Hi i'm having a problem connecting to UMTS network when creating a new connection...
I have obtained setting from my service provider but i'm still unable to connect to 3G. When i get to "select a modem" i don't have access to cellular (UMTS) network. I only have Cellular (GPRS) ! Is there another setting i should change to access 3G network. My phone find my 3G service provider network on the 2100 band and connects to it... But still no Cellular UMTS in my connection modem?
Anyone knows whow to solve this issue?

Having read about the battery differences between GPRS and UMTS on the exec with push email enabled I'm just wondering - is it possible to prevent the Exec connecting over UMTS and remain on a GPRS conn?
My SIM is 3G enabled as I use it in a data card occasionally, so I don't want to have 3G data disabled... Does anyone know?
You can set it to 2G only in the Band tab within Phone settings.

But is this possible to do programmatically with RIL or TAPI or another API

I seem to be right at the edge of UMTS coverage where I live. When connected to a UMTS network I get one or no lines showing signal strength.
As a consequence, the connection gets broken off frequently and then reconnected to GPRS (which is strong). Then transferred back to UMTS and so on.
Especially the transfer from weak to no UMTS and then switching to GPRS is a pain. lost connection, having to dial in again, sometimes even getting an errormessage.
Is there a way to configure my device to not use UMTS?

To do this you need to go to start/settings/phone
click on the 'Band' tab at the bottom and then use the 'select your network type' drop menu to chose 'GSM'. This will disable the UMTS band and save you ALOT of battery as well.

I've done everything ok but can't connect to 3g network.
I'm in Brazil and use TIM.
When I've tried connection setup, It find my country and connection (TIM CONNECT FAST). But nothing connected (even with my HDSPA or 3G sign aparently working).
I've got the 80072EFD error, when tried to connect with outlook, and "Error. Cannot find server or DNS error", when tried IE.
So, went to Settings > Cellular:
Data connection: ON
3G connection: ON
and ad a apn: tim.br, tim, tim.
Nothing hapened.
Somebody can help me?

I'm using now for the first time an android phone (cm7 on optimums 2x).
I was used (coming from NOKIA) to know if i was on a GSM or UMTS network + if the data protocol available was GPRS or EDGE on GSM and 3g or hsdpa (3.5g) on UMTS.
I had to disable mobile data right away on the android phone because i pay for that, but now I don't see any icon. Isn't there a way to have to same behavior of nokia DISABLING access with mobile network or at least on demand if I ever wanted to use it in some occasions?
No E, G, 4g icon means no data. Only way to use it would be to pay for it or use wifi
To turn network data on go to settings>wireless & networks> mobile networks
