Acessing Folders in 'MY WINDOWS DEVICE' - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi im new to this forum, but it comes highly recommended.
Im having trouble accessing my files on the smartphone through my PC. I had the phone previously before i gt a new one and by going to the my mobile device folder in my computer i could access all the files on the phone when it was connected. Though now on the same phone bt everytime i try to access these files the window itself just closes. I am able to do everything else on the phone but to put mp3 I have to use windows media player and place it on the storage card.
I have tried everyhing from reseting the phone to its original status and upgrading the rom. Please can some one help me as I like to use this way to transfer films and videos to the phone and check other folders. Or if anyone knows of another way to transfer movie files and mp3s to the phone.

It does not seem like there is something wrong with your phone but with your desktop! Try to delete the partnership in ActiveSync.
If you have the know-how you also might remove the drivers for your mobile device manually on your desktop.
uninstall ActiveSync completely and then reinstall (maybe the latest version???)
At least I would try that first ...

How would I remove the drivers from my mobile device manually on the desktop.
I have already unistalled the active sync and downloaded the latest version but i'll try it again.
Thankyou

What phone do you have, what version of ActiveSync do you use, and how do you connect to your PC (USB or BT)?

I have an O2 xda mini, I connect via usb and I have version 4.5 of active sync.

Did you delete the partnership yet? After deleting the partnership, can you connect as a guest and then access your phone via Windows explorer?

I just deleted the partnership and tried going through windows explorer. Once I click on mobile device and go into the folder. The same thing happens as when there is a partnership. I click to go into a folder (any folder) and the windows explorer crashes and the error report comes up asking me to debug or send error report. This is a constant thing no matter what i try

Do you have access to another computer? If so, try using that one. If you don't have any problems, then the problem lies in your computer. I recommend getting a registry cleaner to scan and repair any registry errors.

Problem downloading from PC to storage card

Hi All,
Newbie here so please be nice
I have only had my XDA Mini for a few weeks now and have just tried to copy files from the PC straight to the storage card via Activesync. I open Activesync and click on 'File' then 'Explore'. The explorer window opens but I get this message...
"Critical communications services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device, and then connect again."
I have reset the mini and rebooted my PC many times but it has made no difference. What does it mean and how do I fix this problem?
I believe this is an issue with the built in XP firewall... Install another firewall, disable the built-in one and try again.
Hi,
I have the problem as well from time to time. As an alternative I found out, that you can place files in \My document\<Device name>_Syncronised Files (or similar, sorry I use the german version). If you acitivate ActiveSync feature of syncing files, these files will be transfered to the device. You cannot access the memory card this way but at least you can transfer files even if the 'Explore' funtion is not working.
regards
marco
Thanks Guys.
Marco, I have been downloading via My Documents without any problems. The problem here is that I am limited to the memory on my device. I need to download straight to the Storage Card as the files are larger then the internal memory.
Sunoke, ill try the Firewall thing and see how I go.

Activesync transfer issue.

Hi
I'm trying to shift files backwards and forwards between my pc and my exec, by copying and pasting within explorer windows. I've doen this for years with my ipaqs. I can successfully copy from the pc to the exec, but when doing it the other way, everything appears to be happening normally, but when the transfer finished, the file isn't on the PC! What can I be doing wrong?
P.S Activesync 4.1 is a pile of crap. It's decided not to bother transferring half of my outlook contacts, I think because they have notes.
Also, on a kind of related topic, has anyone noticed that on the box the XDA exec comes in, it states that Windows NT4 is one of the supported operating systems? Not sure how this can be, as you can't install AS4 onto it.
Cheers
Quick update
I did a search by filename of one the documents that I copied from the Exec to my PC and found it buried in a temp file within the documents and settings folder!
Why is it not putting the files where I ask them to go?

I have the same problem too, need help!! anyone knows how to fix this?thanks for any help.
Have you tried disabling file conversion?
Go to Activesync on PC then click Tools -> Advanced Tools -> Edit File Conversion Settings and uncleck the tick box.
If you are trying to copy files from the memory card then the best way is to put the device in Disk Drive mode. Connect device then click Start->Settings->Connection tab->USBtoPC->Disk Drive
I encountered this the other day, I think you can only copy files from the SD card to PC on the phone using active sync.
If however, if you want to copy files from your phone's internal memory, to your PC, i used a differnt program to do this, think it was either called 'My Mobiler' or 'Jeyo Mobile something' so try those programs!
I find ActiveSync to be an extremely poor program, I recommend using 3rd party apps to get full control over your phone!
I tried to use 3rd party application such as my mobiler, still encounter the same problem, any other ways?what the main problem that make this happen?help anyone?

Broken Touchscreen/LCD Backup possible?

Hi,
the Display of my HD is broken and I but can start the device, but can not handle it.
So I Can Not backup my Contacts from the Device to my Computer, because of the system password which is necessary to start Windows Mobile 6.1
It is possible to start the HD in a 'Safe Mode' like Windows to backup all Files from the HDD of my device to my computer (without 'active sync')?
At the moment when I connect the HD to my computer via USB the device is identified as an extern HDD.
Thanks for your help!

Erm i think you'd need to have active-sync connection to be able to do anything like that. Otherwise you'll just have to wait for new lcd and repair it.
EDIT: Have you not got them stored on SIM card to use in other phone?

Unfortunately not.
All contacts are in the device memory.
How do the professionals in the repaircenter backup my data before they repair/open the device?
They don't.
Download http://www.mymobiler.com/ and see if you can control your device from your pc.

Yeah i was thinkin along them lines, but then you'd need bluetooth to be on and visible, maybe he hasn't as its a battery waste to leave it on.
Mmm you don't need to put in your startup password for Activesync to work.
So maybe the problem is with his usb connection if all he can see is the phone as a hdd.

Problem is that i selected to use the device as hdd last time i connected with usb.
When i start the handy i hear the boot-sound, but i cant see anything.
So i need a option to skip the system password or start the handy via USB like a Bootloader or something else and copy all files from device to my pc.
Did you try http://www.mymobiler.com/ anyway ?

I installed My Mobiler on my Computer and startet it.
Connected my HD to my Computer and the Computer detected the HD as extern HDD.
My Mobile on my Computer didnt recognize my HD.
MyMobile>Connect: Your Mobile may not be connected or ActiveSync connection is busy now. If the problem persists, please restart 'MyMobiler'
MyMobile>Configure Mobile>Install: PLease wait...Reinstalling MyMobiler on your mobile...... Unable to install....
Seems i can not skip my password.
I would delete and reinstall activesync and try again.

(don't give up)
i have windows 7 and no active sync running.
same problem unter windows vista.
So you are using Mobile device centre ?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-synch.mspx
Problem is i selected "use hd as extern hdd" and not activesync last time i connected via USB.
So on the one hand when i connect hd to computer its everytime detected as hdd because i cant use the touchscreen to selected the other option('activesync')
one the other hand i have to unlock via password the activesync connection if i could build up it.

yes indeed
Well I use XP and activesync.
Question - Has your phone worked previously syncing with Windows Mobile Device Centre ok ?
yes latest sync is from june 2009
Well I hope someone with your operating system reads this and can help more.
All I know is with Windows 7 and Vista you have to ensure your firewall settings allow the connection and some AV programmes can interfere - hope this helps.

just an advice for everybody.
make a backup every once in a while.
i for example i use Microsoft MyPhone and even if my HD or my sim card gets torched or kidnapped i will still be able to acces my contacts, photos, documents, sms etc. on the myphone webpage.
realy cool right?
so if you did use MyPhone then you can see your contacts.
good luck.
I think I've just thought of a solution for you...
Windows Mobile uses the "2577" directory, if it exists, in the root of your SD card to autorun installation scripts from. When I disconnect my HD from my PC in USB storage mode, the 2577 directory is read and installation files are executed.
It may be possible to run a mortscript or a cab file from there that will either back up your PIM data, or change the USB function back to Activesync - probably the latter is easier as I'm guessing it would just be a reg key that needs changing.

Can't transfer some mp3s from HD2 to PC

Hi!
Just got my TMOUS HD2. I copied some mp3s that i bought at emusic.com to the storage card and listened to them. Worked without problems. But I cannot transfer back some of them using Windows Mobile! One folder seems to be empty, in the other the mp2s are still displayed, but nothing happens when I attempt to copy them.
On the phone, the mp3s are present, I still can listen to them, but I can't move or copy them to another place with Total Commander.
What happened here? Is this a known problem? Couldn't find any help here or with google...
Thanks,
Hannes
Hi, How are you copying the files? Using remote file explorer? And whats the language of your phone?
- Herojit
Hi!
My Phone language is english (unfortunately for me, scnr). I start Windows Mobile and then browse the storage card from there. Is that the remote file explorer? (Sorry, my Win7 is in German)
Hannes
Hi, Are you trying to copy from Storage card to device storage and vice versa?
- Herojit
Yes, I tried to copy from storage card to device. With File Explorer, it does just nothing, with Total Commander, it says "Cannot acces file". When I try to transfer the files to the PC, it does nothing.
Also, i noticed that there is a file named ~hTC******.vin in all the folders that I cannot access. Maybe there is connection?
Hi, I think the file is Drm protected? Any chance for that? Can you check if there is a lock icon displayed on top of the file icon.
- Herojit
Hi Herojit!
No, the files isn't DRM protected (it was from emusic.com, they are all DRM free). It has the ordinary windows media icon.
Yours,
Hannes
Hi Hannes, now I don't see any problem, can you restart the device and copy again, I feel the file is still access by one of the player.
- Herojit
Hi Herojit!
Did that, no change at all. Another weird thing: my computer doesn't display any mp3s at all in the one folder that is having troubles, while I still can play them on the HD2. Another directory shows all the files, but cannot transfer them anywhere. This sucks!
Nobody ever experienced that? :-(
Hannes
From what I understand you're trying to copy those files while connected in "activesync mode".
If that's the case, you want to enable the "disk unit" mode.
If that is NOT the case, then Im clueless
Hi!
I had no transfer mode set up, just ignored that screen all the time. Anyhow, I figured out a practical solution: Windows Media Player was able to fetch all the MP3 from the Phone, even the ones that Explorer couldn't display. So I am quite happy now, but I'd still like to know what is going on with my phone...
