So finally it's available now.
However on my TyTN only values for RSSI (field strength) and RXqual are showing up.
I'm sure we will be able to fix that with the help of this kind guy, who shared this application with us [I hope he is responding].
Assumably some registry keys have to be set to invoke display of all parameters.

updated the wiki so this reaches more people and hopefully someone can help.

I have doopod 838pro, i was trying to connect it with the QPST/QXDM (qualcom diagnostic software installed on leptop) but i cannot as the phone is detected as HTC Modem and not as dignostic COM port. Do you know if there is any driver/software/command for open the dignostic port for detect it as COM on the device manager?Any idea or other solution?

Im not sure you'll be able to do that.
The Qualcomm's MSM chipset on the Hermes handle the radio while the applications handled by a different processor (Samsung), unlike what is happening on feature phones.
The data-com connector is controlled by the application processor so no Q's communication is available :-(

HOWEVER, TomTom came yesterday with some kind of help in that matter. when TomTom asks you to configure external GPS receiver, it also lists all available COM ports. guess what - one of the ports was described as 'RIL on COM6:' - ha! i'm guessing, RIL is accessible through that port, but usual AT commands don't work, so there must be some other way of doing it...

You can buy the software from Qualcomm, this software is used for Radio network optimization and mobile test/debugs, not sure if it is available somewhere in the web.To this software you can connect any qualcomm chipset mobile and monitor all L1,l2 and L3messages, record, show and record radio measurements for HSDPA,R99 and off course connect true GPS for g data collection.Is something similar (but much more complete than the TEMS, COUEI, NETMIZER, NEMO.....)

But how do we install the drivers?
The files posted contain SYS files.
These are sys files but the Modem in the Hermes has its own driver already.
If you try to do an 'update driver' and point to a directory with these sys files in it, they don't work.
I think you also need a .inf file to go with these, or alternatively, mabe there is something needed in the Hermes to start up the modem in a different way.
Any ideas?

The Himalaya code is merged into the handhelds.org CVS. The main problem
is the missing SD driver, which should be
reverse engineered from the wince code.
So at the current stage linux on the HTC
PDAs (HP ipaq hx4700 included) is not for
newbees
so basically, do you mean that those smart Linux Developper are not able to code that SD driver and will steal into Microsoft OS?
No wonder Microsoft is calling that stealing intellectual property!
well unless the hardware sdchip maker or the software dll maker let people in on the interface there really is no way to make a new interface without reverse eng the existing stuff

The Linux developers don't have the hardware datasheet for ATI Imageon chip
that describes how the SD interface works.
If you have followed the Linux driver development, the majority of drivers are
reverse engineered, because many
hardware companies think that

greetings all. i'm new here, so forgive me if this has all been asked before.
i've got one of these BlueAngels (mine's branded i-Mate) and small annoyances with wince drove me to look into running linux on my PDA. i think that i can be of help on this project and would like to talk to others who have made some progress already.
my main question in this: how similar are the wallaby, himalaya and blueangel? should I be able to get as far as previous developers have with those other devices? I cannot find much information on the blueangel in the wiki here and information on HTC devices at handhelds.org is scarce. do i just need to keep digging?

Take the himalaya wiki as a basis and
change the things that differ, for example,
MMU 1st level descriptor table is at A01D0000.
WiFi is ACX100-based.
Find out if ASIC3 SDIO (driver exists) or ATI3220 SDIO (???) is used.
Read on handhelds.org about the HP hx4000 and hx4700 ipaqs - they are also by made HTC.
Isn't it possible to use Qtopia or Movista on these HTC devices?

ok, this is what i suspected. i've been reading more on the himalaya as that is what is supported by the current hh.org kernel. i'm hoping to have success running one of those kernels on my device as soon as i get it to compile. since they both have a pxa263 i think it should work. (famous last words)

thank you for this info. i will have to start reading a lot. i'm currently reading the intel dev manual for the pxa processors... unfortunately between school and work there's not a lot of time for this but as they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. 8)

Qtopia works off the raw framebuffer.
If you have the working framebuffer driver,

Here is some more info.
thank you again. i think once i grasp how the kernel boots this device (first time hacking on a kernel) and familiarize myself with the dev manual i'm going to attempt to get a console on the device. i still have to see how far the lcd and keyboard drivers are.
have you had any success booting a kernel on this device? i have gotten as far as haret showing me a fully red thermometer and the penguin's eyes changing but then it freezes, every time. the only kernel i have attempted so far is the 2.6.3 one for the himalaya on the wiki. i would be happy to even see a kernel panic. i haven't used linexec yet, but i don't think haret is the problem here.
there is lots that can be done with haret but i'd rather start debugging the current code to get a feel for it before i jump in and write my first kernel code.

No. Buggy haret freezes during boot.

Don't waste your time on linexec, because haret is its derivative.
Haret is a nice piece of software, but it has some major problems in linboot.cpp
that should be fixed first.
The booting fails for me here:

so i have replaced memVirtToPhys (returning -1) with LockPages, get the "real" physical addresses, but it still doesn't boot.

ATI Imageon has hardware 2D acceleration,
MPEG decoder (betaplayer
source code shows how to use it),
USB OTG (as i have mentioned it is enabled in the "function" mode), video capture port
(also can be used), SDIO port (not yet clear if it is used). If we will trust the atihwtbl0.txt
there is an I^2C port (unused) and some
GPIO lines (unused).

not 100% sure that it works on the universal as i've never tried it, but SiSoft Sandra has/had some kindof pocket pc function.

I think a general diagnostic program has never appeared, but you might find many applications to check the functions of your universal, e.g.:
A tool named powerdetect, which is excellent to check your battery,
a tool called cpuid, which gives you detailed information about the CPU (nothing more ),
excellent task manager which gives some details about the OS,
and there's is an excellent benchmark program around here ...
But i don't know, maybe there's some engineering tool from HTC???
At least you might check your hardware with booting linux. There are excellent ways to get some information about the hardware and it's function with this OS!

According to different service manuals most of them are delivered on special HTC "gold" card as XXXXDIAG.nbh files.
I found power control progs for HTC products called PowerDetect.

TyTN cellid?

Hi. I am writing a freeware social networking application based on location services ( http://www.fightersoft.ro/mts/index.htm ). Although many devices are supported, it seems that the HTC TyTN isn't. To that end I acquired one and now I am on the quest on getting the cellid in my application.
The approach that should of worked was the COM port. However, no matter what COM port I open, I get a create file error. I am guessing that maybe the internal modem uses a weird port name such as COM550 or other letters instead of COM. I know that another way of getting the cellid is by using ril.dll (or even getting the handle to the gsm modem com port). However, in WM5 this is not documented at all on msdn.com - BUT for WM6 there is documentation.
Firstly, I want to ask anyone if they have extra information about this issue and secondly if by upgrading to WM6, the using the COM port approach works from the box (usually COM9)?
hi, I tryed many programs, which have actually support for cellid information, but no one work on herm, no matter if it was WM5 or WM6. on all phones, I had before it worked correctly... phone alarm also have this functionality, but shown only something like 00-00...
This is so frustrating. Every mobile device with GSM capabilities has a GSM modem insinde. That modem SHOULD be accesible from the OS by the means of COM ports. My guess is that this port is hidden or under a different name than the rest of the HTC devices where it resides on COM9.
CommMgrPro shows Cell Id and Location Area Code correctly on TyNT

Sure. Ril.dll gives you access to this information and works properly in WM5-WM6. And technically is easier than manager serial drivers......
Documentation isnt included in WM5 so it isnt "official" but realky It is included. The only problem for "not official" issue is you wont get support from microsoft....

Lurker0, I know about this approach (I have mentioned it in my first post) however, I need more information because c++ native is not my primary envoirement for developing. That's why I kept searching for a way of getting the lac-cid from com ports so that I could do it directly from managed code.

Exactly. I downloaded Platform builder to have includes and libraries.
1) Initialize Ril
2.a) Request Position explicitally using a RIL_gettowerinfo
2.b) When you initializa Ril you can pass a callback to be notified upon location changes....
Did you read the source code for RIL interface that I pointed you to?
danielherrero, I see. Regarding the callback function is not neccessary in my app - the user or the app set on auto mode searches for changes in location. Thank you very much for your info.

[REQ/REL] USB camera driver

I found source code for USB camera driver from Microsoft (usbcam.dll) it is for Windows CE and it is compatible with Windows Mobile. It need to be compiled for IntelXscale and/or ARM (depending on device)... Maybe someone here can try. It support around 30 usb web camera models with USB 1 and 2. It include also filter:

my device Xda Flame has USB OTG version 1.2 compliant. (USB On-The-Go)
and can connect to HD, flash memory, keyboard, mouse etc.

As for your initial question, I'm not sure this driver will do what you want. You to want to use the webcam with a Windows Mobile system. If however, you want to display the image through media player, this driver won't help. It doesn't support a proper Direct Show interface.
Microsoft has released a webcam driver (with source) that does support a Direct Show interface. It is written for CE 6, but could be recompiled for Win Mobile 5/6 since they support Direct Show capture drivers. The link for that driver is

I was very close to run it... I used webcam.dll from codeplex (version for arm) but it was compiled for win ce... I used registry key whiich was included to regiister hardware type. Wheen I connected camera it as usualy ask for drivver... but surprise here - it doesn't do this again as usualy, instead of this it show "error installing driver". Camera test is not exe becouse it like driver need to be compiled for windows mobile like driver. I am 100% sure that if driver, filter and cam test app will be compiled for windows mobile it will work fine.... but we need someone who will do it....
Shame that noone here can help us... developers...

I think nobody's interested because all our HTC devices have cameras in them already (and most new ones have 2). Why plug in another camera?

The project sounds interesting, but I don't think the ExtUSB in HTC devices support host mode. Plus, having a camera dangling from the only data/ power port on the device sounds like a waste.
What would be more interesting is to find a way to connect a web cam to a bluetooth device. My phone has a back camera, but I'd still love to buy a bluetooth camera to attach to the phone.

Top platform when it's about consupting resorces. Up to date is aviable just like regular version of windows, but..
Still needed for some additional components which are included in usual windows versions.
For me, Win10 gamerEdition can't recognise Bluetooth sound bar like it's not existing. I try to update Bt enumerator, and Bt device driver, but had no effect with that.
So, anyone got a suggestion what to do or if there's existing some addons or components for Win10 gamer edition?
