msgbox.wav remove or change? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a sound called msgbox.wav that is very annoying. I use a onebridgeclient for checking my work email and everytime this connects I get this msgbox clunky sound. I found the file but I cannot remove it or change it to something else because it is writeprotected. Is there anything I can do?. I cannot change the sound in normal settings. I have shut every sound down and still it goes of when connecting to my inbox.

Try using TotalCommander, freeware file manager. It can replace most protected files (copy over it)
If in any cases that it is not able to, the program may be using it. Try disabling the problem by either some TaskManager, or remove them from the start list, and try again. Then re-enable the program.
I hate programs that tried to be funny with so call 'real-sound' effects.

I just tried to delete it using resco file explorer, didn't work. Gives me a message that the file is in ROM memory and can't be deleted, is there really nothing I can do?

You can't delete the file, you have to overwrite it as hanmin says above, just create a wav file with no sound, make sure you name it msgbox.wav and paste it in your windows directory, a warning will come up asking if you want to write over it, just click ok and bobs your uncle, sorted!

Games Folder

Here's what happened...
There was an icon inside my games folder that didnt do anything. Clicking it just gave me an error (forgot the error already). I took the risk and deleted the icon. After a reset, my Games folder was showing up as an ordinary folder (no card icon below it).
Can anyone copy their Games folder and attach to this post??? Or maybe just give me the solution...
~ishtangli
maybe that's a glitch in the system files... why don't you just hard reset your phone? back up your contacts and calendar of course..
Attached is the file you have deleted. This file is the icon for the Games folder (it's actually a shortcut file). You can customize the icon of any folder by creating a file named "icon.lnk" with a content similar below:
1#ceshell.dll,-162
Using a 3rd party File Explorer (e.g. Resco), you will be able to see this file. Using the defaul File Explorer, you will only be able to see this file when you turn on "View All Files" option (tap and hold on any open area of the default File Explorer and this option will be shown on the context menu).
In my experience, this icon appears inside the Games folder when I go through Start -> Programs -> Games when the "View All Files" option is turned on. Try turning it off and this icon file disappears.
Have fun,
YajP
Marc,
It would take too long to restore all my applications and settings if i Hard Reset.
File didnt work. Placed it inside the Games folder and reset my device. Have you had experience restoring any of these icon files?
~ishtangli
Nope, didn't have such problem. I also deleted that icon.lnk in the Games folder before thinking that it was installed wrongfully by some of the 3rd party apps... to my surprise, the Games folder was reduced to an ordinary folder icon when I go to the Programs menu. So what I did was got that file from one of my colleagues, copied it to my device and tried to solve the issue of hiding that icon file. Below are the current screen shots from my pocket pc... hope it helps...
ishtangli, my ROM is still the stock one: 1.66 WWE... so am not sure if the functionality was changed in other ROM upgrades (1.72, WM2003SE) =)
that's a very possible suggestion! i think the functionality wouldnt change in other rom versions.. i'd say go with the RESCO solution
Maybe some kind soul could post their entire games folder...
~ishtangli
Here it is...
still didnt work. hmmm.... seems kinda simple but it just wont work. WM2003SE thing?!?! Whatever it is, im not hard resetting my device just to get some damn icon back. Thanks guys! If you find any solution, post it here aite...

Games Icon
Try this.
Download, unzip and copy the icon.lnk file within to the /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Games folder.
It is a shortcut to target the shell *.dll file that contains the icon that is displayed for the games folder: shellres.dll,-8229
So that must be the difference, the link to the icon file...
from
1#ceshell.dll,-162 (ROM1.66)
to
shellres.dll,-8229 (WM2003SE)...
Yeah

Overwriting system files

on my qtek9100 there are a couple of sounds that i would like te change, ie. the click sound when opening start in the Today screen. These sounds however are sytemfiles. I tried changing the names, deleting, moving. Everything. But it's not possible for me to change the sounds. Does anyone have a good tip on how it is possible to change /delete/ update the systemfiles of the Qtek9100?

Any files in the rom cannot be deleted but they can be overwritten (the file is still there in the rom under the file you just placed on it). It cannot be done with the stock file explorer, use gsfinder (my personal fav) http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1203 or total commander 2
I tried it with TC and tested it by trying to delete a file called Aloutte.mid in the windows dir.
This is a file that's anoying me from the go since it's a music file that I would like removed from my phone. But even TC responded with a message that 1 file could not be removed. As it's a system file. If I want to change the clicksound from start, are you saying I should rename the files first and then copy the desired sound (using the name that the original soundfile uses) to the windows directory? Is that the way to overwrite the systemsounds?

Yes that is the correct way. The only way to silence aloutte.mid is to overwrite it with a silent mid file.

Is there a way to edit/modify a protected file in \Windows?

Hi
I'd like to edit the file Preconfig.txt in \Windows. This file is protected. Is there any way to make a file in \Windows writable?
Thank you
Jean-Yves
If I recall correctly, you can copy the file out of the windows directory to another directory and then paste it back over the top of the protected one and then you can edit it.
I may be wrong though, so sorry if I'm leading you up the garden path!
What Codenix said is true, if the file is inside the ROM.
If the file is 'protected' in terms of attributes, you can use Total Commander to disable the attribute first.
I tried removing the read-only/system attributes in Total Commander in some \Windows files on my x01ht, but every time the attributes are reseted back! How to avoid this?!?
yes i have the same problem with you~~
although i use active sync to copy the files to ppc \windows
it also block me and say protected
and i want to copy a new phcanOverbmp.dll replace the old one....
what should i do???
can some brother help~!!!
Some files are in use and cant be unprotected and written over in this manner.. the only way to do it when it fails like that is to cook your own rom... which we are still trying to do, but get closer every day
And for the phcanOverbmp.dll we have cabs in the upgrading forum for this.. read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287829
and why if i want to edit my start menu items from ASync it don't work?
The files are unprotected but from active sync explorer i can't delete/move it... with resco explorer there are no problems!..
Also.... it interrupt file transfers if i try to copy thumbs.db.. included in win folders :x

I had the same problem - ActiveSync seems to not have the necessary rights for these files. The methods described here solved the problem for me. Yes, the text behind the link talks about problems with registry access, but the reasons and solutions for both problems are the same.

That may or may not be the same problem. I would guess thumbs.db may just be in use (i.e., opened).

Original Jade notification tones

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is a way to put back the original jade notification tones. I'm currently using one of Ironeagle's featherlite roms and it removed a lot of the original sounds.
The main one I need is the notice sound after the other party hands up or the call disconnects. Currently when the call disconnects or other party hangs up, it just has a "static" type of sound and I'm assuming it is suppose to be the short notification clip.
If any of you have the file and know where to replace it in the phone, please help me
Thanks!
For the call disconnection sound, I think you're looking for the file CALLDROP.MID found in the Windows folder...
Try downloading the Jade_Kitchen... It will have all the files of a stock ROM in the OEM or SYS folder... Just copy them over to your phone...
HTH!
thank you! I downloaded the file, but don't even know where to find it or how to insert it back into the phone

easy way.. download the file again. This time remember, write down the file name. Copy the file to \windows folder in your phone. I assume you know how to sync your phone to your PC.

Thanks, but I'm really having trouble finding the sound file in the "KITCHEN" files There are so many different folders
Try searching your PC for calldrop.mid...

HTC HD2 own sms tone, and random screens on desktop.

I had my own call tone to sms and mail, but when my phone restarted (I had to because it needed it, it was so slow) everything was gone on my phone. I can't remember where I have to copy my sound files, so the phone can get them and use them in sms and mail tones. I hope someone out here can help me. I can't remeber where I had them.
I wonder also In Windows 7 can the backround on the desktop switch every 5. minutes if I want, is this possible in htc hd2 I have many backgrounds I want to use.
When you say 'restarted' it, you mean you wiped the phone back to factory default?
Yes I have.
Sorry I missread your first question. You can put them in Device\Windows\Rings and it will work like a charm.
*Edit* Or Device\My Documents\My Ringtones.

You will need to insert your custom ringtones into these folders. The second may well be a hidden folder, I use Resco Explorer so I see all hidden files and folders.
Resco file explorer can't find these files in rings folder. How can I copy these files in it? My computer can't find any folder called windows, but resco explorer on my phone, it finds windows folder.

Open Resco File Explorer go to menu, options, general and then the browser tab, uncheck all of the boxes and you will see all hidden files and folders.
I got it now, I used file explorer. I Marked the files, got in to Send To, Add/Delete and made a new folder with name Rings and the files have now being copyed in there. Now it's working. Thank you
