How to map the Startmenu>Programs to the left softkey - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Help!
Is it possible to map the Startmenu programs window to the left softkey?
I'd like to access the programs window by one key press.
To put it anotherway, can somebody tell me what shortcut can opens the programs window or the settings window?

Pressing ok on the today screen will open up the startmenu .. in case you didnt knew .. otherwise .. the bottom window key can do the same ..

I knew that. I was talking about one-button-press access to the Programs window, and not to the Startmenu.
So I'd like to open the programs window by pushing the left soft key.

Then use WM5NewMenu to create a new menu containing all your programs .. then use the left softkey to launch that new menu ..

Thanks, but it'd be too much. I use almost all of the programs. I've sorted them into sub folters, it looks like almost a "normal" phone menu system.
And that's why I'd like to access them by one key...
Anybody? else?

Use Resco Explorer and browse to windows-start menu and highlight the programs folder, tap menu and choose 'create shortcut in start menu' then after closing down Resco go to settings and choose 'soft key' in there, choose program. works for me! Also if when using Resco you goto menu and choose large icons in the 'view' sub menu, the layout will look very similar to the view when opening up programs the original way. Hope this helps!

Thanks! You are beating about the bush!
It's almost that I wanted, but it runs the Resco Explorer, and the Resco is showing the programs folder.
The result is not bad, but starting the Resco takes more time, and more memory than the "normal" programs window
Somewhere I saw some *.cpl file (or what), in a shortcut that opened the settings window. I thought there is a similar solution to the programs folder too. So i'd like to know what should contains my .lnk file, that runs the normal programs window.

Any solution for this???
Thanks

using Internet Explorer button to 'close' programs

Is it possible to actually 'close' programs using the internet explorer hard button?
I have SPBPlus installed, and the 'x' button is set to actually close programs rather than minimize then. When i assign the (ok/close) behaviour to the internet explorer button, and then use it to close a program, it only minimizes it.
So basically, is it possible to make my internet explorer button actually close programs?
thanks.
Yes it is possible with SPB Plus installed. Look further down the list of options and choose [Close]
This should do the trick.
I use Wisbar Advance 2 for that. I also have a .cpl that you drop in your windows folder that will show up in Settings>System>Soft Key so you can use the soft keys as a close button. I have the left SK for Windows and the right SK for a Close button.

Hello whats good,
Seems Like no one in the above posts interpreted what you meant.
I understand that U want to close your apps. with the HARDWARE BUTTON <INTERNET EXPLORER>
I assume (As u have stated above) U have set <ok/close> as the Action assigned to it.
Thats why It Minimises it.
To CLOSE IT FULLY. simply assign <CLOSE OK>
SCROLL DOWN >>>
Ok/CLOSE and CLOSE OK are Two Different Things.
That shall close it Proper.
PS::I too was using OK/CLOSE previously. Thanx to your Post I am able to Close my apps Fully.
One thing though It takes a mere 1.5 seconds to open my 2900 Contacts Book. But My device is lighter all the time with all the memory Hogging apps Down !!
One more thing I shall add (editing My Post)
Only those apps. whose page is Open shall be closed by this.
Not the background apps.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but you should install smartskey and use the right softkey button to close apps. Alternatively, the end call button seems to close most apps.
thanks for the replys, all helped, i've finally managed to actually close programs without having to always touch the little x in the top corner with my big clumsy thumb!
Im not really familiar with pocket windows but basically, can i create a shortcut to a specific folder. I know there are buttons linking to my documents, and on SPB plus you can have a link to my documents on your today screen, but can i choose a shortcut to a specific folder i have created, on my memory card, and put the shortcut on the today screen?
Thanks again again!
Post the .cpl file?

with the spb pocketplus plug-in, you can. click (and hold) on it and a dialog box will open, do the following:
choose Add/Remove Items...
choose Add (left softkey location)
choose Folder
select the folder that you want (you can press on the '+' sign at the storage card folder in order to choose sub-folders)

Programs Window... Link?

When you click on Programs on the Start Menu you get the Programs window, right?
How can I link to that?
I want to add it to an icon on cLaunch. Tried the "windows\start menu\programs" but it opens file explorer in that location. I want to access the same window you get if you tap "Programs" in the start menu.
Anyone?
Thanks!
erm its difficult.
The easiest way to get to the same looking window for Programs is to get hold of a file called Folderview.exe. That does it. But it only does that folder anyway.
If you can program or create a script then you can launch the programs screen by sending keystrokes to the Start menu but again only shows that folder.
If you want to show the files in any folder but in icon view rather than list then you can either get something which changes the built in file manager to show icon view or else use a separate file manager for it like Explorer (formerly gsfinder++). That way you get the same sort of look.
Sorry I dont have the links to all this stuff but it might help you searching.
Folderview.exe... can't find it. is it supposed to be part of WM6 or is it an add-on?
See if this works
From the "IPhone like..." thread, see if this works.
\Windows\fexplore.exe"\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

it's added to wm6 devices by HTC as part of the HTC today plugin.
got it. Its just what wanted. but...
Internet favorites files dont show up, but that is not so bad.
The other diference between this prog and clicking the "programs" link on the start menu is that, when I enter a folder, "Games" for example, if I press hardware key "OK", the program closes, while if i clicked the "programs" on the start menu, and entered the "Games" Folder and pressed "OK" it would go back to the original "programs" window.

Block explorer or complete delete?

hi all,
is it possible to block the explorer for users of my kaiser?
Best would be if the whole explorer was invisible to the user on my kaiser...
Or will the OS be damaged in any way?
Well, the simplest way to do it would be to delete it's shortcut from the start menu (/windows/menu start/...), or better - to cut the shortcut and paste it somewhere else (like the root folder or /My documents") just in case you need it back - it won't be a problem, since to launch a file explorer placed elsewhere than start menu, you'll need a file explorer - like a locked box with a key inside it
Of course it won't damage the OS in any way, and in case you need the shortcut back, you can move it over to menu start with activesync, or by launching the explorer the alternate way (described bellow).
Even if you don't have any file explorers in the start menu (like totalCommander), there'll still be an option to launch one in case you really need it - while holding the action button on your device tap the clock in the taskbar, select "run" from the popup menu, type "fexplore" and click "ok".
Not many people know of the second way, so if you just want too keep people (especially ones not too experienced with WM phones) away from your files, it shouldn't be a security problem and moving the shortcut should be enough. Just make sure that you don't leave shortcuts to alternate file explorers - like Total commander, resco explorer, etc. in the start menu.

Thanks. I totally forgot about that function as its been so long since I've used it.
thanks mr deimos,
this solves the problem very simple!!!

Mapping Start button directly to programs folder

Searched around for quite a while and couldn't find a solution to this, maybe someone with with more knowledge on resource hacking can help out.
Using the start menu on WM Professional devices is not conducive to single handed use, its actually quite cumbersome. I would like to remap the *on-screen* start button to simply open the programs folder ala WM Smartphone. Is this possible? I believe it would be much easier to manage on the go and would skip a step which is always beneficial. The only problem I could see is creating a link to "settings"
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Search for the application folderStartPgm.exe
And after from Settings -> Personal -> Buttons, assing the button to this application(firs must to make a shortcut points to \startmenu\programs folder
I've seen that before, and although very cool I would still like to remap the Start button and avoid an unnecessary step. Any other ideas?

cant find folderStartPgm.exe in windows folder ??!!
I don't know about mapping the Start button to bring up the applications folder, but using WA3 (or probably a registry tweak but I don't know it) you can remap the Start button to Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and have all of your applications displayed in the first drop-down menu rather than just 7. It also leaves access to Settings too...
Copy the attached file programs.lnk , to your \windows\start menu\programs , and use the buttons settings to bind the link to the program.lnk
---
To create a shortcut to a folder:
Use Total commander, browse to the location of which you want to make a shortcut, highlight the folder/file you want, from the File menu in Total Commander, choose >>>> on top , and then choose create short-cut, then save the output link to the \windows\start menu\programs.
---------------
Hope this helps

Sounds like a great alternative to the classic (limited) start menu, but I want it gone completely. It's too cumbersome for use in the car.
Anyone?

This is a great idea and rereading my post I can see how it may be slightly confusing, you see I want to change the Start menu button in the top left corner of the screen that opens the menu to directly open the programs folder. If anyone of you has used a windows mobile smartphone you know what I mean. That way all you have to do is tap the top left section of the screen and scroll to your app. no more tiny menu to hunt and peck on while trying to do important things like you know driving, or bike riding, etc...
Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys.

Me to has been looking for this. To make pressing the on screen windows icon pop up the programs folder, but one other problem, how to then access settings folder.
folderStartPgm.exe

for me the filename to start programsfolder is folderview.exe
just need a way to link it to the icon.
Good luck anyway
Try this program.
In search for a solution, you can maybe use "LargeStartmenu.cab". It makes the starmenu (and text in programs) larger. The version in the "Diamond Apps (OEM + CAB)" thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395400
works for my Touch
You can find folderStartPgm.exe here:

Games

1. Enable Hidden Default Games
Go to the Windows directory and copy bubblebreaker.exe and solitaire.exe to the games folder as shortcuts in Windows\Start Menu. Make sure to unhide system files on the device to see the games listed.
How on earth do i do that? I went to FILE EXPLORER - WINDOWS but i am lost from there. Please help.
click menu -- show all files.find bubblebreaker.exe, press and hold, choose copy, then scroll up to the folder start menu, games, click menu - edit - paste.
It doesn't let you just paste though (at least mine doesn't).
You have to paste shortcut.

The easiest way to do this is to use Resco explorer as it gives you the option to send a shortcut to the programs folder.
However as you have to pay for it I can understand why you might not want to so I had a look at trying it with the windows file explorer and here is how I did it.
Ok so in to the huge windows file and scrolled on down to BubbleBreaker and I've got 4 files with that name but only 2 have the BubbleBreaker icon. The first one is 46.0K in size and thats the .exe file we're after. The other one is just an .lnk shortcut file.
So long press on the .exe file brings up the edit menu. Select copy.
Now go up in the windows folder and in to the Folder named Start Menu, then in to Programs and finally in to Games.
Now if you give a long press on a clear bit of the screen avoiding other files you should have a menu come up giving you the option to Paste Shortcut.
Hit the button and all should be well.
Worked ok on my HD2, I'm running the standard WWE 1.66 Rom
P.S Don't forget to chose the option to show all files in explorer. Just click Menu then put a tick in the Show all files box.
