windows mobile 5 outlook issue on a mda - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have my wife's t mobile mda set up to pull mail from gmail's pop server. Whenever she gets a message, and opens it, it get erased. What is going on? Under the messaging trunk I have it listed as pop.gmail.com, and not under outlook. Is that why it is doing this?
one thing you should know......
I do not have a data plan for this phone. For some reason I am still connected through Edge, and I can use internet explorer to browse the internet. I called T mobile and they say that it is impossible for that to happen and they will not help support anything to do with outlook. I am not sure what is going on. I had to argue with the tmoble tech for a while for him to believe me that I was not connected through a wirless router. (I am not using the email trigger option either) I know one thing though, I am not upgrading the firmware. There seems to be a glitch.
Thanks in advance for any information you can give me. Every little bit of experience helps. I just want these emails to stay in the phone for her to reference later.

yeah you are not the only one getting this internet, majority of T mobile customers are getting this and using it for everything. no need to complain or ask tmobile about it...but not back to your e-mail problem, i have the same problem as i use Gmail on my device through this free internet(which has nothing to do with the problem bytheway)...this is what i do so it wont erase the e-mail, make a new folder and every time you open a message, move it into the other folder, and the e-mail will remain until you delete it.

emoze.com offering free push email...any tried this yet?

www.emoze.com has just come up with a push email feature for mobiles and pdas.
i just wanted to know if anyone has tried out the service and how is it?
i don't have an outlook exchange server so i can't really set up direct push on my 8125.
I just checked and Emoze does not support the Qtek 9100 yet
try selecting the Tmo MDA.. same thing.. i'm downloading the program now to see if it works..
ok, stay away from it for now, it is in beta, but here's what happened to me..
1. it replicated my contacts about 40 times.. i had to go thru and delete duplicates... ugh..
2. Program on the PC desktop crashes randomly, it crashed 4 times in a 30 minute period..
3. kinda flaky performance.. it works as in the push email function, it notifies you, but then it took 3-4 trys on the PPC to get out of the notification/program and see the actual email in outlook..
give it time and if they perfect it a little, this will be very cool to have..

Cool, thanks for the input. Hopefully they'll fix the bugs soon so we can use it.
replicated my contacts also, it states that you cannot have activesync running while this program is running, which is kinda ridiculous...another thing is, it runs OFF of your computer, uses your OUTLOOK, nothing on their end, its just a piece of software...in other words, if your computer is off, no email....useless if you ask me
Ya know, it's a shame the T-Mobile's SMS-based notification feature isn't a bit better tuned. It really works well - just takes to long to notify your phone of a new event.
For anyone who hasn't tried it. When you go to the T-Mobile website, you can put in the info for one or more of your non-T-Mobile email services. You can use POP3 or IMAP4 servers along with your SMTP server, and you specify your email login and password.
After that, you can click on the feature in your MDA that retrieves specs for your email account from T-Mobile's servers, and pocket Outlook will set up an appropriate additional account for you in the MDA. With this all set up, you can, in addition to your normal way of checking your email, check your email account via the T-Mobile website or via your MDA simply by doing a Send/Receive on the MDA in the Messaging app.
The neat part that T-Mobile hasn't quite implemented 100% is that you can have their server monitor your email account for new incoming messages, and in turn send a "silent SMS" to your MDA to let it know when new email has arrived. Then your MDA automatically kicks off a Send/Receive, fetches whatever email is waiting on the server and notifies you.
This works quite well. The ONLY problem is that that it may take way too long for you to be notified that something new is on the server. This could be due to one (or both) of two possibilities:
1) T-Mobile's back-end servers may not be monitoring and checking your email server frequently enough. If it checks for new email every minute, that's great - but if it waits 30 minutes between checks, that's about the best you can hope for when waiting for your MDA to be notified about new incoming mail.
2) Even if T-Mobile's back-end servers "know" that your email provider's servers have new mail for you once a minute, that only helps if the "daemon" (or whatever process they use) sends the "silent SMS" to you immediately. If the "silent SMS" is queued up, and the process to send them out is delayed, or possibly scheduled to happen once every 30 minutes, we have yet another way in which it takes too long for your phone to be notified that new email has arrived.
Whichever delay is causing this, it would be fantastic if T-Mobile could fix it. If they did, this would, functionally, serve the purpose of push email for many of us -- especially for those of us who have unlimited messaging as part of our plan with T-Mobile.
despite the bugs, it worked great, and i'm gonna keep an eye on their progress..
This is basically the program i've been looking for. Something that I can load on my own PC (since it's on 24/7) and have it sync my inboxes on my 8125.. it was nearly instantaneous when it worked on my system..
a note to people that want to try this though...
1. BACKUP YOUR CONTACTS!!!!
2. Make sure ActiveSync is set to not sync anything, and turned off.
3. Then run the program..
I wish it was more stable, and i'd use it all the time, but until then, im sticking with POP updating every 2 minutes..
I can't get it to work on my PC in my office. My company uses a proxy server and the desktop app can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?
not really sure.. but keep an eye on this thread from their forums, the emoze team might respond with an answer..

I think they started push service in their "live.web2mail" bbeta but I could be mistaken as I have not tried it. Even if it free it wont be for long as MS has pretty expensive licensing fees per user to use exchange server. I think they have 6 months where they can claim 0 users. The emoze you need your home pc on all the time. For me it would be ok cuz i always keep my pc turned on but for a lot of people i dont think they do that.
Any news on this? Is it working yet? I keep my computer on all the time and was looking at running Exchange Server from it to get Push Email, but maybe I'm better off waiting for this?
I've been using a mail3web live account for a couple of weeks and it works very well. I just had to set up mail forawrding from my own ISP. I'm pretty sure it's not push email but it works fine through active sync on the PPC as long as I remember not to kill the application. You can set it to synch with the sever as often as you like and as I'm a bit worried about getting a large bill and I'm not too wooried about getting everything instantaniously I've set mine to synch with the server every two hours. If I want to check more frequently I just hit send/receive.
Dave
Whoops - no I haven't discovered a new one! The above should read mail2web live account!

There's no tweak. mail2web just upgraded to Exchange SP2, so if you've got a ROM in your wizard that supports push (I'm using the 2.17 custom on my TMO MDA), sign up for a free mail2web account, forward your email there from other accounts, and follow the diretions to set it up on your Wizard, and you will get true push email now.
The only problem I have is that I forward my gmail to my mail2web, and once or twice/day I notice I'm not getting e-mail, sign in to my gmail account and under the forward it says gmail is having trouble forwarding to that account. I push try again, and it starts sending my email again for maybe a day. I think mail2web is either having a problem receiving so much mail (there's been a big buzz about it on xda and howard last few weeks), or else it might be a problem with their spam filters...
MC
thanx for ur reply...that's exactly what i did and got a gmail account too and everything's ok here...all my mails are directed to my mail2web account ( actually live.mail2web.com account)
But can not succeed in push to mail...my rom is the "test only" one I think it's the one before the official 2.17....Any chance to get it work though?
Many thanx...

Exchange

I've sort of set up my Hero to my exchange server. I only seem to be able to sync my inbox, no other folders or sub folders. Anybody any ideas ?
Also, I don't seem to get a data connection via wifi. exchange fails, no internet when wifi but fine on H etc ?
Steve
TD2 - on the bench
Hero - hmmmm
If you go into the mail app and then press menu-->more-->settings and change "download past mail" to all. If you then go into a folder with emails and press menu-->refresh it will download the email in that folder.
PS. This is my second hero, on the first all the emails were just there in all the folders but no idea what I did differently. It's possible that the only reason I'm having to press refresh is because the phone hasn't had a chance to download everything already.
Hi H
Tried that, still only does inbox. None of the additional folders or subfolders. Also only syncs via data, won't sync via wifi ? ?
Looks like the TD2's coming back out

Exactly the position I was in and now the Kaiser is back out
Also is it my phone or does it make you do everything on data ? No wonder everyone wants BIG data bundles. The calender doesn't seems as good either. Looks like the TD2 may come back out and O get the Android back.
Steve,
that is exactly how I thought. Everything seemed to need net access. I achieve exactly the same things I need with a current zero data bundle and winmob, yep zero! I have a max per day capped usage.
I sync locally via usb, if net access is needed, the it is controllable, ie, you choose when to log on. On the Hero, it all seems far too integrated and virtually everything you do needs it. So it's either perm wifi or a large data bundle. O got my Hero back.
That section gets a serious thumbs down from me.
Mine syncs with me doing a refresh in the individual folders....
I can't believe there is so little integration with exchange. It only see's the inbox despite lots of refreshes. Its a really disappointing feature.
Gonna give it a day or so then it looks like it's going back - shame.

Push Mail (GRPS/UMTS)/ WM 6.1 / Exchange Problem

Hey guys,
I've searched the web and this forum but wasn't able to find an answer to my question.
I own a jade since 10 month and since 2 weeks I have a data flaterate due to my job. Since then I'm using push mail to sync my phone with our Exchange Server (push elemets if they arrive).
However, it's not working well and I'm not sure if it's a wm6.1 or jade problem.
- Sometimes my phone does not receive Emails, even if push mail is actived. I think sometimes it tells me that it is connected to the server and does not deliver emails anyway.
- The connection to the server inactive for a very long time, i. e., sometimes for hours! I only receive new mails after a reboot. This really sucks 'cause I need some mails quite quick and I don't want to sync manually all the time.
- My phone crashs, i. e., I see the green light flashing but the display is staying black or it is frozen.
- When turning on WiFi additionally, it's even worse. My jade turned off for 3x times last week at one day.
Has anyone the same problems? Is there anything I can do about it? Updates for wm 6.1, does wm 6.5 solve the problem? Or is it the jade hw?
Btw, at my company blackberry is not supported, so I need a solution working with exchange. so this is not an option. ...there doesn't seem to be many people outside using the jade like I do.
Cheers,
Ratsche

This is a problem because most people use blackberry in your situation.
I also have no experiences with push-mail and so I can not help you, sorry.
One solution might be to use a web-based email client that allows your email to be viewed via the web. Some corporate and government servers allow users to get their email that way. Basically, you would login to the appropriate server and see your email just like you would at Yahoo, Google or Hotmail. It becomes a question of whether your IT department wants to support a web service like this.
BTW, I know that with Yahoo Mail, it can be "forced" to a push/pull type service. You have to google how it's done and set up some things on your computer and Yahoo.
Another possibility may be to forward your business mails automatically to such an web-based service.
I was thinking about forwarding email as well. But I like to receive mails automatically and to get a notification.
But I'm still ****ed up about the push-mail solution. Can't believe that it is not working properly. I mean I can live with it, but is sucks...
Thanks for your answers anyway!
I thinks it's very much dependant on the Exchange Server (at source) and connection band status as opposed to Jade's capability. My experience is the same. I do not rely much on direct push, but more on ActiveSync by scheduling (Menu - Schedule) more frequent, e.g. every 20 - 30 minutes or so.
it is working on mine....
Hi!
My Jade running on 6.1 is synching fine with the companies exchange. No problems at all.
When the synchronissation is not working, is the internet connection ok? (can you open any webpage?)
Regards and good luck,
Stefan
I have no idea about the Exchange configuration, have to ask our IT guys about it. I'm usting using the outlook-web-access adress to connect with my jade.
I just don't understand why the connection is sometimes interrupted for hours and sometimes only for a few minutes.
Has anyone experince with wm6.5? Is it better for push-mail?
I have a similar problem. I have this phone too due my job, htc brand its more like a work-phone. I can recieve hotmail and outlook emails without problems. but can't refresh and sync my contacts!!! It sucks! Because I constantly get new contacts, but exchange server doesn't work! how is it possible?

I have no problem synchronizing my emails and contacts either way, phone to server or server to phone. Logically if you can receive outlook email, synchronizing should not be a problem.
I can confirm that the Jade 3G (WM6.1 & 6.5) works a treat with exchange 2003. Besides, configuring the Jade for exchange push/pull is absolutely no different from any other phone running 6.1 & above.
From what you've said, it sounds more like you phone has a fault on it. I can't remember the last time my phone crashed and it's running a cooked 6.5 rom.
i've been wanting to get that to work with my UniSA (University of South Australia) email. But doesn't seem to work, if anyone can help me would be a great help.

You need to be sure of the UniSA server name (usually webmail.xxx.com.au). And you need to get the certificate (filename.cer) in order synchronise.

You'll have to get your IT dept to assist in setting it up. There's more to it than just configuring your actuall phone.
Similar Prob
Hi
I have a similar issue but not with Outlook\Exchange. I have setup with gmail for IMAP and pull every 5 minutes using 3g operator connection. My problem is, which I guess is where issue is similar, when my phone in sleep mode I can wait anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours for the pull process to kick in and download mail (notification alert tells me). Now, if I turn phone on within that time, bingo, sync's and pulls. So seems the process isnt working as should when in sleep mode.
Any idea's or is this the norm? Again, I been thinking about flashing to 6.5 cooked ROM just to test. I know my mate has a Palm with Windows 6.1 and he has no trouble so seems Jade build issue.
Opinions welcome!
I have exchange working well syncing contacts, mail, notes etc and it pushes as soon as I get a maiil (infact faster than my pc when i am infront of my desk) and use the JADE for my company emails. I had the stock rom and now 6.5 and both work without an issue. It sounds to me like you have some software issue or conflict in your device that is causing it to crash. I would hard reset and perhaps install a stock rom to make sure its clean. Have you got your server address as owa.something.com. If you set up exchange its not an IMAP or POP service so you should not see that option.

E-mail direct push and setup !

Hi there everyone
I have this issue setting up my Leo for the direct push.
The good news is ,I did setup the hotmail account as well the outlook for the "as it arrive " for the direct push and I found it that amazingly the hotmail arrive to my phone like in a fraction of a second "super fast" and that the outlook take a little while " I'm not complaining as long as it arrive" the only thing that it only push e-mails when I'm on the Wi-Fi connection.
However, when I try switching off the Wi-Fi no Push?!...... So what went wrong?, any ides, or anyone have better solution. Though when I do "physically" ActiveSync the outlook do receive the new e-mails. It looks like the phone doesn't sense the new e-mail.
Other thing dose anyone know how to receive push e-mails as well from Gmail and yahoo??
Thanks a lot
any help plz guys
I am interested in this too, my Gmail syncs fine. But Hotmail only works if i manually sync it when on 3G. It's greyed out in the email accounts section so i can't alter the settings.
The email setup is a bit of a black art to me on here. Maybe i should read the 310 page PDF manual.

The thing that I found a round-over solution for it by using a 3rd part application "Seven or emozeMail" to add ur e-mail account and it will do the trick for you!
However, this is not a really push serve from WM, I was looking for something without the use of the 3rd party app. Again, the hotmail as well the outlook do push when it is only on Wi-Fi!!! But not in the SIM net connection
By the way how did you set ur Gmail to act as push e-mail?
Best luck
no answer!!!

Stupid question - you do have Direct Push on under comm manager I guess?
have you tried turning it off rebooting then back on again
Have you tried performing the intial setup/sync over 3G and not Wifi?
I just set mine up using 3G and did nothing special and it syncs using 3G fine from Hotmail.
I didn't do anything special, so can't tell you how to magically sort it. Sorry.

If you want 'push' e-mail then it'll have to maintain a connection - either 3G or Wifi. It won't connect when an e-mail is received then disconnect once it's downloaded, it requires a constant connection for the device to receive the e-mail immediately

It's best not to use push e-mail unless you have an unlimited data plan! I'm not sure what you're asking: do you want to know how to set up an sync schedule? In the Windows Live options you can specify a 'sync sechdule' frequency, anywhere from every 15 minutes to four hours. You can do the same for an exchange/activesync account.

Actually, push won't increase your data usage. it may well decrease it.
Good point actually, just being connected won't cost anything without data transfer. Cheaper than repeatedly refreshing your inbox.

[Q] How to stop email receive over USB

I've seen a post on the HD2 forum for this, but no replies.
When you set pop email send/receive to "manual", then whenever you connect the phone via USB (to synchronise calendar/contacts) the phone goes and collects the mail anyway.
This is annoying because I only want to manually receive mail when travelling, and inbetween I have no need for icons reminding me I have "new" emails...
Kind of weird that the phone does this even when the "manual" option is clearly chosen. Anyone know of a way to avoid this?
No-one? Surely anyone who has their phone and PC connected, doesn't want to have their email showing up on both... or am I the only one to have this issue?
I don't use this option, so can't help with that . But isn't this a synchronisation option on the computer side. Isn't it possible to disable the synchronisation of individual options like the calendar and email etc?

You're thinking of Outlook mail and its synchronisation. My problem is with pop mail accounts which are not synchronised (the mail is downloaded but not deleted from the server, so the PC mail program is the master and the phone mail is just a way to catch up when you're not behind the PC).
So synschronisation is not related - this is purely to do with the action of the phone which does a send/receive during a USB connection, despite send/receive being set to manual. At all other times it does indeed not pick up mails automatically, but whenever I connect to USB and I have waiting mail (in one of my four accounts) it ends up on the phone also.
I know that I could disable the phone from accessing the internet over USB (which would stop pop access) but then I lose other functionality such as the automatic GPS satellite position update (which has a specific option to update itself when connected by USB).
HTC support have now told me that this is not a 'feature' you can change, although it took several attempts to get them to actually answer the question rather than feed me standard and unrelated responses, so I'm not sure that this is definitive.
Ok thnx for your feedback! Its a pitty that this is not a feature, but maybe somebody kan make an app for that ?
I just ditch the whole email thing. I use the browser to check email instead. Simple. Fast. Does not clutter the phone. Does not overburden the phone.

Also rather expensive when you are roaming internationally, and dependent on there being a (decent) webmail interface...
Yeah. You can't keep the emails in the phone. But that's the whole point. Having hundreds of email in the phone can only cause problems.
But if you access internet thru pc usb connection, or thru wifi, then the roaming problem won't apply.
Can't win them all.
