Magic Button problem - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I installed Magic Button, as it seems to be quite highly thought of in these parts, and have discovered a problem. I am curious as to whether anyone else has had the same, and found a fix.
I use the standard phone tool that came with the o2 XDA. When MB was installed, pressing the OK button in the top right of the phone dialler screen would just bring up the speed dials, not close the phone. Pressing the X in the top right of the speed dials list brings the dialler back. So I go in circles...
Uninstalling MB and a soft reset seems to have sorted it, but I did like having MB on there. Any ideas?

Basically, you just want the phone icon at the top bar to disappear when you close the phone, right?
Solution is tap and hold the phone icon, a menu will appear, select hide the icon.

Back Button Questions...

Ok...
On my last WM phone, the Motorola Q9c I was able to use the back button to go back to what every program I was using previously.
So, for example if I was in Opera and hit the Home button to go WM home screen, I could then press the back button and go right back to opera.
That's not the case on the Snap for me... anyone know of a hack/setting or something that will allow this?
It works for me... if i press the back button it goes the the screen/program i previously had opened

Seriously? The back button is the one under the right soft key right?
So, if you are in say GoogleMaps and your phone either goes idle to the home screen and you hit that back button it takes you back to google maps?
Yes, just tested your google maps example seeing i never use that, but when i use the back button (the one left of the power/call end button) it goes from the home screen back to google maps.
Maybe it's a setting somewhere?
it works for me as well, seems like ur the only one here with that issue.
sorry man..only thing i can think of is possibly trying to uninstall and re-install ur new apps and see what that does..maybe even hardreset!
how do u hard-reset the Snap?
I can't get this to happen either. The home screen stays put.
to hardreset :
start > system tools > clear storage
at that point u should be prompted to enter "1234" to set the device back to its factory settings, basically out of box.
Even after a hard reset i am still having this problem.
It's really annoying... anyone have any idea/setting/regsitry hack?

L/R Menu buttons disappearing , replaced with KB

ok, this is quite irritating and i wondered whether users here experienced the same problem.
basically happens in the home screen( most of the time) or in some other apps (seldom).
Instead of the manilla button on the left and the Menu button on the right, sometimes it will disappear and will be replaced by the keyboard button in the center.
The only way to get my left and right buttons are to soft reset / pressing the "about" in keyboard.
I sometimes experience this for unknown reasons. to work around it I press the windows button and then the home button (hard keys) and then the soft keys return. if in another application then exit and reload app. I'm running o2 stock rom 1.43 (uk).
Yeah I get this too. I think it's something to do with an app I've installed. I either drop down Dutty's Task Manager and pull it back up, which refreshes the screen, or you can press the start tab and then go back to the home screen and it should be fine. I don't think you need a soft reset, at least I don't.

i think it has to do with dutty's or touch X task manager. installing those made this happened. or maybe its a coincidence?

[REF] Hidden features of the Galaxy S

Just thought I'd share this one I found.
If you hold down the "home" button for about a second you get an easy task switcher to any app that was running in the background. It's faster than hitting back till you get to the menu or getting to the menu and then finding the app you are after .
Sliding your finger across the notification window just as it drops down changes the brightness of the screen.
Any others that people have found?
You can add shortcuts to phone numbers and messages on the home screen by holding your finger down and selecting shortcuts on the home screen somewhere. This also appears to work with a lot of apps, like kindle shortcuts to a specific book.
All android phones do this, Holding the Home button is a standard android way to "Switch fast" between apps
A few things I found out reading the SGS forum here:
1. You can control the brightness by sliding your finger left to right when pulling down the notification bar. Just keep your finger on the edge of the pull down window.
2. You can have the SGS announce the title/artist of a song from the Music player by pressing and holding the Up Volume button while a song is playing.
3. You can "lock screen" while watching video by pressing Power Button while a video is playing. This is great at preventing unintended clicks while holding the phone watching a video.

I know the third one, but didn't know the first two. Thank you tenshi, for sharing.
However, I don't quite understand how exactly you can change the brightness in the day you described, cos I can't seem to do it.
Also, I got the feeling that to effect number 2, there is a monthly subscription that I need to pay to Optus. They gave me a 7 day free trial before continuing, and I did not continue.
eaglesteve, for #1, make sure auto-brightness is off in your display settings, now when you slide the notification bar panel down try sliding your finger left to right and you'll notice the display brightness change.
for #2, I don't think its connected to your provider as it doesn't even need a data connection to work, it's just using text to speech. You might have to enable or download it the first time.

My auto-brightness is already off, but I still can't seem to change the brightness when sliding from left to right or right to left while pulling down the notification curtain. Any other clue?
For 2, you're right, once I downloaded the voice synthesising software from the market place, it works. I need to make sure the music player is in the foreground for this to work, right?

Technically it's a "most recently used" list rather than a list of apps running in the background. For example if you have just exited a navigation app, or killed an app from a process manager, it will still appear in this list.
Interesting thread.
I just want to add some "shortcuts" I discovered myself using the Galaxy (maybe they aren't so hidden. I am a lousy user, don't like to read manuals. So maybe they are very obvious )
Close pull down window/curtain, close desktop layer folders and close keyboard by tapping back key
Access to the bookmark button and address bar in the brower by tapping the menu button (no need to scroll all the way up)
Open soft D-Pad by tap-and-hold the "?123" key on the standard Samsung Keyboard
Quick and reliable GPS reception by editing the ntp server in the gps.conf file
Someone I only just learnt...
Pressing and holding the power button performs a reset. (Keep pressing it after you get the shut down/mute/airplane options and the phone will suddenly restart. Have to keep the button pressed for 5 secs atleast).

If you´re in "contacts"
slide to the right for an instant call or slide to the left for messaging the contact

cool, this is handy when you're driving
i usually double tap the contact, but if your car goes over a bump or pot hole, then the 2nd tap is missed, and wont work.

SWEET, this is a great way to dial and text people from contacts
Thx for the info
1. Browsing in the Gallery
When browsing your large list of photo's in the 'Gallery', click the icon on the right to group them into date taken ~ makes browsing much more manageable.
2. Locking the Camera
If you wish to leave the camera on but worried you may accidentally touch the scrren/controls you can lock the camera.
Once you have the camera set up how you want it, simply briefly press the Power button. You will then see a white padlock appear on screen. Now you can hold the camera and phone how you like until you are ready to shoot.... When ready again briefly press the Power button, the padlock disappears and you can take your shoot/video.

Nah, it's samsung's replacement for the search button that's a Google requirement. They don't have a button for it, so they assigned long-press menu for search, whereas on the Nexus One, it'll make force the soft-'board to come up.
yes it works...

At first it didn't worked for me also, because I understand bad.
Not pulling down. Go to the upper of the screen, press till the botton of the dropdown curtain appears, but don't slide it down. Once that appears the BAR move left or right your finger, and it will adjust.

Ah yes, I got it to work too. The trick is not to pull it down but just to make the curtain barely appear before you slide.
Thanks for your excellent explanation.

I'm using the desire build 5.7 with cotulla's new zimage.
i've searched High and low to see if someone has posted it already and couldn't find a solution.
I have had a similar issue with trying to use android.
I have a euro hd2 with 2_12_50_02_2, using chucky gtx rom, installed following task 29.
The rom seems to work well in windows with the problem of non-functioning hard key buttons in the WINMO also. It seems impossible to assign functions to the hard keys via the windows settings - only the send key option is displayed. The send key (green) button works fine for bringing up the dial pad and the end key (red) works fine also. The start button appropriately brings up the windows menu in this rom, though i have noticed that it does not work on other roms. Currently my home key and back key do not appear to do anything in the WINMO under chucky gtx rom!!
This presents no problems in WINMO as htc sense is easily navigated use touchscreen only and to be honest i never even touch the hard keys. However, this presents a massive problem in ANDROID - the android becomes impossible to navigate as I cannot ever go back or use the home key to get to the main screen. This is the same in sense or launcher mode.
I am using a clean fat 32 4gb class 2 micro sd, desire build v 5.7 from gamesquare and tried all the latest zimage files from cotulla and others but always the same problem. the send key is working fine but then i cannot get out of the dial pad. pressing the end key puts the sense in lock and screen off and i can long press this to power down but if i unlock then i am just stuck at dialpad or where ever i was when i locked. the windows key seems to bring up context menu fine and long press brings up key board in android. The home button does seem to wake from sleep sometimes i think, back button does not seem to work at all.
I have tried changing the rootcfs as well but this did not do anything. I had the same problem on FROYO build so im guessing it might not be an android problem. I am using JMZ dual boot on new rom installs without any other programs on windows or anything else other than android on the microsd.
I have not tried any stock roms to see if they solve the button issue in WINMO but cant really understand why they dont work so well in ANDROID or are they linked as android is ontop of windows?
Ihave found a workaround by installing "soft home key" app from market place which is helpful. but still looking for a fix. All very frustrating!!!
Searched everywhere on xda for answers to no avail. even googling for days!!!
PLEASE HELP. I think im not alone if above post is anything to go by
seem to have the same problem myself.
a short press of the windows button goes home, a long press brings up the recent apps; not the menu.
same issue here
i looked at the files located under /system/usr/keylayout and they all indicated that the correct functions were assigned to the correct keys
anyone else have any ideas?
Just remove the Android file from SD, then reload. Done. These builds are not complete yet. Crap is bound to go wrong.
i think the word we are looking for ..is.........beta
can be closed
I had the same problem...The home button on my rooted Nook Color stopped working. I finally stumbled on the answer. I double clicked the home button and it brought up settings. The home button was set to softkeys instead of home. Just change it and it works again.
