Orientation Aware Theme Making - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi all.
I was looking through http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44560 My Today Screen. and a topic that quickly interested me was lost in the middle of it. I figured I would open up a new thread and get the information out there about it.
Orientation aware Themes. Basically you can use two different wallpapers. One for portrait mode and one for landscape mode. I want to give the credit to Jacob-MDA as his was the first post I found in this thread about it.
You need 3 files. 2 Others are optional
REQUIRED
*.tsk file //Your Task file, it will have all the color information in it.
tdywater_240_320.gif //Today Screen wallpaper for PORTRAIT Mode
tdywater_320_240.gif //Today Screen wallpaper for LANDSCAPE Mode
OPTIONAL
stwater_240_320.gif //Start Menu Background for PORTRAIT Mode
stwater_320_240.gif //Start Menu Background for LANDSCAPE Mode
The numbers in the filename indicate the size of the GIF image by pixels, in width*height. so tdywater_240_320.gif is 240 Pixels wide and 320 pixels high.
TO USE.
The image files contain NO color information for the theme. You will still have to use or make your own theme to get the colors that you want. Load the theme and select it under the settings/today panel.
Once you have your theme selected. Drop your *water_###_###.gif files into the \Windows directory. When prompted overwrite the files that are already there. They were created by the theme when it is selected.
Examples
tdywater_240_320.GIF and stwater_240_320.GIF

Again, Please note that the title bars and other colors specified in the theme are not altered by these changes.

good info

I've made such themes, but my top menubar always turns out either grayscale or plain black. None of the theme-maker programs out seem to work very well for WM5 unfortunately; at this time they are more geared toward WM 2003.

TBCompDesign: great info. If it's not already there, could I ask you to stick this on the Wiki?
Grazie tanto!

[new release] VJBaseHue

Guys n Gals,
I've knocked together a small program further to ZeBoxx's request.
It's used to set the colour of the soft keys etc, by command line/shortcuts/launchers.
eg VJBaseHue.exe 187
will give you a nice purple colour

On my website.
V
really a cool proggy
I am currently testing code by code...I've tried to key in 3 different conbination code...doesn't seem to work though... now am testing the color coding.
Zack, I don't understand. You mean you're trying to find the right hue code by code? The colour wheel on my website might help you, or basically load up any art program, screengrab your theme, and use the colour picker to find the colour your want. Even the standard Windows Colour Picker in MSPaint will show the hue you need.
Post some screenshots in your VGA themes thread if you have any luck :wink:
V
I think I got it now :wink:
guess I must be dreaming lol.I was looking for dark blue and not realise that hue does not come with such colors lol...
Thanks Vijay am doing some minor test wiht my themes I'll post some screen shots soon :wink:
I was looking at VJBaseHue trying to figure out how to get the two bars 100% black (still no luck) when I found something else. Modifying the SHColor value has an effect on the tray above the soft keys. Normally it is an ugly line across the today screen that forces up the scroll bar at the same time, the icons like wirelles use the space. After randomly modifying SHColor the line dissapeared and so did the scroll bar. Also the icons moved down and to the right to be in the corner taking up less space. It seems strange that a colour setting can change the whole layout of the today screen, do yo know the reason for this VJ?
I don't know offhand Odeean, I imagine it might be some kinda buffer overflow etc..
Let me know what values you use, and if I ever get the WinMob source in my hands, I'll have a look!
V
Don't worry, I can't copy/paste from my reg editors and the value is too long to be bothered reading and typing I also have not been able to repeat what happened, I only now seem to be able to make it do the opposite. When I have no tray, modifing it brings it back.

[THE]Timbermill Themes & Pieces

As time allows, I'll be adding more
To start off, here's a manila edit with a mini slider and tranparent backgrounds, so that you can see more of your wallpaper.
This version has an Indiana Jones theme using the offical icons from the iconfactory (plus others)

}
(based on the Chunghwa manila files and .tsk)
EDIT: The .theme didn't work too well, problems with images resizing. When I've added some more changes I'll update this post with a full theme file cab.
For now please install it manually, just turn off TF3D and extract the indianila.zip file to Windows, then turn TF3D back on.

nice bro....sweeeeeeeeeeet indiana
75 wallpapers
Found on my hard drive, probably from interfacelift. Mainly nature and landscapes (all 480 x 640)
Coud work well with a wallpaper auto-changer

Excuse for my English but how to make back фот not the main window is more light?
I'll post some different colours for the tab backgrounds very soon
If you need the ppc .tsk for the chunghwa theme it is attached.
I'm playing about with the transparent clock backgrounds at the moment (files attached)
EDIT: will add the number set later. DONE .pngs for manila edits.
The Fedora.ttf numbers are all placed above the 'fold' line so they appear to flip down from their baseline.
I think it's a nice effect but isn't really suitable for thin fonts.
Allows you to make more use of the clock backgrounds for graphics (examples will follow).
A full Indiana theme isn't far off now, still playing with this and others

So where can we download it?
thank you will try it
The best theme for Diamond IMHO.
But dark font color is not readable on black default background in manila's pages and some home wallpapers. Seems it needs to change font color or change background. Please solve how can I change it?
Very nice work bro....many many thanks from the Greece
It's been a long time
Just flashed the Gen.Y ROM and now catching up on a year of manila mods
Many thanks to all the XDA contributors.
Chunghwa.tsk, No Curtains, Transparent Slider, Background All Tabs, Wallpaper Auto-Changer, Misfortune Taskbar, 2.5 Icons.

Where can I find this inverted clock?

Found here....

That's doesn't appear the same clock. When I installed it it changed the icons and text for Call History and Calendar to the same dark gray as the clock. Also, the clock in the link posted by The-Kevster seems to be a lot darker - almost, but not quite, black, whereas the one in your link appears (to my eyes at least) to be lighter.
Unless I'm doing something wrong...
I have a rom for you with that clock. It is the latest pdaviet rom for the diamond. If you need it let me know. It is superfastttt. WIth no major bugs.
i don't remember where from i got it so i uploaded it for you here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/164026938/tnyynt_Manila_Black_Clock.cab
enjoy!
Its called Holy Clock... disable TF3D(start>settings>today>itemstab), install the cab file, then enable TF3D again
The problem I've got with these clocks is that whereas the normal white Manila clock has a nice graduated background, every black version I have tried has a background which is very blocky (it looks as though the backgrounds to the numbers are very highly compressed jpg's).
Is there a version of the black clock available where the background to the numbers isn't blocky?
EDIT*** OK, on further investigation I can see that what most people appear to have done when creating the black clocks is take the white background and basically turn it in to a negative image. I have just tried this myself and the result is just as blocky, so it's simply a case of this blockiness not showing up very much on the white versions. On the black versions it sticks out like a sore thumb. Basically in order to smooth it out the background will need to be completely redrawn. I have neither the skills or the patience to do this.
I've found the clock that I'm after, and it is the clock that is in the White Manila Theme. The clock background appears to be much smoother when I apply this to my phone, instead of using some of the other black clocks that I've tried.
Here is a screenshot to better explain what I'm talking about. The image has been uploaded as an uncompressed .bmp
The clock on the left is the one you posted, and the one on the right is from the White theme. Both pictures have been brightened up a bit (each by the same amount) to better show what I mean:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I know people will probably claim that the one on the right is blocky also, but when it is at its correct brightness it doesn't stand out as much and appears a lot smoother to my eyes.
How do I go about extracting this clock from the White theme to be used on the standard Black Manila theme?

[Updated] backgroundCreator

I've made an application that will replace the theme's background with a background of your choice.
The advantages of using my program:
- unlike on your device itself, you can zoom in and out of pictures and get just the part YOU want on your devices today screen.
- you get a seperate part of the picture for both portrait and landscape mode, not the same one like windows does (either cropped or tiled).
It's an application specifically designed for the XPERIA but it can be used with other devices with the same resolution (or if I make small modifications which consist in users being able to select the preferred resolution).
You can load a picture, modify it to your wishes and then either save it directly onto your device or make a backup which you can use for later on your desktop computer.
Update: You can now change the fontcolor of your todayscreen and start menu, as well as changing your devices base color.
For example the color for your menu's and background colors for standard windows applications like messaging, etc...
If there are things you dislike or would like to see changed; functionality you would like me to add, please tell me.
Note:
- All 3 files are needed to run the application.

I have no experience with manilla, I don't even know what it is ^_^!
If manilla uses the files windows provides to use as a background, it will (like stwater_800_480), otherwise it won't.
wow, glad to see a nifty little program like this. can't wait to try it out, thanks for the development!
I've added some features which now makes it a basic theme editing program as well.
Also I have bad news..
my x1 fell in my cup of soup a few days ago T_T so I turned it in for repairs. I got lucky after like 20 times I could flash my old ROM and SPL back so they can't complain about that..
Will it change the background only of the Today Screen?
No changes in the screen of the Sony Ericsson Panel?
(I'd like a program to change the Sony Ericsson Panel Background, doing it manually is a little tedious)
will this creator also run with windows mobile 6.5?
great thanks for development!!

Flash Pimp Clock

Loved the original idea from here:

Its basicly a different visual clock, to read the hours see the left vertical columns and for the minutes see the right 5-rows columns.
The PDF on the site above explains it better...
To use:
---------
- 5 colors to choose from, just press the bottom bar to change colors.
- If you prefer a 12-hour clock, simply click the left numbers after 13h.
- Exit with enter (keypad) or by pressing the top-right area.
- See the "normal" digital clock and date by pressing anywhere else on the screen.
Notes:
-------
- Needs FLASH 7, if it doesnt exit properly, you dont have it.
- Attached the CAB, already with the WM6.5 icon on install.
- Also added a separated swf file, to see it run on your NOKIA, PC or Throttle Launcher..
Enjoy.
Nice idea
Love it! thanks!
it would be cool if it can be a screensaver.
thanks twolf!
WQVGA issue omnia
just wondering if there's a way to make the excess screen on my omnia to default BLACK- then your app would be awesome
maybe even add function buttons - there's some promising update potential
awesome clock - would it be possible to simulate the look of a recessed L.E.D.?
looks good on my armband at the CLUB!!!
Great...very cool with the color options!
Sorry, the software I use for the EXE only allows VGA/QVGA, he doesnt even allow any extra options for the size or screen color.
Use flash pimp clock
I need a macromediaflash for use it. someone can help me?
found it
Yes, yes my first app for the htc diamond.
it`s fantastic........... I`m cry
Standalone app?
Just wondering... what is the program you are using for these standalone apps? I could probably use the same thing to make my own FlashGadgets play as standalones, which would make them work across a broader series of device platforms. Please check out my thread, and tell me what you think. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630985
