Yeah...read it too... how absurd...
Leaves me a bad taste in the mouth...

I agree is a bad taste...
I hope this service/support will be implemented in the next future, after all HTC has started now to commercialize directly his products without other partners (like i-mate for example) that are already structured for that.
Let's hope togheter ;-)

Where can I find official HTC ROM updates?

Goodmorning,
Does someone know where I can download official HTC released ROM files? HTC doesn't publish their ROM images on a own FTP server, but referes to the operator sites. I bought my P3300 in the Netherlands (www.misco.nl), but my device isn't (apparently) imported trough the official Dutch importer (www.smartmobility.nl). Smart
Mobility doens't have my IMEI number in their database, with the result that I can't access the ROM-updates. Does someone know the official UK HTC importer, where I can try to check for ROM-updates? I suppose they will recognise my IMEI-number...
I can't understand why HTC distributes their ROM update so laborious. It would be much easier I they would publish it on www.htc.com. Is is easy, one central point for all customers and users are always 100% sure that they have the latest version of the ROM. Now we are depenable of the "operators" and they use IMEI-verification, maybe they are late with putting ROM updates online, etc, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Roger
Well for now you shouldn't worry - there aren't any 'official' upgrades at the moment (I just checked the Smart Mobility site). When/if they are released, I'm sure you'll be able to get them through different channels.

Yeah thanks for the encouragment to post here...
But I thought I would let those of us who have not got it or downloaded it early that it would be availiable tomorrow...I hope you approve..
Dave,
I presume we can only install the leaked UK rom if our hero is rooted?
No, I have an Orange Hero which isn't rooted and you can update it using an update.zip file. Instructions are in another thread!
Is this a possibilty - my broadband at home is down due to BT being inept; could I download the update to my phone, transfer it to my laptop and then update? I'm a total noob so my apologies if there is an obvious answer
will it not be OTA ?
when I had my Dream android updates were Over The Air does this mean that when 1.6 Android comes out we will have to wait for HTC to sort it out before we can update unlike with normal android OTA updates ?

From what I have read, google updates i.e. donut, eclair etc will be OTA. However the HTC updates will need to be updated by connecting your phone to your PC.
Hope this helps...
This is great news indeed, I have been polling HTC website like a madman for days now!
Shame the "Nordic" update still didn't have all the Nordic languages, I'm missing Finnish dictionary. Oh well, speed update is really great anyways, I haven't had the guts to install anything unofficial to my UK bought Hero.
Thanks for bringing the good news!
Hi chaps,
I have a T-Mobile G2 - for my phone's warranty to remain intact, do I need to wait for an official T-mobile version of the Rom, or can I update with the official HTC Hero Rom?

Thank you!
any idea whn will tmobile release their own version??
yeah I have also T-Mobile G2 uk and I can't download from htc website. Can any one upload this rom and give us links unless t-mobile users can't use it. Cheers
Unless your Hero is unlocked, you can't download the rom.
THIS SUCKS!
Contact T-Mobile and complain to them then..! They DO have the ROM.. THEY are withholding its release!
Yeah, because complaining to T-Mobile always works.....
Seems to take aaaaaages to download!
well i just spoke to tmobile technical dept and asked thm abt the update and they were under the intention tht it is going to get pushed like it did for the G1, so I explained to them tht it wont as G2 Touch aint a google branded phone, and then the guy goes he has no idea and also checked his system if they had anything there, luks like we have to wait longer to get this update on our tmobile branded phones.

South Africa is also not going to be getting an upgrade by the looks of things... i find that ridiculous. why not just let us install the UK versions...it's the same language after all...
sigh.
Why this stepmotherly treatment to some countries?
Btw, has anyone downloaded the UK version? Does it work?

Has anyone installed a UK / Europe ROM on an Asiapac device? Does it work?
Called up HTC customer care number 1800113377
asked them about "when we will get the update?". Lady on the phone clearly said "we ARE going toget the update". we just have to wait little bit more.
the update is ready with them and it is the HTC HQ's call when to release the update.
bottom line is "wait and watch http://www.htc.com/in/support.aspx"

DAMN! i'm sorry to hear about your scare...i kinda feel responsible, having suggested the idea!
may I ask why you are avoiding installing a cooked or even OFFICIAL (as in UK version) ROM? are you worried about guarantee? or the risk of damaging your phone? Because if so, then i am gladly willing to walk any1 through the steps you need to take to get it running.
Guide me pls..
drag-on.. i'll b happy if u could guide me thro the steps , i was kinda scared to install a cooked rom on my HTC diamond2 till now coz while trying to do the same with my HTC touch i bricked my mobile a year back..
and i couldnt find a proper step by guide for doin this.. in every thread regarding the same somebody or the other is getting into problems..
so pls illustrate a proper step by step guide on the procedures of installin a ROM on a factory HTC touch diamond2..
I'll be glad to. what i would then rather do is send you a private message with the steps, so that we don't clutter the forums and have snide comments from senior members about how "easy" it all is. (they ARE right, but i know the first time is scary)
i'm going partying now, but i'll be glad to send you (and any1 else who asks for a private message) step by step instructions tomorrow.
what you can do in the mean time, is have a look at which ROM you think you might want (i'll add my suggestions anyways) here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=486
thanks dude..
thanks for the help dude.. i'll go thro that documents now..
lookin forward to ur message..

Oficial HTC shipped ROM's-where it comes from?

hey everybody. i have flashes 1.48 WWE rom to my O2 UK device and i am happy with it, but as title sais i'm a bit confused where is origin of these ROM's. htc.com and htc.com/europe haven't got it on the website and this is a place to go for oficial stuff. there's no any soft/ROM updates availible on oficial website, so it makes me think somebody inside stole it and spread on web. any ideas. apologise if stated somethhing wrong.

I guess that it comes from O2 (Or HTC, O2 dosnt make the ROM by there selfs ofc). There might be some leaks from HTC also..
If the ROMs aren't on htc's website, they're leaked.

I would also add that, if they're not on the official web site within a week or so after they were "leaked", this means HTC have read a lot of bad stuff about those ROMs here, on xda, and are preparing an update
Those official ROMs are unofficially leaked for free beta testing by this excellent community

So it is not "leaked" but official in all latest Leo devices

An official ROM that very often fails to install on unbranded hardware for many people and has to be hacked to install and even then is not guranteed to work! If thats a fully released official update God help us all!

Very often fails to install on unbranded hardware? If you're trying to update to another localisation, maybe... If the Sip is the same, installation should be flawless.
The Danish version of the 1.48 version is available through HTC's official Danish support site. Other language versions are not. The reasons for that are unknown to me, but I guess the Danish shipped version may have had one or more bugs that the other versions may not have?

don't ask stupid questions, you wont get stupid answers ;p
Many people are doing it with the same localisation on unbranded devices and it fails. There have been a number of reports of 2 identical scenarios where it works for one person but not another. Some also, myself included, cannot get the phone to update even with the Gold Card method! The updates are claimed to be official and yet they don't work consistently!? I cannot vouch for all of them all being authentic but the Danish one would certainly seem to be, as that is on the official HTC web site for Denmark. Thus common sense would suggest if one is they all are, which begs the question why are so many people having the same problems? That is the real question and no one seems to have a real answer. Workarounds are all well and good and to be respected, if they work of course, but ultimately we need to address the fundamental issue of why so many people are experiencing the same issue when they are doing things correctly. At no stage has that question been answered. In fact it is barely even asked which I find alarming.

th3 updates are official.. you're problem is that you're trying to do something that HTC don't want you to..
Gold card isn't official, that is *YOUR* problem here, not the roms!
Excuse me!
HTC don't want you to update your device with an officlal ROM update!!?? I am only trying to go from 1.43.405.1 to 1.48.405.2. Thats from WWE English to WWE English on an unbranded device. Please explain in accurate and precise detail what is invalid about that! Additionally why does it work for some and not others with the exact same scenario? Why should I even need to use the Goldcard method in the first place is my question and as stated before that has not been answered!

1.25.405.1

What is 1.25.405.1? I'm on 1.14.405.2, but reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8129287 makes it seem that I should be able to upgrade to 1.25. Googling looks like it was out yesterday.
So I raised a support email with HTC and got back:

So what is it? Is it froyo? Is it out for everyone, or just a select few. Or is it a joke I'm misunderstanding?
thanks
Its not froyo, just a small update.
Update Information: 1. Enhances support for Facebook status display when dialing; 2. Increases support for Google Services like Google Talk, Android Market and others; 3. Improves combining contacts from Outlook and other source
Right. Thanks. Got it.
http://www.htc.com/uk/support.aspx
So now I have to ask why some idiot at HTC is telling me they can't tell me when it will be available when they've announced it.
I'll let you know how they respond.
edit: how big is it? I've got 1.9gb free on the SD. That has to be enough, as it's more than was free on the card that came with it.
The update is only 13 Mb or so. See this thread for info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776991
