HTC Kaiser - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Anybody ahve any info on the Kaiser. Basically a thinner Hermes with GPS as I understand it. It was announced at CES but can't find many details anywhere.

Here you go m8..

interesting...sorta. i looked at the specs and ok so it's got onboard gps enabled and 256MB ROM (Hermes has 128). otherwise it's the same specs as the Hermes.... not enough for me to fork out another $700 to "upgrade".

In the above link the picture shows the slide keyboard open with the screen slightly tilted up. Is it really so?? or maybe just an optical illusion
Regards

Htc Kaiser
Hi, three day ago I saw this new Htc tytn- Kaiser and communicate to our local pda-forum called Mobisux from Ljubljana (capital of Slovenija)very open-minded forum. I was suprised that all expert start asking me: what do you mean with this link - who is behind, I put link http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=733, . I have feeling that I do somethig wrong, than I ask moderator, why my post disappear - he don t answer me? Is this page(pdab.net) fake or what?
Best regards,
Derek

I hope this HTC P4550 (HTC Kaiser) is for real! It will be my replacement for the HTC Hermes. The GPS and the extra memory is a must for me

This one is real, altho the picture is not of the real device, it is picture designed on computer, more like concept art.
My opinion is that it is not worth of upgrade from hermes to kaiser. I am waiting for a hermes/kaiser form factor device with 3D hardware accelerator

Added HSUPA..
Not sure how important this is.. From what gather they probably could add this to our Hermes since it is just a protocol change..
Is it even used anywhere yet?
Also boosted the Camera up a bit..
Having something thinner wouldn't be bad but I won't be changing anytime soon..

From what I can see
Kaiser = Hermes + WM6 + 2x memory + GPS - a liitle bit of size.
In other words practically the perfect device, what else could you want other than a battery that never runs out!!
However, I won't be upgrading, but that's becasue I've only just got my Hermes on an 18 month contract with T-Mobile and I can't justify 5-700GBP for the extra bits of suff. I'm not too upset though; I was one of the first with the Universal (first WM5 device) and I found that having WM5 at the time to be a real pain as nothing properly worked with it. Plus when I look at all the early problems on the early Hermes (screen misalignment) and my own experience, I'm already on my second Hermes (the first HTC device I've ever had a problem with), I do wonder if quality is being sacrificed in place of speed to market, so I console my self that waiting a while for the problems to be ironed out is the best thing to do.

It's also USB 2.0 - hmmm.. USB2, GPS, 256mb, better cam... I think me wants!!!

Matko,Matko
Hi, everybody I am very happy, that I can read something about future pda - Kaiser, becouse in my country our administrator(moderator - I don¨t wanna name it) delete some post about it. And the guys(expert) who translate in Slovenian language whole procedure from this XDA-DEVELOPERS FORUM ask me WHY I make a questions about htc Kaiser and if I am agent for htc. You Slovenian guys ask here :WHY, WHO is behind? this people will answer you, perhaps.
Best regards,
Derek

roms and support

hello
im thinking of getting the hw6945 as a replacement for my wizard. there are couple of reasons that i havent done yet and this is y:
1. there are no unlock methods, sim and app.
2. not enough user support.
3. no new roms aku3.3.
4. no wm6.
5. current rom is sluggish.
is there a better forum for the ipaq or is it that this fone isnt that famous amongst ppl.
Please let me know asap since i need to make a decision now.
The sluggish part I can't really deny - but it's called the "swiss army knife" of pda/phones for a good reason. Rumors had it that the HP lineup was going to get the wm6 upgrade, which makes sense since the 69xx series is the "flagship" line and they usually have an upgrade path - most recently with the 47xx series. People will tell you that the 65xx wasn't upgradeable but that's because the 69xx was already in pre-production when wm5 was announced. I believe that's the reason why the 69xx is so slow - they just loaded it up with the new OS without upgrading the cpu. From what I understand the specs for wm6 isn't so high as to make the device any more sluggish.
There isn't much user support, but it's a business model not really for hacking.
What's in the new ROM that you want??
I believe it comes unlocked in many parts of the world.

i didnt know that they called the hw6900 series the swiss army of all PDAs. even if they did how come not alot of ppl have it or talk about it. i mean comparing to the wizard, there is so much support for it. anyways, what makes me confused is i love my wizard, but it has been with me for more than a year and i wanted to get another phone. i was thinking about the jasjam but since its the same concept at the wizard, i started to look for something else. you big screen, q keyboard, gps. the hp has all these but then it doesnt have what made the wizrd fun, and that is formating and trying out new roms. how do u like yours and have you had another windows fone other than your hp?
I try to limit myself to one pda/phone gadget at a time. I had the wizard and the magician before that - jasjar never excited me, it's just too huge and in the end you have to be able to talk on the phone without looking like you're holding a brick to your face. The only other phone I would use instead of the hw6965 would be the new treo 750. I'm pretty pragmatic really and I enjoy the good hack as much as the next guy, but the older I get the more I like my things to "just work" as opposed to messing around with it all the time. Treo doesn't have wifi or gps but I like the form factor. The wizard isn't really practical in my opinion - you always have to slide out the keyboard (which means that you are only allowed to be in landscape when you type) and consequently you have to use 2 hands.
with the upcoming launch of new wm6 phones, I'd hold off on any purchases if I were you.

I have had both the 8125 and 8525. I then recieved the HP 6925 from Cingular and I haven't used the others since. In fact I just sold my 8525 on ebay. The 6925 is amazing. The GPS rules and can used with most GPS programs. The keypad works great and the screen cover is perfect. The only thing is that HP is really slow with rom updates. The processor is faster then the 8525 however you take a hit on the screen. Calls are clear and I love using one hand to make calls. I no longer slide out the keyboard. I am very happy and iPAQ's are built to last... Hope this helps..

Shall I buy Orange M3100?

Hi,
now I have an old Nokia 6230 in combination with Mio P550. Nokia is pretty old, but so far ok for me (only thing I really hate is that I cannot sort my contact list in groups as I want to) and I'm using Mio mainly for navigation (i-Go) and synchronization of my calendar and tasks. Now the time has come to change my mobile phone.
New phone will be from Orange (under contract) and consider two possibilities.
1. sell Nokia and Mio and buy Orange M3100 (SK)
2. stick with Mio and buy Nokia 6233 (or maybe E50, but not sure I want Symbian, WM is better)
Pos:
1. all-in-one, WM platform, keyboard
2. built-in GPS, all my phones are Nokia, so I have all equipment I need, price (difference is 450euro, but something will come back if I sell Mio)
Neg:
1. no working built-in GPS, need to buy BT GPS receiver, price
2. two devices and Nokia has now really troubles to get out some no-bug fw for this phone
I have read all topics related to M3100 on this forum. This is great device, but there is big chance, that something will go wrong (e.g. loosing GSM signal and muting issue). I'm confident I will not update the ROM in this device in first few months because Orange will not allow me to do it without loosing warranty.
So the big question. Shall I buy M3100? How big is the chance I will have really big issues? Are there some S/N ranges, revisions, that I should not buy?
Thanks for any info .
buy it
.
Very tempting to say
Don't buy it!
But that would just put you back to a bit of a dilemma.
Bear in mind that the majority of posts here are from those that have had problems. Very few people make posts to say hey my e-mail is working or I always manage to take a good picture etc etc. So reading here would make you believe there is hardly a device that works properly.
Most folks probably get along just fine, but I would say that there are a number of tweaks and settings that should be done as standard on this device and then a full backup so you can restore at the drop of a hat as and when you do face a problem.
Your other consideration might be to wait for the Kaiser say, though that could be a while and initial pricing could be very high. Also newly released devices are a challenge for the ROM Gurus but everyday users should wait for several months after initial release and problems are ironed out.
I've got mine working just fine now, but I still get the odd freeze every couple of weeks - I backup a lot so not a great problem in my view.
Mike
Thanks mikechannon.
I'm around on Internet for some time, so I know that mainly complaitns can be found on boards. Satisfied users are not searching boards like this to tell us that everything is ok. They have no need. That is why I asked "How big is the chance I will have really big issues?". Guys here are working with this device on advanced level and can tell me more in few words as an regular user.
At this moment I'm 80% sure I will take it. I feel in me something like "dream comes true" . And I don't know why, it's missing working build-in GPS and big screen with 640x480 (joke). I have still one week to make final decision. Today I sent email to Orange to know more about the device (ROM version, etc.), hopefully Orange will responde quickly. If there is big chance (nothing is for 100%) nothing will brake down I will buy it
I decided to wait couple of months since I was not entire sure.
After two weeks I finally received reply from Orange. There will be probably no official update to WM6 and I'm not allowed to use any unofficial firmware without loosing warranty (so nothing new). There was only one useful information in entire email. Software in M3100 is version 14.123.8.783. But I was not able to find anything with this number. Is this real or Orange sent me something that is not useful?
I have my M3100 for four months now without any issues. You can check these faulty batches here. Only problem I have had so far is low in-call volume, but I think that is dependant on the OS. If you are sure that is what you need then go for it. Veľa šťastia.
I went from a xda 2i to hermes and not regretted it. I plucked up nerve to install black 2.0 (very happy with it) and if it goes wrong just put original wm5 rom back on it.
As for the gps thing, ebay has some cheap bt recievers and you can use them on any other phone you buy in the future (on my 4th phone with same reciever)
Orange SPV 3100 straight out of the box isn't that great.
I've totally customised mine, and everything works great. My biggest problem were the usb headphones/handsfree, which I have now hacked to accept 3.5mm headphones.
The biggest problem, which is out of my hands, is the camera. Completely useless at night time/poor lighting. Other than that, I am very happy... size, weight, battery life and speed are just fine.
Go for it if you think you can customise it.
(BTW, I am using the OS straight out of the box, so no firmware updates (although I will be unlocking it soon))
if you can wait a little bit then i'd look at getting the kaiser once that's out.
if not get the 3100 now and with the help of this place you'll get it working the way it should. imo wm6 is a must
KarhU - what was the original ROM version in your device?
DeanJ - well, I can wait (till Xmas) . But what will be the price and will Orange have its own clone?

I do not know for sure (it did not stay there for long ), but I think it was that ROM (it has the same Radio I had and the same bootloader as well, also OS version is the same) and this Ext ROM. All the versions of Hermes available in Slovakia are not localized.

well its expected to be released june/july by htc from the last i read but if orange will brand it who knows, it seams a logical step and it just depends what built in gps and a thiner device means to you really. as for the price it'll prob be the same as the 3100 when it was first released, i dont know what that was as i got my hermes from t-mobile
Out of the box experience for the m3100...had to kid myself everything was running ok, it was slow and pretty sluggish, not amazing by any stretch! Quite a bit faster upgrading to WM6, however you're always on your toes anticipating the next crash/freeze!
I would recommend getting one. I always have mine with me and I couldn't be without it. It really is the best device on the market!!!!
Had my M3100 since December last year. Best handset I have ever had from Orange. Add this to www.xda-developers.com and you have powerfull combination. I have tried just about all the english WM5 roms and most of the WM6 ones too. If you follow all the tips, instructions & advice etc in the WIKIs you can't go far wrong! Take time to read and search! I am currently running Black Version 2.0, personal and company IMAP e-mail setup on it, along with TomTom 6 and various other apps. Bottom line, go get one!!!!
i have been using a 3100 now for months with no problems at all,,,i have upgraded to black version 2.0 with i only did for fun and everything is great...
go buy one now !!!
So, I have an offer for SPV. The s/n is starting with 357. How old is it? In wiki I found only 6xx and 7xx.
It's home . Now I need to search for some good applications to work with phone, contacts and messages .

This forum NEEDS Developers & Chefs....

Has no one realised yet, that we have none of the major xda developers from the other forums?
IMHO, we've got the best device out there, but we are far from having any decent ROMs or specially tweaked home-brewed apps!
Why? Because most of the developers do not have an Athena and are probably happy with their devices.
I think we should start up a little fund/paypal account to be held by xda-developers for whichever developer takes on our plight of either cooking a special ROM just for our Athena's or other tweaked apps, or even better to get the developer an Athena (via our contributions).
It's all talk unless we do something. I've had most of the best PPC/Phone devices from HTC and I have to say this forum (whilst I love the community spirit an all) is the slowest in terms of development i.e. cooking up ROMs and tweaked apps and that's no disrespect intended to the people here who are already employed in the Industry. I'm no guru, but am willing to donate to get things moving. As far as know, ther's no official WM6 ROM for the Universal, yet there are several WM6 ROMs available for it etc...
Does anybody else share my views or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
I'm with you... happy to donate if we can get some movement into this space. I'm especially afraid that HTC will release their WM6 and we won't get any help trying to get it onto the AMEO
We need more support.

Agree with you 100%. If we get enough feedback in this thread, we can put up a request for developers in the news thread and the relevant forums like the Universal & Hermes forums, as between those two devices, they have everything our devices have and the gurus there would know how to overcome the issues we struggle with.
We don't even have a decent dialer cab or WM6 Media player as default. A lot of these apps must be able to be stripped from a WM6 ROM for the VGA Universal, which should work in our devices.
We also need people who are skilled at converting QVGA apps to VGA. I'd do it if I knew how to.
I've got a dumped HTC Touch ROM and a WM6 ROM for both the Hermes and Universal, but I'll be damned if I knew what to do with it other than flashing it to the appropriate device.
See my point....
This explains my thought process a lot better. You know what they say...a picture sometimes tells the story much better:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/hermes-black-rom-announcements/9795-black-iv-shadow-released.html
hey i think its a great idea.
so am i eligible for the free ameo/advantage ???
jokes apart, the reason i guess that not many people are jumping on to ameo is that
a)it is percived to be a big device, not suitable for daily use as a phone
b)it is damn expensive
c)with htc royaly dumping people with older devices (Uni,wizard) and the relative ease with which one can cook different roms (including wm6 roms for it)
d)i think that athena has "missed the bus" had it been released a couple of months earlier then probably soneone would have CID unlocked it and you could have beta tested wm6 roms for it.
i remember that for universal the rom scene really heated up when aku 3.5 was released on newer devices but not for Uni.
also i think the reason why a large no of people got the universal was its large vga screen with a usable keybord and the then newly released wm5,
if you really look at ameo there is really nothing it brings to the table.
if you really want to kick-start ameo's rom development...
get someone to leak the wm6 rom....
and beg/steal/kill for a FREE cid unlock
i think most would pay for a guaranteed wm6 update and cid unlocker but if we get no where could be a waste especially if there is an ameo update in a few weeks. and if every ameo / athena owner paid £5.00 that would pay 4 a device i assume thay must be hundreds of people with one its a great device assuming you have a headset and you appreciate not having to squint like with the universal.

apparently lot of people prefer to squint and infact want to squint more (waiting for Omni with wvga in a similar sized screen)
did you guys try the spb dialer (the black one )...IMHO it is better than the wm6 one...at leat it supports video call

The unit is an excellent unit with much more potential than we are seeing right now! I agree and would also donate to this cause to get someone who owns one, and is capable of helping us solve some issues.
IMHO, I think that maybe people are waiting for the official release of WM6 by HTC and others for this device before really tearing into it.
Just my .04 cents worth........Later

I agree that the Athena is absolutely excellent, and that we need developers.
However, I got the same feeling when I got the TyTN. I'm guessing more beginners and advanced users will pick up a Athena, and if the user count is going up, so is the customizing...
I'm more than happy to Paypal money at someone (Can I use Paypal as a verb?), just so I can eventually see a ROM like Black - IV - Shadow running in glorious VGA Landscape on the Athena.

Agree with you on the Black IV Shadow on the Athena. But it's great to see that most of us with an Athena are prepared to do more to get things rolling. Good feedback peeps. Will have to put the word out after the HTC ROM release/update, if it does not prove to be up to scratch, not forsaking CID & Sim unlocking.
I agree with you
I think most of us is willing to chip in some money considering if each of us have to pay GBP20 for cid unlocking (not including of postage!).
We need to have Gurus here or we will be left behind with all kind of development. But who ?..there are quite a number out there
like apphoen..."I'm more than happy to Paypal money at someone "
I'm not sure....
The hackers and crackers do it for fun and because they love their device - NOT because they are being paid for it.
I am quite happy to donate to the forum but can you imagine the pressure that would be put on a developer if we'd paid him? There is no perfect WM6 for the Universal but the guys all work for nothing doing a great job.
If people were paying you would get the inevitable - "this doesn't work, what am I paying for, fix it now!" type comments and who wants prssure like that?
I think we are just going to have to wait until one, or preferably more, clever people get their hands on an Athena and start doing it for fun.
I love my Athena - the screen is gorgeous (I am old and don't like squinting either) I'm disappointed with the keyboard compared to the Universal but other than that I love it - but can't wait for a decent WM6!
Just my 2d's worth
my point is MAYBE this device is quite expensive to some of the developer (no offence), by contributing one or more to our developer hopefully they will bring "live" into our forum..yeah i agree there should be no pressure as they do it for fun..
regards...
Hi,
I will be glad paying some money to improve our machine !!!
Do you think the changes should be done over the actua WM5 version we are actually running ? or this should be done over the coming WM6 version ...... I hope some of the know gaps would be fixed on the new one ....
By the way, I understand what SIM unlock means but .... what do you mean by CID unlock ?
Thanks a lot everybody.
Best regards,
Alberto
For me the first step is to have a tool to unlock a cid but unfortunately i have no idea how to do, imei check have the solution but they provide it online why ?
Because they are afraid from thief but they will more client than by mail.
I love my athena and i want more stuff so please xda guru help us to enjoy our phone

Is Hermes better than Artemis (XDA Orbit)?

I've had my Hermes for about 5 months now, and I do love it but it seems XDA Orbits (HTC Artemis) have come down in price so I'm tempted to sell the Hermes and get one of these instead.
Are they better than the Hermes? I know they don't have QWERTY, but they do have a GPS which is a handy gadget to have I guess. Do they offer anything else the Hermes doesn't have?
Any replies would be great!
hope this helps

battery is much worse than the one in hermes. actually as far as i am concerned they don't make such 'long life on batteries' PDA's anymore - and i say this when GPS is off because with GPS Artemis dies in a moment :] for me most important thing is 'how long my device can live without charging' that's why i don't have Kaiser for example
I've changed my mind, seems the Hermes is better Spec'd other than GPS and has the larger battery!
Maybe I'll wait until something else comes about! Thanks.
good to hear your sticking with the hermes
just wanted to say an external gps reciever with a hermes would run better than the orbit
(channels, battery etc)
so you made the right choice
I caved in and sold the Hermes in the end (£105), and I bought the Artemis (Orbit £120) off ebay.
I was just annoyed at the little scratch on the screen and couldn't be bothered to change the screen/digitizer. Just hoping the screen on my new phone isn't scratched or I'll be back in the same place again! Although I've seen Orbit screens for £18 so it's not too bad even if I do have to swap.
Anyway goodbye people, nice owning the Hermes but time to move on!

How many are we? (Iolite)

I've just seen similar topic in our relative's (Jade) forum, I did like the idea and was curious how many users are there with Iolite.
So, If you own TC09, please write something in this tread .
One user from Czech Republic here .
(Btw, I'm quite happy with the device.
I like Iolite's battery life(!!), good GPS, responsiveness, call quality... and I wouldn't trade those for any other device's features. For me it feels even smaller than Diamond thanks to it's rounded corners and also little more comfy... Love the mechanical navigation ring - probably the best control element possible. The TF2D is fine, in fact I like it little more than the 3D one, it's just faster. When buying, I hesitated for a while because of the QVGA screen and new WM6.5 comming but now I'm happy with the device and I wouldn't go for anything else so far )

Quite satisfied with the device too

Best damn device ever!

Very satisfied with the device. For me it just has the right combination of features (excellent nowhere but bad nowhere unlike other devices). The navpad is just great to use and something other phones don't have.

Iolite is a good second phone for me. It is of small size and nice to use, but there are also many lacks. I miss radio and autofocus camera. I thought it would have been like older Cruise, a newer and better version, because the name is the same. It is worse not better. Iolite is like my two years old Htc Artemis.
Want to put manila 2d
Yeah...i'm having this phone but without manila...i'm not satisfied.. Anyone has updated the rom with manila2d?
...representing germany, too!
i'm from northern germany near bielefeld...
I am from Germany but have a dutch Iolite. First I was not fully sure about it but i started to enjoy it more and more. Of course something could be better like being able to customize more, not having the keyboard cover half the screen...
And i would really like to swap my language and wait for someone to create a working tool for unlocking it.

I'm sick of TouchFlo&words predict
Hi all. I'm from Russia.
I have Cruise (polaris)
I've bought Cruise2 but i don't like it. Too small. Stick too flexible. I'm always thinking that i can broke it. Reset button not accessible from outside. It is not so fast as i thougth etc...
So my wife's cougth this cruise2 (she had touch/elf before). She likes it very much =)
So htc polaris still the best for me.
Count this dutch guy in.
Am I the only one with navpanel and not starting bleutooth problem ?
Singapore. I'm quite happy with mine. Probably because my last phone was an O2 Atom exec
Luxembourg here. I like the phone and it has some useful features, but I find you have to tweak it a lot. Some programs should be included by default (like the settings you can only set with advanced configurators from this forum).

I really like my HTC Iolite The best bought i've ever made
