theme request - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi all
I'm looking for a PPC theme, or even an application, that rotates the screen so that the USB charger socket is at the bottom (this part isnt essential) - but also has very large icons, one for phone and one for tomtom (ideally to use in car)
can any one help?
thanks

The rotate functionality is built-in - at least on my Universal with latest O2 ROM.
Just tap the rotate icon at the bottom-right of the screen - on the extreme right of the screen on the very next line above the bottom (softkey) bar.
Tap it again until you get the right orientation. An annoying drawback is that when you pivot or close the display panel, the autorotate function (I think it's unique to the Universal) changes your setting to the default. There might be a way to disable that, though.
As for the buttons thingy, I can't say for sure because I've never really used them, but a plug-in sounds like it would do the job - Resco and maybe Tom-Tom's own spring to mind from when I've seen them in passing.
Ryan.

What programs you looking for ?

Currently looking for .
Today icon to turn off screen so I can leave WIFI and MSN on with screen off.
Today icon to switch between landscape portrait.
Today bar that shows outgoing calls in minutes and sms texts sent.
Icon on today screen that lets me turn GPS on or off so it doesnt connect itself but I dont need dummy entries.
Task list that actually shows task title like " Walk dog " didnt like taskplus.
Remote software for TV, DVD etc.
What does anyone use for the above and what is everyone else looking for ?
woo.. I won't start about what I'm looking for - it's too much But I ordered (though it's on back order.. bah) the DevKit from MS, so maybe I'll make my own solutions in due time.
Anyway...
For the first two, just get one of the many utilities that allow you to launch a program from your Today Screen. I used tdLaunch right now, might move to cLaunch (same program, bit more functions), or use a different solution altogether. Then get...

...to rotate your screen
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14498
or
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15943
or
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=16314 (includes a component)
...to turn your screen off. Please note that I'm using the last one, and it turns the entire screen off (not just the backlight, the LCD panel as well) - so it won't respond to taps or anything; you'll have to use the on/off button to turn the screen back on. I don't know whether the other two turn the LCD off, or only the backlight.
Then just launch the appropriate application from your today screen using the today screen launching app. Simple as that
just checked - the other two turn the entire screen off as well
You need one single SW: SPB Pocket Plus[/url]

MSN Messenger

I've searched the forums for this - not sure if the VGA modifications fix it - but:
In landscape mode, MSN Mesenger does not take advantage of the whole screen. Both the text display and the entry window are crammed into the top 50% or so of the screen, while the bottom half is simply a blank white field. Is there any way to force the application to use the whole screen?
Flip the screen to portrait, then flip it back.
It's a bug.
Ant
That worked - thanks.
also, enable and dissable the keyboard on the botom bar wer the softkeys are, that works for me, plus is quicker
Thank you...

Screen Rotation Problem

Hi. When I open the keyboard, the screen orients itself to the landscape mode. When I close the keyboard, the screen resumes portrait mode, but on the right hand side, part of the screen is covered by the background. It is the same width as the scroll bar. I can't get rid of it until I reset the device. Any thoughts as to the problem and the fix? Thanks.
umm i had that issue before, do you have a lot of programs open? sounds strange, but when ever i have a lot of stuff running, my device cant handle it, so it kind of gets frozen onto the screen until i reset...
does this problem occur ALL the time, or when u run a certain problem?
Actually, it only happens on the Today screen. If I have any program running in landscape and return to portrait before exiting to the Today screen, no problems. Just when I go to landscape in the Today screen. Very odd.
what todayscreen plugins are you running?
I think only two: Tonaya Weather to Go and cLauncher. Pbar is also running, but I don't think it is a Today Plug-in.

I had the same problem too with cLauncher but it is no longer there after I installed SPBMobile Shell which enable me to put cLauncher into one of its tabs buttons...
Why don't you try disabling cLauncher from your today..
I tried disabling each program alone. I had to place other today features (all standard with WM5) to create a list long enough to cause the scroll bar on landscape mode. When I return to the portrait mode, the space was still on the right side as before. Curiously, I put back the plugins, and the space was gone. Must have been refreshed.
Hi Curious,
To refresh the Today screen after the vertical scroll bar has disappeared try...
1) Select the Comms button to display comms options
2) Slip out the keyboard so that the comms buttons re-orientate
3) Slip the keyboard back in then exit the comms screen to return to the Today screen
Is the Today screen intact now?
Thanks. That worked. Now I'm just wondering why it's doing that in the first place. At least I don't have to reset to get back part of my screen. Thanks again.
Nice one! Well done. Not sure why it happens but I have the same issue but I don't mind it that much. I was guessing that it was the SPB Plus Today Plugin but I'm not sure.
Do you also use the SPB Plus Today Plugin?
No. Is that like cLauncher?
Hi Curious,
The SPB Plus Today Plug-in allows you to place shortcuts on the Today screen and group them under tabs which is nice but if you don't have it installed then that blows my theory
The only other thing I can think is that it is possible to alter the vertical scroll bar width by editing registry, the key is:
HKLM\System\GWE\cxVScr
The Default is (Decimal) 13 but you may be able to make this smaller so that it minimises the problem.
If you do find the cause then let me know
Thanks, but I think I'll stick with your previous idea. I'd rather not tinker with the registry if I don't have to since I'm not great at understanding registry changes.
cLauncher does what SPB plugin does. It's free and it allows different sizes for the icons. It really helps me with one handed function. It may be part of the problem if SPB does the same thing with the screen orientation.
Thanks again for your help.

"Mini S2U"

Source Code Finally Posted...
Sorry it took so long to post the source. I haven't been monitoring this thread for some time due to other time demands. A recent email reminded me that I promised to release the source, so here ya go...
Release 6 Notes Below...
About a week ago, I was looking for an app that would lock my wizard when it came out of suspend. I use a bluetooth headset for all my calls, so I rarely remove my phone from its carrier. However, while talking, I tend to move around and frequently the hang-up button would be pressed resulting in a disconnect.
Frustrated, I looked at a few apps. I really like the "Slide to Unlock" feature in the iPhone-like app S2U. It more or less suited my needs. However, my bluetooth headset wouldn't work with S2U installed.
Thus I set about writing an app that would "lock" the phone whenever it came out of suspend mode. The result is the app, LockDown, attached to this post. Once run, LockDown sits in the background waiting for "resume" event. At this time, it locks all keys and prevents any stylus events save one - a "Slide right to unlock" slider control. As with S2U, once the thumb tab is slid all the way to the right, the keys are unlocked and the unit once again responds to the stylus. Also note that LockDown only takes up 5k of memory.
LockDown has been tested on TNT.1933 (WM6) for the Wizard. It's compiled as a PPC 2003 app, so in theory it should also work on WM5 and any PPC 2003 devices. I've tested it with my Visual Studio WM5 and PPC emulators, and it worked fine. However, it couldn't test it on the real deals.
It's a new app. While I'm not experiencing any problems, please consider it beta for now. As such, don't wire it up as an auto-start link until you've run with it awhile and are certain it works as advertised. For now, I suggest just copying it to your \windows folder and linking to it there. If you have any problems, please report them, and I'll address them ASAP.
Release 6 Notes
The slider bug was fixed.
The Message option was fixed.
Application Invocation
Lockdown [-lock] [-close]
With the -lock parameter, the application starts in lock mode.
With the -close parameter, the application is removed from memory (if running).
Registry Options in Folder \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Lockdown\Slider
Position (DWORD, 0):
If set to 0, the slider is centered.
If > 0, the slider is positioned X pixels below the "Top Taskbar".
If < 0, the slider is positioned X pixels above the "Bottom Taskbar".
Padding (DWORD, 2):
Pixel offsets for slider arrow from the left and right edges of the slider window.
Message (String, "Slide right to unlock.")
The text message displayed in the slider window.
TextColor (DWORD, 00FFFFFF hex):
Color of slider message. Note that the HEX color format is 00BBGGRR where BB is blue, GG is green, and RR is red.
FontPoint (DWORD, 16):
The font size of the slider message.
PenColor (DWORD, 00F04050 hex):
Color of the slider arrow.
BackgroundColor (DWORD, 00CCCCCC hex):
Color of the slider background.
WidthMultiplier (String, .92):
Must be a floating point value. Multiply this value with the lesser value of the desktop height or width (in pixels) to determine the slider width.
For example: If the desktop display is 240 by 320 and the WidthMultiplier is 0.9, the slider width is 216 (240 X .9) pixels.
HeightMultiplier (String, .22):
Must be a floating point value. Multiply this value with the lesser value of the desktop height or width (in pixels) to determine the slider height.
TabWidthMultiplier (String, 1.5):
Must be a floating point value. Multiply this value with the calculated slider height to determine the width of the slider arrow.
Note that the height of the arrow is always equal to the height of the slider.
EnableAnswer (DWORD, 1):
If set to 1, the answer button is enabled during an incoming call period (while the phone is ringing).
If set to 0, the answer button is always disabled.
EnableIgnore (DWORD, 1):
If set to 1, the ignore button is enabled during an incoming call period (while the phone is ringing).
If set to 0, the ignore button is always disabled.
After the installation, only the Position key will be present in the registry. I figure that most users will only tweak this value.
To modify the other parameters, add the appropriate keys with the defined types as shown in parenthesis. The default values are also listed in the parenthesis.
If you decide to tweak these parameters, please remove any shortcut to Lockdown from the StartUp folder. While I've taken steps to prevent "bad" values in these parameters, I still suggest this precaution.
Please note that Lockdown must be terminated and restarted before any changes to registry settings take effect.
As always, if you have any issues, please let me know.
W James

as he said...it sits behind the screen..and waits for the resume event
Here's a screen shot as per request. It's very plain jane. I wasn't looking for the beauty of something like S2U. I merely wanted a functional app that didn't take up much real estate (5kb).
Once it's gone through the paces and looks to be bug-free, I'll release the code and you can tweak to meet your needs.
It gives a black screen with white text in the center of screen saying "Slide right to unlock." There is a box with a plain white slider. You cannot see your today screen.
edit: Sorry, had the page open while I tested it and did not notice your reply before posting.
is it me or do we really need another "slide to unlock" app to mimic the iphone. There's already S2U Pro & S2U2.
What's funny, is that yeah these are cool but are they really needed? If you setup the device button lock correctly, then what's the point of a S2U app? All it does is add one more step to getting to your today page....

To each his own, but i run S2U2 because it allows me to operate my phone via bluetooth while the buttons are locked. The builtin lock doesn't let me do that.

Hmm, never had that problem with bulit-in lock. Yes, to each their own. I've installed/uninstalled S2U2 soooo many times. I love the app but end up finding that it serves me no real purpose (other then eye candy) and it gets uninstalled. New version comes out, installed for a about 3-4 hours, then uninstalled again.
Very Nice...can i Request something?
Hi
Thanks for the nice application
very small, problem free so far (on Eten M700 with WM6) & useful
Can i have 3 requests please:
1- can you make the slider spring back to the left if it was accidentaly moved to the right, right now it stays half way & i think if you make it spring back it will be more safe as a lock & it will look better too
2- can you make the slider button wider (double) so i can catch it with my fat fingers
3- can you add an icon, so i may put it in my today launcher list & it would look better than the plain white square, something like a lock or key or a hand can do.
I also noticed that sometimes as i come out of the suspend mode, the slider is either late to appear (1-2 sec) & may remain unresponsive for two or three trys to slide it to right (stays in place)
Once started i couldn't figure how to get rid of it & seems that only way is to soft reset to go back to normal wake up without locking
Hope these comments help..thanks again for nice work

Those apps you mentioned take a ****load of memory and add to battery drain because of all the animations and graphics. His is a simple slide function that sips memory and battery life. Very useful IMO. Sliding is good cuz I find unlocking the WM way to be annoying. I have to touch an icon to lock. Then to unlock, I have to press two buttons. With sliding, it locks automatically and unlocking is accompished in one simple motion.
You're right that there's already enough S2U programs.
I also think S2U2 is an awesome balance between beauty and speed/mem cost. For people who have only tried S2U, you really need to change to S2U2... WAY faster and stable!
In most cases, yes S2U isn't that necessary, as it's similar an extra step to get to your today page, but I need it because:
1) My alarms don't wake if the phone is on standby, so I put it onto S2U2 mode when I sleep
2) My audio manager doesn't go to the next song if the phone is on standby, so I have to lock my phone while listening using S2U2
I question how good it'll be to have Slide 2 Lock as a today plugin, since I don't need some extra waste of space. What I do is set the gesture right-to-left (using FTouchFlo) to execute S2U2 so when I slide right to left, it opens S2U2, then sliding left to right, unlocks it. Love it!

I hate to say it, but that's not quite true. If you setup the lock all buttons, sure you won't accidentally turn it on, but if you get a phone call, it doesn't just power right off (at least my 6700 doesn't) - it can and has made phone calls like that...
And as for the S2U/2 - they use quite a bit more memory than this. A 5k program use is great, although I won't use it because I like the clock on s2u2.
Great App
This is all I ever really wanted. Just a very simple slide unlock. simple.
Excellent.
thanks.
This simple slide to unlock app is perfect for my needs...Thanks!
The point here is WJames created an application for his own use and shared it with everybody. If someone think that it is not req. they might not use it. Anyway thanks for the nice little app.
Thanks! Great small app. Would be fantastic with a simple white clock above the lock bar though, so we could check the time on the phone without unlocking it. Thanks a bunch!

HD2 rotation options and keyboard anomalies

i've searched for ways to open up other rotation angles as well as autorotation for any and all apps under the sun. most people suggest bsbtweaks and it really does do the job, but only rotates to the allowed 270degrees angle (thats -90degrees). effectively, it just adds the window class to the list of window classes that the built in HTC g-sensor mechanism will give respect to.
so i looked some more and found "changescreen" to fit the bill. after setting up exceptions, it works quite well to allow all other applications (except for the exceptions which include sense) to rotate to 90degrees, 180degrees (this looks way cool some times!), and the usual 270degrees.
HOWEVER, the point of this new thread is to discuss something that seems to be quite an attractive option if it can be made to work 100%. i've noticed that the onscreen landscape keyboard is MUCH more usable in the 90degrees rotation. this is because those damned cursor keys take up 0.5 inch of space that is balanced out by the hardware keys on the other side, thus placing the rest of the keyboard SQUARELY in the middle of your thumbs! contrast this with the experience on the default 270degrees rotation where the cursor keys and hardware keys end up on the same side, forcing the user to stretch out the right hand thumb to reach the middle of the keyboard.
the amazing thing is that keyboard really works 99% properly in the 90degrees orientation. the 1% catch? the little preview squares that appear while tapping a key seem to be using a buggy rotation matrix when the screen is in this angle! effectively, this makes the preview squares upside down and on the wrong side of the center line of the keyboard!
so for me, TWO things would make life much sweeter on the HD2:
1. keyboard preview squares should appear right side up and on the correct area near the tapped key in 90degree rotation.
2. i would also like to DISABLE the 270degree rotation altogether and force the HTC g-sensor mechanism to think that the 90degree rotation is DEFAULT. i know i can achieve this partially using "changescreen" but sense will still rotate ONLY in the 270degree direction in the album and music tab. with this tweak, one can rely on the built in mechanism and also be able to enjoy the keyboard in the more comfortable 90degree rotation.
any 1337 h4x0r222 with some 1337 suggestions/tweaks?
some updates...
first, there is another anomaly i didn't notice before pertaining to the thumb friendly scroller that pops up when touching a scroll bar. this popup scroller is also being drawn upside down and on the wrong side of the screen in 90degree rotation.
other updates include:
1. tried toggling HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\LandscapeMode from 0 to 4, followed by soft reset, no joy!
2. tried toggling HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\LandscapeFixed from 1 to 0, followed by soft reset...the right handed and left handed options in Screen under Settings->System become available but the g-sensor autorotate doesn't seem to respect the choice set here, so no joy!
