O2 UK GPRS / WAP / MMS Setting for HTC TyTn - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi folks,
I just received my HTC TyTn today and thought I would post to say that it is AWESOME! So much smaller and pocketable than the Exec, 802.11G and a very slick keyboard.
Also, and more importantly, I found that the O2 Settings CAB from my old XDA EXEC works 100% perfectly on this device for setting up MMS / 3G GPRS / WAP etc. Its a single cab which simply installs those settings and no other O2 Active junk etc. Bear in mind this is for O2 UK only and will probably screw-up your device if you are using it in another territory.
I fully tested this with email / terminal services / mms messages and all worked perfectly. I have attached the CAB in a Zip archive (don't forget to log in to see it).
I hope someone finds this useful.
All the best,
Codeus

lol wish i had this when i got mine, i had to manually enter the settings which was a right pain....does the cab install the settings for the http AP over GPRS/3G rather than the standard wap one??

Yes, the Exec which I got the .cab from is also a GPRS 3G phone. so it works perfectly.
I tend to copy useful little cabs like this to my flash card and make them read-only so I can reinstall should I ever have to hard-reset on the road.

This is a very handy Cab file. It is likely to be for those who have a data tarriff i.e subscribed to mobile.O2.co.uk and not payandgo.o2.uk. However all is not lost because you can still install the cab file and then through connections menus you can tweak them for payand go. The following reference shows the different entries between payg and contract:
http://www.mphone.co.uk/mms_wap_settings_o2.html
Installing the cab file. Just download it either directly to your device or to PC. Do not extract or expand the file if it's on your PC just open active sync, use the explore button to open your device files and put it where you want (storage card for preference). Go to your device and tap/double tap the Cab and it will run.

O2 Cab file

I've just noticed your in the US. This cab file is for UK so I guess not much use for you. What I said about Cab files still applies in general though. You'll often find a choice as to whether you want to download a Cab file or an EXE file. Generally (not always) you run Exe files on your computer and they install to your device (while your conected with activesync). Cab files you copy onto your device and just tap them to run them. I like these cos I can store all the good ones on my SDcard and if I ever have to hard reset I have them all ready to tap and install again without resorting to the PC to reinstall everything.

plse help am nw at dis

Brillant, thank you

Thanks for that CAB, just used it to get my Kaiser working.
Just had to change the username and password in the settings and works perfectly.
Many thanks for sharing it.

I tried using this cab, and so far it seems to be all good, but I still can't get my MMS working. They haven't worked since I moved to 02 last year and still using my Vario II.
I've just flashed the Faria32 rom and I'm loving everything so far. I was hoping that this would now start working. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is it just part of the deal with using a non O2 handset? Internet seems to be working fine... just no mms.

Incoming MMS problems on o2 PAYG fixed
I've had a problem with O2 PAYG, after installing the CAB and changing settings from contract to PAYG everything worked except incoming MMS (outgoing was ok). Eventuially I set O2 Active as my work connection, altered the O2 Active access point to payandgo.o2.co.uk, username=payandgo and password=password. The only proxy set was WAP=193.113.200.195:9201 In the MMS settings, the everything was left as default (connect using O2 Active, gateway 193.113.200.195, port 8080, server http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002)
Not sure why I had to use O2 Active instead of my internet connection with WAP proxy set, but it works now. Happy Bunny
Incidentaially, O2 refused to help me because the Hermes (O2 Trion) is only supported on contract. I guess if you are on PAYG, you could move to a simplicity plan for a month, get O2 to help, then go back to PAYG and change the settings back to the payandgo ones.

One of the reasons I went back to O2 is cos I've always had good customer service... I'm beginning to rethink that with their "computer says no!" help...
Thanks for the help i'm going to see if the O2 Active settings help me at all.

Anno 2009 still working, thank you.

tytn 2 gprs probs on o2 pay and go
hey all
if u are a pay and go customer (im on o2) when ur setting up ur connections simply enter the contract APN in the access point area..not the pay and go one as its restricted. I did this and boom the tytn was on the net! I suspect this could be the same for other pay and go sims. Hope this helps those of u who were bangin their head against the gprs wall of pay and go smartfone world.

Here's the cab file for setting up gprs and mms for PAYG.

Sorry for being such a noob, but what do I do with the cab files after downloading them..?
Where do I copy them to..?
Do I extract them..?

Orange Software application lock stops you downloading files

HELLO!!!
For those of you that cannot get that fax prog to work - or indeed any application, please note that Orange have confirmed that they ship the 'XDA II' (SPV-M1000) with an application lock.
You need to go to:
to register the fact that you want to run non-Orange software.
QUESTION: Orange have said phone is not MMS. I cannot text pictures - only e-mail them. Is this the same with O2 ? This phone is on trial & I may go with O2 instead.
Dave.
PS. can you buy an SDIO to usb cable?
my qtek2020 comes with mms composer
then i got the mms settings from my phone company
and typed them in
my qtek2020 came with a today mms inbox so it dont use the normal inbox like sms but it's ok by me
Orange confirmed
Orange have confirmed that MMS will not work until the end of the year.
That website link i Quoted is a nightmare. They wanted all my company details & are now considering whether it is in their interest to give me the software application unlock code.
I am taking this thing back to Orange, then off to O2 to buy one from them!
The M1000 isnt application locked, guess whoever you spoke to got confused the SPV, E100 and E200 Smartphones ship locked but the M1000 does not, what error are you getting when you try and install the s/w?
Any application
Funnily enough, I have just got off the phone from tech support. They once again said that my SPV-M1000 is application locked.
I really am pulling my hair out as Orange have still yet to send the code.
As for apps. Every one downloaded does not work. Even the links you guys quote do not work - same applies for stuff via the xda site. the most important one to me at the moment would be:
http://www.ksesoftware.com/index.php?show=downloads
Just tried this link from the forum:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pocketrar.shtml
I always get the following error message:
" <prog name> is not a valid Pocket PC application"
All I want to do is watch the .MOV Harry Potter trailer.
well many pocketpc applications if downloaded as exe file are not windows CE files but activsync installation files
install packs which are to run on a pocketpc are most of the time cab files and
CE installs as exe are activesync installtions which must be run on the pc with the xda connected
I've just installed Pocket RAR no problem, you need to be running the .exe from your desktop it then gets delivered to the M1000 via Active Sync.
Dont know who you are speaking to at Orange are them seem to be confused.
I just installed MS PocketStreets on mine and it works like a charm. Guess the Dutch M1000's aren't application locked?

im on orange, got the phone as a i-mate and runing the t-mobile rom, it has a mms composer made by ArcSoft and after a bit of a play now have fuly working mms on orange using the phone, why orange have not included a mms composer in the rom i dont know. :?
Eddweb,
Mine is straight out of the box, no changes/or hacks done and does have the MMS composer in the ROM.
Would this mean that the Orange M1000's are configured differently per country?
Edit: Whoops, just noticed yours is not an original M1000. But I guess the question still stands.

if you want mms working it may be worth finding the mms setings for orange (useing another phone - i used a spv e100) and transdering them over to the right places
for uk:
in the mms composer:
server name: Orange MMS
gateway: 192.168.224.10
server address: http://mms.orange.co.uk/
(yes the last slash is needed!)
under network:
the 2nd network (progs that conect to privert network)
Orange MMS
setings for above conection
name: Orange MMS
modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access point name: orangemms
username password and domain leave blank
good luck, took me a while to get it working but got there in the end, orange may say its not working but there are ways of geting it working - i think thay say that as not as easy to set up on this phone

Uk Network Settings for MMS and GPRS

RE: GPRS and MMS settings
Hi,
Follow this link, Ihave uploaded all the available cab installs for UK carriers, contract and PAYG.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26463
These are the latest version 2.0, as I have seen some earlier versions elsewhere on forum.
where in the registry is this information located?? it works fine on the qtek 9100 wm5 but it will only show one of the connections in the connections listing. i istalled gprs monitor and it offers to monitor about 5 different connections that the cab file created. I can only see one of these. Where in the registry would I go to delete the ones not being used???
hi,
I just go my exec and i managed to set up (manualy) the gprs /3g connection so that i can surf the net.
what i cannot do is set up my mms. i also tries the cub files that you uploaded here but...no good.

Good point, I obtained these files in my earlier link from the I-mate website, I know they work upto Alpine version on WM2003SE.
I don't have access to the I-Mate JasJar section, the cab files were designed for WM2003 & SE, I think that WM2005 probably has a different registry configuration. maybe if somebody has a JasJar, they can get can get the correct files for JasJar Mobile Carriers in I-mate JasJar section. Also Checkout the Unversal section on this Forum, somebody maybe able to help you there.

Unable to Access GPRS on M500 Via O2

Hi you wonderfull helpfull people!!
I did a search on this and can find various settings etc but cant seem to find anything specific!!
I purchased a Orange SPV M500 but I have an O2 Contract Sim, so I unlocked the M500 (Using the wonderfull software from here - thanks for that by the way!) and am now using my O2 sim in the phone. Now ringing people and sending text is obviously OK, however I have a problem connection to the net and sending email's MMS and its all down to my GPRS settings still being set at the Orange ones.
I tried to ammend the settings by getting them from the O2 website (I am unable to send them to my phone as you have to select the phone you use, and obviously they dont have the M500 in their list as they dont sell it, I tried to get the settings for thier XDA but it doesn't work) I tried to put them in the M500, but there seems to be more settings on their website than there is space for on the M500!!!
Help!!!
The main reason I got the phone was for net access and now I havn't got it LOL
So does anyone else have an M500 running an O2 Sim and have the GPRS working and if so can you help pleaaaasssseee
thanks in advance to any replies!

Hi
Try this the file has been posted on here b4, but could not find it so ive attached it to this message.
delete all of the setting in connections, copy the cab to your phone and run it useing file manager. you have to do a soft reset, check in MMS settings that you are useing the o2uk and delete the orange settings.
hope it helps
i used it on a mda compact, hope it helps
Thanks alot thats a great help.
I will do this when I can get on my own PC (Im at work and we have a download/upload block grrrr) so will hopefully try in in the next few days!
When you say delet all settings do you mean go to the GPRS main page and tap and hold till the delet option comes up and delete each thing set up (i.e there is the O2 one I created and the original Orange one) or just go in to each profile and just clear all the info in the fields? Sorry just want to double check thats all!!!
And does it matter which folder I copy it to in my phone, or shall I just whack it in the root directory or something?
Thanks again BTW can't wait to try this
Hi
I deleted all the setting that where on the phone, (MDA compact) when u run the cab it will create all the seting u nead so no need for the old ones, if you are unsure back up the phone with active sync then if u have any problems you car put it back as it was.
copy the cab anywhere u like, then run it useing file manager and it will set up the gprs settings for u

UMTS - Mobile-TV

Hi,
First I have to tell you that I've got the HTC Uni/MDA Pro from T-Mobile. It's a fantastic pocket pc and it's also great as a mobile phone but I've got one problem.
Till the end of august I've got the "Mobile-TV" option for free but I think I can't use it at the moment. The instructions from T-Mobile are: "select t-zones and then TV&Video > MobileTV". But just after I've bought the MDA I installed the Qtek Rom so I can't find the "t-zones" anywhere. Is there any possibility how I can watch/use this "MobileTV" option? Maybe after installing a CAB or something like that?
Thanks a lot

first: configure the web-access - I think you've already done that.
2nd: configure WAP access over the net access: I've reached that configured the WAP proxy in the settings/connections menu editing the net-connection.
now you have to find out the wap portal's address.
use wsp:// tag before the address.
The only problem is to make sure that this download through the wap proxy doesn't use your monthly data amount included..
The wap page is wap.t-mobile.co.uk or www.t-zones.co.uk

Virgin UK Network Settings CAB file

I know that there have been requests for this so here we are.
The attached ZIP file contains the CAB to automatically configure GPRS and MMS connections for the Virgin UK network. It has been successfully tested on an XDA II and SPV M1000, both of which are running 2003 SE. I don't have a pre-2003 or Mobile 5 device to try it on so I don't know if it works on them.
The 2 connections which are set up are called:
Virgin GPRS - this has been configured to also allow MSN Messenger to be used.
Virgin MMS
Before using it, I would advise the removal of any existing GPRS and MMS connection settings (though the choice is obviously yours). I would also advise to check that your happy with all of the MMS options/settings following the install (e.g. Save Sent messages is switched off with this CAB).
At last - God knows what i was doing wrong but with this cab and some manual setup of the Connection side of thing i have managed to send an MMS.
This CAB setup the MMS side perfectly (nothing on GPRS) - as i was typing from what i can gather ok for IP i was using the full xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and server name i had put goto.virginmobile.uk whereas this cab just say picture message (not sure if this would cause and issue), but i am doing the connection via: My Work Network as thats where i setup the GPRS, rather than internet.
My Mobile is a Voda Compact III 1605, running HTC Rom 1.35 with windows mobile 5 - and have sent my 1st MMS after trying over a few days!
thanks
How do I install this cab file?
Copy the CAB file to your device and execute it...
sbgorner, you rule!!!
iv been trying to get my mms to work for 5 days now and was readt to smash my phone to pieces. your cab worked perfectly.
Thanks V Much

I tryed it, No luck.
It installs on my O2 XDA mini s, but still no connection
Maybe you know some other way to do it.
Many Thanks
Remove old network connections before installing the CAB
The CAB file does really rely on the fact that there are no existing network specific connection details installed on the XDA. The best way to ensure that old network connections are not affecting the Virgin settings is to delete them, i.e. ensure that only the standard "My ISP" and "My Work Network" entries are still present.
1) Go to Start->Settings and on the "Connections" tab, tap on the Connections icon.
2) Tap on the "Advanced" tab.
3) Tap on the "Select Networks" button.
4) Use the drop-down arrow to select an entry (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network").
5) Tap on the "Edit..." button.
6) Tap on the "General" tab.
7) Tap on the "Delete Settings" icon.
8) Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the entries (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network") have been removed.
Having removed all of the network specific connection entries, try reinstalling the Virgin UK cab file again and everything should work.
You diamond. Just sent Virgin a bollocking. They suggested I contact O2 about setting this up. Your cab file much appreciated by a middle aged member.
Thanks
Will try!
Much appreciated!

Just tried this after a week of trying various settings, now got access to gprs, thanks.
I have followed your instructions but after running the CAB file the VArio II still doesn't connect. If I click on the edit settings link it doesn't think there are any settings, as I only have the option to install a new ISP. However if I try to manually install a new ISP using the name Virgin GPRS it won't let me as it says a connection already exists with that name, but nowhere can I find any trace of that connection. What is going on please?

I'm in exactly the same position with my O2 XDA mini S.
I could possibly try using a different ISP name but I'd rather find out why this is happening and delete the connections made by the CAB file. As I can't find the connections though I can't delete them.
Ok, Time for an update.
Using Virgin GPRS2 didn't work and I've found out how to remove the setting created by the CAB file. I went to add and remove programs and removed the changes that way.
I have followed the instructions from this thread to no avail. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238042&highlight=virgin+gprs
I'll keep plodding along but if someone can offer any suggestions i'd lve to hear them.
Ps. Don't be rude.
Hi Bouncypete
I also discovered that I could get rid of the bad settings using remove programs, but am also no further forward in finding the correct settings. I have sent a private email to sbgorner (he doesn't appear to subscribe to any forums) but have not had a reply. Anybody else out there got any ideas?
Virgin GPRS settings
Hi Bouncypete -success!!!
I have found an older posting from sbgorner which gives a blow by blow manual way of doing the settings and it works!!.
I will try and attach this as a pdf, but if the attachment doesn't come through then email me and I will send it to you direct
ran VirginUK.CAB - no settings added
I deleted all the old gprs etc connection settings and ran CAB file, but get no settings visable in network connections just "my isp" and my work network". When I try and enter settings manually I get to the "modem" new page and enter Virgin GPRS or MMS select Cellular GPRS/3G and next and it tell me I'm adding a duplicate setting although there are no settings visible. This happens after removing the CAB settings that make no difference in remove programs? Any Ideas apart from clearing the phone down?
Thanks for the pdf link - sorted me & my orbit out

I have been trying for ages to get my HTC Blueangel to link into the internet.
This CAB file did the job for me. Surprise, surprise (for me at least) IT WORKS.
