WM5 s/w to work on 2003? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Please excuse the slightly naive post, but is there anyway that programs made solely for WM5 can be MADE to work on 2003/SE?
I ask this because Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 has been released but it's only for 5.0
I tried it on my 2i but just says something about keeping it hidden until a compatible device becomes available...
Thanks

nope, it's compiled for 2005 version

GSM Bandswitch

For all of us brave or insane souls who have migrated to the PPC2003
beta, is it possible to post somewhere the Special Edition ROM 1.1
Bandswitch tool that is on that ROM?
I tried copying it before updating, but was unable to, since it's in ROM.
Thank you kindly
It doesn't run for some reason. Which leads me to believe there is a reason the Wireless Modem isn't in there either...
u can just copy the bandswitch.exe from u xda to ur pc via active stink. however as XDA developer Peter Poelman it doesn't even work. image doesn't have wireless modem either and i haven't tested if the one in se rom will work or not.

It appears that Windows CE 4.2 has some new odd quirks in it... I am not saying that this the reason Bandswitch won't run, though.
I've been trying to understand the Windows side of the new OS. New, ways to deal with (old) stuff: the \Windows\Profiles folder, the .\WWW\ some Today plugin inconsistencies...
Mmm...
Lots of new stuff to discover
vagelis,
you are right...its a bit of a new (wierd - good) beast....things are different...gprs behaviour...allsorts...

REQUEST : getting started with wm5 development

can anyone point me in the direction of some help or a guide to getting started with wm5 dev ?
just looking for a "hello world" level walk through at the moment.
thanks in advance.
WM5 Dev
Get hold of Visual Studio .NET 2005 and examine the example programs Goodluck!
do i need to install the dotnet framework on wm5 or is it built-in ?
cheers
You need Active Sync 4 during development. You may wish to run the sample program in your WM5 device OR using a WM5 emulator. If you chose to run it on your device, cradle your device and VS.NET 2005 will install .NET compact framework on your device before it attempts to run your sample program using your device
thanks for taking the time to answer. i would have thought that the dotnet framework would have been built-in with wm5.
no-one likes to have to install extra programs to get an app to work.
I am not sure with the "newer" WM5 devices out there. I have an XDA II with the first leaked WM5 ROM and it does not have the latest .NET CF...
If you have a WM5 device, verify the .NET CF version you have by running: \Windows\cgautil.exe
i have 1.0.4292.00 installed on my wizard.
how does this compare to dotnet v1.1 or v2 ?
cheers.
I guess it is not the latest version. VS.NET 2005 needs CF v2 in order for programs to run properly.
Hi there.
I'm planning on embarking on PPC development journey as well.
Yet to get hold of VS.NET.
I was just wondering, if anyone would know how the app in the link works:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=338
Does it link to the registry, etc?
It obviously does not work on WM5, and I would appreciate if anyone could gimme a headstart on working one for WM5.
Thanks!

Click to collapse
You can develop .net CF 1.0 applications in VS.NET 2005. Then you don't need to install the .net CF 2.0 on the device. There are some handy things that's missing in 1.0, but almost everything can be done... just not as easy as in 2.0

TyTN and Smartfilter

Sorry about my question... I'm very interesting for Smartfilter Novomobile... however, I have some problem to know what is the version for PPC Phone Edition and Smartphone... Is the same install file?
Moreover, when I install it (only 55k???), when the installation is finished, I received the advice that the software is made for a previous version of Windows Mobile... Is it really all right? Is this advice a non-problem... isnt it?
Is there a problem with the TyTN? Is there anyone that have already (and use) it on your device (with satisfaction)???
Please, help me!
Thanks!
Stefano
I have used smartfilter for a while now, and it works perfectly!
When a person/number is blocked, the caller either gets a busy tone, or gets redirected to the voicemail. This has to be supported by your operator, since Smartfilter only rejects the call (same as pressing red button).
Thank you! I have only a little indecision about the version that I must download... because into theirs site the link for the smartphone version is the same for the pocket pc version... can you help me posting the right link for PPC Phone edition?
Thank you and sorry about my poor question.
Stefano
You need the pocket PC version, in windows mobile 5 there is a little difference between smartphone and pocket pc phone edition, but there was a big difference in windows 2002 ---> windows 2003 and windows 2003SE (second edition).
If you have software designed for windows 2003 operating system could work or not in windows 2005 devices, but the pocket PC version is the most probable working version
Thank you sergio for you reply. Now my issue is that I dont be able to find the link to the Pocket PC Phone Edition... on the website of Novosec there are two section... one for smartphone and one for pocket pc... but if you click each link, you are redirect to the same page with the same link that they seems linked to the smartphone edition of Smartfilter... so I'm a little confused... Indeed I have tried to install the first version that I have found follow the pocket pc link... but also to be the same file for the smartphone, when I intall it, I receive in the end of the installation on my TyTN, the warning that the software isnt for this version of windows mobile. So I'm unsure to have download the right file.
Thanks!
Stefano

[Q] Does anybody have the original imate pocket pc rom?

I wanted to downgrade my pocket pc os to it's original rom because the windows mobile 5 does not have a transcriber.thanks
Hello nfstanton,
I don't have any i-Mate ROMs, but would be willing to search if I know more about what you need. I bet the following information might help others want to help you...
Could you list the model name or number of your i-Mate?
Are you trying to downgrade to 2003 or 2002? With or without phone? What language ROM?
Any chance you know the ROM version number that you want?
Wishing you success.
ph10b windows mobile 2003..thanks
LOL - I see that is a hard to find ROM... HTC Worldwide doesn't even list the Himalaya on their Support page anymore. Other resources I checked don't have it in repository either.
One quick fix may be to Download the install package for Transcriber direct from M$. It is listed for WM 2002, but may work under WM 5.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...c3-2eee-41e3-9339-f7b303f4b386&DisplayLang=en
They have it in English, French and German...
Or
Here on xda I found an "All Himalaya WM 6.x ROMs" thread by user maggie
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379017
Lots of ROMs in multiple languages to choose from...
Some of the links might still be good... Maybe an Upgrade instead of a Downgrade??? Especially since WM 2003 is next to be phased out of support by M$.
P.S.: I'll still poke around looking for the WM 2003 a bit... Post back if either option above solves your problem so I don't keep searching needlessly.
Here is a Blog with info and working download link for a cooked version of WM2003 ROM which installs on all Himalaya... (It appears to be an English Language ROM)
http://softdown-guddu.blogspot.com/2009/09/alpine-wm2003-rom-11100-wwe.html
Another xda thread: "Genuine English WM2003 SE upgrade for Himalaya uploaded here"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=230279
Note that the files are attachments in the Original Post so you must be logged on to see them - if that doesn't work you may need 8 posts for full link status...
And a working download link for "himalaya_wm2003se_upgrade"
http://www.4shared.com/file/Z9RZUIFQ/himalaya_wm2003se_upgrade.html
That's all from me unless you post back that you need more help.
Best of Luck,
RumoredNow
Thanks
Thank You VERY MUCH for helping me You're like a angel sent from above i will never forget you
Yay!!!!
I'm glad you found an answer. Honestly, that post made my day. Thanks Bro.
There's a little problem
I'm having difficulty changing the operator in the WM2003 nbk and radio files..it says that i have to use command prompt and enter the words in the instructions so i entered them and it says that it doesn't recognize the syntax...How do you really change the operator ID of the ROM? Please elaborate the steps..if you can. Thanks
I'm honestly not up to speed on Radio Stacks... There is a large group of threads for your device here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=243
Or maybe try the xda wiki pages?

[Q] Windows Embedded

Hi,
This may seem a dumb question to you, but is it possible to somehow install Windows Embedded CE 6.0 on a T-Mobile MDA Vario II. I think my Hermes already has CE 5.2 on it. Please excuse the dumbness of this question, as I am only 11 and it is probably true that I do not know as much as you. Anyway, just so you know, I got the Embedded image from Microsoft Dreamspark.
Thanks,
VercettiM
