Buying HTC Hermes / TyTN in UK - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Yeee, dedicated forum for TYTN !!!
This topic is for people who still did not buy the phone and waiting for a right deal or know of any place where TYTN can be purchased.
I know that you can get TYTN on Vodafone, www.expansys.com and www.MobileFun.co.uk on contract.
Does anyone know of any place where I can buy TYTN on t-mobile contract?
I have called www.MobileFun.co.uk and they said that new contracts should be available later this month.

t-mobile
Phoned T-mobile today and they said later this month, whatever that means.

same with me. lady on the phone advised to check back their website regularly, as exact release date is not yet known, however it should be available 'soon'.
in my opinion, T-Mobile waits with testing device properly and/or for the latest ROM supporting HSDPA. The Register announced about month ago that T-Mobile is planning HSDPA network launch on 1st of August, but nothing like that happened...

HSDPA is live on Vodafone, O2, 3 and T-Mob but in limited places

A guy on 4winmobile was told August 16th by the CS dept.

Thats great news. The best deal I found so far is on O2
700 min 100 txt £50p/m 12m/c £53 for tytn on Expansys, now they increased the device price for the same contract to £111
This is ideal for international calls because on o2 you do not pay 0870 & 0845

TyTN, free.
The TyTN is free at buymobilephones on a £30 contract (18 month) with Orange.
http://www.buymobilephones.net/store/merchant-4-75-936-Phones.ihtml
The device is available at this price on the Orange Canary & Racoon packages.
I am not really fussed which network I end up on as long as I find the best contract/price combination. I've had a look around and can't see this deal bettered elsewhere, anyone?

Great !!!! That is by far the best deal. They state that the phone is htc m3100 but the photo shows TyTn. I'll check and give an update.
I will wait for t-mobile, because of unlimited data allowance.
Some people say that it might be data locked when it comes out. ... I hope not.

I have just taken the plunge; I will update this thread with information on what I receive, whether it is a HTC TyTN with an Orange SIM in it or a fully branded SPV M3100.

So you bought it?

Bought and paid for a couple of hours ago,
they may get the phone to me by tomorrow, in which case its goodbye weekend (if you are reading this thread you'll know what I mean). Failing that I hope to have it by Monday. Had to shell out £25 for a micro SD (transflash).
As it stood the Orange package was too tempting and I doubt that the price was going to be beaten regardless of the carrier I went with. I have used that particular website before, they are pretty good although they did have the Qtek 8500 (for girlfriend) on for free on a £25 tariff on O2 then they then changed all the tarrifs and jacked the price up, i'm not taking any chances.

You might be right, that happened on Expansys (see above). The thing for me is that I make a lot of international calls and on o2 I don't pay for them.
So if I was on Orange 700min p/m I would need to pay: 700x7.5p=£52.5 more than on o2.
This is because 0870 & 0845 numbers are included in free minutes.

There's no mention of a data package to go with this, how much are they charging for that?

Hi,
Data package is about £4 for 4 megs of data or £10 for 10 megs (see orange website for exact data charges). Its a pound a meg if you go over your allowance, be wary of T Mobile re this, they charge a whopping £7 a meg if you go over your allowance. I reckon with a data bundle and insurance i will be about £40/45 a month, pretty much what i pay now with T Mobile.

I'm almost positive HSDPA is NOT available on O2 yet. I called customer services - they said no.
If you search on the internet, they've always claimed Q3 2006.

Oh, and O2's data prices suck big time. £3 per MB and there is no "unlimited" package - unlike TMobile.
As soon as the Vario II is released - I'm done with O2! Hello Web n Walk!

O2 suprisingly good Universal Deals at shop.o2.co.uk

Dear All,
I'm a current XDA I and II owner who has been spending an unhealthy amount of time on the xda-developers forum waiting for the Universal to be announced and then available.
To get right to the point, after considerable analysis I have concluded that O2 is shipping the best value XDA, plus in black it also looks the best IMHO!
To be Specific: (GBP = Pounds sterling)
a) Went to O2 shop website
http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/o2uk/jsp/handset/SelectHandset.do?paramName=3g
b) choose XDA EXEC, select 12 Month tab, Online 50 contract
c) Phone costs 139.99 GBP
c2) Yes, I'll say that again: Phone costs 139.99 GBP
d) 12 months contract at 19 GBP monthly = 228 GBP
e) Total 12 month committment is about 370 GBP.
f) Customer service say unlocking is 15 GBP
g) Consider the ITS (International Traveller Option) for 3 GBP monthly to reduce the totally outrageous cost of non UK calls to only moderately outrageous.
The best deal I have seen so far. But wait for the potential gotchas:
1. Though I have saved a screen print I was suspicious that the 12 and 18th month contracts had the same online 50 tarrif. Hope not a shop error
2. I was sent an order reference but can't seem to check it online
3. O2 customer support say my order is with the credit checking dept and there may be a problem.
With my naive and optimistic head on I hope O2 will honour my order and I will be a happy and satisfied customer.
regards marcus
PS: it also says: Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005 (though when I called customer support they said this was incorrect and are getting back to me Tuesday 18th December 2005)
They still only have the 2MB and 4MB data bundles though by the looks of things.
Not that you would want to risk the deal, but aren't you also free to switch tariffs after 6 months?
V
Could we in the US get that phone, with that plan, pay it in full, and just toddle off? No harm, no foul since paid in full for 12 months. Still a better deal than buying it here locally.

could be nice ay?
Wow.. ok let me get this sorted in my head.. I can get a HTC Universal for one year for only £367.99? If so why do people pay £669.95 for the JASJAR?
A lot of people don't like getting involved in plans and have carrier locked phones. So they spend the big bucks and buy an unlocked device.
I'd really like to know if US residents can buy this device on the plan mentioned above and pay it in full. Save us about $500-$600 dollars US.
Anyone know?
O2 Online 500 Tarrif
I just got my O2 XDA Exec today and am still waiting for it to charge,
Not sure why they aren`t advertising it on the website but.
O2 have a fantastic tariff offers for new 3G handset customers.
I called the www.o2.co.uk/shop (08702257879) and was sold the "Online 500" package with the O2 XDA Exec handset.
O2 XDA Exec = £139.99
Online 500 = £35 per month (12 month contract)
500 inclusive X-network calls
500 text messages
1mb per month free GPRS
Also took the comprehensive insureance = £4.99 per month
(This phone is so expensive offline. That if I lost\damaged it I doubt that I`d buy it offline)
Noticed the comment on the O2 website about:
"Unlimited free GPRS and i-mode browsing until 31st December 2005"
I asked the sales rep to confirm and he says that if its on the website then its gospal. Also confirmed with O2 customer service.
I don`t think you can find a better Tariff...

I'm pretty sure thats a mistake. Exec isn't an imode phone. So if the imode bit is wrong - the gprs bit is almost certainly wrong as well.
Please tell me how to dial the number from the US........(tech smart, analog phone DUMB)

Hi. I went for the same deal and received it Monday morning The only disappointment is that even after 15mins of haggling, getting them to drop the price and contract rates, 02 couldn’t match it when upgrading my XDAII.
I don’t understand that at all :?

O2 Exec Deals
Just got mine for 109.99. They offered it at 229.99 but after I said I would take out another online deal for 139.99 + 19 per month for 12 months, they came back with this deal on my original contract. I am currently with O2 on contract @30 per month. This is now being reduced to £20 per month for the same minutes etc saving £120 over the year (leaves the phone costing 109.99).
This comes just at the right time for me as I'm testing Exchange SP2 with this device for a few companies that I deal with.
Roll on tomorrow!!!!
It doesn't have the feature pack install, how will you use the Ex 2003 SP2 puch mail without it?
First post so hello all!
I've just bought an XDA for £114.99 plus 12 month contract @ £19 per month.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/o2uk/j...tails.jsp?prodID=consumer:O2:XDAExec:3G:GROUP
I'm not a student and there were no eligibility checks.
Alternatively register with Quidco and get £35 off the £139.99 (eventually)
O2 XDA Exec..
I'm a tad confised
On the URL posted above it says "Pc Sync - No"
I 'm assuming that this is incorrect ................
http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/
looks like this is a student offer so they may limit what the device can do
Just placed my order for an XDA Exec from O2 shop too, hopefully it should be with me Saturday morning. I opted for the Online 200 at 30 pounds per month and got the handset for £139.99. I went into an O2 shop after work and although they had 2 in stock, they wanted me to pay more for a contract and still pay £149 for the phone! How ridiculous! Anyhow, I can't wait for my Exec to arrive, I shouldn't be upgrading really as I am only 5 months into an existing contract with my XDA IIs. Figure I can sell that with all the accessories (GPS etc) and break even paying off the rest of my existing contract.
Hope this free GPRS is not a mix up, nobody seems to know for sure, but hey we'll see!

Well a colleague and I have been using O2 GPRS with ActiveSync over the internet to sync with Exchange 2003 for months and still no data charge. So Im pretty sure the no charge deal is still on. It will be painful when it finishes though. I think they just want to hook everyone in.

Better, sure, but cheaper? Unless you're looking at more than 512mb/month, I thought O2 and Vodafone were the networks to beat.
Orange are certainly not cheaper than O2 for data. I pay £18/month for 75MB on O2.

thanks for the enlightenment...
I spoke to Orange before buying my O2 Exec and the Orange tariffs were significantly more expensive for me. Overseas calling or being called while overseas were very, very expensive.
I didn't look into the data tariffs because I don't use GPRS much.

uograding from the orange version of the xda, mobile number escapes me, on your plan 200, or similar, but I Have a total of 4 contracts with them so i think this helped as a mate of mine was quoted 199 pounds
thanks..
was finally quoted £249 on my current price match plan (500mins/3 £25)
told them about o2's price and passed to the retention dept.
they reduced it to a £199 price upgrade.. told em bye bye...
Got mine today
Upgraded on my £25/month contract, for £14.99
I was offered it at £199 to start, then gave the old 'i've been with Orange for years blah blah', they then reduced it to £14.99
I have been with Orange for 6 years, 2 contracts all the time, monthly spend £50-£75.
Hope this helps someone in their quest for the best deal!!

o2 GPRS - Anyone ACTUALLY being charged yet ?

Following on from their threats to begin charging on 31st March (as per other thread )
I can still see no activity on the online bill checker
I'll be a little bit annoyed if they don't charge as threatened now - As I have gone out and bought an MDA Pro with their one of T-mobiles new unlimited web tarrifs to compensate
Anyone noticed they are being charged yet ?
think its from may 2nd onwards when they said they were going to start charging
Some of us were told 2nd May (as you suggest) - and some of us were told 31st March (like me ) but there is nothing moving on the GPRS counter on o2's site yet !
Ah well , now I have two universals and a Vario anyway
If we didn't receive a message stating March or May (I only signed up to o2 in January), then is it safe to assume unlimited free access (based on earlier experiences) or do they even have to tell you that they are now charging? As this is outside what you are supposed to be paying for (ie, their tariffs say you should be paying, with only 100kb free a month - pointless limit as that lasts less than 10 minutes!), then I suppose that they could legitimately charge and backdate if the mood took them?
Does anyone know the official view? I haven't used it this past month much as I became worried that I would be landed with a hefty bill - I even went off and bought a Safecome SDIO Wifi card for home use (another thread, another problem!) after happily having XDAII pda internet access for two months.
Many thanks

Yup. O2 are increibly slow moving on this and have been caught on the back foot by flext + unlim data.
We charge £75 for unlim data, T-Mob now charge £7.50. Ten times less.
Our new business tariffs are nowhere near as good as T-Mobiles FLEXT accounts.
We're gonna get creamed by T-Mobile, absolutely creamed. I've sold NO phones at all this week, against a target of 2 per day, it's depressing. Business customers need to keep their numbers too, which means going back to Retentions to get it, and retentions ALWAYS beats or matches our prices!
Luckily I got offered a job out of the blue last night, and hooked up with a girl whos a friend of the girl who offered me the job out of the blue as well, AND my HT820 headphones arrived last night, just in time for the new A2DP upgrade for my Exec.... so I'm not complaining too much...

o2 GPRS
You should be ok, I have just recently joined the wonderful ranks of T mobile flext + web n walk (25% discount on the flext 30 so £22.50 and if you sign up the web n walk for the term on taking out the contract its only £5.60ish pm). Bur before I was on o2 enjoying the benefits of free GPRS.
What I did was keep phoning customer services about once a month and noted who i spoke to, the date and time, and got them to confirm it was still free and that they would inform us by post or text if they were to start charging.
Of course they didn't, and one day I received a hefty bill (as expected). I phoned them up and quoted each person I had spoken to, the date ,the time and what they had actually said and they just couldn't argue. After a bit of debating they decided to let it drop

I'k simply not giving them the money they're asking for for the data. Why should we have to run round circles coz they're ****wits?
The CS girl asked me to fax my bill etc etc, but why should I? I'm gonna email cs again, tell them the score, get them to SORT it. I've canceled the DD, so they can whistle.
o2 GPRS
I should have said that i've experienced loads of hassle with o2 CS in the past, which is the reason why I noted everything.
The only reson I stayed with them last time was because they "made me an offer i couldn't refuse." When they said that this year, I told them to stick it where the sun don't shine.
T mobile are definately on to a winner with flext and web n walk. I've been after a tariff like this in years. Also, their coverage is up with the best now too.!!

Yeah, in June, when the Vario II is likely released, I'll be six months into my 1 year with O2. Thank God I didn't let the appeal of free texts and minutes sway me to an 18 month contract. I'll then simply reduce to the lowest tariff*, and once that's implemented, I'll buy it out.
In the meantime, I'll get the Vario II from T-Mobile on the Relax+webwalk tariff, since I only ever do 1 year deals
The incompetence of O2 will be a distant memory. I can only hope that T-Mobile aren't equally stupid.
* Would I have to give 28/30 days notice for this?

Someone on the MSE forum has just been billed for £370 of GPRS (backdated  - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=194449). I notice that my online unbilled calls area is showing 100KB used when it hasn't recorded anything before (since January).
Do they have to tell you that they are now recording data usage? I suppose they will claim they don't need to as they never said it was free anyway .

In my case they DID say it was free. Your friend there should not have b4een charged for data on 29th, 30th, and 31st March. He should query that, refuse to pay it, like I did.

I just got hit for £160 for gprs as my audible air kicked in and went on a downloading spree.

Bother!
Just noticed a new heading has appeared on my online bill this month. Under "Unbilled Usage" it has another heading "Unbilled Usage to Date" - clicking on that now shows UK GPRS Mobile web - spent £30 last month without even realising it (as it has been free in previous months). No text message notifying me of this.
Ah well, end of that then .

I've been looking in to getting hold of one of these and finally decided to take the plunge.

Just wait a week or so, i guess the reason O2 are out is because they offer it for £49.99 with an online tariff £19 for 50 any network mins and 200 texts
Gotta love it
Are these locked to the O2 network? I've been waiting for more than 3 weeks on vodafone and there's still no signs of stock coming in.
as far as im aware O2 stopped locking their phones, as you have to pay for the year anyway.
I could be wrong though, i dont have another sim to test atm.
O2 Mini S Unlocked?
I can confirm they are unlocked. As is the universal.
from O2.
Regards
Chris
thanks. Anyone knows when the phones will be back in stock? I was told May 16 by Vodafone but its still not in. I'm wondering if I should move to O2 if they have it in.
there is never a shortage on EBAY =)

as above - vodafone business store online has (limited stock) them
No stock on vodafone or o2. No stock on vodafone business site as well. Apparently, they hold the same stock. Anyone with info on release dates for more handsets?
I was in a Cingular store yesterday and they had a bunch.
Does none think that the fact that the replacement for the wizard (hermes) is due out very soon and they are bound to be concentrating thier efforts and resources on producing that?
O2 UK Website isn't out of stock: http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/o2uk/jsp/handsets/viewHandsetDetails.jsp?prodID=consumer:O2:XDAMini:GROUP
Ordered mine pretty recently and have had it for about two weeks now, really pleased with the price!! It came with the new rom on it and everything. Surely they must be loosing money on this...
£470 Phone (last time I checked)
£50 for phone + 12 lots of about £20 a month
= £290 !!! Then you can cancel the contract as the phone is yours!! Bargain
Or get it from T-Mobile - FREE MDA Vario (XDA Mini s) PLUS FREE unlimited GPRS 'web & walk' for about £20 a month
Personally, i would wait for the Vario II if i was buying again. But as people righly say, you could wait for something better forever.

Customer care on 191. Basically, I want to upgrade my current mobile and was offered a good deal on this model. When I accepted, the chap told me it was out of stock. The date keeps on being pushed back... last I heard it was 22 May and still its not in. I've been asking them to supply me one from my business site but the lady (who asked her manager) said it was out of stock and that they obtain their sources from the same stock list. ??? Whether its vodafone not wanting me to upgrade and playing games or not I don't know but my patiance is running out... I might go to O2 soon.

Where is this deal? I can't find it on the t-mobile website. It seems to be sold only with GPS copilot and the cheapest is £169 for the phone on a £20/month tariff for 18 months,

You have to phone thier direct sales line to get it without co-pilot. I don't know why its not on the web site.
I can get this on a new contract and its not upgrade? If so, I'll get it first thing tomorrow!
Just spoke to tmobile. They do the Vario for £40 on a £27/month relax20 + web and walk tariff. On a £20/month tariff, its £80. So still cheaper on O2...

Vodafone 1605 VPA Compact III in UK?

I am currently with Vodafone and want to upgrade my handset to a 1605 VPA Compact III or equivilent. Is this handset available in the UK? I know some members have one.
I have been into Vodafone shops, they have never heard of it. I have tried looking on the Vodafone website as well, no luck. Phoned Vodafone's upgrade department, they have the Qtek 9100 Qtek 1640 and VPA Compact (but not III) Any ideas how I can get the 1605 and from where?
Thanks.
Ask for the HTC v1605 or the QTek v1605. That is what it is called on their systems (When I ordered it it was the Qtek v1605, but on the order form it is HTC v1605). For a detailed review, look here. Also just call the upgrade dept, as you should get one of the newer ones (HT631x S/N).
Thanks for the info bydandie. I'll phone them later. Do you mind telling me how much you paid for the upgrade?
I got mine on ebay from phone_efficient_ltd for £320

I got mine new, for £72.95 on Anytime 250 STC.
Shop around on the T-Mobile website and work out which deal you could get with them then ask Voda to match it. If they can't, then unless T-Mob have a poor signal, I'd recommend moving as the WnW on FlexT is awesome! 8)
(BTW if you go down the T-Mob route, I think we could both get a referral fee IIRC)
Vodafone upgrade dept did have the handset, listed as HTC v1605. Spoke to one of the loyalty/promotions managers after I suggested I'm tempted to leave, he said the absolute best deal I could get the handset for is £200 on my current tariff Anytime 200. Even if I increased my tariff they couldn't drop the price of the handset. It's T-Mobile or Orange unless Vodafone decide to offer me a better deal.
bydandie, can you PM me your T-M referral details in case I do go with them.
i got my one free on a 35 month contract from voda, go in store and ask for a discount. make sure you go do a Voda staore that has a business deptartment.

bobby, did you sign up as a new customer or just upgrade?
I got mine as an upgrade from voda in august for £80 on my existing £22/month tariff. Nobody had heard of it at that time and looks like they still haven't really. Am on my 4th handset now, first one was early S/N and had screen alignment problem almost immediately, next two were later S/N and didn't have screen problems but had unresponsive keys, 4th one is worryingly back at the earlier S/N but so far has no screen problems at all and all keys work perfectly 3 weeks in.

Thats a terrible price, I got my Vario2 (the T Mobile brand name) for £29.99 with an 18m FlexT 35 WnW Plus contract for £47.50 per month. Comes with £5 off for the first 3 months as a business customer as well.
Now these handsets are £500 on Expansys without a contract so over 12months I'll have paid £599.99 and ended up with the same phone (that comes with support), £180 call/text allowance a month and 3Gb net access on a 3.5G aka HSDPA or 2.75G aka Edge network, and can get through to customer services within 2mins.
I never got through to Orange even when I was a business customer in that amount of time, in fact I got fed up with the 30min wait trying to get through to orange in the past so I'm very pleased with T Mobile.
I think they have realised that net access will drive the 3.5G/HSDPA technology forward in the short term not video calls or streaming tv services, which will account for their fantastic WebNWalk packages. (a very happy customer so far)
This morning Vodafones upgrade dept offered it to me for £39.99 as long as I stay with them on my current tariff for another 18 months. Seemed a fair deal so I ordered it. Arrives tomorrow morning
Mine arrived yesterday. Cost me £25 for the phone so that I didn't leave I'm on Anytime 200. The first time they quoted me a price they said over £200 so I just asked for my PAC code and I got transferred to the retension department who said I could have it for £25 on my current tariff. I did mention that you could get it from Orange free on a £30 a month contract.
If you want one off contract (SIM FREE) then I am selling my spare one here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....90044423776&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT&rd=1
