.
There are some known settings in attach (my database).
PS. Sorry for my english .
Hi MalVal,
your app did sound so sweet ;-) but unfortunately is does not work on my Artemis.
The slider shows up - but it does not change the brightness no matter what I do.
A couple of observations:
it shows Arte20000 instead of Arte200 and this name is fixed
for device type it says WM2003 but it should read WM6.1 or at least WM6
most of the settings for registry are greyed out and not changable
Might be that the problems come from my Rom being modified ?
Best regards,
mst
Hi MalVal,
Same issue for as mst46. I'm using your soft with Artemis PDA and "ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.01 WM6.1 WWE ROM".
As previously mentioned, only ARTE10000 is proposed and no way to modify other fields as they are "greyed".
BUT, it seems that is it because of the english translation you quickly done. I try removing the cfg.exe.mui file you provide, and then relaunch conf, then, even if written in a langage I cannot understand (russian ?), it is possible to select another item than "ARTE10000" and then are able to edit the following fields.
I try to select WM5/WM6, then HKCU, then ControlPanel\backlight, then Brightness, then ACBrightness, but seems that it has no effect. Difficult to o further when don't know what are the files editing
Could you take a look at it ? Thanks for your support.
Same thing happens with ipaq hx2490b. The device name is correct, the OS appears as WM2003(I haveWM6.1), and other options are greyed.
If default settings does not work, you can manually setup it :
1. Set manual in field Settings for
and restsart Cfg.exe. All fields become accessible.
2. see post above.
Known codes for some HTC:
HTC Hermes, НТС Х7500:
Codes: Pwr - 0x220010, Bat - 0x220018
HTC 4350 Herald:
HTC P3300:
HTC 3400 :
Pwr – 0x8, Bat – 0x7
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight, ACBrightness and Brightness
HTC Wizard:
0x2
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight, ACBrightness, Brightness
iPaq 3715:
Battery – 0x7, Power – 0x8
Registry the same
You can try these. If it does not help, it is necessary to analyze built-in backight manager with IDA.
Hi Malval,
I've been able to make it work with the parameters you provides for my P3300.
But there is still a problem with the translation file I belive.
I first install the Cab, then replace the cfg.exe plus the cfg.exe.mui file with the one you provide in the early post.
When running the conf, it is possbile to have it in english, but it was not possible to select something else than ARTE10000 in the second field (settings for) of the system tab. The "manual" option is not available!
In order to make it works, I remove the cfg.exe.mui file, and relaunch the conf. Then all messages come back to russian, but in the second field of system (settings for I belive it is writen in russian), I was able to select something else than ARTE10000 and I've been able to access following fields (they are no more greyed).
Once the "manual" field selected, I exit the conf, and replace the conf.exe.mui file and I've been able to see what are the fields I was modifying as the langage come back to english.
But, in the "Settings for" field, it is written "(null)", and opening the drop down box, only ARTE10000 is available.
I hope it can helps you in order to modify your code to fix this minor bug.
For those who follow the instruction I gives, and having a P3300 running "ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.01 WM6.1 WWE ROM", I set a "Maximum value" to 4 otherwise you will have a surpise of a blank screen if seting a higher values.
Regards
Hi, JBT1.
Thanks for bag.
I've upload a new one. In the same post. Check it.
I've also add mui for plagin.
In the next release i'll add all files in one cab-file and i'll update database to support artemis.
Hi Malval,
Sounds good this time. Manual is available now in the settings and today plugin menu is in english.
Thank you for this great application.
I have an issue now with the assignement of a button with your popup application. I assign it to the button 6, and it works fine except when running TomTom! If running Tomtom and hitting button 6, it call the default assignment who is the Voice speed dial! I beleive it is a Rom or Tomtom issue.
Will look forward for your next rev
Thank you
I tried it on my Kaiser.
Hanging when changing the backlight.
Working great now on my Artemis. Great tool .
Thank you MalVal !
mst
Can someone post a screenshot of what the actual today plug in will look like? Been trying to get it to work on my kaiser but not having any luck
mattarse, romualdrichard!
I need more information, what is the problem.
Screenshot.
More screenshots in attach. I hope it enough.
please do you have more screenshots of this program?
The backlight doesn't change at all. Im on a kaiser with duttys newest 6.1 rom.
If I leave it set for kaiser it is stuck on WM2003, but changing it to manual and setting it for Wm2005/2006 doesn't help either.
I assume the problem is in one of the other settings, but I reallydon't know what to test.
Any help you can give would be appreciated, I've been looking for a program like this for awhile.

Imagio tips, tweaks, cabs....

Don't hate rhoduim owners but I am going have to steal from your forum. There seem to be many new members and users to htc and windows mobile that are asking basic questions needing basic programs so I have decided to create our own running list to help those people out that are unaware how similar the rhodium is to imagio in software and to add new tweaks and tips as they come. Experienced members please keep adding cabs and I will try and update the list as much as possible.
