why wont it let me install on minisd? - P3600 General

I am trying to install pocket radiologist on my trinity. This program is quite a memory hungry program so am trying to install it onto my 2GB storage card which also has a heap of music on it (but still 500MB free).
When i go to install it it gives me the option to save it onto the storage card but when i select it it installs it into the storage memory on the trinity and not the storage card!
I cant remember if i used some kind of tweak to do this but would love to save the program to my storage card so i can also do it for GPS when i get it......
What am i doing wrong? Is there a setting somewhere which will enable this? i cant seem to find it anywhere.
thanks
Scott

anyone? help please?

someone must have some idea.....

The problem is the installer, it must be hard-coded to use the internal memory instead of the external card, it shouldn't offer the option to install on the card.
You can edit the cab file to remove the hard-coded paths using a trial of WinCE Cab Manager, but if they are hard-coded.. there could be a reason for that, anyways, you can try to do that.

have you tried installing the application on the miniSD card from a card reader, rather than Trinity?

Often if a program installs itself to the internal memory, you can safely find the directory on your phone and move it to the miniSD and just make a new shortcut to your start menu. An example is TomTom, you can copy the directory "Navigator" from the phone Program Files directory to the /Program Files directory on the miniSD and TomTom works perfectly...at least on my device.

Program Storage

I have always used the main storage for loading programs/applications, but recently I have been adding more applications as I become more affluent with using my PPC Phone.
I did load the Scary Bear Check Notifications in the Extended ROM, but the device won't let me load any other programs there, so I suppose I'm out of room.
I have read that I can store programs on the storage card. I have tried this a while ago and my device either would not let me or when the program was loaded there I could not run it.
How do you successfully install programs on the SD storage card? Is there a limit to application type or other factors that will only allow some programs to work there? Can I copy and paste programs to my storage card that are already installed?
Any tips on storage card application use would be appreciated.
I have dove deeper into this issue, and I see where I was having some difficulty. I'm now able to install programs to the storage card. Some programs, however, still do not want to be installed there. I have not tried moving programs, but felt it was safer to delete on the main memory and then install on the card.
Do products like Pocket Mechanic provide better or mor complete use of storage cards?

Installing TomTom 6 on TyTN

I'm trying to install TomTom6 on my Vario II but the TomTom Home software does not see any free space on the device or storage - and so won't let me install the software to it. I have 600mb or so free on the card and 30+mb on the device.
Any ideas?
Any helpful suggestions as tow which files need to be moved to where on the device to by-pass their installation process?
TIA
Soft boot it, I have had trouble with a 1GB sandisk flash not properly seeing the file system.
dont forget to backup your important data prior to reset.

Hi!
I use tomtom 6 and for as I know you need 2gb of free space for tomtom 6..so..maybe thats why its says, you dont have enough free space..
but I use the map western-europe
Are you installing from cd or from an sd card version. I can't comment on the cd but to install from sd card use a card reader to copy all the files onto the top layer of a micro sd using file explorer on the pc and then use the file explorer on the tytn to find the tomtom exe and start it. this triggers the full install routine on the ppc. maybe you can do the same from cd. I have a 1gb micro sd and have no issues with capacity. the tomtom files use up about 300mb . any help?

Cashing cab files to storage card

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to cash cab files to you storage card instead of you local storage.
Because every so often I’ll install a large cab file from my storage card to my storage card and I’ll be presented with a messages that say I need to clear up some storage on my phone first.
Is there a way around this?
Thank You

One more ?
What do you mean by "cash"?
Is it the same as "copy"?
Ok. Let’s try this. Apologies if I was confusing.
I have a CAB file located on my storage card. When I execute the cab to install the application, I’m presented with a messages saying I have insufficient storage available. Yet, my destination patch for that application is my storage card. (I’ve selected the destination path when I was prompted when executing the CAB file).
The only reason I can think of it that when you try to install an application from a cab file that’s already on your storage card the PDA try’s to load it first to the onboard memory before writing it away to the storage card. Is this true? If so, how do I change the location of where the temporary file should be cashed?
The same thing happens when someone Bluetooth’s me a large file, and though I select the location for the receiving file to my storage card, it stil pops up with a dialog saying I have insufficient memory available.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

OK, it sounds to me like your device is not reading your storage card properly. Remove, then re-insert the storage card. Hope this was the problem.
Hmmm. I’ve try that. No luck. It happenes only when I’m installing applications that’s larger than the remaining onboard storage. This made me think of my post above.
Has anyone lese encountered this? I mean, can you guys install applications larger than the available onboard storage? Even though the location is your storage card?

Yes as a matter of fact it has happened to me. For some reason when you install an app to the storage card, memory comes out of the main, leaving you with maybe 0.5MB which is not enough to complete the download. If I remember correctly, I've installed some apps to the SD card, memory is used from main, but stopped at a certain level, then converted to using SD memory, therefore being able to have enough memory to do the download, and the memory that was taken from main before conversion, was put back in the main memory. This is just a guess, maybe the app you're installing won't convert for you. Certain types will use main memory only regardless of being instructed to install on the SD card.

FYI
If you tap on the start menu/settings/system tab/memory, you can actually see what and how much memory is being used during a large file download.

Storage Card 2 problem

Having an issue with my Wing, hoping someone can help. I had my Wing connected to my PC today, iFonz was the only app running. I wanted to copy some movies to my Wing and I know that copying directly to the microSD is infinitely faster than going through Activesync, so I popped out my card, put it in my reader and copied the movies. When it was done I put the card back in my phone.
So I'm at work today and want to send a text to my brother, hit the SMS button on iFonz, and it crashed. No big deal I thought, I'll just relaunch it, crashes happen. So I relaunch iFonz... nothing... so I try to launch Resco File Explorer... nothing... interesting. So I fire up the normal WM file explorer, it seems my SD card is now called Storage Card2. Storage Card is still shown, but doesn't load anything when selected. So now whenever a lnk is looking for a program on my SD card it doesn't find it.
Any one know a way to fix this? I tried resetting w/ the card in and w/o the card in, same issue. 8*(
I seem to have fixed it. I fired up Resco off the SD card, deleted the Storage Card directory on the Wing, then soft reset. The Wing recognized the SD card as Storage Card again and all is good. 8*)
I've run into this a few times as well. It only happens to me if i left an app running in the background or with certain today modules. I've always had to use the same solution as you did.
I think the cause would be if there is a registry tweak that redirects database directory to the Storage Card and you removed it and did a soft reset, it would actually create a directory automatically even though your SD is not there! And what you would do is pop the SD in again and that would create the Storage Card2 directory.
Fix i think would be, delete the Storage Card directory using Resco Explorer, turn off the phone, insert your SD then turn the phone again.
The only registry tweaks I've done are to change the font colors for the today screen, so that wasn't it (of course an app might have done something).
I don't know the offending application, but something must have wanted to write to the /storage card/ folder on the phone. When the card itself wasn't there it simply created the directory it needed to write the data to. Like I said tho', the simple solution was just to delete the newly created /storage card/ directory, make sure the card is in, soft reset.
How to fix it easily
Okay, just go to file explorer on your phone. You will see storage card2 with the black icon on it and another folder that says storage card. Delete "storage card," and take out your storage card. Then put it back in, and it will just say "Storage Card."

Installing TomTom to mini SD card

Hello community,
Have anyone experienced problems installing the TomTom Navigator 6 to the mini SD card?
The option to install the application to internal memory or storage card is shown when installing via usb but then fails to install on the storage card.
There are already installed applications on the mini SD card and additional free space.
The application installs on the internal memory without problems but no free space (this was confirmed by removing applications from the internal memory).
Update: I've installed the application on the internal memory and move the folder and its contents manually to the storage card. I launch the app directly from the card and it worked. However, I haven’t yet tested it for a signal or synchronization with TomTom home, but the app starts. Updated the program shortcut link to point to the new directory and deleted the old (internal memory).
I had a look at the setup xml before stored in the .cab file and found that it explicitly installs to the internal memory. There weren't any use of variables for choice for the installation directory.
Did the developers intentionally leave that out? Or was it an oversight?
What version of TomTom are you talking about? My version (TomTom 6) installs fine onto the memory card. I am installing it from a cab file on the memory card.
