Backlight timer resets itself - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Okay, TyTN has developed this very annoying feature turning off the backlight after 10 seconds. If I change the settings to anything else and put the phone to sleep and wake it up, the setting is back to 10 secs. If I uncheck the [ ] Turn off the backlight thingie, that setting will remain even when cycling the sleep/stand by mode.
I've tried to make the adjustment directly from registry, but it's still the same.
Last time this happened, hard reset helped, but I'm not quite ready to do that yet. Any other ideas about what to try?

This worked for me:
a.) Delete the following key entirely - HKCU/ControlPanel/Backlight/LockLevel

Thank you, that hit the spot =).

That key does not exist in all cases - it does not exist on mine. If you do not have it then your problem is elsewhere.
I assume you make the backlight changes the normal way, but after a soft reset they are gone again. Do not sodt reset immediately after making the changes, but long press the on off key until a pop up appears warning that unsaved data will be lost. Tap on yes. Restart with a long press on the on/off button. This procedure unlike an immediate soft reset ensures data is written back to the registry before closing down.

Texting locked in CAPITALS

For some reason, every time I go to write an SMS it is defaulted to be in CAPTIALS and I have to press the shift/cap button twice to get it back to lower case.
It's only just done this today and I can't remember changing anything. Does anyone know how I can change it back to the old setting of being in lower case as default.
Had the same problem once...
Did a soft-reset and everything was back to normal.
OK, will give it a go - thanks
Yeah mine did this, stopped it after i updated the rom which would reboot it to high heaven.
not seen it happen again yet.
I just had this problem.
i had been using the soft keypad and had left the CAPS button on. Soon as I changed it the hard keypad worked properly again

That could have been the problem actually, I remember using the CAPS on the soft pad this morning.
Either way, the soft reset has seemed to have fixed it so it's all good

Keyboard backlight off too quick

Hi guys,
I'm very new to pda's/smartphones 'n stuff, so be gentle.
I have a Touch Dual since few days, and the one thing that irritates me is the keyboard backlight. When typing an sms the lights go off just after 8 seconds or so... That's too fast for me, I still have to get used to having a qwerty keypad on my phone.
to be clear: I don't mean the backlight on the display itself, buy the light beneath the keypad when open.
Is there a registry setting, or a tweak/application that could correct this for me?
Thnx in advance,
Lukas
same problem here...
You could try the most excellent KaiserTweak, I've found most of its tweaks to be compatible with my Nike, haven't tried the backlight though -> http://www.jongma.org/KaiserTweak/
yes try the kaiserTweak. it's under option Keyboard->backlight. The default value is 10 sec. you can up the time to more in the tweak.
Downloaded the tweak app, changed the keyboard setting and a bunch of other interesting settings (because I'm a curious idiot in case someone asks) and now the device kind of hangs on the password screen... I can't unlock anymore.
The device reacts to taps and both screen and keypad input. Also, if I type the wrong password I get the obvious error message. If I type the correct passcode, and tap 'unlock' then nothing happens and after a minute or so the * disappear and I can start over again..
Is this a known bug?
What do I do now? Hard reset? That will wipe out all my settings and files right?
Thnx
Lukas
please help... Hard reset did not help. Device is still unresponsive...
This are the numbers I get when the device is booting:
M 04
B 04
R 1.58.16.27
G 25.61.30.03H
D 1.31
just want to make sure you did your hard reset correctly. how did you do it exactly? the button by the battery after you remove the back cover?
I took this from the manual because from what you described. doesn't sound like you did it correctly. a hard reset should put it back to its factory setting.
Hard reset
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard reset should be performed only if a normal reset does not solve a system problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings -‑ the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile® software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the TALK and END buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the left side of your device.
2. Release the stylus, but continue pressing the TALK and END buttons until you see the following message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press ENTER to restore manufacturer defaults, or press any other button to cancel.
3. Release the TALK and END buttons, and then press ENTER on your device.
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before a hard reset is performed.
Hi Fatlove...
Indeed you're right. And I did read my manual. And I did it EXACTLY like stated in the manual.
This is what I posted in the General forum:
Ok,
This is going to be stupid, but I'll admit to it anyway...
I've read in the manual on how to perform a hard rest. It states to push the send and end buttons, keep the pushed in, and then press the soft reset button until a text appears on the screen. That text states to press "Enter" to continue, and any other key to cancel.
Well, the 'Enter' key to me is the 'enter' key on that qwerty keypad, not the shiny silver button between the Send and End buttons.
To the writer of the manual the enter key on the keypad does not exist.
So that's why a hard reset did not help. Because I did not perform one.
My bad. Anyways, my phone is ok again, sorry for the doublepost.
Grtz
Lukas
Anyways, thnx for the reply, and for the record: the keypad backlight still doesn't work after har reset and re-applying the keiser tweak. Still lit only 8 seconds or so. Does it matter that I copied the Keiser executable to my storage card? It doesn't have to be on the device itself now, does it?
Thnx again.
Lukas
Nope.. kaisertweak is not working for this property (Keyboard backlight)
Anyone
I tried several Registry settings but nothing worked so far.
Anyone else had succes?
Still no solution for this problem?
It's pretty annoying
I tried changing values in the registry as well, but nothing worked. So I'm also interested in a possible solution...
Damn, I hate that light turning off that quick. There must be a solution
I also have been trying a lot of registry settings without solutions
Anybody knows?
I tried this kaiser tweak on my dual and it had no effect. Had to remove it.
kaiser tweak had no effect on my dual either..
qwerty key board
hello i have the htc touch pro and my external keyboard light go's off in about 3 sec does anybody now how to get the time longer
I've the same problem, keyboard backlight stops after about 8 seconds
I tried some register settins and also with Advanced Configuration Tool (Julien Schapman), but no result.
Hope somebody can fix this

When making phone call, the screen got blank

after a few second..
anyway to make the screen remain turn on during phone call?
There is no fault...
So they abuse that you touch anything unintentionally.
Just press the wake up button to use your phone while calling. (On/ Off Button)
The screen going blank is intentional, I think, to save battery. As the phone is at your ear. Yes, just press the green phone button to wake up. It's defaulted in other HTC phones as well.
Someone has a tweak program for this ???
Ive been searching all over to find a solution to this but to no avail. The closest I get is a thread on Diamond (elder brother to Jade) tweak which is not conclusive on this subject.
However this is what I figured out . . . .
There is a sensor (somewhere near the speaker) that blanks the screen the moment you bring your phone to your ear. If you leave your phone face up after pressing call button, the screen remains on, until it senses something come near the phone face. Try covering it with your hand or anything, the screen goes blank. But when you press the 'ON' switch again, it will remain lit. The sensor only works once after first pressing call button.
If after you complete dialling and press call button, if you press the 'speaker' button immediately, the screen will remain on, even if you cover it (the sensor does not work here) or turn off speaker.
So, I put the phone to 'vibrate mode" to indicate when the call is connected (phone options). If you need to use the dial pad for e.g phone banking, then use 'speaker on'.
Anyone else has other findings ?
Maybe this will help..
With the below you can make all the hard buttons to wake up your phone..
Hope that will help someone.
HKCU\Control Panel\Keybd\
and create REG_DWORD "DefaultKeyLock" Value "0"

Brilliant !!! Thanks for sharing.
Is there any way I can make it wake up with just the top (power) button and the round middle button? I don't want the green or red button to wake up the phone because they are raised and may turn on the phone while in my pocket...
Thanks

Well, mine is inconsistent. Sometimes it will turn off sometimes it won't. But mostly it will only turn off once the call is established even if you don't cover the sensor (presume you don't turn on the speaker phone). Can one confirm this or is it I'm having a faulty sensor???

Well, mine is inconsistent too, I mean there is no definitive pattern. I guess it's sensor sensitivy dependant. I'm not really sure how it is set up. So I rely much on the vibrate mode, on press the ON button again, if still curious about the call status.
I have tried to create the registery key for the any key wake instead of the power key only
"DefaultKeyLock" Value "0"
The problem is after i soft reset the registery key is simply gone (i.e. gone, deleted ....)
any ideas?

Not sure why it happened. But you can always add the reg key "DefaultKeyLock" if it's not there.

Does this sensor really exist on the Jade? I did not find any sensor-function, the display vanishes after a few seconds with and without covering by hand if you do not activate the hands-free-mode.

I tried this - its a great idea and works well.... a little too well because when I pop the phone in my pocket sometimes a key gets accidentally pressed, the phone wakes and anything can happen & did like making an unintentinal call or the voice commander activating. So in my case I had to switch it off.
shame - i liked it apart from that. Could the registry be tweaked to set just one other button thats least likely to get accidentally pressed? I'm thinking the enter button perhaps because its recessed . I can see that others have asked for this as well but nothing available yet ?
thanks

Number lock on this phone?? Help

Sorry but this could be a noob question so please bear with me.
So I woke up this morning, ready to send a text message using the slide out keyboard, I noticed even WITHOUT the Function (blue button) active I get numbers instead of letters. Funny thing is, I thought my Function button was malfunctioning but it's not because ONLY the numbers will come out. Others such as the &, -, *, all come out as regular letters. So I believe there is some sort of number lock I pressed by accident. I've been using this keyboard for almost 3 months now so please don't say double check with the blue button. IT'S NOT for sure.
Please help guys, thanks.
Also, incase you're wondering, I've resetted the phone a couple times already, and still have the same issue. I really hope I don't need to go through a hard reset.
bump, no one has an answer?
it is the blue button! lol... you pressed it twice, 2 times make it lock onto Num lock

No its not. There is no Fn sign at all next to the keyboard icon. Besides, ONLY the NUMBERS are showing up. I can't explain how the other brackets, asterisks, #, doesnt show up.

did you try a soft reset?
if didn't work, try opening the SIP Keyboard, there might be an option there to enable numlock (it might not be visible clear that it's enabled)
i got a similar problem with the CTRL key always pressed
pressing it in SIP and closing it then restarting the phone did work.
even though, you can try going for a hard reset.
please let us know how it goes
cheers
mine is doing ths same thing.. pissin me off
did the same to be for a bit i remember - dunno how i got over it - wasnt a hard reset though - prolly just a restart

Backlight Issue

I have recently had to hard reset my phone and for some reason the backlight only stays on for a matter of seconds. Can someone point me in the right direction of increasing this please. I do have Xperia Tweak installed and can't see the setting on that either.

Try settings, system, power, advanced and then change the time out for backlight there...
remove HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\ACTimeout & BatteryTimeout

hmm thats odd as when I change the setting and then tap ok in the top right corner it saves it for me and retains the setting no problem...
I think it has managed to save the settings now... Cheers
