WLAN enabled disturbs bluetooth - P3600 General

Hello.
I seem to have problem with wlan & bluetooth on my trinity.
With only bluetooth enabled I can search for other devices and connect to them with pairing and such. But when I enable wlan the search for other devices takes alot longer time and the pairing procedure fails.
Also, if I have a bluetooth connection to another device and I'm transferring data to my trinity the data transfer is messed up if I enable wlan.
Has someone else experienced this?

Got this response from htc support.
"In response to your query the type of access that you want to experience in your device, is not supported by us, this type of access is limitated to operation platform tested and reviewed by Microsoft that is the owner and creator of the Operational System."
Don't know if it's my English or their English or just one of those 'auto responses' from customer support that rarely answers ones question and give you the feeling that they haven't read the question at all, but, does their answer imply that WM 5.0 doesn't support communication with a bluetooth device and using wlan at the same time?

Have a look at the thread about my experience with HTC support. I think it is pretty obvious that customer support people have been given max 30 seconds to read and reply to any support request.
The canned response when they don't even understand what you are talking about is that you are trying to do something that is not supported.

XDA IIs WiFi controller activation

Hi everyone!
This is my first post and I would just like to say that I have found the information on xda-devlopers and these forums very useful while lurking over the last few weeks.
I am working on a commercial development project, using the O2 XDA IIs, with the goal of building a kiosk style interface to a number of web applications accessed via WiFi and GPRS. The project is progressing well and we are now at the stage of refining our prototype.
We have modified the extended ROM on the devices to reinstall our application and settings after a cold boot. However, after a cold boot the device does not automatically enable the WiFi hardware and driver. To enable them it is necessary to check the "Wireless LAN ON" box in the WLanMgr applet. The first time that this box is checked after a cold boot the device driver is registered in the active device list (HKLM\Drivers\Active) and from the investigations that I have performed so far it would appear the it also uploads the WiFi controller firmware at this time.
My question is: Does anyone know how to achieve this programmatically, i.e. without using the WLanMgr applet. My current assumption is that ActivateDeviceEx is the function that I need to call and that I need to pass in either the firmware data or the location of the firmware data. I currently have no idea what form the driver is expecting this information in.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Nigel

Wi-Fi auto switching

In the place I live there are too many available Wi-Fi connection and my device keeps switching from one to another! I can't use any wi-fi based application because it is always renovating the IP number thus making drop each connection. Is there a way to make dedicated connection to a single Wireless Lan?

There is likely to be a few ways to do this . I use an application called Hitchhiker. Mainly used to seek out Wifi hotspots and assist in connecting to them. But it has an option that lets you set up TRUSTED networks and will allow connection to them only. Can also be set to auto connect to first available trusted network. Handy when you are surrounded by networks. There is a link below. (you will also net the .net compact framework installed and there is a link for tis on the Hitchhiker page below)

Mike, you are one of the few people I've heard who have got hitcher to work OK ..... mine crashed ....but I am on An orbit / Artemis). Before I 100% Blame Hitchhicker, I also got an error message on installing .net 2 ... but otherwise seemed OK. I did a search on 'Hitchhiker' and .. got some VERY bad feedback - people having their systems trashed by it. So decided to uninstall both it and .net2.
to be safe.
Do you have ansy tips for a succesfull install and use ?
I feel the .net2 is an unhelpful overhead - a developer tool - not nec reliable (or for normal mortals ;-) ).
As an alternative I found pocketWinc ... which seems to offer much the same, without .net2, and (and the hype ?). I've not tried it yet but will let you know.
I'll be interested to hear how you get on with that app. As far as Hitchhiker goes - I did nothing special. I've installed .net and Hitchhiker twice and no problems each time - Except on both occasions hitchiker reported an error on first running until after a soft reset - after that no problems. Regarding .net - I installed it as a few apps. need it otherwise I do nothing with it. Some folks say it's memory greedy - perhaps it is but not giving me any probs.
Cheers

Choosing between WiFi, GPRS, VPN etc. - any simple utility outthere? plz...

Is there a kind of utility that if a connection is required, asks user how to connect? Something like there use to be on a PC, when You start IE? I don't remember which version of IE/Windows it was but it looks something like this - http://support.bee.net/dial/email/outlook6.gif
The problem is, selecting manually how to connect is very much pain in the ass, I am wondering that if there isn't a software already written for this, why is that. It would be a simple yet very usable - You start IE for example, and the phone asks you how to connect, via WLAN or GPRS or whatever. OR maybe even over BT if You have a BT device for connection over PC or smth.
The second option would be to prioritize the connection list - like tell the PDA that first try WLAN, if it fails then try GPRS etc.
The third option would be somehow to use MortScript for this. It's still better than going to Connection Manager through tens of taps.
Been searching the forums. Looked through at least all threads' titles under networking. But no solution so far.
Any ideas? I would appreciate any help. And still wondering why someone hasn't already solved this... Maybe they have, but cannot find it then
So nobody has ever heard of anything like this? Would there be an enthusiast who would program such utility? It would not be a major application...
How do you manually choose connection?
I have HTC Diamond with Windows Mobile 6. I connect it to my work computer to synchronise with Outlook but I want to use my 3G (or GPRS) connection for internet. What should I do?
i really dislike the way the WM6 autoamatically chooses GPRS has its first connection type.. but then if WIFI is turned off it has no choice
An option to possible enable Wifi rather than GPRS would be nice
Windows mobile's connection manager is horrible. I suspect the group assigned to WM networking at microsoft had little (or no) prior experience and didn't really understand how IP routing, interface stacking, etc. works.
We sorely need some kind of end-to-end communications manager that is aware of all network devices (GPRS, CF wireless/ethernet cards, onboard wireless, bluetooth, USB, etc) and virtual devices (all forms of VPN), and how they interoperate. Something that allows editing of routing rules, per-connection DNS servers, gateway priorities, preferred devices, timeouts, connection persistence, etc.
Worry about things like "dial-on-demand" after the basics are covered.
Today it's virtually impossible to keep a WM device on a VPN connection and even harder when you've got phone calls and wifi to deal with. I have my activesync configured through a PPTP VPN and at least 5 times a day it loses its connection and requires me to manually press "sync." Sometimes that doesn't even work, requiring a reboot. Usually there will be some vague and unhelpful error message like "waiting for network" or "could not connect for an unknown reason."
In fact while I'm on a bit of a rant, is anyone else infuriated by error messages like that?
Obviously there was an error - you don't need to tell the user that. If there was no error, you'd be connected! What is the purpose of telling the user there was an error? There is always an "error" unless there is success. TELL THE USER WHAT THE ERROR WAS. Anything else is useless and frustrating.
The device should also absolutely freak out if it ever loses any connection. If the phone loses anything.. the GSM signal, activesync's connection to the exchange server, the VPN... it should beep, vibrate, flash, and refuse to do anything (sleep, power off, etc) until either one of two conditions is true:
1. The error is no longer present (the phone was able to reestablish the connection), or
2. The user has acknowledged and dismissed the error.
It should never be the case that the phone is disconnected and not attempting to reconnect, unless the user chooses that mode of operation. Anything else leads to lost email, missed meetings, and high blood pressure.
Ugh.
Anyway, I think there's a lot of money to be made by a company that can put together a properly functioning WM connection management system. I'm still looking...
This might help, I've not tried it yet but it looks promising....
http://www.iaccarino.de/silvio/ppcstuff.htm#MobileProfiler
That is a much needed program. WM 6.1 does an awful job with GPRS, WiFi,
Phone, etc.
Thanks joemanb, somehow I missed Your reply. But this isn't exactly what I'm looking for. But thanks anyway. I understand that this proggy would be very useful for many people but I don't understand why somebody with programming skills doesn't want to do it...
I have the very same problem.
I have both symbian and WM phones.
Nokia have had this right since my 9500 when you check email or go on the Internet it prompts you for the connection to use. I got a Imate-Kjam and was shocked that it did not do this. It was subsequently replaced with a E90 that still does it the right way and very well. I just got a Samsung SGH-i780 and it is great but it still has no Idea of how to connect to the Internet the way I would like. having 3g makes it less of a problem as I simply don't use the wi-fi but this bugs me that I can't.
All they need to do is have the phone prompt you when you open a Internet app for the connection to use. How hard can that be to realize ?
Bump bump bump
Um... Bump?
Come on developers, You cannot say You don't miss something like that already...
Bandswitch
I hope too in the developers. While waiting I found "Bandswitch" which make something similar...

Disable GPRS connections
Try this. Works fine on my Herald/P4350.
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
Thanks for the suggestions but as far as I can tell, these apps only handle mobile data connections and now Wi-Fi. You can easily disable GPRS by creating a fake GPRS connection with no real access point. That is not what I am trying to accomplish here. But thanks anyway.

[APP] XP like Wireless Scanner

I´ve developed a simple app for scanning wireless devices for the pocketpc. Its features are:
- It´s been designed to be usable with your fingers but keeping a considerable amount of information on the screen
- Scans for wireless devices (APs and Clients) by issuing DeviceIoControl calls to the underlying driver (ndisuio)
- Sorts networks based on signal strength and displays the strength using the typical windows vertical bars
- Displays if network is protected or not (using a keylock image if it is)
- Further details of the wireless device can be seen when clicking on the device
- Scanning speed is configurable (5 possibilities)
And that´s all for the time being. Hope you like it!!!
P.S. I am currently developing a PE/Analyzer and ARM disassembler at the moment. I may release a beta soon to know your opinion.
UPDATE: I´ve been making some changes to the app and after some time I´ve decided to make it more eye-candy and "touch friendly". I´ve rewritten all the interface code and I´ve been testing it lately. Some options in the menu do not still work properly but I´m working on it...
I´m currently testing the WZC API to be able to connect to an AP with a simple click. When I manage to support at least open and WEP authentication (I´m now facing some issues with WEP encryption) I´ll post a new version of the app.
As for now:
* Scan begins right away if a wireless adapter is found
* Wireless device information is shown/hidden by double-clicking on any item
* Automatically connect to an AP (keep your an item tapped for a while)[TODO]
P.S.: Suggestions are welcome.
this is wonderful.
few suggestions:
1. after searching, there should be an option to connect to the selected network.
2. the app has to be run while WiFi is on. if there's a possibility to have it refresh wireless adapters automatically so it detects wifi even if it's turned on AFTER the app is run it would be great.
3. if the + sign near the network name could be like twice as big, it would really help controlling the app.
other than that this is really really wonderful. scanning is MEGAfast and the app is straightforward.. no bull****.
one thing i don't understand is, which clients does it detect? my laptop is running on wifi right now and it doesn't detect it. unless i'm misunderstood the meaning of "client"
thank you!

Hi there!
1. Good news: If you keep the finger/stylus pressing any of the wireless device, you will have the option to connect to it.
Bad news: It is not working properly (i can not debug my wifi adapter with activesync on...). There is a problem here and I have two possibilities: issue ioctls to the driver to connect to an ap (too much work and testing so I find it unfeasible for WPA and such) or use wireless zero (I do not really like this way, but I may use this way if I have time to test). Each method has its advantages/drawbacks and it´s not a trivial issue to resolve
2. I could do 2 things. Either check for adapters every "n" seconds if no adapter is found or try to enable the adapter if no adapters found.
3. I´ll have a look at that.
Thank you for the feedback!
Really good app. Later I will check to see if this can fix my problem with GRemote

1.hehe i'm sorry but i can't see the good news fit here
i tried keeping my finger pressed and it doesn't do anything..
2. i assume checking for a connection every 5 seconds wouldn't make a difference cpu-usage-wise, so that would be great.
3. thanks.
4. if it's possible to scan at launch..
5. please refer to my question about the "clients". thank you.

1. I´ll check that the version I uploaded is the same I am using in my pocketpc (a popup menu shows up with an option to "Connect"). Anyway the functionality is not yet operative, so it will make no difference...
2. I think it´s a good idea.
3.
4. I guess you mean scan using the first adapter found. This is a feature I wanted to include but I have a little issue with that and the status bar not showing when I launch the scan inmediately after start.
5. when I said clients I was referring to Ad-Hoc networks
I´ll review these issues this weekend when I have some spare time.
thank you very much.

Windows Mobile 5 WiFi question

Hello everynyan
just a small question. I've got a WM5 device, a Bluebird Pidion BIP-1300 POS (POS is supposed to stand for point of sale, but in this case it surely means pile of **** :angel. Anyway, their WIFI configuration is set to connect to a particular SSID and I need a way to completely disable the SSID search so they connect only to this preconfigured one.
I can disable the notification that new SSIDs were found, but this is not quite what I need.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance
Install WM6 that should help.
Unfortunately I cannot do that because the manufacturer does not support WM6 on these devices and it is not possible to install custom ROM because the devices would go into tamper mode - these are credit card processing terminals, so the security is high.
