Screen Rotation - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi All,
I have updated to the latest AKU3 ROMs and also a few months ago I replaced the housing...However, I've noticed that the screen does not automatically rotate when the screen is swivelled??
Now is this because I did something during re-assembly of the housing OR is there something in the ROM's that disables the hardware somehow??
Cheers
ODY

Unlikely to be the rom, since it's part of the system HTC provided.
If it's been disassembled it's more likely that.

hey VJ, sorry to bother but do you know what jumper/cable/connector/switch to jump/disconnect/tape inside the Universal to keep it from switching?

I'm sure I saw someone mention that the screen rotation is done by a magnet and switch? It's possible that maybe a small magnet fell out during disassembly? But I have looked throught the Universal repair manual and I can't find any reference to such a magnet??

I'd be nice to know exactly where it is so one would be able to take it out, if it were easy. I don't know if I wanna disasemble mine yet...
EDIT found it!! If you use a very, very light metal chain, as I did, with a keyring @ end, you can hover it around the Universal and see the tension of the chain when it's near the magnet. the keyring sticks too!
it's on the lid, behind the video-call video camera. I'm going to check the lid part of the manual.

Well taking the screen section apart is easy! You don't have to disassemble the whole unit. Looks like my magnet fell out then! Trouble is I want to sell mine so I'll just have to declare the auto screen rotate doesn't work (I've made sure that there is the rotate screen icon on the task bar though!!)
Cheers

it works!! I tested it with the very small and highly magnetic point in the bezel of my tablet PC (to hold the pen) and it did change orientation.
thing is that it seems to be stuck beside the sound-holes (when the unit is closed).
I wonder how could I disassemble the lid only? are none of those screws @ the bottom connected to the back part of the lid? if so, that would be awesome!

Hi, on the xda's ftp, you'll find the maintenance manual for Universal...may help you to disassemble yours

thanx for the link!
however, it seems rather risky to try to pry the bezel open while still on the unit. Anyways I'm doing it right know. I'll get back to you.

I did pry it out and took the magnet off... painless(*) procedure and flea-sized magnet! don't loose!
I took a couple of pictures detailing the magnet position and the lid disassembled while still on the unit.
if you want to do this procedure do not loose the tiny screws and...
(*) be careful with the outer speaker (the one that lets you hear a call while the screen is facing the keyboard when closed), it isn't hard wired, it's just two small and fine contacts that might get distorted when putting the lid cover back... I had to take mine out again to correct this problem.
also, be careful with the screw driver and digitizer, as you'll be working in very akward positions to avoid disassembling the whole unit, and take off the battery of course.

Thanks for the photos - looks like my magnet feel out so I bought some 1/8 inch square magnets from ebay. It took a couple to find the sweet spot where the screen rotated but at least it works fibe now!

no problem. I'm also going to put the magnet back, now the unit doesn't now when it's closed, and therefore the outer speaker does not work. the screen also does not turn off when closed, only when the system timer tells it too... oh well.

you can turn the screen off by pressing the power button briefly.
no ext speaker though! maybe there's a way in software to disable just the rotation; i think the guys trying to get linux comfortable on the universal have some experience with it, maybe they can help.

How is your Universal holding up?

I've been using my Exec for little over a month now, no scratch on the casing nor screen, but I just noticed the tampo print on the side camera and backlight buttons are rubbing off.. No biggie but I'm a bit anal about these stuffs. How is your Universal holding up so far?
As far as the front camera (the one for video calls) is concerned it is okay because my screen protector came with two small round pieces to cover this camera as well as the lense of the main camera.
Yes the print on the backlight button is almost gone after about 1 months of usage. I also find that some marks (about 10 at the moment) developing on the screen side of the cover. This I believe are being formed as the top of the keys rub against the screen side of the cover when it is closed. Rest of the finish I find is pretty good till now with no abnormal wear of the pait work or anything else.
Kind Regards
why the backlight button? what does it do? i have had 3 of these things now and none of them have ever done anything when i press the backlight button.
just curious
joe
I think all it does is turn the monitor light back on if it's off.. same thing as if you just tab on the screen

You have 3 Universals! WOW!
If I am not mistaken, he probably remapped the backlight button to lauch an application. Here is how:

yeah, one jasjar with vodafone - rip off data charges and they just wouldn't let me sign up for decently priced data chunks, and it had a dodgy screen, and 2 mda pro's - the first kept crashing so got sent a proper new replacement which is good so far.
keyboard marks on jasjar
hi everybody. i want to use my jas jar with the screen side outwards.. what happens is that i notice the keys of the keyboard tubbing against the metal portion of the cover (the outside) when i turn the screen outwards. will they cause marks on the surface.?
Keys are made of rubber like material so it is very unlikely that it will cause scratch marks. I have a Piel Frama case which has a film like material covering the keys. Thats the best solution if scratching the device is your main fear
hi
using mine in laptop mode ever since i got it in mid oct, no scartches on screen and none of the buttons lost markings and except for two marks on side of screen because of the two elevated rubber protectors, no other scatch or mark any where else on the body.
I dont use any screen portector or any case but always make sure that i dont have anything else in my pocket except Exec like keys etc
hi .. sadly there are no o2 exec or imate jasjar cases availabe here in india. if anybody knows please let me know .. thanks
You can purchase them online from Piel Frama or Brando or PDAir or Proporta....
The pivot worked loose, but there a thread on how to fix it.
Going to try later this week.
bougt it in october, not really been using it but every thing is still ok. It needs resetting very 2 days coz it crashes. it cashes mainly in contacts list and other time during the change over from landscape to portrait.
never had a pda before.
does this happen much to others?

SOS - Hermes works fine just that there is NO screen!

Really need help here,
My hermes suddenly decided that visuals are no longer needed.
That means the screens stays off all the time (yes even in bootloader mode).
It works, receive calls and flashes roms but in no situation can I see anything on the screen (pitch black screen).
I've got no warranty so I took it apart and checked each cable and connector - no issues were seen. I tried changing SPL-s, RUU, Roms all worked but left my tytn with that black screen.
Did anyone see this happen or has any advice?
This sucks big time :-(
No one? Oh man, I guess it's dead then :-(
Last bump before giving up and throwing it away - please?
send it to me if your gonna throw it away : - 0
I've given up on mine as well. It has white screen though. Where do I dump this thing?
If it is out of warrenty, I would take it apart as is sounds like the hardware, check the connections to the LCD. Does the backlight still work, or if you put it in strong sunlight, can you see the LCD working?
My Hermes had a white screen also. I found that if I squeeze the bottom right hand corner whilst resetting it would sometimes work. It seems there is a chip on the switch board that needs the right ammount of pressure on it. I think it was a design flaw as the herm200 and 300 are different. If applying pressure works and you are confident enough take the hermes apart and put a couple of small pieces of plastic or paper between the front buttons and the small square chip on the switch board. This worked for me.
The service guide is available if you google. Let me know if you need more info.
As for the black screen that sounds more serious sorry not seen that one.
what are you guys willing to sell your pdas for? Mine fell in a puddle and i need one for parts. The white screen might be fixable the first couple of times but then it dies off for good, the black screen i've never heard of.
So if you want to sell for a reasonably cheap price let me know, i can buy a new keypad online for $50. So around there would be nice!

I just tested this on mine and actually got some results.
mines the opposite though, it will NOT work with any pressure. I left all the screws loose for that board under the buttons, and left the LCD assemble screws out on that end and it works, But if I press the keys it whites out again and won't come back until I repeat the dis-assemble/re-assemble
I had a similar problem but this was after someone dropped mine on the floor. The screen would just be white screen, while everything worked. If I pressed the bottom right of the phone it would sometimes come on and stay on for a little while but would eventually always go to white screen.
I did manage to use the phone but had use a program called Net Control which allowed me to control the phone over WIFI with the phone screen shown on the PC. Got the phone replaced in the end by the people who dropped it.
i got the flex cable and my phone still has the white screen problem....wtf///

Wing sliding keyboard problem

hey i was just wondering if someone could help me out here, ive searched around with no luck. I replaced my wing's housing because my old one was all scratched everything works fine but i have one problem when i slide out the keyboard the screen doesnt go to landscape mode and i have no idea whats broke checked all the cables and stuff and its all pluged in, the keyboard works just wont rotate the screen thanks
You can try a hard reset, which should cure any software problems.... but if you were messing with the phone and taking it apart in order to replace the housing ... it sounds like a hardware issue.
its defenitely hardware related just not sure what it could be not sure where the thing that operates the screen and turns it when the slide is open would even be
I had the same problem. Their is a little round magnet in the front housing that you forgot to swap from the old case. Its hard to notice but its in one of the corners in the screen side housing. its under the OK button, under the circuit board. on the actual sliding plastic housing. you'll see a small round recces thats where the magnet goes.
the wing has a Prossesser Of 200Mhz, so what that means is its pretty slow.. just uninstall unused programs and End programs that your not using. Its also possible that your firmware might not Support Sliding.

Problem with auto-rotate the screen image

Problems occur after replacement of the panels, interested, which provides sensor signals to change a picture in portrait and landscape mode, I would be very grateful if you specify eventoalnite causes of this accident, IMATE JASJAR phone is silver and the new panel is Q2 black, thanks in advance

Anybody experienced this problem, I accept any suggestions and idea
The screen stops rotating when the casing is replaced due to you leaving a small magnet that is located next to the screen in your old case. It's a fairly common mistake and the small magnet is easy to overlook.

The new casing does not come with the magnet pre-installed, of course, you have to actually pull one out of your old casing and place it into the new one. No need to debate, that part is what makes your screen rotate.

I broke a part replacing the screen

I just replaced my cracked LG V20 screen and fame and while moving parts over I ripped a very small part that I don't know how to find! It was at the very top of the frame and looked like a very small and sticky cable of some sort. I think it said "4v" on it and it wrapped from the back of the frame, around the top, and to the front. It ends up right above the speaker. Since I broke this part my phone doesn't wake up to my fingerprint without me first pushing the lock button and lighting the screen up. I have been trying to look for a parts breakdown and can't find it anywhere and nowhere that sells v20 parts has been of help either. Thanks for any help!
Try to see if the censors in the top are working(light sensor and proximity censor)

Working great
the gray bit that says a model like f800l or vzw and then further on a digit and a letter? Cant find anything else looking at my screen frame that fits your description even a little. If so it just seems to come on the whole screen+frame assembly.

It was up at the very tip top of the frame by the speaker. I just barely put my phone back together again (literally and now checking the forum) and the fingerprint sensor seems to be working again like normal. So it could have just been a loose connection that I tightened back up or something unrelated to what I was talking about.

Yeah probabily, I know the connector for the fingerprint sensor is a bit touchy, took a couple times opening and adjusting things for a good connection (it totally disappeared from lineageos settings when it wasnt connected right. I hope you didnt forget to transfer over the tiny rubber piece for the proximity sensor (right next to the front facing camera), I missed that first go around and when on a call the screen was forced off until the other party hung up)
