AIM on 8525 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all I know im new and 1st thing everyone will say is search I did couldnt find anything but the Agile Messenger WM5.0. Isnt there a hack of some sort to have the AIM on the 8525 just as it is on my home computer w/o having to pay any subscribtion like Agile Messenger WM5.0. any help would be greatly appricated thanks

There is an AIM hack for WM5 that moves the toolbar to the bottom... it's somewhere on here. However I still don't like the functionality of it. I prefer IM+ - it's much less buggy than Agile Messenger, but it is pay software as well. Personally, since I have to live with this phone for a year+, I'm willing to pay for good software.

VGA WEB Browser which one

Having a VGA PDA is nice, but Microsoft made useless Pocket IE, which Browser will help me to REALLY surf in VGA mode, I do not want to put the VGA Hack for everything
I am afraid there are very few options at the moment. Give Bitstream's Thunderhawk a try though it is a bit expensive as you have to select a package of regular payment. However use there free trial period and if you like it you may continue.
I am also anxiously waiting for the WM5 compatible version of Access Netfront and Opera.
I was using Netfront 3.2 on my previous i-mate pda2k but this does not work on the JJ.

What VGA hack? Do you know of one that works for WM5 or Pocket IE? I've been looking for one.
Thanks,
Brett
I've always liked opera and used to use it loads on my SE P800/P900. Does anyone know if they plan to release a WM5 version? Should we ask them?
minimo support VGA not sure if it works on 2005 though
It doesn't (at least it didn't for me)
This is reall stupid, MS made the OS quite well except for Web browsing...

I never cease to be amazed when I ponder the absolute stupidity of Pocket IE. To some extent I can understand why some people would want to use the pixel doubling feature on a VGA device, but why on earth wouldn't they give us the option to disable it?
Brett
It really is pathetic isn't it. They give us the options of having the text as small as we like but then it goes and makes all the pictures massive and blocky.
I guess MS just don't want people to use the browser.

And worst off all VGA work flawlessley on Terminal Service... :x
Well, there you go then. I'll remote desktop through to my server, which will RD through to a desktop machine (with slightly more lapse security settings than my server; eg running scripts, etc) and I'll use that IE in that instead
MiniMo - Mini Mozilla -
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/
support vga screen (640x480) check http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/FAQ.html for more infos.
some screenshots http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/screenshots.html
forget the dl link http://www.meer.net/~dougt/minimo_ce/
use the 009 version
Tried the install of minimo on my Jasjar. Ran thru the normal start of installation, then i got a msg on the pda screen that the install was unsuccessful!
I tried to use Minimo very eary time i got Jasjar, yse works.
But not only too slow but also the size was too big for me.
Not good solution for me.
That why i am using Opera for MS Smart Phone and Opera Mini for GSM Phone on MIDLet.
Opera Mini is the best for me at this moment.....
How do you use Opera Mini without being in Norway?
There website says Norway only.

Unfortunately Bitstream Thunderhawk that is the best browser at the moment does'nt work with jj. Anyone managed to work with it and jj?
@ 155,
You can run it. The default language is Scandanavian (Please don't shoot me if I have that wrong). But you can go into the settings and change it to english. I didn't find the program too useful, but it does work.
Sorry late replay, already not up to date i think....

change english menu like this...
Start Opera -> Meny -> Verkt?y -> Instillinger -> Spr?k
you can find Language manu!
Also you can see the Captured here(pls igonore japanese)

@lucazaffiro.
Bitstream Thunderhawk does work on the JJ. It is working for me.
The trick is that before you tap the Thunderhawk Icon (eye) rotate the screen to portrait. If you start Thunderhawk without rotating the screen to portrait then it gets stuck.
Please do let me know if this helped.
Kind regards

Messenger software with webcam for universal???

Hi,
just wondering if there is any messenger sw for the universal, making use of the camera as a webcam....for both MSN & yahoo?
i've only been using Agile messenger so far, and i havent really bothered looking around for other messenger sw....
I guess a messenger with webcam functionality for the universal would be really slick!
S
Now there's a great ideia!!!!
wouldnt this be quite doable since windows mobile 5 has a standard api (i think) for the camera?

its very much doable! Just waiting for the people out there to "do it"
Wonder if AgileMobile would really do it or not....its freeware, and most freeware dont have frequent "free" updates
Thats the reason i asked if there is any other commercial messenger app...we could contact the developers and ask them to add the feature in....
S
Is it just my Exec then or are you all ... really .. glossing over the fact that Agile messenger was designed for far lower res displays and looks chunky, distorted and UGLY on the Exec? Not to mention being unreadably blurry and pixellated text when you have anti aliasing on?
Or the fact that you cant use it in full screen with the keypad?
Uhm these are show stoppers for me tbh.
Sorry.

What browser to use

Hi all
Got my first windows phone and was wondering what browsers you are using with it ?
Thanks
Robert
IE, the built in one. Works fine for me. Only thing that'll make me switch is if Firefox is realeased for WM Wouldn't that be great? Oh and throw in Thunderbird too and It'll be the best!
I hear Opera is very good for mobile devices.

Thanks tried it for an hour now and I'm loving it!!! (writing this with it ) Nice!
Opera Mini is amazingly fast. The fastest browser I've ever used. Too bad it need to run in java so entering text there's no autocomplete.
ThunderHawk is the most similar to a desktop browser and somehow their technology manages to fit about twice as much of a page on screen while still being legible. You pay a subscription of about 5 dollars a month, but after being away recently and having to use the PDA browsers a lot I was getting a headache using Pocket IE and Minimo, and the only browser which didnt make me claustrophobic was ThunderHawk.
They really should do a trial version of thunderhawk, because i dont believe many people would want to pay them before trial so its a very bad business model.
The problems with ThunderHawk are that it tries to usurp your operating system and it isnt like a normal PPC program. So, for simple short tasks I still use Pocket IE since it is less regimental.
I found Minimo to be pointless, Opera bloated, Netfront was ok, but pricey for not much advantage over an expanded PIE.

There should be a copy of spb GPRS monitor on one of the CD's that came with your device.
hello,
First of, as for msn, i use windows live mobile, its quite fast, and doe have most of the features the normal msn on pc has, but i sometimes have trouble signing in, wich is quite frustrating:S
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334621
As for browsing, i reccomend the new opera mobile 9.5 beta, it is really fast and very user-friendly, altough it crashes sometimes..;(
For tracking your download speed and usage, you should try spb gprs monitor (altough it is not free)
Hope this helps

Yes and it's a good one but it's too expensive.
$39.95 for IM
I used to use slick on S60 and it supported file transfer. Been using slick on my x1 but I havent try to use files transfer yet. You could try that, just google lonecate games slick.
I'm using BeeJiveIM and fring occasionally....but BeeJive seems to work best so far.
I kinda want a IM app thats finger friendly. But it's rather hard to find
IM comparison

today I checked new version of Fring(3.3.4) which has file transfer. It has real
file trasfer not just as a link! but I can not transferr MP3 with that.
Have anyone tried the new version on XPERIA?
None supports QQ?

Same here,
If you use msn you can even send offline messages.
The downside is that the font is too small for our resolution but still usable.

I would be interested in locating a mobile version of QQ (english preferably..)
I've been using Palringo.
Works alright for me, could be better.
Sometimes I need a soft reset for it to log in, wont log in other wise, dont know why.
Also, do the other apps make the Instant Message LED indicator flash? I know its there in the illumination settings, but palringo doesnt trigger it :|
I like also the EQO Messenger http://www.eqo.com/.
i use slick. a bit slow on some menus but i like it better than nimbuz as it does not require you to log a web server to use.
I use Live messenger and Skype, just as on the laptop.
I have tried fring but it wasn't quite it...
IM+ FTW!!!
I too second IM+. It simply works, while many others simply did not. I use ICQ, GT and Jabber protocols.
And skype for skype, sure, but it's constant data flow and thus constant battery drain. Good if it's cold outside and you want to keep your hands warm
I like fring
