CID unlock the same as SIM unlock? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have a T-Mobile MDA G4 which I paid to have CID unlocked about a month or so ago. I was wondering if CID unlocked is the same as SIM unlocked?
I don't need to use the device on another network, just wondering if CID is the same as SIM unlock.

Dave;
You should really read the Wiki first; this very question is addressed there very succinctly, as is many other questions and issues that all of us should read about first. CID and SIM are different, hence the different initials. The WIKI explains what they mean

Cingular 8125 on T-Mobile

When i got the Cingular 8125, and before I did the ROM Upgrade to 2.17.7.2 WWE, I did the recommended CID Superunlock. As far as I could tell everything went great. Unlocking this phone, to me at least, meant that I would be able to use it on other non-Cingular GSM networks. A little bit ago a friend who is on t-Mobile needed to use my phone to make a phone call. He put his sim card in my phone and gave it a shot. When the phone started i was getting an error message about a network being locked. I do not remember the exzct wording.
Any ideas if this implies that the unlocking procedure i did di not work succesfully? or am I missunderstanding what the unlock procedure is meant to do? Is there another unlock procedure to make this phone usable with other providers other then Cingular?
Thank you
The CID unlock allows the installation of firmware with a different "brand" than your hardware was sold as. It has nothing to do with the GSM SIM. Use the latest version of lokiwiz to SIM-unlock your phone. Do a search for lokiwiz and read up on it.
use Lokwiz to SIM Unlock it. CID unlock allows you to flash other Roms.

Yupe.... I did what 'Kyphur' mentioned to used my Tmobile card in my Cingular 8125. I bought Cingular because I like the 'Square' compare to the round design that vario have.

UNLOCKING - the easy guide

Hi everyone.
I have an Orange SPV M700 with WM6, Tengo Free and Tom Tom v6. All working nicely, thanks to all the help on this forum!!
I have one last problem, i have ordered a t-mobile PAYG sim card so i need to unlock my phone for it to work.
I have read the big thread about the CID unlocker and seems some people have been having problems with it uncluding myslef.
Can anyway give me the download that will work or a link to it??? I just want to to able to use t-mobile sim in my phone, but don't want to give orange £20 for privelage.
Cheers a lot guys.
As far as I've been lead to believe once you've flashed the WM6 you should be sim unlocked. That may (assuming I'm correct) be why you've had problems CID unlocking after updating as you're already unlocked.
To upgrade to WM^ i used the three files at the top pf the related thread. Not sure if any of those CID unlocked. Tried a virgin mobiel sim in it and didn't work?
Some phones won't unlock the SIM even with CID Unlockers. HTC, O2 and Voda tend to be unlocked by default; Orange and T-Mobile phones are supplied SIM locked.
I've done the WM6/Radio update and my SPV M700 remains SIM locked to Orange.
I think the only effective way over this is to pay £20 to IMEICheck for a full SuperCID Unlock. Their service is superb if you are willing to pay the price!
Download this and follow the instructions (1 step really) ... http://pof.eslack.org/trinity-unlocker/
Mine is an Orange M700, was SIM and CID locked with original Orange ROM. Ran the above unlocker and could use any SIM on Orangae ROM. Then updated with WM6 and new radio ROM and the phone is still SIM unlocked and SuperCID unlocked. No need to pay any money for this simple thing.

Cool- I'd missed that one! Know he did one for the Hermes
One thing to watch if you are paranoid about Warranties, is that this version works by updating the Radio ROM, which technically is a warranty breach (though as most Orange Techs are so ignorant about these devices, they'd probably not know anyway!)
nice am goin to give it a try
Hi

I think you'll find the answer in this post - just added this post to the wiki for future questions
If you're unsure - butter use USPL one time too much than too little
Cheers, Peter
i have the MDA 3 from tmobile thats CID unlocked isnt it?
The MDA III is CID Locked by T-Mobile, you will need to run USPL first

After (USPL) CID unlocked, Still need SIM Unlock?

Looking for the answer.. THanks
The answer is everywhere but ok...
yes you need.
Cheers
Thanks for ur answer But then sim unlock after update the ROM or b4 update??
Your choice...
But it's better you make USPL first just in case...
It depends on your needs if you need a SIM unlock or not.
You don't need it to flash another ROM, you just need it to use a SIM from another provider than the one you bought it with.
example: I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact III, with T-mobile SIM lock. If I want to use a SIM from Telfort, O2, KPN or another provider I have to remove the SIM lock first.
I've CID unlocked it a long time ago and flashed a dozen of different ROMs with the SIM lock still on. Just a month ago I removed the SIM lock.
