Is this a good ugrade deal - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have put this in this art of the forum as it is about upgrading to a VarioII so i hope its in the right place.
I currently have a MDAIII (blue angel) on Tmobile. I have altered my tarif a couple of times and due to a ver helpful lady who understands my concerns at previous bad service I now pay £25.50 per month for the Flext 20 tarif with Webnwalk PRO which gives me £34 credit to use between calls and textx (about 100 texts and 120 mins calls) and unlinited gprs usage including for use as a modem for my laptop or any other device.
The lady has agreed to upgrade me to the VarioII (tyTN) for £89 as this is what it would cost me on the website if I got a similar contract now.
What does everyone think?
Are you happy with your devices?
Would you take up this deal if you were in my position.
I have 3 months left on an 18 month contract but she will upgrade me now.

crying
please talk to me I am lonely here

I don't know what sort of upgrade deals are negotiable.
But T-Mobile have recently (begining Sept) reduced their FlexT 20 from £20 to £15 per month. WnW Pro at £10 per month (WnW std no modem use is £7.50 per month). So you are about right at £25.50 although you could try for £25 if you want the std package.
You would get HSDPA 3G as well as GPRS.
New contracts can get the Vario11 for £89.99 on the FlexT20 when WnW (std or Pro) is taken, so you are again doing ok especially if you ahve 3 months left to run.

Best Deals on O2 XDA mini s??

Hello, What deals did you guys get when you ordered your o2 xda?
I got it on upgrade for 80 pounds and new 12 month contract with 12 half price on O2 200 ( 15 pounds a month ) which is quite good deal. What about yours?
I got it for free on their 400 Minutes and 100 Texts 12 Month contract.
I also get double minutes and texts for 6 months.
£45 per month.
I've got insurance for £5 and 5mb Data for £8 on top of that though.

I assume its new contract rather than upgrade?
Sorry, yeah, it was a new contract
I just upgraded to the Mini S from an XDA IIs, got a great deal from O2 UK.
I searched around on the internet and found the Mini S available for free on O2 250 (£35 p/month with 250 mins & 50 texts - the tariff I was already on) from http://www.buymobilephones.net.
When I called O2 to enquire about upgrade price they quoted me £79.99, so I told them I could get it for free elsewhere, on the same tariff etc, and that I'd cancel my contract unless they could match the deal above.
In the end they still charged me £79.99 for the handset but gave me 3 months free line rental (equal to £105!!!)
ALWAYS haggle on the phone and if necessary threaten to cancel your contract! I did the same thing when I got my XDA IIs and got £100 knocked off the upgrade price at the time...
I got mine last week - runs great (after dumping the o2 stuff).
I'm on O2 200 (upgrade contract), & I got it the XDA Mini-s for free, plus I reminded them about their offer of 50% extra minutes, and texts for life. I had to sign up for an 18 month contract though. I spent a couple of hours doing some research though, so I told them initially I was going to cancel my contract with them. Then they went to referrals, and told me I could have it for free
Happy days.

Cheapest way to buy a TyTn over 12 months in the UK?

I think I've finally worked it out:
Orange SPV 3100 from Scancom on 12M Business 200 contract
Phone £100
6 months line rental (£15.275 per month) £91.65 (half price offer for 6 months)
Switch to Business 120 after 6 months.
6 months line rental (£25.85 per month) £155.10
Total £346.75 (including the VAT and free insurance)
I'm just after a basic phone function with a smaller PocketPC (I'm using a Dell Amin X3 at the moment) so phone contract extras don't interest me.
I've not seen any Vodaphone deals that come under £400 which are just for 12 months and I suspect the T-Mobile Vario II may not be cheaper but I'll wait until it comes out - assuming it's before the end of the month.
Anyone know of a cheaper way?
Regards
Bill
hmm
I was offered the v160 for
£180 and same price as my current contract was (£15pcm).. but as i was on a 50% discounted package i dont think I would have been paying £15.
I managed to get the following deal
Handset £120
Anytime 125 @ £20 pcm x 9 months
Anytime 125 @ £25 pcm x 3 months
With this i get the £40 extras pack completely free which the voda rep told me can equate to 40mb pcm for gprs..
total price was £375..
Just need to get my moneys worth out of the free mins now
htc_dom: that's a nice deal. Is that for rentention then, were you renewing your contract, or starting as a virgin subscriber?
V
I got the v1605 for £72 plus 18mth Anytime 200 contract with 250 texts and 6 months half price.
Maybe i'm missing the point here, but the whole point of this device is high speed data access.... so data bundles are the major concern...well, its my major concern.
Which is why i'm trying my best to hold out for T-Mobile.
Yeah V, it was retention (suppose i could have got a better deal if i had waited longer but i aint too greedy.. lol well try not to be) I think i shot myself in the foot because before i agreed to the contract over the phone i stated i wouldnt pay anymore than £120 for the handset and the retention guy stated he couldnt go lower than £120.. hmmm

I was told voda only do 18mnths now.. and when i made a fuss the rep said "Ok i will do it for 12mnths this time only.. (yeah right!)"
Id like a shorter contract to get out of it quicker if i need to... I like getting the best deal (or trying to who doesnt!) And i onlyu use the free mins usually after 7pm to make use of the stop the clock tarrif
gazzrenn: yeah high speed data access is good.. but t-mobile do have a fair usage policy of 2gb bandwidth pcm.. they also say that you cannot use msn or skype etc with their services...
now if im paying say £35+ pcm for the contract, Id want what i pay for..
I actually rang t-mobile up and asked the release date for the vario2.. didnt get one (Suprise Suprise).. asked for the MDA Pro (universal) and was told £299 on a 3g data ONLY package @ £30pcm thats quite a bit for me... and was told no voice calls at all on that number.. but cant 3 (hutchinson3 that is) do 3g data and voice with video all on the same tarrif??
Most devices now use wifi and there are so many hotspots about.. i cant see me using over 40mb pcm via gprs or 3g (even though im not in a 3g enabled area yet) so i aint gonna moan.. and I like many other have got the device well below what the rrp is including the contract.
I think new customers would get a better deal on this device as I've been told a few times by retentions that they get subsidised for new customers so can give better deals..

O2 UK Data Plans

There has been an ongoing sporadic discussion regarding the best data plan in the UK, with the suggestions that T-Mobile (who have HSDPA but only 84% coverage) and Orange (who are expected to announce £8pcm unlimited internet) are the cheapest.
I have just spoken to O2 as my contract with them is coming to an end. Their retentions department says that they have realised that they are no longer competitive on data and will be making an announcement in the next month or so (it was suppiosed to be by the end of this month), with a view to offering more competitive data allowances - presumably to compete with T-Mobile.
they already do £10/month unlimited data but they don't shout about it.
"blackberry unlimited monthly roaming"
from 3g.co.uk/3gforum they say its £10 for 20mb on o2. Rip off.
I've just moved to Three, they're brill!! £5 a month for unlimited (1 gig) or
£10 (sign up for 12 months and u get a free slingbox!!) for slingbox and orb on the move as well as your gig data.
I got a crap phone (LG u300) so i got half price line rental for 18 months and put the sim in my xda exec.
I'm paying: £27.50 a month for 18 months which gets me:
£17.50 (hplr) 300 mins, 1000 texts a month
£10 x-series gold which gives me:
80 hours orb & slingbox use (more than 2.5 hours a day!)
5000 skype minutes (more than 2.6 hours a day!)
1gb data
Unbeatable tbh!! i'm just setting up my 3g settings (if i can find them) and I've just setup my slingbox, sky tv on the move!! plus my music/videos on my pc through orb!! how awesome!!
3 ftw!
You guys think thats a rip off, be glad your not in canada? $1 CDN = 0.454 GBP.
Canada Data Plans
10 GBP = $22... for $25 we get 3MB
O2 Unlimited Blackberry roaming
Be careful
O2's blackberry unlimited roaming doesnt include data , just email - the only one the unlimited is on is a RIM Blackberry device, blackberry connect devices which the xda exec is does not include it.
I took out a contract with CPW O2 (Car phone warehouse managed the aaccount but the same conditions apply) and was sold the unlimited blackberry bundle, I noticed that my online credit allowance was going down when I queried this I was advised that the charge was for data and I had run up £30 (the unlimited £10 pm brings down the mb charge to £1 per meg)
I fought this and was advised that I was mis sold the item , as I love my xda and also have paid for the insurance policy via the CPW which allows a cancellation of contract as 6 months on a 18 month policy I have stook with it.
I could have got a blackberry 8800 but I use tomtom and the blackberry doesnt support this and I dont like the blackberry maps.
Be careful when asking for the unlimited roaming as it is not what it seems - I have found out to my cost , I use wifi at home on the phone so im not bothered about the internet whilst out ....
The plus's outweigh the negatives !!

So if there is a 1GB cap, where does the unlimited part come in?
they advertise it as unlimited, as soon as you hit 1gig they don't just stop the service, you get a SMS alert to warn you of approaching the limit, then if you continue to "abuse" the service they restrict it.
So it's not a cap per se but more of a fair usage policy. But in all fairness the other mobile carriers do the same. 1 gig on a phone is a lot of data though! that doesn't count towards the slingbox or orb usage either!

O2 HD2 price increase wtf!!!

I am ordering my hd2 form o2 next week and just looked on there site to check its in stock and nosited that they have changed the packages they they will do and also put the phone up by £50
why not do what i did and order it through a 3rd party online. you wont have to pay £50 and your billed direct by o2 anyway.......
or get it on virgin, you get more for your money... they use the t-mobile network.

It's worth paying the extra on O2 though virgin/tmobile network is utterly useless compared to O2...
One bad thing about O2 though... their online stock monitoring means bugger-all... you have to call up to find out if they have stock... I ordered mine online and it took them 1 1/2 weeks to get it to me, despite it stating "in stock" on the website when I ordered and throughout the period I was waiting, when their phone staff were telling me it was out of stock with no projected arrival date...
Just check on the website... seems their plans have gone up in price by roughly 5 quid/month... yikes! I got 600 mins/1000 texts/unlimited data for 35/month with 100 for the phone... they're now claiming unlimited texts, but who uses more than 1000 a month?
Ouch! That is a big price rise! I got mine 600 Mins/100Texts/Unlimited Data for £35 with a free phone (upgrading)!
mms
Hi guys, kinda off topic but was wondering if any of you o2 uk users are able to use mms when flashing with a cooked rom...
I cant recieve them at all with cooked ROM, even after manualy inputting settings.
If you can send and recieve plz could I know what ROM u use

I just got mine for free on wednesday on o2. they price matched t mobile. it took me 2 visits to the shop and a call.....
30 a month 24 month contract 600 mins 500 texts. the day before they wanted 100 for the phone on same terms.
haggle em. its well worth it.
posting this from my hd2 now lol. it rocks!
igot mine on virgin £25 a month 500mins 3000 texts 1gb internet usage phone cost £79 and thats on a 18month contract thats £529 over the 18months the phone its self cost about £500 so its a good deal
What Gav said - I got mine from o2 price matched to T-mobile (i think) meant I got the phone for free on an upgrade - £35 a month for 600 mins, too many texts to use and unlimited interweb access.
yes i heard about this, because the are really low on stock in o2 for that phone, i hv ordered mine online 2 months ago and Im on 24 months, 25 pounds a month, 600 + 200 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data with free phone, but I was upgrading so maybe it is dif than signing on new contract.

Hi.
get the phone sim-free on either the Orange or Vodafone network from zero cost, go here: mobiles.co.uk
With it being sim-free you can get latest ROM+updates from HTC directly. Besides really good offers on at the moment. Have got 3 HD2's from this company NO PROBLEMS with any of the three handsets.
O2 and Vodafone network are messing about with HD2 because of Apple pressure (iphone). Orange is also best network for HSPDA connection.
well... hearing this, I've got quite good upgrade deal dec. last year. £35 per month plus free web bolt on, 18 mths contract and hd2 for about 30 quid.
Virgin also here
£25 month
18 months
500 min
waay too many texts
and 1 gb internet
+ £79 for the phone
Best deal!
mines 24 months
800 mins
unlimted texts
unlimted virgin to virgin
1g of net
30 quid a month
and fone was free
Just upgraded to HD2 today with o2 and got 1200 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data (web use) and free o2 to o2 calls for £40 per month on a 24 month contract and the free phone will be delivered Tuesday.
Was going to switch to T-Mobile if they could not give me a good deal as T-Mobile were offering 1200 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data, and an unlimited land-line calls bolt-on, on a 24 month contract with free phone for £35 per month, but unfortunately there coverage is not to good here where I live.
It seems we have all paid way different prices. Mine was £50 for the handset, and then 02 18 mth contract @ £35 a month, for 600mins, 500 text and unlimited data connection.
My turn...(upgrade deal)
O2 small business regular user 24mth contract
300 xnet mins
unltd O2 calls
10 unltd landlines
250 texts
unltd interwebby
free phone upgrade every 12 mths
free HD2
£27.38 mth+vat

If your thinking of getting the HD2 on contract in the UK

these deals may tempt you......(see attached)
I ended up getting it on Orange (thru mobiles.co.uk)
Handset £89 and £25x24months
I got mine through BuyMobilePhones.net. Free phone on £30x24. I also selected, for an extra fiver a month, unlimited data use. So for £35 pm I got free phone & unlimited data. Personally I don't think that's a bad deal.
Or Try Virgin mobile,
18 month Contract
Virgin £22 Month
mins 250
Text Unltd
Unltd mobile internet
Hand set £149.99
Or you get even better if you have a virgin media account
I got virgin media tv and broadband so I got the HD2 for £99 and £25 p/m 500 min, unlimited internet (1gb fair use policy blah blah) and 3000 min virgin to virgin calls, not bad on a 18 month contract oh and 2 months free
I got my from Carphonewarehouse for free on
£30x24 (after 9 months less - about £25)
600 mins any time any network
500 SMS
Unlimited internet (fair use 500 MB or more like this month I got almost 1GB)
T-mobile UK
1200minutes
unlimited texts (was a free addon pack)
unlimited internet
free phone
£35pcm over 24 months
asides from sending my their bloomin questionnaire 6 times in one day, im happy
Im with Tmob too
£35 a month, with unlimited everything
(had problems with tmob so I pretty much forced them to give me unlimited mins..)
I just wish i went for a 1 year contract now
Firstly avoid Mobiles.co.uk they are a terrible company to deal with for any issues, they don`t abide to UK DSR's either.
I got mine from them £49 for phone & £25 (600 mins, unlimited txt's) a month back in December, I tried to cancel after realising how much the phone relies on Data connection and although I had not gone out of my wireless range with the phone it had connected to the net several time incurring a charge, I decided to cancel the contract (within 7 days) but they would not issue a return number blaming Vodafone stating that because i have inserted the sim into the phone it is non returnable after telling them this was against the law they would not budge so I contacted consumer direct who confirm it was illegal to refuse the return.
Later I contacted Vodafone to explain what Mobile.co.uk had said about blaming them for breaking UK DSR's and they said that is wrong and Vodafone would be happy to accept a cancellation on any new contract and that she was reporting this to their contract department who deal with third party resellers (when the name mobiles.co.uk was mention by the vodaphone agent a co worker overheard it and said 'their ars**s )
She then said as I was being treated badly by them and they were trying to pass the blame on to Vodafone that Vodafone would try and help, she then said what she will do is add Unlimited data to my contract at no extra cost so that way I would not end up being charged if the phone connected to the net by itself
so in the end I have
600 Mins
unlimited Txt's
Unlimited Data
for £25 a month
Or buy the phone on ebay for £300 (equivelent to £12.50/month on 2 year) and get a sim only...
I'm on O2 sim only for about £20/month with mobile web included and tonnes of messages and minutes too
What I did:
Phone 'as new' on ebay: £350
o2 simplicity - 800minutes, 1600texts, unlimited data - £20/month. £110 Quidco cashback = £11/month for 12 months.
I take from dialaphone.co.uk
£40 x 12 and hd2 cost £38= £518
vodafone but hd2 unlocked and not branded- clean factory
300min x 12
3000texts x 12
internet 500mb x12
This is only 12 month contract now is offer £25 cost hd2
orange
I got mine from dialaphone £35 per month 18 month contract 1200 mins unlimited texts and unlimited internet on orange and found them very helpful as well
got my HD2 as a free upgrade from my i900 from vodaphone. only managed it as i am a business user with them. they had already withdrawn the phones for domestic users.
what a great phone!

One possible caution, if you buy an "as new unwanted upgrade" and the seller decides, sometime along the line, to stop paying the contract the phone will get blocked on all networks.
£240 for handset @ £10pm 24 months. 100 mins per month, unlimited texts and unlimited data via T-Mobile direct. That's what I went for.
I went with Vodafone - just before they went to Business only. Free phone, £35 a month for 2 yrs, 900 anytime network minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited (fair use) data, unlimited calls to landlines. Didn't think it was too bad - I haggled a bit and they increased my 1 month free phone insurance to 6 months.
There are some great offers here. I'm tempted by Virgin, already being a customer. I do worry about what I'll actually get though. Are these phones hobbled like the T-Mobile version? Are the latest official ROMs available? Are they network locked? Reading other threads suggests there might be compromises to be made. I've used an unlocked HD2 with no customizations and was impressed.

I can only find the panther 45 on 18/12 with 1200 mins and that is £45 per month at dialaphone. £50 auto cashback.
I have my PAC code from o2 now and was going to go through topcashback £50 with mobiles.co.uk on £45 per month and get the 8/12 half price.
I got mine from Virgin. £80 for the handset and £25x18 with 500 mins and unlimited data and texts. Unlocked and unbranded handset.
Think the handset price may have increased slightly now.
