Hi! I've just upgraded my T-Mobile account and got a shiny new MDA Vario, which is great - but I'm sure I'm going to have one or two questions for the gathered experience of this excellent forum which I've just spend a good deal of time looking through. So far, I've unlocked the unit from T-Mobile, installed some stuff like RegistryWizard, Smartskey and OmapClock, and added a nice big 2Gb memory card for fifty quid thanks to all the helpful topics here.
Now, a few quick questions which I can't seem to find answers for so far. Can anyone help me?
1) Can I set the Calendar to default to starting up in the "Month" view, I can't seem to find a setting that lets me.
2) I'm sure I've seen an option in a menu somewhere to set the unit so that it comes out of standby into the keyboard locked status. At present, when I receive a text message it brings the unit out of standby and activates the buttons and the touchscreen - which if the unit is in my pocket is not an ideal state for it to be in! I've found an option to password lock the device after a set period, which isn't quite what I want, but I can't find that other option again.
3) Can I use Wi-Fi (which I've got working fine to access my home broadband via my router) to access the contents of the shared folders on my Windows XP PC or Notebook, or the contents of a Freecom network harddrive which is connected directly to the router?
4) Sometimes when I wake the device up from standby, Windows Media Player pops up a box saying that it has found a new Memory Card and should it scan for files (the card has not been changed since the unit went to sleep). Is there any way to stop this box popping up?
5) Any thoughts as to what this Today plugin is (below)? It looks really useful to have on the main screen. And suggestions for a daily/hourly updating news/weather tab would be neat too. Is there anywhere special I should look for this kind of thing?

Thanks for that, looks like that might well be worth spending a bit of money on. They do a nice weather plug-in too, which will go nicely with pretty-much unlimited internet access on T-Mobile's new £7.50 tarif, which appears to be coming out next month. (If that's true, I can see a lot of UK users migrating the T-Mobile way)
Anyone else got any comments on my other questions at all?

My Qtek-9100 did the same thing untill I updated its firmware from 1.1.7 to i-mate's 2.16.9. There is no such a message since then.
i know im a noob but i have a few important questions i need to know.
1st. Can you use wifi without the data plan? I bought a unlocked qtek to use on cingular and i was wondering if using the wifi on my home router was free. I really dont want to see a surprise data charge on my bill lol.
2nd. If i bought my qtek unlocked, does that mean it comes already pre registered with the wifi G or do i have to install the cab i found on xda forums to make it G. Thanks again!

Hi ipodlover77 - welcome to the forum. Using wifi as you describe is free. With some of the newer roms it is already set to G, but if you have the same rom as me (see my signature) it will not and then install the cab you found - if you use the one i made it will affect the wifi settings only
oh, then can you please give me the url of the wifi settings you made? will the settings work on a unlocked qtek, used for cingular? thanks. and also, is it possible to stream youtube videos form the site on ur qtek? and finally, (sorry, i always have a lot of questions ) how would i know if im using cingulars data charge on wifi or my own? when i scan for networks on wifi, will it says like "pay"? thanks again for all the help.

Yes the settings will work on an unlocked qtek used for cingular. You should be able to stream youtube videos via your wifi router although only those that suit your screen size will prob work properly.
You should never have to pay to cingular for using your wifi on your home router - to test this you can switch your phone to flight mode (phone radio off) and wifi will still work. The only time you would have to pay for wifi is when you connect to a pay wifi hotspot and then you would have to subscribe to the service first.
so what is the difference between the wlan g tweak and the wireless plugin tweak? and also after downloading the right one, do i just move it to the memory card via usb and open the .cab over the phone? thanks

wlan g tweak - sets wlan to g mode and wireless plugin is a today screen plugin showing operator, bluetooth and wifi status. Yes that is correct way to install

No problem, this forum helps noobs period!
With the registry wizard this can do the g tweak for you, so you wont need my cab if you are going to install registry wizard.
Sorry dont know mms setting for cingular as i am uk - do a search it will be on the forum. What is book up? - do you mean look up? = google.

Try this then - (from coolsmartphone.com) TinyTube.net continues to get better and better. They've now made it even easier to find, send and watch your fave YouTube videos on your mobile. Take, for example, this YouTube video. Notice the URL - it's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCLYGoM1GrU. Now, if you'd like to watch that on your mobile all you need to do is type http://tinytube.net/watch/RCLYGoM1GrU into the address bar. Just copy the "RCLYGoM1GrU" bit and stick it on the end of http://tinytube.net/watch/ - this can then be used or forwarded to any mobile user via text or email as the address to get the video.
TinyTube fill a very important "gap" that other sites such as Google video have already plugged - being able to convert the Flash-based videos into 3GP format for viewing on mobile devices. TinyTube.net have now added an "SMS this video to a friend" feature for the USA with plans to roll out elsewhere soon.

1st) how do i scan the area for wifi connections? I keep trying to look for "search wireless networks" but i cant find the button. I dont know any connection name or ids etc so im trying to find out how to search for wireless networks, quick and easy.
2nd) what is the fastest rom? Im using the updated qtek firmware and it is VERY slow. And i was wondering if there is a rom, that does everything the qtek rom does but alot faster.
3rd) how do i take that fricken vibration when i send a text message? I hate feelings the vibration for only sending a message.

Hey you have set up your own thread for Q's lol. First change your name to Wizardlover77 and we are in business!
If you just turn your wifi on via comm manager it will automatically search for you. Others use wififofum http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1020
Plenty of roms out there - which rom are you using? i.e. the numbers
There is molskis rom that gives you 30mb free ram and farias new 3.2aku rom just to mention a couple. Browse the wizard upgrading for a week or so before deciding to upgrade and you will need to decide if you have a g3 or g4 chip - ipl numbers - .001 = g4
Change your notification settings for messages in settings\sound and notifications not to have vibration.

Sprite is the only app that can restore after a ROM upgrade
ok. So when i turn off my phone, it says some data will lose? which exactly will the device lose?
and also if i turn off my phone. does meschles Wifi G tweak, erase? it says its still installed but are the settings messed up or is it perfectly fine still?

My operator (Orange UK) has decided not to include live messenger in their ROM. Is that something I can install easily afterward? How would I go about doing this? Do I need to app unlock the phone first? I don't have much experience in installing apps on WM6 so any help appreciated.

Hey, i work for Orange and have a touch dual also. Im pretty disapointed that the 'Windows Live' services are missing from the dual, but are present on the Touch.
I was referred by a colleague in the web support call centre that he downloaded the file from a link on this site. (Thats why im here) He found it in the TyTn II forum, but the file is compatible on any Mobile 6 platform... if i find it, i shall post the link for you (if its allowed)

Hey! No worries.. im having problems wading through 178 tyTn II pages... the search feature is utterly useless.
Orange has something called 'Anytime internet' on PAYM. Its £8 per month, and inclused 30MB iirc. When it first launced (back in August) it was unlimited usage upto 1GB.
The Wireless Data Card for Laptops tariffs have just been updated to compete with 3's cheap plans, but i hope the new data plans for handsets happens soon.
Although, i get mine all free
I'm on the £8 a month tarriff, but to be honest 30MB doesn't really cut it compared to Tmobile and 3's tariffs.
Would you mind keeping us posted of when you think these tariffs might be upgraded for handsets? You're lucky you get all yours for free!
Now back to MSN Messenger - i've got a feeling we may not be able to install it even if we wanted to ask the phone might be 'app locked', and as far as I know no ones got a hack for that yet.. or I could be wrong..
I found the application on this forum, just tested it and it works on my Orange Touch Dual!

Right! Iv'e done it!
1. Follow this link HERE and download the Windows Live file to your PC.
2. Connect your device using Active Sync. And use the 'Explore' feature on AC and navigate to you 'My Documents' folder.
3. Disconnect the device and navigate to your documents.
4. Double tap the Windows Live install program. Install the program to your device and its done.
I also added a few other programs from the above link, inc the stand alone Messenger
Go with Fring ! And forget MSN !
www.fring.com voip, multiprotocol messenger and so on...

Hey guys, got a couple of questions quick so any help would be great =)
I know you can set people's contact card pics as their facebook profile pic, i've done this for everyone successfully, just wondering if there is any way to make it auto-update (i have unlim data plan), or a way to update everyone on one click, the only way i can update them now is to go to each individual, open their online albumn, then edit the contact card, and let the new pic download, surely there's a faster way?
Also when i'm viewing a conversation between me and another person (in text messages in HTC Sense), it takes forever to load, and i can't type a message till all of them have loaded, and there's a 160+ for each person so they all load pretty slowly, surely there's a work around so i can type whilst it loads?

ansew to first question myne automatically updates, to the second question www.htc.com have a ROM update to prevent the sms issue
My HD2 came from T-mobile so i can't upgrade the rom can i? =[

im no expert myself, im a newbie. but from experience you go on to htc website choose hd2 and all the updates are there. mynes on t-mobile to cant see that being a problem.

you will be able to download updates, but youwon't be able to download roms from the htc website, it will give you an error when you input your serial.
read through the forum, there are numerous threads about updating rom when you are provider locked.

i have already upgraded the ROM, my phone wasnt directly from t-mobile weather that makes a difference i dont no.

Ah, so if it is vendor unlocked then yes, you should be able to use the htc website. 1.66 i think is the latest.

this forum. (in brief - install hspl will let you install any rom, go hunt and do some reading, then when you understand what you are doing, go for it. )

When I'm downloading updates from HTC's website, it says select location closest to you, should I select europe 1 or 2 (I'm in london)
Doesnt matter, thats just which server sends you the file.

Also my HD2 keeps freezing now, it just slows right down for no reason, sometimes when it'd idle over night, after i've finished from a call, and sometimes out of the random, i keep having to soft-reset but now it's getting ridiculous

Only more than three alarms with 3rd party alarm software (cant recommend, i dont use more than three, sorry)
As for slowdown, first off disable the flip clock when you return to home page, (search for disable manila flip) secondly if wifi is on that can make it sluggish when you wake it from sleep as it reconnects.

I'm thinking about installing a cooked rom, i'm pretty sick of this ****ty t-mobile rom.....phone freezes up constantly, slows down etc.
Will flashing a cooked rom complete wipe everything off the phone, texts, contacts, photos, music, apps etc etc?
so since we cant upgrade our rom yet with this phone can anyone point out what updates to sense or other things that would have been left out of this rom?
The ROM that USTM is running is actually the one we all upgraded to (and from which all current roms are based!) You're pretty set for a while.
I actually never saw the ereader app in the demos of the real US T-Mobile. Can anybody confirm if it's still in there? I know the early releases of the rom had it.
The barnes and nobel ereader is on TMO USA ROM
The Barnes and Nobel e reader app is installed on the Tmobile USA rom, but it is not working yet. It is supposed to get an update on 3/23 and become functional. If you try and use it now it only prompts you to install an update that is not available yet.
Same thing with the mobi tv app. it has a demo channel but
will not come online until Tue 3/23.
From what I'm hearing there are a LOT of folks ready
to get this next Wednesday...I"M ONE OF THEM!!

TMO HTC HD2 multi-language typing
Folks, now the the HTC HD2 is officially coming out on 3/24, i am curious to know if:
1- you can write or text in different languages other than English and switch back and forth like the blackberry. My concern is i am used to switching between French, German and English when i text or write email or chat on my blackberry. Will i be able to do the same with this phone?
2-How easy and simple is it to toggle between screens for example copying and pasting some information from one spreadsheet to another or from one email to another?
3-How easy is it to have your gmail and yahoo acct opened at the same time on this phone?
Like the blackberry, is there a desktop manager for this phone to connect to your pc and manage and backup your files, music and pics?
4-Can you connect this phone to your printer and print pics or docs directly via bluetooth or usb cable?
5- is it easy to connect the phone to the car radio to play music?
6- Can someone please tell me more about Win 6.5? is it good or bad? is it user friendly or not?
8- I have win 7 on my laptop, will this phone be compatible when connecting to it?

MobiTV has been working fine for me using the 30 day free demo with ful channel lineup for the last few days on my TP2.
i got the hd2 today cause im sneaky and on the stock tmo rom i have had lots of freeze ups from sense. i could hit start and get around but sense froze up so i had to soft reset.
while it works its awesome but that has been a bit annoying. even when going into settings and disabling sense and reenabling it the homescreen is still locked up and had to reset again just now
havent tried mobitv but barnes noble is still waiting for the update
id say the the only really annoying thing so far is not having the clock on the taskbar and the battery not showing percentage
question for anyone with tmo.
i just set up my account yesterday and my data is not working properly but i dont want to give customer service a call since i got the phone early. everything works on wifi but on opera when i try to browse over data i get taken to a site saying my plan isnt compatible but i definetly have the unlimited data
Yea your phone probably isnt provisioned right. You would think that if you data plan worked with your old phone it would be the same when you switch, but I think they want to keep tabs on what phone you are using.
Hmm, see we're on a family plan and my mom's contract is up so I was going to use her upgrade and trade her my G1 for the HD2. Will T-Mobile freak?
