Why don't you buy a 'Y' cable on ebay as its name suggests it plugs into lighter socket and powers your PDA & GPS unit.
Mike

because this is not what I mean..I don't wanna charge my gps and universal at the same time...what I need the extender for is to extend the existing cigi lighter cable so that I can hide it nitly in my car. I need mini usb cablle extender not y cable. any way cheers, cudo

I have not seen any mini-USB type B 5 Pin connectors that are extension cables.
You might try a new cable that has a USB to mini USB 5 pin type B connector that has the length you need connected to a cigarette lighter with a USB output. This is what I use to charge my iPOD (with iPOD cable), Wizard, GPS, and iAudio mp3 player.
Something like this Cigarette lighter to USB:

Something like this for a cable:

Or for a 10 foot cable:

hi, i have found the way around. just got myself a cig lighter extender
it works like a charm now...no cables hanging around..everything nice and tidy

Y Mini USB cable

Any ideas where I can get a Y mini usb cable from?
I want to charge my Jas and GPS at the same time if possible as both have mini usb power.
Thanks!
about £10 on ebay.
dual car charger for Exec
Sadly not the one I'm lookin for.
Need one with two mini usb sockets on the end.
Looks like you cant get em
Dave
It would be easy enough to make one - just buy two of the standard car charger types, and run both cables from the same cigarette lighter plug.
Easy, and still doable for a tenner.
Cheers,
Steve.

In the UK looking for a TWO PIN EUROPEAN charger for Wizard

I am in the UK and looking for a two pin euro charger for my phone - if it is packaged with a 12v charger or any other kit i dont really mind, as I could do with an extra car one.
Alternately - I have a 'plug' for a UK socket that instead of having a cable on it has a socket like a car charger at the back, so I can use it with a car charger for any new mobile I get so I have a second mains charger - is there a euro-two pin plg equivalent of this?
Cheers
Any USB charger (there are many varieties) should work fine, so you just have to find a Euro-plugged USB charger then stick the USB cable into the charger.
For example, I have the iPod USB charger with swappable front plugs, which charge my Wizard, Sony Ericsson phone and the iPod.
Exactly, but it is finding a two pin one that is the problem.
Try Expansys. They usually have a wide variety of weird and random plug combinations so you might be lucky there.
alternatively - a bit uglier - get a travel plug converter (just the plug converter, not the big transformers). The charger that came in the box is rated for 100V-240V and ~50Hz-~60Hz - so it'll work in EU, USA, UK, JP - as long as I bring the plug converter so that it'll physically fit

£5.99 plus postage. Uses the standard usb cable that came with the device.
I've bought a few things from them - good quality.

By default, the standard USB sync cable will not charge from a cigarette lighter / mains adaptor USB socket, it will only charge via a computer.
If you want to modify the cable so it will charge from a cigarette lighter etc, you need to short pins 4 and 5 of the mini USB end. Do a google search for a diagram etc. Once modified the cable will no longer work as a sync cable.

I am puzzled. I understand what you are saying about the connections, but what puzzles me is I have a GPS receiver that I bought which came with a flexible USB charger and had a cigarette adapter and mains adapter (both US and UK) in the box.
I bought a cradle for my Vario (complete with usb sync cable) so don't need the the usb sync cable supplied with the Vario in the office. So I use it in the car with the USB Cigarette adapter that came with the GPS unit and it charges the Vario in the car with no problem.
I haven't tried it with the USB mains adapter yet, but having seen the above reply will try it tomorrow, but I'm sure it will work because its the cable that should prevent it.

I beg to differ. My shiny white Apple iPod USB charger works perfectly as a charger for the Wizard, with the USB cable provided with the phone.
I'm aware that some phones including the Razr and Blackberry are sometimes reported to be picky about the USB chargers, but so far Wizard has no such curiosities.

Not really viable - as often when abroad i just take a rucksack and see where i end up - so ideally everything is light and preferably a cable that is permanently attached to the plug.
Incidentally - there is a company in italy called Wind doing a PAYG sim that offers a gig of data in Italy for 20 euros - so not much use to most here - but if you use it for roaming in europe - they drop it to 20% of that - so 204.8 meg for 20 euros per month - Tmobile charges 1500 and orange 2 grand for the same!

Minis USB connector

On pics the mini usb connector seems diferent like other PDA's like Prohet or Universal (square on one side). This would be not compatible with old light car charge... It is?
Thanks.
I'm still using my old cable from my Wizard to charge at work. The socket itself seems a slightly different shape but supports the regular cables.
The connector is a little bit wider on one side so that one can plug-in the proprietory head-set connector. Any mini-USB connector should fit in, but the head-set will not fit into a standard mini-USB plug...

Headset? hummm not hava tipical jack or minijack for headset?
Another problem to resist to buy! Actually I have a Prophet with 4GB SD and only 0,5 free... jejejeje Add no minijack for my car conection...
I cannot understand why not similar connections and peripherics on similar products
The mini USB AC adapter and cigarette lighter chargfer from my wife's RAZR both work fine on my Cingular 8525.

TyTN Power Connector - Same As Any Other Pocket PCs?

In my desperation to find a car mount that connects straight into the cigarette lighter so that I don't have to screw/stick one on to the dash, I have been thinking about getting one that's meant for another kind of PDA that hopefully has the same connector as the TyTN.
On Gomadic's site on this page: http://www.gomadic.com/car-auto-mounts-cat.html
they list the HTC: Blue Angel, Falcon, Harrier, Himalaya, Wallaby, Prophet, Apache, Magician, Prodigy, Wizard & Galaxy.
Is anyone sure about whether any of those have the same USB connection as the TyTN? The company makes fantastic mounts which is why I want to get another one from them to replace the one I used for my XDA II.
the power adaptor from the Wizard will work with the TyTN.
Thanks!
I checked this out using pictures from the net and saw it was the same! So I've ordered a suitable holder from Gomadic.
Standard mini-usb, but with an optional extension for their pain in the a$$ audio output/headset. But any mini-usb is fine for power.

Actually, not completely true!
While any mini-USB cable should be fine for ActiveSync/desktop charging, not all DC mini-USB chargers are alike! There is definitely a specific voltage/wiring configuration requirement required for DC charging the TyTN.
Make sure you pick a charger that is compatible with the Wizard or the Universal, and you'll be fine... Others may or may not work!
The mini-usb for charging has extra pins connected to start charging.
Simplest method is to buy a charger that has a normal USB output (anything from 300mA up will do) best to buy a travel one that has interchangable UK/Europe/US mains heads and a 12/24V cigarette lighter adapter.
Chop the cable off your TyTn mains charger close to the power head and fit a standard USB connector to the cable.
Voila! you have a mains/mobile charger that DEFINITLY works mobile...

Any USB cable for connecting Blackstone to PC?

Can I use any standard USB cable for syncronizing the Blackstone with my PC?
I'm sure you can.

The connector in the Touch HD is a ext-USB but it's compatible with standard mini usb cables (and with my old HTC Universal Car charger and home charger). So you can use any mini usb cables you have (for ex. those usually used for cameras)
The ext-USB standard is required for special headsets like those where you have a minidisplay and buttons for track changing, skip, etc.....
At the moment I don't know if other devices that use ext-USB have been released.
Have fun
Yes the Touch will accept any USB cable, however dont think that the lead provided will work the other way as it does not. Its squared off and will not fit my N95, PSP or any other of the gadgets sitting around
