bluetooth remote control - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

hi! before my tytn i had nokia smartphone and i had program for bluetooth remote control. (control freak) now i have tytn, but i can't find good program. i need program, that controls winamp quickly and smooth. there are many winamp plugins, but they are very, very buggy and connects 1 per million. my old control freak connects for 2 seconds, the connection in strong and it had desktop control (the desktop screen appeared on my nokia)
so please i need such a program for partys and for comfort.
10x, very much!

I'm looking for something similar...
(on my Nokia, I was using Puppetmaster; but while there are .jar and ppc clients, I can't get them to work)
Jörg

I'll publish a BIG roundup on all these questions very soon (as did I with "full" remote control solutions - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1092389 ) - stay tuned

Oh my, i loved control freak. It's an excellent prog with sexy GUIs. right now i'm using RemoteAmp for my PPC, not bad but it runs over wifi. Or you could run it over EDGE/GPRS/3G. Overall it's great, it GUI isn't that sexy, but it's workable.

Puppetmaster allowed one to control different programs (WinAmp, Zoom Player, Media Player, Powerpoint, Acrobat, ...) and allowed one to add scripts to get support for other non-natively supported softwares.
I'm currently actually still using my old Nokia as a remote (I kept it as a backup device)...
Jörg

PuppetMaster is great ("fantastic" is the word ), but I wish the developer would continue the development...
Perhaps this is an option:

Anybody found a good application that works well as a bluetooth remote control for Windows Media Player or winamp or divx?

I use Salling Clicker, it does pretty much all you ask but unfortunately it's not free.

Jaylee1024,
Up till now, I haven't been able to test your software, as I'm using a Widcomm stack on my PC's...
I'm about to reinstall my system, and before installing Widcomm, I'll give your software a test (given the bluetooth features I use, the MS stack may suffice for me).
But I have found a software (Altiris SVS) that might be used to allow switching between both bluetooth stacks, so I'll also see if/how that goes...
Jörg

I use PPC tablet. It is not that good looking but easy to use. You have different profiles for different programms and you can make your own profile realy easy.

Thanks VJ, I've had reports that some latest version of the Widcomm stack might do the trick, but if you could keep me posted on your tests, I'd be interested too
Thanks !

I second this. I've used it on my 7610, 6682 and now my 8525. It's fantastic. Plus you can control with either bluetooth or wifi

Apparently, that utility can't really be used to swap bluetooth stacks. But I now have the weird situation where both WidComm and MS Bluetooth stack are active at the same time . I'm not sure what this is doing to the stability of my system though , or if both effectively work, so I'll need to test some things first.

Hi again,
I have in stalled the latest Salling CLicker 3.0.1.347, but when prompted to setup my device i am unsure which to choose. The choices are:- http://www.salling.com/Clicker/windows/devices.php
I have tried WM5/Smartphone and a few Dopod ones (I have a Dopod 838Pro) and when I open Salling Clicker on the phone i get "Fatal Error Service Unavailable most likely cause is incompatible device or faulty installation".
Has anybody successfully set it up?
Cheers, hawsktf

Handset requires rebooting after installing Salling Clicker... It's all good

Also, don't forget to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294524 - it's the long-promised roundup.

Does anybody out there have, or know where to find some Salling Clicker scripts for Hermes?

***Bluetooth and IR Remotes***

I may be completely off my rocker here but is there a way to use the Bluetooth or IR on my wizard to control lets say... windows media player on my computer? Or change channels on a tv?
Are there any programs out there that are written for this kind of application? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have an old PDA iPAQ with no phone capability but it had an app
called NEVO which controlled anything IR like TVs and DVD players
but I've not seen anything yet on an xda.
I'll keep my eyes open.
Call for Wizard IR Remote software!
You might be thinking of NoviiRemote from Novii http://novii.tv
So far their product does not support the Wizard despite repeated attempts (from multiple wizard owners) to get an idea of when it will... they keep saying "they're working on it" but have been saying that since Oct. 2005.
FWIW, I've tested the following competing "universal remote" applications and couldn't get any to work on the Wizard:
- Vivo Remote
- Universal RemoteCE
- UltraMote
- Total Remote (locked the Wizard... had to remove battery)
- Remote Control II (big time failure, couldn't find images)
- TV remote controller (says no Wizard support on homepage)
- NoviiRemote =(
Each were installed to Storage Card (1 at a time). All of them didn't seem find the IR hardware, with error codes varying from non-existent to not even running / crashing. Nearly all the apps would not uninstall cleanly (running WM5 v1.6.8 WWE) had to manually remove.
Clearly there is an opportunity for someone here... there is no competition on Wizards, all this someone has to do is support the OMAP hardware and Wizard users will come running.
Any takers? =)
No he's thinking of NEVO (http://www.mynevo.com/), I too have NEVO bundled on my HP IPaq RX3715 and it's a very slick program, it used to be that you could only get it bundled but I believe they're starting to sell it as a stand alone product now.
The problem with this remote software is that to use it effectively you have to make sure that the IR type built into your device is cIR rather than the more common sIR etc as they have pretty drastic differences in their ranges. So you can get software but if you have sIR then you'll need to be on top of the TV to change the channel.

there is a beta version of novii remote that works on the wizard, its available in there forum.
range is over 2 meters which isn't too bad. i'll post a link if I can find it

edit: heres the link http://www.novii.tv/up/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2667
Yes Novii does indeed work but dont expect the same kind of response as an ipaq. They are fitted with commercial grade ir which works more like a normal remote. The wizard ir has to be lined up directly with the ir receiver.
Its much quicker to get up and change the channel
true but it is fun to turn the sound up on tv's on display in shop windows or inside stores

I've been lookng for something similar too. Here's the ultimate program for just that. I've used it before for my Palm 650 and didn't realize they made it for PPC as well.
I've just made buttons for WMP and it works like a charm. Connects through IR, Serial port, or WIFI so there's no distance problem. Pebbles program lets you control your computer or programs running on your computer. Try it out, its free and probably one of the best programs that you can configure everything on your own!

As wilesd mentioned, there is a free version, you just have to hunt for it. I use LogMeIn remote, and paid $1000 for 25 clients, but that's less than half the price of the best price I was quoted for GoToMyPC for an equivalent set of user licenses. GoToMyPC is the only other GUI software I found that works, but the WM5 version of LogMeIn is faster than GoToMyPC.
You could easily control WMP or winamp remotely, although logging in to do so will take a few minutes. I'm not sure if this is a solution that would work for you, as it is an IP-based solution... not exactly the kind of 'remote' in which you seem interested.
remoteamp
i use remoteamp, its a nice prog and it controlls Winamp and Media player via Wifi. and you can see al the files on you PDA for scrolling and so.
good app.

Wizard as a Vista Sideshow device?

You'd think it would be built in, but does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Wizard as a Windows Sideshow device in Vista? I got a horizontal dock for this thing just so I'd be able to run a gadget or two on it, but I'm surprised they didn't have it working out of the box ... with the popularity of the Wizard at Microsoft.
A quick search on google shows that there is quite a lot of interest for this.
IMO, it is almost certain this functionality will be added to Windows Mobile devices; lets just hope they don't limit it to WM6 devices.

Sideshow is a technology included with Windows Vista that allows for an external LCD to display widgets, even with the PC powered off. This allows you to see at a glance the weather, if you have e-mail, etc. It's primary use is in tiny LCDs on notebook covers, though if you could use your mobile for this, that would be really neat too.
MS is working on an app that does work on the Wizard, I have used a beta. It was very bugy but it worked.
How about this:
http://www.innobec.com/en/products.php
It adds a virtual display driver to your Windows (XP); this display is an activesync-connected PDA.
I have tried the trial version, and it appears to work (allthough a bit unstable, but I was using a bluetooth connection at the time).

looks like they might be scrapping the development of this because of the similar features in vista.

I wasn't crapping on it, I think it looks cool. I wish it worked for me. I would rather have WM6 than a 320x240 extension to my desktop though. I already have a dual monitor setup.
Sidewindow can be alternative of sideshow but you have to run samurize plugins on that display to look like sideshow. Microsoft states that mobile devices can be used as sideshow with vista, i have tryed many ways and i have no success with this task
I saw one of the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on their website presenting the sideshow feature and one of the devices among the usual picture frames and things was actually a Smartphone, it looks like in house at microsoft they have done it but jsut not yet for us. EDIT: See http://download.microsoft.com/downl...56b-d47a59388df0/pdc_2005_auxilarydisplay.ppt
Just came across this:
http://www.zoneos.com/index.htm
It works with ActiveSync 4.5 and with WM5 (even though the ppc executable only states 2003). Functionality is the same as the innobec software: it adds a virtual display driver.

Works on WiFi with Server 2003 and WM6 as the client. Very cool, not very usefull but very cool.
Could someone post the Pocket PC and Windows Vista files for ZoneScreen? Unfortunately, the author has removed all the files from his site in favor of the open source release (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zonescreen/) which only has the files for Windows XP.
Best uses for Sideshow
The best usage of this will be with remote controls for Media Center PC's. You'll be able to sit outside on the porch and browse your music files or other media without needing to see the TV screen. This way you can have speakers outside and you can play whatever music you want. Added functionality will be when they finally make the app for windows mobile devices so that you won't even need a third party remote. With 3G devices such as the Hermes (8525) you won't even need to connect via wifi or bluetooth. You'll see all your album art, receive feedback of "now playing" items, etc. It will turn your pda into an expensive 2-way touchpanel such as Crestron, AMX, or ELAN offer. I say screw the laptops. Check out this link and then imagine that on your PDA.
<http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/21/ricavisions-vista-mce-sideshow-remote-does-bluetooth-at-100-met/>
All those complaining about why it doesn't work on vista:
You need ActiveSync for this application which has been replaced with Mobile Device User Center, so it doesn't work. I hope there's an update on the way to make it work, because in partnership with konfabulator widgets, it's incredible. It had it built in a case, and it displayed all the systems specs via widgets.

On a lot of WM devices, you have to uncheck the "Receive all incoming beams" on the Settings/Beam screen? Try that? On some others the IrDA port is shared with another function and you may have to disable that function temporarily e.g. WiFi.
Also if this "free" software is a version of NoviiRemote, then there is a setting on the program for choosing the infrared port. I have found that using the AutoDetect did not work on some of my devices. Manually try each of the port settings. If this version is special to the device for which it was free, then there may be no setting function provided i.e. it is set to the port for that specific device and it is different port number to your HTC 6800.

A small up
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had found a soft working on WM devices (I don't know if mine has an IR, it's an HTC Touch Pro 2), and free of charge, of course
And, as the initial author says, I'm in the same case as him, I haven't really $30 to spend...
From what ive gathered/read these are just about useless as you have to be like no more than a foot or two away from the tv for them to work. the infared port is not near as strong as a regular tv remote

This is not a universal truth. The power of the IR transmitter built into the device is the deciding factor. I had kept two HP Jornada's going since they had a very powerful signal and could successfully work all devices, even by bouncing off walls of the room. This was somewhat special.
I currently have two FS Loox N560s (WM6.1 but no longer made) which also work well, but the beam is not as powerful or focused as the Jornada. But both FS and HP devices can operate all my equipment (using either NoviiRemote or PDAWin, I believe that both still available but paid for!) at 10-15 feet.
The biggest problem is that the new generation of WM devices just don't have IR ports any more. This seems to be because the demand has not been great from consumers, but also the devices are packed to roof with GPS, phone functionality, cameras etc. So something has had to be left out! Shame. I am stuck with old technology partly because it provides universal remote control capability!
Ah those new technologies...
OK, thanks.
Actually, that's what I expected... When you think all the things our new mobiles can do, you think they can do everything (I still expect the new feature that will feed me and be able to bring me some fresh beer when I need it !), thanks ooxteme.
That's a shame but, as you said, fingerstoo, when you put more and more things ON them, you can think they get rid of some of them.
But it's not really that important isn't it ?
Thanks anyway to both of you for these answers.
In my HP ipaq 6815 works fine, thanx
Thanks!!!!

I had one BenQ P50 WM2003 PPC which had a universal remote control application factory installed and had a very powerful irda port by which i could control devices even from the reflection of wall/celieng etc. I had copied the entire folder from the Cdrive where a file
nameled recon.exe along with some associated files were there I shall try to upload the entire folder in rar format. once I get it! It should be safe somewhere inside a hard disc but I'm unable to recall where did i store it as I've suffered from a severe BP Stroke on july 16th last year! I am still searching for it in all my harddiscs. it is worth mentioning that, Novii remote also worked fine with my BenQP50 despite the factory installed software being there and. after copying the entire folder to a HTC PPC running in WM5 with IRDA port worked fine though I do not remember the model number.

By the way, comparing the K800i to the Xperia is like comparing apples and pears
Just tried Mobileremote - seems to be a bit screwy landscape/portrait are reversed and the hardware keyboard has permanent numlock on when used on X1
still just about usable though
You're right... but on my old K800i BT HID protocol worked for free... and perfectly well ..

Coming to Windows Mobile after being a longstanding Sony Ericsson feature phone user, it's really surprised me how truly COMPLETE the SE ui was! It had SO many great tools built right in that Windows Mobile even struggles with, and it's a smartphone OS! I could be happy if they just made the SE A200 interface touch-enabled (a nice qwerty maybe ), because I miss so many nicely implemented features they had!
i would suggest using this:

it's free and it let's you control most media applications and what's cool about is it that it allows you to use the x1 touchscreen as a touchpad of a notebook computer to control the mouse pointer and tap to left click. unfortunately it cannot right-click. it doesn't accurately input the proper characters either while using the physical keyboard, but the onscreen keyboard works just fine with it.

Bluetooth Media Remote Control??

I know there are more than a few threads about this specific topic, but most of them are outdated, and none fits this purpose.
I have an WM 6.5 updated Rhodium, which I would like to use as an multimedia remote for my Windows 7 PC....
What I want in a remote control
Uses touchscreen (and possibly g-sensor)
Can control WMP, VLC, PowerPoint, and maybe Media Center
Uses bluetooth
As far as possible, a touch-friendly interface
Tried Programs

Great remote, used it alot on my old TyTN II.... but! It doesen't support the touchscreen, which means you have to use the keyboard every time... If this app had proper touchscreen support, it would be perfect. Unfortunately the last update is from March 2008, and it doesen't seem he updates anymore...

Seems cool, especially the thing about using g-sensor for joystick. Unfortunately, the installation doesn't work for me. I do not know if it is Windows 7, my phone (didn't work on 6.1 either), or the program itself that is malfunctioning. I cannot get proper connection, and the client is stalling... alot.
Are there any other alternatives?
