Modify registry - impossible? - P3600 General

I have a strange behaviour of my P3600.
I tried some tricks, using either Total Commander or PHM regedit, for instance to display both time and date on the upper right corner.
I make the changes but after doing a soft reset (button at the bottom near usb & IR), nothing happens...
and actually when I check the registry, my modifications just disappeared !?
does anybody experiments the same problem? any solution?
thx for any help

I've experienced this once after editing registry with Resco Reg Editor. After several times of trying, I realised I had to exit out of the application, i.e. shut it down completely not just minimising it, before the new settings are saved.
Again, thats with Resco, not sure about other reg edit apps, may have a similar issue, you never know.
Hope that helps.

Great it seems to work !
thanks a lot

It happens with TyTn too.

It happens with TyTn too. So it's kind of how the RegEdit programs write the Registry when exiting. I was surprised at first, but noticed you have to try several times.....
Buggy but it works.

Removing today screen items

Having installed a new application I found that it has added an item to the today screen settings. ln doing so it has deleted the tasks item from the settings (I believe there is a maximum) so I can't select tasks to appear on the today screen. Is there an alternative way to remove the unwanted today Screen item from the settings. NB. the aim is not simply checking/unchecking the setting, its removing the setting altogether.
thanks,
coj
Yeah, you can remove the unwanted items from the registry.
Use Resco Registry editor or a similar registry editor.
The key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items.

Jos
fantastic, thanks
hello,
Anyone can post the registry for "message/sms/inbox" today item? ^_^; thx in advance!

How to get rid of: stk_uippc.exe (Fun & Info)

When I open Programs I always have an shortcut named: "Fun & Info".
I know it's a shortcut to the file: stk_uippc.exe
Is there any way to get rid of this icon? I don't mind that the file keeps existing in the Windows directory.
I tried delete the shortcut but it keeps coming back after a soft reset.
Think I've found it myself, but I wanted to share it with my fellow forum members
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\STK_Service]
"Keep"=dword:00000001
Changed to:
"Keep"=dword:00000000
That's all!
Thanks for the info, but after changing it in the registry my phone starts up very slow than before. It takes about 2,5 times longer, about 4 minutes. (After I shut it down and switch it on again, or when using a soft reset)
If I change it back again in the registry to "1" (Decimal) my phone starts up at normal speed..... (about 1,5 minutes)
Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
On WM6 I've noticed that it doesn't change no matter what value I set in the regsitry.
I've tested it and it works perfect for me:
Just delete the complete "STK_Service" key. After this I soft reset my phone. Make sure you have removed the STK Shortcut of course
If you want to restore the key I suggest you export the key before deleting it!
Thanks for the fast reply. Just tried and it works.
Btw, do you know how to get Fring working with Orange world / proxy?
I can't get past the initial registration due to the message: internet connection is not available.
I can use IE and browse the internet with no problems.
Sorry if it's not the right topic to post the question.
Indeed a bit off topic.. ..try searching the forum
TIP:
www.google.com
SEARCH TERM site:http://forum.xda-developers.com
Works much better than the build in search.

Registry changes not sticking...

Hi guys, I've tried editing my registry with regards to the A2DP issue with several softwares. Unfortunately, after rebooting the Trin (reset @ bottom of device), all changes I make seem to have disappeared.
I've used both Total commander and PHM as registry editor on the device itself and MobileRegistryEditor as a remote registry editor.
With the onboard reg editors I can make keys and add values but after reboot the entries have gone.
With the remote reg editor I can browse the reg without problems but get an access denied message when I attempt to edit anything...
For some reason or other I was able to add a MinSupportedBitPool setting one time. Don't know what was different that time around though.
Deleting keys also works as they stay gone once deleted.
It's just adding the keys that is making me go mad!!!

Thx ww2250, I didn't know this...
I had discovered meanwhile that if I used the reset option in the Trinityhacks app, I could make the changes stick, so this soft reset would be similar to holding down the power button apparantly.
Thx again
Yes indeed if you are doing a software reset, it will stick - the OS will flush the registry before restarting.

Sound and notifications

Hello,
I suddently got a "0" in my notifications list. I'm pretty sure that I didn't install anything for the last month.
Any idea how I can remove that? I've tried a search in the registery but no luck.
Is there also a possibility to add extra notifications?
thanks in advance
i think its because you changed something in the registry, since there's no way to know that, a hard reset should solve the problem. if you can't live with that "0"
nope, I haven't touched the registery. All I wanted is a way to avoid the hard reset... it isn't a real problem but it does look ugly when I'm in that menu.
still i believe its the registry, maybe a program you installed changed that menu, anyways try a search for registry hacks on how to modify sounds and notifications menu aiming to delete the "0" option
problem solved, found the registry key in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\Default\Options\{A877D663-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}

alright. After did the tweaks with Resco Registry Editor. You have to soft reset them in order to take effect right? I did just that and just right after phone trying to load HTC sense, it doesn't make it through. the only button I can press was contact, phone, battery icon, signal icon. that's it. Not even the START button works. Message appeared on the screen was "Unable to locate "poutlook"...."
Oh one more thing. Do we need to wait for several minutes after we've done the registry tweaks before soft reset, ? will this prevent from
