Question about the radio-only upgrades... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all,
I currently have the HTC Tytn with the original ROM on it. I'm on Cingular's network, and am having the problem where the call either gets dropped completely or temporarily when the phone tries to "hand off" 3G to 2G. Are any of the radio-only upgrades that are on the ftp supposed to address this issue? I'm not looking to change the ROM. I'm currently on radio verion 1.03
Thanks in advance!
SP

I have a TyTn on Cingular as well. I upgraded to 1.20 radio ROM and haven't experienced any problems you're having moving to/from 3G areas.

Hi sf,
Thanks for the reply... are you also still on the original Tytn ROM as well? (for everything else but the radio...)

yes, i'm on the original HTC ROM, just upgraded the radio.

The best combination is the original HTC ROM + 1.16 RadioROM from what I have heard around ..

Great, thanks a ton guys. I'll give it a whirl.

I'm having much better battery performance with the HTC ROM and the 1.20 radio than I did with the 1.16 radio.

Goesto11, did you have any installation problems during or after the install with the 1.20 radio? I read a couple other posts where some additional tweaks needed to be made afterwards, but I'm thinking now that that was with the Cingular ROM.
Thanks,
SP

1.20 Radio was actually from the latest iMate ROM from what I remember .. might want to verify ..
latest Cingular RadioROM was 1.16 ..

Thanks GJ.

Nope, no installation problems at all (follow the directions and you should be fine).

I am wondering the same thing. I upgraded, but I haven't driven through any of the troubled areas yet. I guess we'll see on the drive home.

I'll install it today and report on it asap. A particular area that I go through on the way home from work attempts the hand off a good 80% of the time.

Oh yeah, one more (stupid) question...
If I install the 1.20 radio, then later end up doing a hard reset... after the hard-reset, will I end up with the original HTC radio, or the updated one?

Good question .. You will then always have an updated RadioROM .. even after a hard reset

Ok cool, thanks. I'm glad it was a relatively not-too-stupid question

Yeah, I did this yesterday. Your updated Radio ROM sticks with the device.
But what about installing an entirely new ROM; this overwrites the radio ROM right?

Yes, this is correct. A "normal/standard" ROM update will overwrite the System ROM, the Extended ROM, and the Radio ROM.

I can't seem to dowload a good file to unzip. It says "not a valid pocketpc app".

The ROM updates need to be run from a WinXP PC with an ActiveSync/USB connection to the Hermes...
and remember, Flashing can be a dangerous business, even if you know what you're doing... use at your own risk!

i-mate Radio v1.05.00 WWE versus v1.10.00 US ?

Hi, has anyone figured out what the difference between the i-mate Radio v1.05.00 WWE and the v1.1.0.00 US is ?
Any one using the v1.10.00 outside the US ? Any problems or hints ?
Torsten
hey,
As far as i know, the (1.10.00 radio version) is meant to be used only in the US, or at least on 850 networks. so i guess u can't compare these two.

i use it at european gsm (russia, dalsvyaz) standart 900/1800.
but i don't know which things changed
anybody knows ?
where to get it and i will give it a try... we use here gsm 900....
I wonder if this will fix the problem some of us are having with the 1.6 ROM upgrade with not being able to re-connect to GPRS without a soft reset or switching flight mode on/off. Any thoughts?
to many drinks on my side!
This is a quote from the i-mate
ROM builds with radio versions 1.05.00 and 1.10.00 all include audio enhancements for voice calls. They also contain the improved camera driver. We are working hard to deliver these new builds to our full suite of languages.
indicates PM10C, then the customer should upgrade with the North American JAM ROM Build.
If the model number indicates PM10A, then the customer should upgrade with the Generic Worldwide English ROM Build. You will not be able to install the North American JAM (850) ROM. This WWE build does not include the connection settings for the US operators found in the North American build, though these are all available to download separately from clubimate™.
@Mashie,
i have the same problem my gprs keeps disconneting on and off... sometimes it works for a few minutes and then start disconneting.... and i have to do a soft-rest to get it to work again....... does anyone else has the same problem?? or a fix?

PapaDocta, how did you install it?
Do the usual, unzip and delete all .nbf's except radio.nbf?
Or is it more complicated?
thks all for sharing experiences, just managed to upgrade (only) radio rom to 1.10 (the JAM USA one). I used all the files except the NK_ , the ms_ and maupgradeut which I replaced with the maupgradeut_NOID that I downloaded from the ftp. USB connection in Activesync was disabled and I put my mini in bootloader mode before the upgrade...... and it went smoothly.
My network is also 900 and it works just fine.
Signal strength, comparing to 1.05 is the same, only it seems that the GPRS icon is always shown (when it's available) which was not the case with 1.05
here ya go... and my way of upgrading was i didn't disable anything just run the maupgradeut_NOID once and the device went into the bootloader mode and i got the country error i ignored it and run maupgradeut_NOID again without resting the device.. and all worked but i advice using the above steps cuz it has been tested before...... here is the files you requested and i renamed the maupgradeut_NOID to maupgradeut so don't panic ;-)
enjoy
Thanks a TON for this! I installed on my S100 and the GPRS now works perfectly. I can connect and disconnect without having to turn flight mode off/on.

It depends on how you are upgrading. If you are using the files in the .rar file that Papa posted then you need to run MaUpgradeUT.exe and it will put your device in Bootloader mode. Once you get the country ID error, I closed that window and ran MaUpgardeUT.exe again and the upgrade went flawlesly. Hard Reset to get out of BL mode and set your device back up.
Hope this helps...

Hi everyone.
Do I need to backup the RAM or ROM before upgrading radio's ROM?
Does the radio 1.10.0 USA means for O2 XDAII mini?
Thank you in advance.

if you want u can just backup ur data... cuz afte u upgrade the device will auto hard rest.... and you can use it on O2 XDAII mini shouldn't be a problem.....
if you don't have problems with ur current radio then don't upgrade... if you just curious then go for it.
good luck
Thanks papadocta.
Well, I am curius
Beside, I hope 1 extra bar signal strength (that reported by those upgraded to 1.05.0 WWE and 1.10.0 USA) will save my O2 XDA II mini's battery longer.
Is it correct that 1.10.0 USA is newer than 1.05.0 WWE? Because I read somewhere is not always true. Anyone can confirm?
Thanks again.

qtek 9100 and upgrading roms

I have a qtek 9100 and i would like to update roms and such. Ive read the wiki thing but am still quite confused.
I have...
ROM 1.1.7.5
radio 01.01.10
extROM 1.1.7.105
I would like to know which would be the best roms to upgrade to. also are there any updates for windows mobile 5.0? im using 5.1.70
Thanks!
Use a straight upgrade to ftp://[email protected]/Wi...digy_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
Its an aku2 rom and won't void your warranty
No need to unlock device although if you feel you maybe try a non-qtek rom in the future then cid unlock first. Rom upgrade is wm5 upgrade.
the link doesnt work for me. any other places to get it?
Go here ftp://[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/
goto qtek section and find it there. You must use internet explorer and password is xda
so is that the only thing i should update?? also what program do i use to update? and how did you overclock your 9100?? much appreciated

Updating your rom is a good start.
Recommend you install registry wizard for registry tweaks http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725&highlight=registry+wizard

depends on wether the update file was tweaked or not.
one can choose to upgrade any of the ROMs individually. My first try was the radio ROM (not comfortable in messing with other areas ) that someone removed the other ROMs and i got it from the ftp section

Okay, it's better do it instead of bricking.... ...Cheers....
Your right peter if people still are cid unlocked after uspl unlocking - i.e. there spl is still 1.11.0000 they dont need to run it again. Its just a good rule especially for noobs.
Changes?
Thanks for new radio, but i have one question. Is it needed to repeat install every new GSM radio? I have now 2.97.90...What are the benefits and differences?
plz another link to download trouble with megaupload
In theory newer gsm radio has better battery life and reception - on testing all good at the moment.
I'll upload to rapidshare too.
THANK YOU
meschle MERCI it ' s good radio...
Thanks, just download it and will test it ...
Thanks Mark
Cheers!

Will I have to backup my device prior to upgrading the radio, or will my info etc still be in place?
in place, ive done radio rom upgrades a dozern times and never lost data yet.
although I have problems with this rom. infact any radio above 02.94.90.
I have a T-Mobile MDA III in the UK. Any rom over 02.94.90 constantly says I am roaming and causes push mail and some others to stop. Contacted T-Mob, replaced sim, hard reset etc and the only thing that stopped it was to downgrade the radio rom.

Problem after installing radio 1.59.46.12

I have installed this radio and now under command manager I can't activate wi-fi since the button is now greyish. Actually the wi-fi works if activated from setting but it's still annoying. Is there a way to fix it or is just a radio issue?
Rom: Kostas244_ROM3g_23016_FINAL_B1
First say hello for your first post and give us more detail about your configuration.
SPL ? ROM ? old radio ? version ?
Oh, sorry about that. I registered some month ago so I though I had alredy made some post here...Let's start all over again
Hi everyone this is my first post here and I need some help.
I just upgraded my Polaris from 3LIT3 VI (Windows 6.1) to Kostas244_ROM3g_23016_FINAL_B1 (Windows 6.5). Everything was working fine until this morning when I upgraded my radio from 1.65.30.09, that was included in my old ROM, to 1.59.46.12.
The problem is that I can't activate wi-fi from the command manager anymore because its button is now disable but if I use the connection settings to activate it everything works.
Any idea to fix this issue?
Known problem, which might sometimes occur. Try to Hardreset
once or twice and most likely the Wifi button will be available
again as sudden as it greyed out. Once it's working it will
stay working.
Olioaglio
Thank you!
After one hard reset I got back the wi-fi button. Anyway I think a sticky thread about radios with their problem and feature would be great .
What is the diffence between these two radios 1.59.42.15 (my current) and 1.59.46.12? I read that 1.59.46.12 was newer but is it recommended to upgrade? Are there any benefits to signal strength or the like?

You can upgrade and see for yourself what radio version is best for you and your location....From 1.59.46.12 you can downgrade easily to your previous radio if it's not good for you.

Can Radio firmware version be changed without updating the main rom

I was just wondering if i can update the radio software/firmware on my phone to a newer one without having to install a newer rom and if i can what is the best version for use with O2-UK. Is there also a chance it may solve the sms not being recieved issue?
I currently have 2.07 radio installed (came installed on the phone from new) and i have seen mentions of 2.10 and 2.11 radio. I've also see in the last few days somone saying they use the taiwan radio for the uk to give better signal strangth. How does that work?
Yes, it can be done...dont know the tread but will see if I can find it!

Thank you!
That's a good question actually, I hadn't thought of that.

For installing a RADIO ROM you need HardSPL installed to your device.
Rename the extracted file to "RUU_Signed.nbh" and flash with the CustomRUU: it won't hardreset your device.

And it's true, the latest radio (in my case 2.10.50.08_2) works brilliantly with my O2 sim. Also, when you select a network (I use Energy's roms) Select O2 PrePay. Those are the correct settings

Thanks for the link. I've installed 1.42.hspl and the radio from the link provided so lets see what happens.
there are also 2.10.50.26_2 & 2.10.50.28_2 raidios all off them work ok on o2 but i have found 2.10.50.19_2 the best signal in my area of the uk.
this does seem to have improved my signal but if i walk round the corner from the flat to a mates house i couldn't get a 3G signal at all so we will see if this helps
