Can activate Microsoft Reader - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I tried to activate Microsoft Reader and can't make it work. It keeps showing a message that said that I need a Pocket PC 2000 or higher. I have a Cingular 8125 with 2.25 ROM and Wolski Tweaks.
Can some one help me read my books on my Wizard?
Thanks
Diego

You're missing a file on your PDA: OEMinfo.xml
This file should be in your /Windows directory.
It has something to do with OEM's. They have to provide this file, but they lack to place it on the device. (As it was missing on my i-Mate K-Jam)
If you're missing this file, you can contact MS reader in the US:
[email protected]
Mention your device, and they will send you the correct file.
(But you can also lend it from another device which has the file  )

Thanks for the reply. I contacted MS and asked for a copy of this file but I don't know how fast are they going to answer. Can you send me a copy of this file?
Thanks
Diego

Normally they are pretty fast, within 2 working days.
If they don't, contact me, and I will find one for you.
I am a little reluctant to send a file, because I don't know if that's your device id.
As you might know, you can only register the same device a few times, and if you start using my id...... I might fool myself in the long run. :?

Maybe this can help you temporarily. Convert you LIT, then no need for activaiton.

Adding programs in ROM

Does anybody know how to add software in ROM.
I succcesfully added small 1-file programs (and a couple of 2/3 file programs) using mkrom.
I often needed to modify the default.reg file to achieve this...
But how do I install more complex programs like Batterybar/Journalbar and Fonix Voicedial ?
I hope someons has the answer!
its not easy. u have to use the snap utility to find out what changes were made and manually add each entry into default.reg file. also if any files need to be somewhere other than windows directory u have to copy them to ram via the initobj.txt file.
alex
Thanks, that worked....
It took some time though!

Cool! People are figuring out how this works!
It has to be noted that putting files in any other place than Windows means you're making a RAM copy, which ofcourse uses RAM you could use for other things. So it would be better to figure out how to convince the software to run from Windows instead, which, sometimes after a little tinkering, has worked for us in all cases.
If need be, you can also try creating a link to the program in Windows, and copy that instead of the real file.

that's true. but some apps want to put something else where. for example Pocket Plus has 4 txt files which it modifies during use, so they have to be copied to RAM otherwise it wouldn't be able to modify it. some apps put dlls to \windows\appmgr, so i have to add that. so far i added Pocket Plus 1.2, Resco File explorer 2003, Soft Reset, and Pocket Gamer D9 dialer, as well as i localized it to US specs. the only thing i can't figure out yet is how to add T-mobile USA GPRS configuration to the auto setup.
XDA developer Peter Poelman can you share on how to do this?
thanks
alex
Laundry list of things to add to ROM
I have a laundry list of things to add into the ROM. I'm sure it all won't fit, but I'm very energized about hearing what you guys have been saying.
I have a legal copy of battery/journal bar, fonix voice suite + dial, pocket informant, and All Locations Traffic Counter. Additionally I am most certainly interested in getting T-Mobile US settings setup in the autoconfig.
I'm far from a UNIX guy, but I have Cygwin now installed and I'm working on getting Perl setup. One of the guys in my department helped me build SER1.1 on his Linux box.
I've had the T2Tech guys squeeze 128M inside the phone (64/64) so I'd like to add the driver for it into ROM so I can use it after a hard reset without having to dig out the installer.
If there's any assistance I can lend along the way please let me know.
MAXLW can you shoot me some basic instructions for Fonix and Battery/Journal bar?
Thanks all for the great tool!

US T-Mobile PPC-PE 128M SER1.1
rdm128,
Are u able to access 128mb of ram after u did the ser1.1? i heard it didn't work with the current drivers by ppctechs.
I doubt Fonix will work in the ROM as there are about 100 or so files that need to be copied as well as i'm not sure which files are being modified by the program and if they are being modified you will need to do a Ram copy before u can use it. all locations i guess u don't need either as t-mobile now offers unlimited GPRS. PI i'm not sure how its going to react to ROM install but u can try it and let me know if it works as i want to add it.
alex
128M w/ SER1.1
The 128 upgrade is split into 64M RAM and 64M "t2t storage card". I am able to access both of them quite easily with the driver installed.
The most impressive part, though it does make sense, is that I have only done soft resets and never a power cycle when installing the SER1.1 and therefore all files are still intact in the t2t storage card. Not bad for volatile RAM!
The only Fonix I'd really like in ROM is Voice Dial. I think I can get PI to work only because of the directory structure it uses. It places lots of files in the windows directory, but then puts all the 'writeable' files in the WebIS folder in my documents (at least as far as I can tell so far).
I'm just starting to play with snapview (since it came on SER1.1) to see what it will take to get this stuff crammed into ROM.

Modifiying the Main ROM nk.nbf

Hi all, love the site btw
I have been asked by my employer to customize an XDAIIi so that basicly none of the O2 rubbish is installed, phone features and additional software are gone and our own PPC application inserted into the ExtROM to load everytime the device is Hard Rest....
With the help of this forum, HTC64 Extended ROM Tool.exe and Extra Drive Creator i have managed to do what the boss has asked.
Now i still need to trim more fat so to speak...
I understand that the Main ROM is located in nk.nbf, but the methods used to edit the ExtROM are failing....basicly i want to remove all the main .exe files so that ppl cannot use the device for anything else but our software.
Things like File Explorer, Games, etc all need to be trashed because the ppl using these things are not allowed to play...its for work only and one application,
Are there any guides or suggestions on how to edit the main ROM if this is at all possible...
I would appreciate any help available....and i thank you all in advance
To date there is no way of editing the nk.nbf on the Alpine. I believe someone has managed to decode it but encoding it has proved more of a pain in the arse and he has, after a lot of effort, ditched the idea.
It's a shame it can't be done from a personal point of view but that's the way things go......
You could look at Spb Kiosk - it permits you to control what is and isn't available. It might do what you need. It's enterprise priced though... $$$$!

Orange SPV M3100 lacking BT SIM Access Profile

I have now had my M3100 for a week now and in some ways it is excellent in others frustrating.
There are some specific aspects I would love to change however the main one that is frustrating me today is that SIM Access Profile is described in the User Manual (the first one I have seen from Orange that has not been rewritten Orange stylee and so I presume is from HTC) but it is not accessible.
Full instructions are given for SAP and when you got to Programs the SAPSettings program is not there.
I presume Orange have removed this so that they can protect their Memory Mate revenues, in the same way MSN has been removed to protext SMS revenues.
Is it possible to restore SAPSettings to the phone - is it still on there but simply 'turned off'?
Assistance to someone not too technical would be appreciated.
Other questions include how to reorder my contact list by first name - Symbian does this but not WinMob as far as I can see.
Thanks in anticipation
Trout
I think Orange actually deletes them during their customisation. There's 4 files (well, 3 plus a link) called sapsettings which need to go into your windows folder on the M3100. I've posted them to the ftp server just now - I'll post a link once they're available for download or just keep checking - I called the file sapsettings.zip. I've copied these onto my M3100 (from a friend's TyTn) and all works fine.
When I say works, I mean that they run fine. Actually, the SAP functionality in the current rom for the TyTn and the M3100 is pretty poor and doesn't work very well. They're updating it in a "forthcoming" rom - don't know when, but hopefully soon.

Moved to safe heaven, file is here.
Fantastic guys - thanks for your help
Sorry - I am back.
I have loaded all four files into the Windows folder and when I try and start the SAPSettings program get this message.
"The file 'SAPSettings' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file"
I have loaded all four files from the ZIP and they all transferred OK. Do I need to update the registry or am I just missing something really obvious.
TIA it is my first time 'under the covers' of a Windows mobile.
Trout
I have tried re-downloading and reinstalling these four files into the WINDOWS folder. Still get the same message.
Any help please guys and gals?
I don't get a program icon in the program window - I can only see the executable in when using File Explorer in the folder where I installed it.

Altering name/location of "My Documents" (+ Extended ROM & Basic/Corporate questions)

Altering name/location of "My Documents" (+ Extended ROM & Basic/Corporate questions)
Hi,
I've been lurking at these forums for quite a while (after a Google search to determine why I couldn't receive files over Bluetooth led me here) and I recently registered so I could ask a question I apologise for the length of this post and offer [virtual] coffee & cookies & thanks in advance to anyone who bothers to read it all the way through! I swear I did try to keep it short, but sadly that's never been one of my strong points ;P
These are the details of the phone I have:
- HTC Wizard (WIZA200) branded as an 'O2 XDA Mini S' (G4).
- 1GB MiniSD card installed.
- IPL/SPL: 2.21.0001
- ROM Version: 2.21.4.1 WWE
- Radio Version: 02.07.10
- Protocol Version: 413.1.03
To the best of my knowledge my Wizard is a G4 (it seems to meet the criteria posted at the top of this G3 unlocking thread) and I've done some searching & reading, so I'm aware that there are limitations to what I can do unless I'm prepared to pay to have my phone CID unlocked which... I'm not, honestly. I'd love to play about with different ROMS but it isn't a priority at the moment -- my Wizard is running relatively well (and infinitely faster without the O2 gunk).
However (isn't there always a 'however'? heh) I have a couple of questions I haven't been able to answer for myself...
Question 1:
I hard-reset my phone earlier today with the intention of reinstalling to Corporate (to remove the O2 standard software, which sucks and takes up more space than I'm prepared to compromise) and... corporate wasn't there. I know you only get a few seconds to choose and I was watching for it like a hawk, but my Wizard didn't give me the option, it just automatically defaulted to basic.
I know I've seen it show up before... but I hard-reset twice more after the first attempt and it didn't show up on any of the three tries. I was able to use the information in this FAQ instead and soft-reset before the O2 crap could force itself on my precious Wizard, but I'm curious as to why I no longer seem to have the Corporate option.
Can anyone suggest a reason why this is? Has anyone run into this little Wizard 'quirk' before? Is it an O2 bug? Something else?
Question 2:
I'd like to rename my "My Documents" folder to "Documents" and place it on my storage card. I've found the instructions for altering its location at the Wiki and followed them to the letter -- they worked perfectly -- but I can't seem to permanently rename the folder. I know it's a silly little thing to want to change but the Windows style of naming it "My Documents" instead of just "Documents" has irritated me (somewhat irrationally, I'll admit, heh) for years.
I use a MacBookPro as my primary computer (though I do have a desktop PC as well) and I wanted to store my files on my storage card in a similar file structure, i.e.:
Code:
\Storage_Card
\Documents
\Photos
\Videos
\Program Files
...etc, instead of having everything store itself inside "My Documents".
Using Total Commander (found via a post from these forums; couldn't live without it!) I've modified the filepaths I found at the following locations:
Code:
\\\registry\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\Folder\
\\\registry\HKLM\Explorer\Shell Folders\
\\\registry\HKCU\Software\IA Style\IA CameraWizard(Pocket PC)\3.00\Strings\
...but it doesn't seem to have helped me out much. When I take a picture, for example, it re-creates the "My Documents" folder I renamed to "Documents" and stores the photo in a "My Pictures" folder within it. I've altered filepaths in other registry folders before as well (..and now I wish I'd written them down!) but nothing I've found and altered so far seems to solve the problem.
Is it at all possible to change this permanently? I really, really hate the "My [whatever]" format and would love to be free of it, but if it isn't then I'll reset again to remove the mods I've made so far -- I don't want to be half&half, that's bound to cause me a problem later on. If it's possible though, even if it's tricky, I'd love someone to let me know how to change it. Another night of combing through the registry trying to figure it out myself is going to drive me insane!
Question 3:
If I navigate to "\Extended_ROM\" with Total Commander, I can delete the O2 files stored there (which I didn't think I could do with a G4 but I'm not complaining). However... after a soft reset, they're back. I don't have any of them installed (hello, free memory!) and they let me delete them, so I'm not sure exactly why they keep restoring themselves.
Can anyone shed some light on why I can't delete these "lovely" pieces of software permanently? Are any of them useful and worth installing? The Java voice-calling/MMS one? None of them?
If you made it through the whole post, thank you! If you need me to clarify anything further, just let me know and I'll do my best to provide the information.
This forum & all of you who post here to help others out are awesome Thanks for building such a useful and interesting resource!

Excel Saving problem

I've searched but cannot find any info about this.
I recently upgraded to a 8125 (WM5)from a iPAQ 2215 (Pocket PC 4.20). Now when editing most (not all) of my Excel files I get a "unsupported content" when I try to save it. It give me the option of saving as another name, discard or cancel.
It doesn't matter what I edit, whether it is text or a number. The files do not have any macros, just simple equations.
My desktop is running WinXP with Office 2003.
Thanks in advance.

I get something similar: "An error occurred saving 'filename'", and then the file closes with no modifications.
I have to do a File Save As... and give the file a new, slightly different name if I want to save new data. This doesn't happen with every file I use, but it has happened with files imported via ActiveSync as well as with files I have created on the 8125 itself
Hmmm, I never had any problems! Can one of you post one if this mysterious files? But take off your personal information and critical data first from that file! Would be interesting to see if it happens on mine too ...
When I get the error, I can save it as another name with no problem. It is a hassle, because I edit the files on the desktop PC and the 8125. I have not done any upgrades to the 8125, it is the way I got it from Cingular, except for a few programs that I installed which are the same ones I had on my older iPAQ.
I uploaded one of the files that I have the problem with. I cleared all the data and left the equations. I checked it after I did this and it still will not save without making me change the filename.
Works fine on mine! Had no problems adding contents and saving it! Maybe you had the file open twice? This happens if you do not close Excel properly or if you open it by clicking on the file. Excel might have been already open with that file in the background and therefore you only would be able to save it under a different name since the file still would be in use.
Thanks for giving it a try. The problem is not that it's already open. If I do a soft reset, then open the file, modify it and then close I get the message.
Post your PDA specs.
I have had this problem when saving to the Memory card. When it does this I just save to main memory and copy over via Resco, not ideal...but it beats carrying a laptop.

I haven't updated anything, just installed a few programs, the same ones I used on my iPAQ.

Yes, but I've only had it for about 3 weeks. The files are all the same that I've used with my iPAQ with no problems.
Yes it happens....
Check this, http://softmaker.com/english/ofp_en.htm
It has to be a very good reason to have this company in business selling substitutes for pexcel and pword. According to what they advertise that reason is that pexcel and pword are not 100% compatible with the desktop versions, so whenever an xls or doc file made in desktop is modified and saved under the same name in a PPC is very likely that some formats, functions etc. will be affected or lost, so M$ PPC awares (probably not in the best way) the user that the files made in the desktop are going to change and will lost some features, formatting, etc.
I was having the same problem on an iPaq hx4700 running Windows Mobile 5. Some Excel Mobile files would only save changes when I used save as and gave them another name. I found the following link while trying to resolve the issue:

I searched my device for Temp0FOO files and deleted them. After that I was able to make changes to spreadsheets and save them without changing the name.

I read that link, I searched for that file, found 2 of them, deleted them, and now I can modify an Excel file, hit the X close button, and the file gets saved just like it shoulda!
A big note of thanks and sigh of relief for this fix!
I have tried to search for the mentioned file Temp0FOO but couldn't find it on my Omnia anyone can help me please
