Solution for those who messed up their SD Cards. - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

To begin with, I recently messed up my 4GB SD Card. Why? I was not paying attention on details when I was reformating the SD Card. The end result was my 4GB SD Card turned into a 1GB SD Card. I was not worried for my SD Card has life time warranty, so my ultimate solution would be to just have it exchanged. But being a very curious dude, I started experimenting for a solution and found one.
OBSERVATIONS:
1st: AKU2 ROMs prefer SD Cards with FAT format. Thus, you can use 4GB SD Cards without any problem.
2nd: AKU3 ROMs can use both SD Cards with either FAT or FAT32 format. But I would still STICK WITH THE FAT FORMAT.
SOLUTION TO MY ENCOUNTERED PROBLEM: (You think a simple reformat will solve it using the menu under "My Computer" using a card reader, it did not work on mine.) So here are the steps on what will work:
1st: You need WM5torage installed to your Universal's Internal Memory. I'll attach a copy at the end of this post.
2nd: You need your Universal.
3rd: Place the troubled SD Card to your Universal's SD Card slot.
4th: Make sure in WM5torage, both "Read Only" and "Removable Class" is UNTICKED.
5th: Activate WM5torage.
6th: Connect your Universal via USB.
7th: From this point on, all the steps below will be done on your computer.
8th: Wait for "My Computer" to show the presence of the SD Card.
9th: Go to Start>Control Panel>Performance & Maintenance>Administrative Tools>Computer mangement.
10th: Click on Disk Management.
11th: Scroll and highlight the drive you want to repair or format.
12th: Right click on selected drive and select FORMAT.
13th: You can rename the volume label if you wish.
14th: Make sure file system is FAT format.
15th: Allocation unit size is DEFAULT.
16th: Check the box for QUICK FORMAT.
17th: Select OK.
There you go. I now got back my full 4GB SD Card and fully operational on my Universal. Wheeeeeeewwww!

You might want to replace steps 8 to 11 with the following
7th: Wait for "My Computer" to show the presence of the SD Card.
8th: From this point on, all the steps below will be done on your computer.
12th: Right click SD Card and select FORMAT.

SD Card issue
Great work,
I don't have this issue, but it is always nice to keep in mind
Thanks,
Leo

will this work with a card that is no longer recognised (doesnt think there a card there) due to a format error?

YES, tried this too with my very old 2GB card that I screwed up long ago and thought it was gone for good. Plus, it won't hurt to try.

SD problem!!

My Jam can't read my card!!
The information can be found, and the files/folders inside of the SD can be found..But it doesn't show up..I need to go to the finding thing and then it comes up as a list..Not a folder saying "SD"..
Anybody have a clue why it does that?
I've seen this problem before with a Ridata 1GB SD card. The data and structure on the card become corrupt. I've been able to fix this by backing up whatever is on the card (whatever is salvagable) and then doing a reformat of the card. If it won't let you reformat on the ppc, try doing it first on a regular pc with an SD card slot.

Hmm..Good idea, thanks.

S100: Cannot see SD-card???

Hi. I've just started to experience some problems regarding my Qtek S100. It cannot read my SD cards.
I get this message: "Do you want to try to format the storage card to make it readable? This will permanently delete any files on the card".
If I click yes, is says that the card has been formattet ok, but I still can't see it in File Explorer.
I've tried using 512 mb card, 1 gb card and a 2 gb card - same result.
Any ideas? Is there any obvious solutions to this?
Regards
Malke
I had the same problem with my MDA Compact. There are a couple of things you can try. First off, some units had a shoddy sd slot, so try wedging a bit of cardboard in there with yout sd card (at the front), it helps with connection. Also, my pda decided to format the sd card poorly, and partitioned it for me, then wouldn't use it. It took me ten months to solve that problem, but I eventually figured it out; download HP USB Format utility (i'd supply the URL, but can't find the exact one I used - this should at least point you in the right direction), and that'll automatically format the SD to its full capacity.

Mini SD Not Being Recognized

My mini sd card isn't being seen by my phone. I plug it in and go to file explorer but I can never get to it. It appeared once but disappeared. It's only 512mb too. =(
Bump for the same issue. I'm on Core's 2.0 ROM using 1GB Kingston Micro SD w/a miniSD adapter.
My computer can read the card but the phone can't.

Try reformatting it on the pc - i prefer fat32 but try fat16 if that does not work.
Did you format the card with your computer? I had that problem with my card and had to find a way to remove the formatting that the computer did. I found the answer to my problem on the Cingular website.
Insert your card into your card reader. Right click "My Computer" and click on "Manage". Then left click "Disk Management", find your card and delete the partition. At this point, you can then stick the card into the phone and it will ask if you would like to format the card. Even though the computer will not recognize the card, your phone will.
I don't know the circumstances of what caused the problem, but if you did what I did, then the above helped me salvage a perfectly good (and new) miniSD card.

Similar to what i have done to resurrect some cards when all seems lost.
Goto control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disk management.
Now attach card to pc via card reader or wm5torage and with luck it will appear on the list of drives - now format or do as curious d described.

I stuck it in my phone first then I decided to put files on it. There was a temp folder on it (presumably from the phone, so I'm guessing it read on its first attempt). Then I deleted the temp folder (probably shouldn't have) and put my files on it. After that my phone wouldn't read it any more. The computer could and my old SX66 could as well.
I opened disk management and it won't let me delete the partition. Partition Magic won't either because I'm guessing it doesn't see removable drives. I formatted it again and I'm still out of luck.
Thanks for the tips guys.
I've got a Kingston 2GB microSD in a miniSD adapter. At first, it would not recognize it at all...after many insertions/resets/powering off&on. Took the advice to reformat it to FAT32 on my PC then reinserted it. Still no go. Soft resetted it and bingo, it worked. I then removed it to transfer my files from my 1GB miniSD, reinserted and then it wouldn't see it. Removed, reinserted. Still no go. After soft-reset, it finally worked.
I know that my phone does have an issue with recognizing an inserted miniSD...sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. Usually by inserting it firmly it would work. But maybe the microSD makes it even more flaky.
In short, I think the FAT32 format and the soft-reset makes it work...presuming you can get your phone to physically recognize it.

Should I be able to format my MicroSD card?

I don't see an option to do so in settings.

Not that i'm aware of.. you'll have to use a PC and format it to fat32.
The external sd support on honeycomb is appalling. It's almost as if google weren't expecting manufacturers to include external sd slots on their devices. I get no notification when I insert my sd, no options to format or safely remove either. Even my Nokia (and I hate Symbian) can do these things. Also haven't seen any news about this support being added in 3.1.
Have you been able to format your SD Card yet? One thing I can tell you I dont like is that the system is reading the internal memory as SD Card. So all the apps you use like titanium and SD card Tools to test the speed error out. They really need to fix that. As far as your card goes if you havent.
With Windows insert card right click on it and click format and select fat32.
With mac Use Disk utility and format through there and also select fat32.
A lot of SD card manufactures are not intializing the cards which is why if it is brand new needs to be put in your PC. At the current moment there is no partition table which is why the tablet can not read it.
tablet can read it as it's an old one I had. I just wanted to format it without having to pull it

Help.

I burned an image of touch nooter on a kingston 4gb micro sdcard using Win32image. I right clicked the drive of the card on Win7 and did a full and quick format to erase the image. When I wiped out the touchnooter image from the card, it gave me a space of only 76mb and not the whole 4gb default space.
Any suggestions oh how to get the full 4gb storage back?
Start - Run - diskmgmt.msc
Find your SD card there (Removable G: for example)
You will see it has 2 or more partitions.
Delete all partitions and then create new Simple volume from one big unallocated space you got and format it to FAT32.
Make sure you are deleting partitions of your SD card or you can kill all your data and system.

I went to disk management but I could only see one partition for the card.
You can use an android device to format the card back to normal. If the nook touch is the only android device you have do this.
Put the sd card in the nook touch
tap the n button on bottom
tap 'settings'
tap 'Device Info'
tap 'SD Card'
tap 'Unmount SD Card', if it is available
tap 'Format SD Card' when it is available
after it does it make sure unmount SD card is not highlighted then you can pull the SD card back out.
You can use SDFormatter for windows to fix your SD card and get the total space visible again.
Cheers

This method worked. Great guideline. Thanks.
I tried SDFormatter too but no go.
I had the same problem after rooting but I solved it by using SDFormatter in Windows (version: SDFormatterv3.0.zip ).
Formar the sd card with the nook
