Cingular 8125 WM6 Exchange Server Issues - Can't connect since upgrading from WM5 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey all,
I have been running the PDAViet 4.0 version of the WM6 rom for our wizards. I must say that so far it seems loads better than most of the roms I have tried on it (and I have tried most of them )
Before, I had no issues with getting push email from my exchange server at work. Now after upgrading to WM6, I can't seem to connect for the life of me. When I connect, I get a "Support code: 0x80072F06" error. Now instead of being a total tool and just asking you smarties to solve my question without any leg work on my part, I researched this error code and it seems to be a certificate error. I have entered my exchange server info the EXACT way as before.
I even exported the certificate from IE, and imported it into my 8125. Same error. I then also downloaded the SSLChainSaver app, extracted the certificates from my exchange server, made it into a .cab file, imported it...nothing.
So, that being said, do you think that this is some sort of a WM6 issue? I would really hate to go back to WM5 at this point.
I saw somewhere that you could disable the OS from checking for a SSL certificate by doing a registry change, but when navigating to HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Activesync/Partners/UID blah blah <-- that last part isn't in there, so I can't insert a value to disable it... Please help!!!!!
The only other issue I have seen at this point with the WM6 rom is that the keyboard is jacked up...my dot characters aren't right at all...however the numbers and letters are fine.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide. I have been lurking on the site since the 8125 came out, and I must say I have learned a great deal from this community. Thanks!

M$ needs to patch exchange 2007 for it to work (if I am recalling the other post correctly).

Are you running Exchange 2003 at work? I'm still on 2003 and have never had a problem, whether with WM5 or WM6. I DO, however, ALWAYS configure my AS on the device initially. (If I use the PC I don't get my tasks) ... Plus it's just easier for me.
If the certificate worked with WM5 it'll work with WM6.

Is there an easy way to figure it out without asking anyone? I work for an IT company that runs all of m$'s latest stuff as far as I can tell. I would imagine they are at least 03. It worked just fine all day, and I know lots of people connected right now with WM5. It just seems to be picky with WM6 for some reason.
I am also running Vista on my work machine. There is no activesync. Now it is win mobile device center, and it doesn't feel the same at all. I haven't gotten it to sync with my phone on bluetooth yet. You can't specify com ports in the tool at all, just bluetooth. Oh well, keep reading I guess

It was the ROM...
I switched to the Underground Rom and everything seems to be working fine now. I wouldn't advise anyone with an 8125 to use the PDAViet 4.0 rom, this one, however, works great.

You are right. I Disabled SSL and Direct push worked for me

You're lucky! I couldn't even get it to work by doing that...

ActiveSync 4.1 with Win2K

Hi
I have a KJam and I am trying to sync it at work. I downloaded AS 4.1 on my Win2K pc but it keeps giving me the Retrieving Settings message for ever. I dont think there is firewall on the pc and I need some help to get it running
Thanks a lot
any help guys, still have the problem
XP Needed
i think you have to use microsoft windows xp to sync your wizard.
So no luck with Win2K, I thought that people can do it with Win2000 and aslo from Microsoft Site AS seems to be working on 2000
Thats really bad
Me too
I also have this problem with one Wizard - my wife also has a Wizard, exactly the same which has no problem syncing to the same PC. I get the same message you get " retrieving settings" which hangs for ever until I disconnect. I'm on W2k.
Did you find and answer? It's obviously not a W2k issue if one Wizard can sync.
No I cant still sync with WIN2K, someone suggested that you do hard reset and it should work. I tried on mine and still didnt work
A random guess- applied SP4? Also which firmware version you are using?
Finally I have it working!
William - Yes, I'm on SP4
Akronica - I've finally managed to get both Wizards sync'ed. Here's what I had to do. Firstly, I'm using Sygate Personal Firewall, so I follwed the directions via the link here to set up the advanced rules. See http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm This also might be useful to you for troubleshooting.
Then I added/altered 3 registry settings in my PPC (as also mentioned in the above link) using a freeware called "PHM Regedit". I downloaded the PHM Regedit from here:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=31
Just a note: I obviously couldn't use the ActiveSync installer to get this product installed, so I copied the entire directory over to my phone (via mini SD card) and then tried to launch each file. The first few didn't install successfully, but I finally did get one to install OK. The file that worked for me was "regedit_Mrln_ARM.CAB".
So, after all that I connected up and as soon as the cable was in, I soft reset the PPC. Sure enough, it made a new connection via the connection wizard and off it went.
Another note: I also turned off any passwords on the PPC, just in case. I'll do some more playing and see if this makes any difference.
Hope this helps!
Rob

Interesting
On mine it connects (win2k SP4), but drops the connection about 60s into sync.
I've now confirmed that the passwords had no impact.
I don't have any problems with it dropping connection either.
Wow yeah, I've had absolutely no problems synching with my win2k sp4. hm.

BlackBerry Connect (BBConnect) for Wizard (T-Mobile MDA)

Hi,
Maybe I am beating a dead horse but could somebody please help me with these questions about BBConect.
Device: T-Mobile MDA with ROM version 2.26.x
Questions:
1. What are the advantages of using BBConnect (other than receiving emails from BB Servers)
2. Where does it write emails to (Outlook Inbox or any designated folder)?
3. If I use BBConect can I still use ActiveSync to synchronize with other Outlook Inbox folders?
4. I have seen somewhere that the WAP proxy needs to be changed: How does it affect other apps like T-Zones? Can I still connect to the Internet using GPRS?
5. How easy is it to install, configure & operate BBConnect?
Also if somebody could give a step-by-step install guide (all pdfs I downloaded are not in English), that will really help out.
Thanks in advance.
Before answering, I can tell you that rom 2.26 and the current BB connect client do not work. You will have to use a different rom. For me, based on postings on teh forum, qtek 2.17 and cingular radio 2.25 work well.
Now to your questions:
1. What are the advantages of using BBConnect (other than receiving emails from BB Servers)
replacement for bberry service and device. if your company has a BES server, you can now use your MDA to get corpoarte email. (I do not believe it works with blackberry internet service)
2. Where does it write emails to (Outlook Inbox or any designated folder)?
designated folder
3. If I use BBConect can I still use ActiveSync to synchronize with other Outlook Inbox folders?
yes
4. I have seen somewhere that the WAP proxy needs to be changed: How does it affect other apps like T-Zones? Can I still connect to the Internet using GPRS?
yes. BBerry will use a different connection. My MDA deals pretty well with switching from one connection to teh other (automatically)
5. How easy is it to install, configure & operate BBConnect?
if you have the right ROM, pretty easy. see the other posts on teh forum. But you can't6 use rom 2.26 yet.
Thanks for the answers.
I guess I will wait for T-Mobile to update the ROM.
I am not against running other ROMs, it is just that I have bricked couple of devices and wasted too much time to get the data back.
-G
Is there any option to have blackberry and MSN Messenger simultaneusly connected?
not really: they use different GPRS access point.
I know this thread is dead for some time, but I would like to get ne1fl0w5 wave here.
I have a Qtek 9100 from Claro (Telmex Brazilian sub). It was running 2.22.17.1 PTB ROM and 2.46.11 radio rom. First tried all BBConnect clients available (they were many). All installed but would halt at "Not connected" after first provisioning of the device and connection through GPRS/EDGE. After duly CIDunlocking the Qtek at imei-check (mine is a G4, I forgot to mention), I took a deep breath and decided to give it Vodafone's ROM a shoot.
I followed these instructions and managed to make it work.
Now, to your questions:
Questions:
1. What are the advantages of using BBConnect (other than receiving emails from BB Servers)
First of all, I have to say that I find (or thought, at first) BB email services excelent, but the devices really bad. Those little keys are small even for my 9-month old baby. Besides that, that trackwheel will certainly cause repetitive stress injuries. I used for less than a day and my arm started aking (please, don't say I am fragile) In addition, it was not made for lefties such as me. And the 8700g does not have an efficient cursor (for instance, if you are to delete a letter in the beggining of a line (or two words before the cursor), you would have to delete everything and retype the text.
For those reasons, I prefer the Qtek...
As per the system itself, I have to say that emails are delivered really fast to each of them. In Blackberry connect, the calendar items are also syncronized correctly as well. However, it did not sync my contacts (and it is probably not meant to), as opposed to the Blackberry device, in which both were available.
2. Where does it write emails to (Outlook Inbox or any designated folder)?
Designated folder. You can chose which server folders you want sync'd as well.
3. If I use BBConect can I still use ActiveSync to synchronize with other Outlook Inbox folders?
Yes. However, BBConnect uses a dedicated GPRS connection and it will compete with Outlook for the radio. You will probably have issues if you are looking for concurrent exchange push functionality.
4. I have seen somewhere that the WAP proxy needs to be changed: How does it affect other apps like T-Zones? Can I still connect to the Internet using GPRS?
Whenever you connect to do anything else, your BB connection will be lost.
5. How easy is it to install, configure & operate BBConnect?
It was hard to install all Roms required to make it work, but once you have this part finished, it is very easy to get things going.
Also if somebody could give a step-by-step install guide (all pdfs I downloaded are not in English), that will really help out.
The post above gives you all the directions (except for creating the blackberry.net connection, which is not necessary).
Sorry for the lenghty (and completely out of time) post, but I would like to share this with you.
Also, I would like to say that I was not very impressed with the way things eventually got working. first thing I noticed was that the reconciliation with the server was not complete. For instance, read messages did not display as such at my server, only at the device. In addition, the BB service uses lots of storage and memory.
In the end, I prefered my Qtek 2.22 rom (much faster to load) and much better loking style. Because of all this, I have just reverted to Qtek's rom and decided to go with email redirection to an external exchange sp2 account. Although we have that in the office, they have high security standards (but forgot to prevent email redirections).

BB Connect on WM6
Blackberry is running smoothly in Universal with WM6 Rom all thanks to c0rnholio. He figured out a way to change the string that will work through decoding>changing>encoding and flashing and finally a small aku registry change.
I was wondering if same thing can be done with wizard.
Here is how-to from c0rnholio
I managed quite easy to get BB Connect running (for company email via BES).
I had the 2.24 (Mr Clean) OS ROM, 2.24 Bootloaders and 2.25.11 Congular Radio. I knew that would not support BB.
I took the OS and ExtROM from the QTek 2.17 package, changed the pagepool to 8MB (BB was said to be a memory consumer), repacked them to a new nk.nbf (with only OS and ExtROM), upgraded, installed BB Connect 2.1.2.31 (downloaded from the Vodafone.de website) and voila!
By just following the Blackberry Connect tutorial (also downloaded from vodafone.de) I had it going.
Good to know:
-I did this exercise after I received my Blackberry device from my employer (I was happy with the functionality, not with the device). So I was sure that the BB functionality was Ok for my company email account.
-When I generated the key for my PDA PIN the Blackberry device was no longer functional (I can think of reasons why).
-I did not have to use the SIM I have in the Blackberry device, in my PDA I am still using my Voice SIM (which also has a data plan)
Hi
I'm also working on getting BBconnect to work with the newer roms. I managed to get it to work with the latest Tmobile rom 2.26. But Crossbow still no luck.
I looked at the solution for changing the strings, but unfortunatly the strings mentioned are not in the crossbow rom...so can't change them (I guess they're different?).
I have contacted Faria; he seems to have a way to tweak the system so that it will work. He's currently on holiday but as soon as I have some info I'll post it here.
Did you try to get it to work on the latest aku3.3 rom?
now works
I've got it now working on all roms...including Crossbow. There is a detailled explanation in the developing forum that shows how to change the rom for BBconnect to work.
Is there an easy way to do this?
I am not a complete newbie, but I am certainly no expert in hex editing, so I was wondering if there is an wasy way to make it work on other Wizard ROMs, including the Brazilian provider I am hooked with.
Currently I am using Tmo's ROM, but there are a lot of features in this ROM I do not use and that take lots of space...
Thanks
Hacking isnt that difficult, it's just that you need to understand how it works.
The thread in Development & Hacking says it all.
I think (just have to dare to flash the hacked os now!) I managed to hack the official AKU3.3 WWE ROM.

Dopod released Blackberry PPC Client

I was on the Dopod AUS site earlier and noticed that along with a number of other Apps & Games that Dopod have released a version of Blackberry Connect 4.0 for PPC along with the ActiveSync BBConnect Desktop Setup application.
I dont use it myself but as i have only seen version 2.x around here i thought i would upload it so someone could check it out. The files included in the zip file are:
ActiveSync_BBConnect_Desktop_Setup_4.0.0.17.exe
bbconnect_pocketpc_bb_4[1].0.0.67.cab
bbconnect_pocketpc_bb_4[1].0.0.67.exe
BBCWM Quick Start Provisioning Guide.pdf
BlackBerry Connect 4.0 ppc user guide english.pdf
They do also specifically mention its for WM5 however with their WM6 release pending who knows it may work on WM6 as well. Heres the link to download from Megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GBSZ8FQH
Filesize: 24.19 MB
Cheers!
(and yes i know i misspelled Dopod in the title but it wouldnt let me go back and edit the post title :S)
thanks a lot for posting this one....yummy...going to try it on my 8525
Its very kind of you to share this. I am downloading it now. I thought that the Nokia E90 would be the first device to use BBC 4 but looks like Dopod beat them to it. Will install in on my Dopod 838 pro. They have not post it on the Asia site. Glad you manage to download it first as it may have been accidently been leaked. Lets see what BBC 4 have in store.
Once again thank you very much.
works on black 2.0
Well, I just installed on my 8525 running Black 2.0 WM6 version (I am on Cingular USA)....It seems to work fine with my BES and BIS emails...I love that it now syncs contacts, tasks and notes as well....Great!
Can't get the client to connect on Treo 750.
Any suggestions?
I called Cingular and told them I wanted Blackberry connect.
YES! Finally. REAL Blackberry on the PPC. I'm using mine with WM6 Black 2.0 and it works perfectly! Sync Contacts, Tasks and Notes now along with being able to do Enterprise Activation! Now I have no need to keep my RIM device around!
pin to pin
i imagine there still is no pin to pin yet so not really quite bb yet but gettin there, needs pin 2 pin then will be complete. but then maybe there is i could only hope.

So besides the ability for our coporate Lotus Notes / BES admins to enforce policies, make me enter password every hour, shut my PPC down , enterprise activation, syncing contacts, tasks and notes and to view picture attachments what would be another appealing reason for me to upgrade from BBC 2.X ?
Have anyone installed BBC 4.0 on LVSW 0429 ROM or Black 2.5 ROM yet ?
TIA
well
i tried it on my universal running wm6
and god i got stuck on boot screen and even a hard reset not working for me
anyone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been running BB Connect 2.blah.blah.54 for some time so it took me almost 6 installs on my Jasjam before the installation worked. Each previous time it installed and then uninstalled itself. I ended up having to copy the .CAB to my memorycard and then installed/reboot, installed/reboot until it stuck.
My company runs a BES and, using the desktop client, I was up and running in no time at all.
And why, you may ask, would I want to upgrade to all that security???
Because my carrier meters internet data separately to blackberry data and BB Connect 2 did not include a browser. So now I have a FREE!!!! browser access, not only to the internet, but my corporate network as well.
I hate to shout but...THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING
I'm having issues installing the desktop application. It installs all the way through (I even see the files in the destination directory for a split second) after which everything is removed again..... No clue what that is about. Tried to unpack the .msi file within the installer but no luck.
So I can't activate the client through my PC/Network.
Tried wireless OTA activation instead, where you have to enter your mail address and a password. You see two e-mails being sent by the device/rim server that are used for the activiation but the device doesn't seem to activate. Could it be the password needed for activation is different from the exchange password?
Strange.
It must not like the Treo 750's ROM.
I have tried 2 different SIMs both out of Blackberry 7290s. One from Cingular and one out of a T-Mobile device.
I'm stumped. It goes from "Network Available" to Data Tunnel Found" to "Not Connected".
Update: Tried the Vodafone ROM too with no luck.
Blackberry connect and browser
Managed to get the BB Connect 4.0 version running on the Black 2.0 build. AN earlier poster commented on getting the blackbeery browser to work. I did not seem to get any browser applicvation installed, do I need to do some additional config to get this up and running. I thin kI have all the service books listed.
Any help much appreciated
Thanks

Me too, but even when it appears to install properly, I can't find it in programs or settings. The 2.xx.xx versions always put a shortcut in System Settings.
Any suggestions? I'm running Black 2.0 (WM6).
Edit: Never mind, it seems to be working now!
After installation there was a Blackberry icon in the settings. This needed to be run first for initial config. After that I had a blackberry icon in my programs list that contains a browser link.

Blackberry connect question

Hello everyone,
Eventhough I have BB Conn on my AT&T 8525, my company would not help me get it paired with our BES, so I had them get me an actual BB. Now I'd like to just pull the SIM card put it in my 8525 and use BB conn. From what I have read, this should not be an issue; but I understand that the device type will show up on the BES. Now I doubt they have someone monitoring with such a fine comb, but since They will not let personal devices on, oh yeah, nor would they let me get a TILT as a BB, is there a way to spoof the device type on the BES or is this something someone would be interested in looking into as my programming skills are long gone. Thanks in advance for all your replies.
As far as i know there is no way of spoofing the BB device so that the BES sees your WinMo device as a BB.
Also i think it would be necessary for you to redo the Enterprise Activation anyway, as from the BES's point of view you would be a new device, this would require the assistance of your BES Admin.
This same solution worked for me.
But I am using BBC 2 on my Wizard.
All I had to do is to get a good (that is: BBC compatible) ROM version(I hacked it) and AKU value in the registry (hacked that as well).
I was then able to connect my WM device to the BES using the BBC desktop software. The BBC desktop software seems to push the device PIN (which is different on the WM device than on the BB device) to the BES.
Works flawlessly. BBC has some drawbacks BTW: I cant cope with big mail or calendar archives, so you have to clean up your Exchange account once in a while. BBC 2 is a memory hog as well (and it seems to have a memory leak). But a weekly / bi-weekly softreset fixes hat.
I am still curious to get BBC 4 on my device. This new version seems to have more difficult catches.
A how to guide on hacking the OS in order to rum BBC is in the development & hackng forum.....
That's as maybe, but if the BES admin has set it up so that only an allowed list of devices are allowed then BBC will not connect.
Also as there is an existing embargo on personal devices could it be against company policy and thus disciplinable to circumvent things?
As a BES Admin I can confirm that non BBs show up as something different. We have a Nokia Communicator running BBC on our BES and it shows as a Nokia RA-6

I ended up doing exactly what you have done due to corporate policy. However I have never even unboxed the BlackBerry they posted me. I had to call the helpdesk to get them to create a password for the Enterprise Activation but that was it. I then installed BBC (4.0.0.97) and just did the activation and it all worked.
I tried version 4.0.0.100 but it didn't work for some reason so I ended up using the slightly older version as I had seen various reports of it working. I think our IT department must know I am using a HTC Kaiser, however I think as long as I don't start asking for support they are OK with it.
When they created the password for enterprise activation it lasts for a day or so and then can't be used and you have to request another activation. I can see this being a pain if you want to play about installing new ROMs.

owa access

I'm trying hard to like my x1, can anyone help?
Whenever I try to access OWA using either PIE or Opera I get a page cannot be displayed error. Anyone else seen this and got a solution? OWA works fine using my E90 S60 browser.
Thanks, Martyn.
Just tried it on Opera 9.5 build 15202 and it renders really nicely - pleasantly surprised!
Doesn't work in my Opera Mobile. Can't remember the build. It's the one with Manila favs from Itje's thread.
It works nice and is really fast (as always) in latest Opera Mini.

Try Opera Mini.
I'd not like to use Opera Mini for sensible sites
like OWA. It transmits logins over a proxy,i don't
think it's a good idea...
why don't you use Active Sync? You can sync it
manually and e.g. only for the last days. But for
the most it uses less traffic then visiting
the OWA site everyday...
Better yet, set up your push email. It keeps a HTTPS session alive. You just need to install the certificate on your PC to set up the sync, which you can get from OWA.

How?
Will it work without OMA (mobile access)? I don't think so. We don't have a frontend server to support ssl connection from mobile devices, and I'm pretty sure I've tried everything.
If you have a magic way to make it work I would really like to know.
I've been having the same problem...
...and I tried Activesync, but I get a 'certificate' error. I can't figure out how to get the certificate on my device.
I spent days searching the web for an answer... and I gave up after a while.

If you have the .cer file, you just copy it to your device like any other file and run it from there. It should install. I had a few weird cert errors when trying to get mine to work but random poking and prodding seemed to get it up and running eventually.

To be honest, I don't know, I'm not the exchange admin.
My company's fairly tightfisted when it comes to IT expenditure, so I'd be surprised if they forked out anything extra.
A cursory glance at MS's documentation implies that it shouldn't be necessary because as far as the exchange server is concerned, it can't tell the difference between WinMo's client and a regular web browser. I stand to be corrected by someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
Try installing the cert and setting up your server in Active Sync. It should just work.
I had problem in my work getting this working but after a clean install of OWA on our front end server everything worked properly. The only think needed on the X1 was to import the cer file if you going to use Exchange/Active Sync connection as someone has already suggested.
IE and Opera always worked it was just Active Sync which had problems.
I've just recently got an X1 and been trying furiously to get active sync to work. But as I don't have access to the exchange server at work, I've been trying to find out how to obtain a copy of the cert from my outlook.
Haven't been able to find anything, any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Grab the cert from the OWA website, cause it should be SSL encrypted. The browser shows the encryption with a small lock symbol. Click on it an get more information about the cert. When you opened it, open the cert for the CA shown on the last register. In there choose "save to file" and copy it to your phone.
On the phone open the cert with any file explorer, that will import it into the phone's cert store. From now your phone will trust your company internal CA.
This way is only useful, if your company uses self generated certs with an internal CA. You can see this, if your browser at home (the pc there has nothing to do with your company) show an cert warning, if you open the OWA website. If you really can't get acces to this site from the internet, forget all of the above
Brilliant! I'll give that a go when I get home! I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again mcfisch!
I just realised what I did wrong the first time. Under server, I put the wrong address didn't I. However, I've come across another problem, Where it asks for the login credentials, there' username, password and domain, what do I put under domain?
Its all sorted now! I can't believe I was being such a dumbass! I was over complicating things way too much!
Happy days!!!!!!!!
