Working speed of Ameo or U1000 - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

I couldn't find anywhere in any text or review mentioning how fast is Ameo? I hope it is not too slow? Thanks.

Intel PXA270 624Mhz Processor with 128Mb RAM.
Mine runs nice and fast.

Wow, hmm... is it the Chinese Rom which slowed my U1000? I really didn't feel the speed improvement.
For Video:
Has anyone tested the tcpmp Matrix 640x480 XQ trailer? My Unverisal can play the movie little bit (only 1 or 2 scene will drop the frame) better than the Athena (Little bit jerky from time to time).
For Wifi download:
Same as Universal
What's your experience for the video playback when compare to the Universal and any application which you think will run faster on Athena? I may turn to English Rom if it turns out performs better (and if the rom is avaliable).
Thanks
Tommy

Overclocking the wizard?

Hello,
Since more and more ppl get their wizard i was wondering..
Has anyone tried overclocking it already?
Im not really sure if the available programs support this omap processor, but still curious
So anyone tried that on here?
well, pocket hack master is a no-go for this
I asked this very question over at the antontomov.com support forums... got no reply... guess it is either not ready yet or not on the horizon at the moment... shame that guy does not reply to his own support forum.... bla
How do you guys find the speed generally? Can it play films etc ok in BetaPlayer?

Yes, you can
Just don't go crazy and use proper resolution - 320x240 and will work like a charm
Like a charm...
I find it very limit and I could use a bit of overclocking.
Still no news of a software capable of that?
OMAP 850 processor will become popular, I think it is also used in SPV C600.
It could be a good move to start understanding the overclocking abilities of this processor if it has any?
Generally the Wizard feels as quick as the Magician.
Betaplayer doesn't play back quite as well (high bitrate bigger than the screen) but I think that this is because the Wizard doesn't have the XScale options.
Yeah, I think the XScale has some kind of extensions that would help media playback. Not positive, but I think I read it somewhere.
It definitely does. There is an extra menu option in BetaPlayer for the Magician that can be checked to use the Xscale.
I checked all the settings back to back to see if the slightly better performance was down to different settings and that's when I found it.
Video is important to me but for the very slight difference in larger than screen size videos, I'd much rather have the better battery life, keyboard, persistant storage and one handed operation of WM5.

Questions from a potential wizard owner

I really like the wizard (cingular 8125) and am planning to get it but I have too questions about the product.
Is the wizard capable of smooth vidoe playback? I don't mind re-encoding to 320X240 using whichever format works the best. Needed for my long international flights. I don't want to buy an iPod video as that would be an extra item that I have to carry around halfway across the world.
Can windows mobile compatible games such as age of empires be played on the wizard? Again for those long flights.
Thanks is advance,
Smit
Yes and Yes
If you want decent video running you'll need to overclock (see Overclocking thread)
Does overclocking reduce the processor life as I plan to use it for atleast 2-4 years. I know this is true for desktop processor but don't know much abt pocket pc processors. Battery life is not a big concern as I plan to buy an additional battery anyway.
Thanks,
Smit
You don't need to overclock the Wizard if you're re-encoding video specifically for it. If you're watching high bitrate media that you encoded for your PC then yes, overclocking will help you view that kind of media but video that's specifically encoded at QVGA with a medium bitrate should work fine at the default clock speed.
I personally however keep my Wizard overclocked for other reasons, and yes the battery does drain quicker. It's a logical assumption that overclocking the Wizard will decrease the processor's lifetime but it's anyone's guess by how long. (Does anyone even know how long the Wizard's processor will last for under specifications?) However, since these processors are designed to run in ultra-low power modes with no active cooling, and low heat emissions, it would be purely my EDUCATED GUESS that the difference in life expectancy is negligible.
No one knows the awnser to that question, so far we have had very few reports of any problem with overclocking. Personally i overclock but plan only to keep my phone a year(I change it yearly) ,i would not be happy to overclock it longer than this because in theory it must shorten the life of some cpu's. However you can get perfectly good video at normal cpu speeds using xvid or divx at 320 x 240 res at 20 fps - at this it wont drop any frames. As for games most work fine but the really graphics intensive will be slow. If you can wait the htc hermes comes out soon which is very like the wizard but has a samsung 300 mhz processor which people say is equiv to intel 400 Mhz processor. Choice is yours - most users on the forum are very pleased with their wizard and i would consider replacing my wizard with a new one in six months time.
Does anyone know how windows mobile games such as pocket age of empires (big fan of it since it was initially released during pentium II days) runs on the wizard. I was considering Hermes but I don't really need the 3G capabilities and I am quite sure it is going to be a lot more expensive than the Wizard. I don't even thnk it will be offered in the US by the carriers as they don't seem to have wide UMTS coverage nor will they have one in the near future.
Thanks,
Smit
I'll try that game for you - interested myself how the game is and how it runs. Keep you posted.
Age of empires runs just great even with the phone not overclocked - was in demo mode though don't know if there are any more qraphics intensive parts of the game. Looks addictive though, a bit like spb airislands which i have and that is good. Q can it be completed without too much killing, i am not into meaningless killing - might consider buying the game.
Thanks for trying Age of Empires. Yes it is a very addictive game and you could easily spend hours. You could get by without killing a lot of people but this requires skill. Anyway I am looking forward to my new Cingular 8125.
Thanks,
Smit
I had this game running on my orginal xda without any problems so the wizard should fly it
What do you guys think of the eten M600 vs. the Wizard.
The M600 has a much faster processor (even beats Jasjar) but no edge and keyboard which also makes it slimmer than the Wizard.
a queston about another phone, in the wizard section, in a thread asking about the wizard... RANDOM

i actually downsample all my vids using pocket divx encoder to 320x240, and i use TCPMP to play stuff. works fantastic, and i get comments from people all the time about how good the video looks. size is nice too. i can fit ~4 full-length feature films on my 1gig card, and have some space left over.
i did notice recently that i had to overclock for perfectly smooth playback of compressed video while using a2dp streaming, but hey, that's to be expected.

by any chance are there any higher capacity batteries for this phone out??
Hello all! Great, very helpful site!!! Fantastic!
I, too, am looking into getting an 8125 through Cingular and after reading through this thread I had a couple of questions:
1) If anyone is familiar with it, and if I had a 2Gb mini sd, could I play the original Unreal Tournament on the 8125?
2) I have quite a few tv shows on my HD (xvid). How would I go about changing them to 320x240 res?
Any help is appreciated!

I don't know if anyone else have this video posted but take a look.
It is actually a good review - touchflo seems to have come on leaps and bounds which is still not evident on the diamond (inspite of the fact it has the same processor - more mem perhaps?).
The woman narrating did a decent job except she did make me laugh a few times unintentionally (she got a little too excited about the size of the screen )... Looking at the size of the device though - it is actually pretty big! The Samsung looks to be the optimal size for a smartphone... The HTC screen is superb though

I'm English and a woman speaking French (or English with a French accent) does wonders for me!
After watching the latest video and esp. seeing TouchFlo performance and that it is not that much bigger than the Diamond I am edging towards the Blackstone over the Xperia X1 (probably be out before the Sony anyway).
Can anyone remember how long the Diamond took to reach the carriers after the official launch? Seeing as the Blackstone is launching on Nov 6th and Orange are more than likely to stock it I am just trying to figure out a timeline....

Problem i see with the X1 is it has a higher res display on virtually the same size screen as the Touch Pro making text even smaller. Now the Touch HD has a much larger screen and higher res thant he X1.
I have one on pre-order and no Windows Mobile device has excited me like this one, it looks fantastic, latest is it should be hitting early November, cannot wait for you guys to start making it work so much better as usual.

A-GPS is GPS!!! Its the normal GPS just enhanced by the ability to download sattelite position information over the net, which makes it much faster then the normal GPS. A stands for assisted. So it's calles A-GPS. Theres no reason you would want the "old" GPS.
Raziel1 is spot on AGPS has all the features of GPS with the additional feature of a quick fix using sat positions that can be downloaded OTA so is superior to GPS. The Touch HD will have AGPS

Here in Australia the cost of the net assistance is way beyond the value of it, so I only want the "old" GPS.

another disappointing device from htc?

Hi!
First of all, I buy 2 days ago a Touch HD (im getting this week), but all the more I read, my thinks are that HD is not a great device finally.
Pros
- Big screen
Cons
- GPS Lag (ultra important)
- Video doesnt play smooth (80 90%) on coreplayer and have lag
- Camera lag and bad quality photos.
- No [email protected] videos
- Lot of devices with dead pixels
So, why buy this device instead staying on a Diamond/pro or buying a X1? If I stay, I only lose a bigger screen that not cost 600€ for me (usb from the diamond have adapters to 3.5 minijack), and if you buy a X1, only lose the big screen but wins all of the cons of HTC devices plus more ram and better battery.
So, what are your reason to buy the Touch HD? Im thinking on cancel my order on monday.
yes, cancel your order and buy an iphone , this solve all probs about camera , recording , gps lag etcetc

I doubt this ... because:
I am not sure that this big screen is effective enough. For watching movie and video, yes it is. However, for browsing the internet, without a doubt, you can see more content compare to 2.8" screen ... but is it directly readable without zooming? I dont think so ... Still nice though.

My reason? I dont know ... probably I will stick with my Kaiser ... and wait the next 3.8" WinMo ...
Or probably wait WinMo 6.5? Probably this can add some more functionalities.
Well right now i want a WinMo device and i want it with a 3.5mm audio jack, so that leaves me with two options:
X1 and Touch HD
Since X1 doesnt have an acclerometer (which WinMo7 is going to use heavily), has a recessed screen and TouchFlo doesnt play nice with it yet and since i can't use the keyboard fully in my language, i'd rather go with Touch HD's bigger screen.
GPS and camera aren't so crucial for me (for 3 years on my old nokia, i've used the camera ~10 times, haven't had a GPS and don't imagine i'll need it much (though its nice to have)).
Devices with dead pixels are covered by warranty, so that shouldnt be a problem.
And the only other argument you have is video doesnt play smooth, which isnt that good, since i plan on using it a lot, but when i asked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443245 the guy says that non-AC3 movies from the net play ok and on one review, the reviewer was playing an ep of House on it and it looked OK to me, so i guess it'll do for me.

Actually it is. Played for 30 mins with one at a shop the other day and zoomed out everything was perfectly readable for me (though i'm young and don't use glasses, don't know about old folks (a lady at the Xperia forum returned it for that very reason)) the only thing that bugged me is that you can't click links directly from a zoomed out standpoint, first you have to zoom in, but that's Opera's fault, not Touch HD's. The guys at Opera should fix it
Which Windows Mobile phone can do that?

X1 can and it haa pretty much the same specs as Touch HD, except for the camera, maybe that's the problem.
Also Nokia N95
iPhone might as well not have a camera
its a nice phone but not the killer device it was hyped up to be, but i hope it will improve god willing when the developers have a go at it.
...Frankly speaking, you should have waited if you had been disappointed by the HTC devices in general. If you don't like to fiddle with your telephone, suffer for improvements, contribute to it and refresh your OS every week - then an HTC is probably not the better choice, many other companies make good telephones and similar sexy toys. The touch HD is, in my opinion, the most innovative personal platform which has appeared in the last years - it just misses Linux which will arrive soon...
i think that HTC telephones are a technology platform to have fun, like PCs 20 years ago.
If you were expecting an "out of the box" apple performances and finished ergonomics there is no need of investigating: i would suggest to cancel your order and buy an I***** (...oops, i cannot even write it....maybe an allergy? )
BTW, i have a touch HD already and i have been driving at least two hours with it and i continously hear about the GPS lag: WHICH GPS lag? If it is a 20 m lag, at which speed you drive?
Since there is a lot of speculation, shouldn't everybody clarify if they heard/read about a problem from internet, or they had/saw the problem themselves?

compared with the touch pro, the touch hd is a big improvment. Battery life seems increadable - with the same use the touvch pro would have died hours ago and i still have 50 % left!1 Gps sensitivity is as good as my old kaiser - the touch pro could never get a lock indoors.

Dear Kersh,
i don't understand what is real and what is speculation: which sound quality? which lag? which playback issues? which etc.etc.?
I have been driving with it on highways, city and walking my dog. I couldn't see any lag. If the diamond had a lag (i don't know) you should not extrapolate that the touch HD behaves in the same way. Please let me know of a conclusive and quantitative test you'd like to see and I'll try it out.
I have one and i am very happy. At the same time, software improvements on such a machine can make it improve even further and extend the satisfaction of owners for years. In my opinion, this device offers the best performances which are available on the market today.
My old trinity improved a lot with time - thanks to the people here trying hard to improve these devices!
By the way, I don't believe that Iphones are bad at all - simply they are like Apple PC: good for my mother and my wife - but i want to be at the frontline and contribute to it.
All the Best,
Let's make it clear iGO v8.3.1.57021 corrects the lag ! and many more improvments

Dear pzucchel,
as u mentioned in the second paragraph, would u be kind enough to do some simple test for the gps lag issue.can u drive at a speed of 80 to 100 km/h,when you physically reach a junction or an interchange ,where is the current location(i.e car icon or triangle) of your device showing? if its exactly parallel to the junction or interchange, than there is no lag..the difference between your physical location and your device location is the actual lag.Another simple test is when your car has physically turn into a junction, how long would the device take to show you are now driving on a new road and direction.and if you could be kind enough to specify what navigation program you used for the test..that will be wonderful.
Thanks in advance for your help
I've been looking forward to the touch hd for a bit now, and I still plan to get it. If there is anything i have learnt from these forums is how a lot of problems is software based.

It depends on the software you use.
I have tried Garmin XT and iGO 8.3.1 on my HTC Trinity.
The Garmin was always a little bit behind, where iGO was always on spot!
And guess what:
I have tried both on my Touch HD, and have exactly the same findings!
I too like Android OS on the cell phone. I have been trying to tolerate the Sammy i760 I am now using, but the HD and the Omnia 16gb both look good. I also am thinking of the Invidia Tegra 600 series as it WILL play at 30fps. Would this be the "one" to wait for? or is it in something and I don't know due to all the Dr's I have to see and travel too? Thanks, JASTECH

X1 slow strategus

X1 one with it's GPU and CPU .. it cant even handle this..
it is slow and i am ashamed
OMG People!!!
Will you stop whining for once in your life time?
When will you get that if the application hasn't been custom made for the X1 (in order to use the GPU acceleration features be it 2D/3D) IT WILL RUN SLOWLY.
Take Xtrakt for example...does that move slowly to you? And it's 3D!! WHY, because it uses the hardware acceleration provided by the GPU.
Jeez...
A bit harsh
but needed to be said
I also have done my fair share of moaning but i will not let go of my X1
But the interesting part is that Warcraft II runs smoothly and fast on a Touch HD, maybe we have some bad settings somewhere...
warcraft 2 runs fine on the x1 too, i have been playing it for a while now
I have it installed as well btw. It is running a bit slow but nonetheless i spent an hour playing until those BASTARDS destroyed me!
@leobox1 : Hope you didn't take it personally. I just got sick and tired of reading threads where people blame the hardware where no software optimization was done to use it at full potential.

Can you share your game folder with us? Just zip or rar it and put it on a filesharing site, eg. http://fisier.ro/
Or did you just download it from here and it already worked fast?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=495136
Mine is not lagging, I can scroll on the minimap very fast and smooth, but building something or waiting for peasants to mine takes ages. The speed slider is at max.
Then set the game speed faster?...
Even with fastest speed set, it still runs very slow. And if it's true that it works fast under Touch HD, than we could expect speedups for X1 too.
I don't think it's X1's fault, but more of a bad optimization of the specific software.
fastest for me still slow.. even menus are slow.. its like you have to press "specially" hard
Try the new version - the menus are faster.

a "gpu" well more like so and so video acceleration that x1 have is
not something programs automatically take advantage of
if the program is just written for pure software render by the cpu
you can have a nvidia onboard magic 8800 and it will still be dormant
Totally agree with the mod.
