Ring volume (solved), ip address (solved) and v.keyboard auto pop-up questions. - Wing, P4350 General

hi!
Just got my Herald and I'm soooo happy with it...
(Comming from an HP hw6515d, herald is working like a charm!!)
I got two weird questions...
Both are wm5 questions and not just herald but in case someone knows
I'm using an mp3 ringtone. It always rings as loud as it can ignoring the volume level I have set the device to.
second part is, I wanna connect to a wifi without a DHCP address...
any ideas how to set an ip address to it? :>
ps. anyone hacked open the herald to see if there is a way to atach an external wifi antenna to it?
thnx in advance for any help! ^_^

Since everyone was so kind not to reply "Search" or "RTFM" I will reply to the 2nd question which was kinda stupid...
The right volume bar isn't the "in call" volume I thought but the ringing volume!! ^_^
hihi, no comments plz!
As for the ip address
Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi -> Network Adapters
Choose SDIO WLAN ... for the Herald and click edit!
So... a new more valid quetion now...
When I click on an input line with the pen, the virtual keyboard pops up.
Is there any way to stop this from happening automatically?
(Using Resco if it makes any difference.)
Thanx again!

Just to explain why nobody answered: It´s so amazing to find something out by your own. Just feel good after it.
No indeed. I have a wizard - but it is most similar.
The keyboard won´t pop up if you use the hardware keyboard by default: that means - just use ONLY hardware keyboard and the softkeyboard will "learn" not to pop up.
There had been a software "nokeyboard" but I had severel problems with it. Just try to teach the keyvoard not to pop up.
It really worked for my wizard.

Vibrate on ring and 1 handed texting

I am after a utility, preferably free, that will enable the XDA2 to vibrate when it rings.
At the moment the only way I can get it to vibrate is by selecting it from the volume menu, but this then mutes the ringer.
Also I am after a utility similar to finger clix that will allow you to write a text message one handed.
Any ideas would be welcome.
Cheers

No need for a utility - just go to Start -> Settings -> Phone, and in the first drop-down list select "vibrate and ring".

This is more difficult. There is no T9 style text input program, probably because nobody has the necessary database. The only thing that might help you is the Full Screen Keyboard by Spb (see http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com ).

Concerning your vibrate whilst ringing problem, I know a GREAT free app that lives right here on this forum, if you haven’t come across it yet its called PocketZenPhone, the thread can be found here, its very long, right now it's at 45 pages   so I recommend you start reading from about 20 odd pages back to get the gist of where the app is heading in the future.
This program allows you to set up 5 different profiles for example vibrate, quiet, normal, loud and off. It has the ability to control both BT and Radio.
Anyway now I’m just rambling, just go check the program out.
You can download the latest version from here.
Thanks for your responses guys,
I can't believe I missed that phone setting, what an idiot.
I'll have a butchers at pocketzenpone to, thanks.

Bluetooth System-Tray Icon Issue

...long time lurker; first time poster...
did a search on this once and if it's here, sorry i missed it:
what is the reg-locale for ensuring the Bluetooth System-Tray Icon is enabled to launch when bt is active. since performing the following reg-edits, it no longer appears.
Increasing font cache and screen performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE"
Change "limit" from "8192" (default) to "16384"
Increase general performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\"
Change "CacheSize" value from "0" to "4096".
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096)"
Change "EnableCache" value to "1"
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\"
Change "ReplStoreCacheSize" value to "4096"
Enable Cleartype in landscape mode:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings]
Change "OffOnRotation" to “0”
also... i did this one and then reversed it since i learned (after the fact) that cingular 8125 is already b/g:
Enable 802.11g:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
Assign a value of 1 to dot11SupportedRateMask
Assign a value of 8 to dot11SupportedRateMaskG
thanks to anyone making time to reply!
can someone confirm that their actually is a bt icon that resides in the system tray (top bar) when bt is enabled???
maybe it was a fluke that i actually saw it there for a brief period today?
maybe i'm seeing things?
I have not seen that icon in WM5. But I would like to have it there.
Oh its there alright. In fact, in the online help somewhere on my 8125 it actually lists the icons and their descriptions. One of them is the BT icon.
Its beyond my why there isn't an application that can indicate with a headset icon to notify you if your phone is paired to a BT earpiece. Someone had posted once PhoneAlarm did it, but alas. It does no such thing.
If anyone else knows of a program that will tell you if you're currently connected to a BT device, please speak now!
Ok, found out where the icon is listed. Go to the main WM5 online help on the device and go to Personalizing your device>Over of the Today screen>What do these status icons indicate?
Towards the bottom you'll see the icon... IT EXISTS IT EXISTS!... sigh
it does because today... it appeared for a moment. it played peek-a-boo while device was bugging-out. glad to know i wasn't seeing things. i wonder if having the clock reside in the sys-tray has anything to do with it???
i have found this application http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1319 to at least show when the BT is on. It also tries to connect to a headset when there is an incoming/outgoing call. Not having a headset myself, I have not been able to test this function, but bt does turn on on a ring and turn off when I end the call.
i got this cab from somewhere here in the forum which shows the bt icon on the system tray, to allow you switch on/off bluetooth, i beleive it was designed for the universal but it works fine with my kjam (wizard).

Thanks! This .cab works great.
Now I only need the same type of icon for wifi. Anyone got such .cab file???
Works Great on KJAM JASJAR and EVEN A T O M !
Thanks.
I tried it on my k-jam but unfortunatelly... nada
I downloaded the cab file to my pc through the link, then copied the file to my devise and run the installation therein...
Am i missing something?
Weird
I installed this, and nothing happened, so I deleted the program, using "remove program" from Settings/System, and it started working. Go figure.

Turn on GPRS from Menu Bar, Now You Can

After being ticked off about not being able to turn on GPRS like we could on WM2003, you know tap on the "G" and select turn on GPRS or something like that. I have since been on a restless pursuit to find a simple and small program to take care of this...Well my search has ended, here is that small (4.5kb) program. Just copy to programs and create a shortcut to the today screen or if using wisebar even better..Once their just tap (make sure phone is on). It will connect to GPRS and also tell you your IP Address....Enjoy
"VJVolubilis -gprson" might provide an alternative with some other functionality thrown in as well.

Any feedback...working well for everyone?????
Perfect!!!!!
Just what I needed! And easy to get working!
Thanks man!
Frode
I assigned the voice recorder hardware button as GPRS.exe by PQz2 (http://www.nicque.com/PQz/).
It's great convinience!
Thank you!
When you say "Programs", which folder do you mean? Can you please specify the path. There are 2 "Programs" folder.
If you want it to show up with all your regular programs then place it in
windows/start menu/programs. Otherwise you can put it anywhere if you
are using Wisebar or a program like Ilauncher.
If I turn GPRS ON using this program, how do I turn it OFF?
you can turn it off via comm manager or just tap the connected icon in the menu bar and then tap disconnect. nothing changes you just turn off like always....
@cktlcmd
you also can switch off the gprs connection by pressing the red telephon key for about 3 seconds.
Wolfgang
VJVolublis -grpsoff or -gprstoggle can also do that. Although pressing red is faster

Perfect, thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for, for use with PocketPuTTY. I especially like the fact that it tells you your new IP.
How do you put a shortcut on the Today Screen?

Disable vibration alert when phone call is being connected

Disable Vibration
Same problem here... looking forward for a solution
I got this thread in this site :
But this doesnt work for me ..
.............................................................
You need to go into Start - Settings - Personal - Sounds and Notifications - Notifications.
Select the "Connection Established" event from the dropdown list and untick the "Vibrate" option.
Have to admit, I didn't realise Vibrate was an option under connect until I just took a look, but I can only assume you managed to set this to on at some point.
The option is in the registry under:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf 46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}]
Options under this key can be set to change the notification settings, but I am not sure of the various numbers. It is much easier to set through the method above. Also, I would not guarantee the last part of the registry location as this may be a generated location. The "(Default)" entry in this key on my device is set to "Connection Established" however, which is a dead giveaway.
Hope this helps,
Graham.

Solved. It's caused by the installed 3rd party call manager.

A program named "Callerloc", but it's in Chinese!
I'd like to enable this in my Pharos, but not the registry editinig, nor the 3rd party device installing solved this problem. Plz somebody help.
The vibrate on connect feature exist in the S2U2 third party programs....

[Q] PDAVIET V32 Vibrates all the time??

is there any registry entry that would fix this Jade with V32 PDAVIET rom from vibrating each time a call is placed or answered, I have looked in the settings and haven't seen any entries with that setting in particular.
I would have asked this in the developer forum but with the heavy handed mod in there didn't dare to.
Thanks,
Rick
On my standard Orange UK rom I can turn it off.
In to Start---Settings---Phone---Bottom task bar scroll right to advanced and open. Untick Bottom entry Vibrate device when connection established.
Proper Job

I too as well in the other Roms, its just this particular version thats doing it,,, I figured someone in here with intimate knowledge of the registry in WM6.5 would know where to look.
Cheers,
Rick
