Screen turns on with messages/allerts but I wish it didn't - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi,
I tried to search the older threads but it couldn't find anything.
Could someone tell me how I could stop my phone to turn on when I get a new message or a reminder? And how can I turn off the screen when listening to mp3's on media player?
Thanks!

"I could stop my phone to turn on when I get a new message or a reminder" <-- this is a bit difficult, but tell us your concern and there may be ways around the problem.
Media player, on the playing screen,
Menu -> Options -> Buttons[Tab] -> Toggle Screen
Assign a button for Toggle screen to switch it off.

I mean when my phone is in my pocket and it reminds me of an appointment or an incoming message the screen turns on. I would like the screen remain off and just get an audio warning.

In events and notifications .. have you tried to set the alert to audio notifications .. and dont select the other visible options .. Will that be sufficient?

I agree
Has anyone figured out how to prevent the screen from turning on. I place it in my pocket (with Device Lock) and an event/notification turns the screen on but I have it set off.
Is there some master switch to say only turn screen on with the button push?

Yessir-
Go to Settings->Sounds And Notifications -> after selecting the triggger you want (new email, sms, mms, etc.) then untick the box that says 'display on screen' or something like that. Then the noise will sound, light goes amber, and vibrate still work, but wont trigger the screen to turn on in order to display the message. I use this method for emails, but let sms show up on screen so I can read them w/o going into palm messaging app...

No notification when receive a text/sms in sleep mode

Hey guys- I just got my MDA on Monday, and love it. I have done all sorts of reg hacks and have made this device truely awesome. I have one problem though. If I am in class, or work, I put the device in sleep (or standby mode), to save battery life. THe problem that I have is that I do not get a notification when I receive a text. When I get a call, itll wake up and vibrate and everything, but nothing happens when I get messages.
It happens when I have it on vibrate, or on loud.
Under Settings : Sounds and Notifications, I have the boxes checked for Sounds Tab, "Events", "Programs" and under that "Notifications (alarms, reminders)"
Then in the Notifications Tab, I have all boxes selected for the "Messaging: New Text message".
What I would like to happen, is receive a nice long vibration, so that I know that I have a message. I would also like the screen to come on with a notification so that I know that I have a message.
From what I have read, the screen will come on, then go back off, but I need it to stay on.
Any Ideas???

That's quite diffirent, i have all boxes checked for the "Messaging: New Text Message" and i alwayls received a screen to come on with a notification when a sms came even my device is in sleep mode
There is should be some problem with your device regarding its notification functions.
If you are using other software which can set ring/notification profiles, pls try to remove it
If problem still persists, i believe only a hardreset could bring it back to normal
Good luck

HTC 8525 notification profiles?

Hi all,
I have a question about the AT&T 8525. I already know how to set the notifications for the incoming calls and text messages using the Sound & Notification function. However, if I want to quickly change from sound notification to vibrate notification, e.g. when in a meeting, I have to go to that function again and change vibration to each events. I also know a quicker way to do is tap the volume icon and change the state to vibrate.
The question is whether there is a possible to create profiles for some occasions, such as outside, meeting, silence..., in which I can set the notifications for the events separately, and map that function to a button so that I can immediately change the profile by pressing that button rather than tap this and that, just like the way it can be done with the iPhone or V3i, for example.
Thank you very much all you guys.
PS: I'm using Tai_Sw's ROM - Manila2D 21893 Black 3G

[Q] Calender and text notification questions

1) Where can i set the calender's notification? Also where can i set it so that i pop up a screen at the alarm time, not just a small icon in the notification bar?
2) Any way to disable the samsung calender or make the google calender the default when creating a new event? I hate Samsung for adding its own calender and contact apps.
3) When i get a text message, the notification turn on screen and wont turn off, I waited for about 5 mins. I checked the screen timeout and it is set at 30 secs. Anyway to make it turn off screen after a few seconds? or not turn on the screen at all?
Found a fix for the screen wont turn off issue. I believe this is a bug with the phone. If i turn on the Puzzle Lock then it work just fine. If i turn off the Puzzle Lock then the screen wont turn off as described.
Anyone else know the answer for the other two questions?

[Q] Battery charged alert OFF

So how do I turn this alert off.
Problem is that it wakes the whole house at night when I leave phone chargeing.
As I understand it, it is in the same category of signals as an SMS.
Do want to hear when SMS received.
I have gone through the menus 101 times.
There are 2 things.
1 is default notification. Settings->Sound->notifications (The notification center)
2 is the sound each application will give when notified. This overrides the 1
If the app has been set to default (which it normally is) then it tell the phone to sound the default notification as defined in 1
So in your case go to 1 and make it silent (this will silence all notification even full charge one. ringtone is not effected)
Now since u still want SMS/GMAIL/Calendar etc to notify. Open those apps, go to their settings and select the sound you want to hear when they want to notify. Just open them and press menu, select settings and see notification options and configure it in the app itself to sound whatever notification you want to hear. In my case SMS/Gmail/K9/GV/Calendar etc have different sounds so I know if it needs immediate attention.
THANK YOU, I would never have figured this out myself.
Followed your description, and I'm sure it works.

SMS Content on Lock Screen

I used to be able to see who SMS Texts were actually from on the lock screen with my S6. Now that I have the S8, it only shows that I have an SMS message and it won't show me who it's from unless I actually go into the Messages App? How do I make the sender visible on the lock screen?

Go to settings -> Lock screen and security -> Notifications -> make sure it's on , then go into that menu and make sure you do not have Hide content or notification icons only turned on - also make sure the toggle for all apps is turned on too
Also you have to be using the crappy stock Samsung Messages app, otherwise you won't get that little bubble notification or the edge screen light up. Was very annoyed to see both of those things disabled from working if you use Android Messages or any other app.

I went to Settings > Lock screen and security > Notifications (which is turned on) and then into that menu. In that menu I have the "Hide Content" toggle turned off - the "Notification icons only - Hide notification details and show only the icon" toggle turned off. The toggle for "All Apps" is On. But when I get a SMS message, it only shows "Messages" on the lock screen... not who it's actually from like it used to do with my Galaxy S6. What am I doing wrong?

Not anymore - Textra jsut updated last night and it has the option for Android heads up notification (ie Edge lighting) so you can choose which style.
Jsut tested and it works perfectly

Ever figure this out? I can't. I have done all of the above and gone into the message app and allowed for content to be displayed and gone into the always on display and allowed for content to be displayed. I am using the native message app. I still just get a message icon on my lock screen. No content. Super frustrating!
Reset all setting

I has the same issue. I had googled a million times. Finally had a bright idea.... Go to setting > about phone > down at the bottom should say reset > reset all settings.
This doesn't erase your phone, only sets it back to default stiff like background, notifications, ringtones etc. BUT it finally shows the messages!
Any other suggestions on this? I've tried everything in this thread, including resetting my settings to default. Driving me nuts. After being on the pixel for the past 7 months until now, I've gotten very used to being able to see previews on the lock screen and replying from the lock screen too. I have all the appropriate settings checked that should be allowing me to see previews, but it doesn't. All I want is for the screen to briefly wake up when a text comes through, and to be able to preview it. Is this supposed to be possible on the S8?

SAME ISSUES HERE -- samsung s8/t-mobile
it seems as though the "show content" option for notifications has disappeared on the Samsung S8... I've tried everything i can think of and searched several boards and come up unsuccessful... the only options for notifications on a lock screen (at least for me - Samsung S8 on t-mobile) are: :hide content" or "do not show notifications".. both of which are not helpful when attempting to view the sender's name while hiding their actual text... HELP!
It works on textra under settings then customise notifications then at the bottom u will see privacy settings in there u can have it to show contact but hide message. Hope that's what you wanted. Cheers.

The only way I found to get to the lock screen and view/reply to text message is to double tap the home button first.
It's anoying additional step, but I'm trying to get used to it.

I am not sure if you have found a fix for this or not but.... Last week I accidentally factory reset my phone and lost everything. I still had my old phone and was able to transfer all that was there back over, but my screen stopped lighting up with new notifications. After spending the last hour trying to fix it I was successful!
Settings > Apps> Messages > gear icon above Force Stop > About Messages > update
I really hope this helps others.
