XDAIIi (HTC ALPINE) 2400mAh After Market Battery

Hi there people I thought I'd share my experiences with you.
Recently I bought a 2400mAh battery (NEW) from eBay for a modest 10GBP (with another 11GBP P&P from Hong Kong), and I just want to say it's amazing.
My XDAIIi runs for so much longer now if I was to put a figure on it I'd say around 33-38% on full PDA functions. Which I find well worth it seen as the standard battery costs 19GBP from O2, the only thing is that the battery is bigger by around 5 millimetres, but it comes with its own backplate to allow it to fit snugly into the back of the handset.
I also bought from ebay the other following items:
Poly Carbonate Case (0.99GBP)
Signal Booster (0.99GBP)
The poly carbonate case, I find to be infinatly better than the standard leather case as it fits into your pocket easier (I dont wear the leather case on my belt), but although it lacks memory card holders (as you would get in the leather case) it more than makes up for it as it is way more aesthetically pleasing. A absolute bargain at 99p, but unfortunatly it only is made to take the standard battery and backplate.
The signal booster when I saw it I must say I was more than a little sceptical over whether it really does work but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. When it arrived I discovered that it was only a very small metal strip set in a sticker, and immeadiatly I thought I had been ripped off, but after fixing it to the inside of the battery backplate I did notice that it does actually make a differenc, however small, a difference is a difference and I definatly notice that calls are now more clearer and tend not to distort as much, but don't think that it will increase your signal enough to make calls in a tunnel lol.
Well for all in all around 30 quids worth on eBay (inc P&P) I'd say that was not too bad.
If anyone else knows of any good aftermarket products, especially a aluminium/metal or poly carbonate case that will accomidate the extra large backplate then please let me know.

http://pdaden.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&action=view&product_id=17273&category_id=507
I bought one in the yahoo auction site, the battery work so well.
I even keep the phone on 24 hours, and run excel, surf the net with gprs, listern mp3, reading ebooks, updating stock profolio etc. and it still have 30% battery left after 4 days.
It is excellent, I never afraid of being run out of battery.
And, where did you buy this item: Poly Carbonate Case (0.99GBP)
Signal Booster (0.99GBP) ?
Thanks
told you
told you above . . . ebay lol
Ohhh, I am sorry I just made a search in ebay, and I didn't see it , please could you provide me the links...
Very pleasant...

If I upgrade to a Xda IIi
So... I found it. But I am still one question... with the extended battery... what case do you use?
It´s possible to use a metal one?
Thanks.
I asking this because actually I have a Xda II and I want to know what things I could use from my xda II if I get a Xda IIi...
Thanks
XDAII
Well what I've found is that more or less everything for the XDA II works perfectly well with the XDA IIi, even programs etc, the battery is 5mm thicker than the standard and is supplied wth a back cover for it, its a sturdy plastic number, but unfortunatly not metal , i dont know if anyone out there has a aftermarket metal one, just know one thing . . . google doesnt have the answer :'(
as for the signal booster:

4500mA battery does not work good. It simply does not gain 4500mA capacity... Works sligtly better than origional.
Going to make a charging device for this battery... Anyone has som ideas how to do that.
my first 2400mAh battery went dead after 6 months. It started with not possible to connect the phone function, then it will hardreset by itself. Then the battery drains away quickly.
I had take out the battery and tried to recharge it. But even I recharged it, the battery won't work anymore.
To be honest, I am scared to use third party battery. But it was so good to use, so that I bought a new 2400mAh battery eventually.
Good luck to all of us, It is good to have insurance as well.

Considering getting an M3100 off eBay...is it still worth it?

I have a Wizard (XDA Mini S) and O2's Trion doesn't seem to be to appealing seeing as how much it could cost me (not to mention lock me into another contract).
After poking around on eBay, I see M3100s going for 50 to 150++ and it is very tempting to get one as Kaiser seems far off. To my knowledge the M3100 has autofocus (some like the Qtek one don't?) and I also like the black body and key layout (no other reason for this specific variant).
I am just curious whether or not it's still worth going for one (if I can get it on the cheap) and what is drawing me to the hermes over the wizard (I love the keyboard and the rest of it):
- 3G
- Speed (apparently the samsung can be overclocked?)
- Better camera (Wizard's lack of macro makes it a pain to photograph chip markings)
- Jog dial
The nice to have GPS and FM radio are hard to find and the Kaiser will have a high markup (I am not looking for the latest and greatest right now as I waiting for something newer before I drop a lot of dough). So will the Hermes suit me and will an investment of around 100 pounds be a sound one (is it too much and also seeing as I can unlock it myself...I should have no problems right?)
One thing bugging me is the screen alignment issue but if it's a recent one I doubt it should be there and warranty for stuff off eBay (how do I deal with this?)?
Well worth it
The alignment issue is not persistent in all devices, I've just had my Vario II replaced and there is not sign of it so far (touch wood).
When the issue was there it was bareable...
Also worth baring in mind that the Vario II/ 3100 is still less than 12 months on the market, so it would be under manufacturers warranty = just walk in the shop and let them sort it out....
Personally It's a cracking unit, and if you can get a good deal off e-bay it'll last you a long time.
Personally I wish I'd found this forum sooner as I've been a long time smartphone/ pocket PC owner, there are loads of excellent resources here mate.

HERM300
I have been looking around a fair bit but I'm a little lost why some eBay sellers say the Vodafone V1605 doesn't do 3G sims. I know it supposedly needs a firmware update to get HSDPA but except that is there any issue with the 3G uSIM?
Has the Hermes really been on the market for under 12 months? It feels like I've seen it around for ages. The one thing pushing me towards the M3100 is the color (really don't want another siliver one) as I said but I can't seem to find a detailed list of differences between the various models (checked wiki and there's no mention of the 3G thing above or for that matter differences in camera if at all).
Funny thing is, I'm normally the type to patiently wait and then buy something but after going on eBay, that patience has vanished...also the numerous v1605 units going on the cheap are pretty tempting. I will also probably end up buying a black silicone case as well so I'm not too sure if the color will be a major issue.
There are no real differences between any of the variants. The camera is the same, the processor is the same, etc etc.
Yes the 3100 is the best looking one. I would go for it.
Thanks for the heads up but the M3100s seem fairly pricey (at least most start high...) maybe I'll strike a deal somewhere...some how. Oh well, keep looking...44 items being watched on eBay

No autofocus on either, afaik. It does have the lens slider to switch to macro though.
The camera is "okay". I recently took it on a skiing holiday where it got completely confused with the white balance and all the pictures came up with a very strong blue tint.
In general use, apart from exposure issues when there is high contrast and the flash being near-useless (I'm sure it's mistimed with the exposure), it takes a reasonable picture. Certainly no substitute for a dedicated camera though, imo.
Just got one
Hey i recently[09/04/07] got an Orange SPV M3100 + 2GB card + BT gps + extra screeen protector + cradle + extra battery for 240 quid (pounds sterling) including first class next day shipping off Ebay UK. Unfournately i recieved a unit with the screen allingnment issue and was totally unware about it being a common problem till i read you post... anyways still love the device and if your in a area that recieves HSPDA coverage its well worth it!
Yes black does feel very sleek, compared to my silver vario !

Aww man, the autofocus thing would be handy but well, macro shots are little important to me and as for dedicated camera, I don't have one on me right now but looking at what some people have taken, I doubt I'll be complaining about it for now. If it beats my wizard, I'm sold.

Well some of the sellers don't reveal the serials...at least I've had no luck and mind you, I'm trying to score one for under 100 - because I can't just spend and spend (have one wizard housing and silicone case on the way). Based on the fact that all these M3100s/V1605 are supposed to be under warranty, a walk into Orange/Vodafone should resolve such issues, However one thing I am hesitant about is how do I register the phone under my name once I acquire it?
Also does the GPS in the radio chip stand any chance of working? I've seen the the engineering thread and based on the pin setup (the fact that pins are tied to ground and such to disable the GPS portion) of the hermes, it doesn't sound practical but on the other hand I've seen one or two odd posts that it is only a crippled antenna.
Buy it already!

Got my v1605 for 175 quids, sim-free.
I wouldn't bother too much about the GPS hype, it isn't worth the trouble.. No screen alignment issues for me. Used the stock ROM for a couple of weeks and upgraded to numerous roms since.
Currently on Black v2.0 (WM6) and lovin' it. Yes, the TyTn is indeed a wise choice. I live in an area with full HSDPA coverage and I have since disconnected my ASDL broadband service (HSDPA seems to be wayyyyy faster).
I have push e-mail and other pop-access accounts. This device is indispensable for me as I travel a whole lot.
Cheers from Frankfurt.
175 from where? I know my price point maybe a little low but since it's eBay, I suppoe there's a chance but I do see some of them who have one bidder raise the price 3 times or more in a row (i.e from 50 pounds to 150) and now that bothers me.

Hey with regards to the warranty issue, i am gona have a go at it (since i am experiencing the sreen alightment issue). I will message my ebay seller and ask him if he can spare me the original reciept so i can possibly make a warranty claim at a orange shop, dont know if its gona work though.

Selling my x7501 for a Diamond..I think

Hi. First does anyone have any insight on the Diamond vs the x7501 (Pros & Cons so I can make up my mind) I have a 7501 that's 3 months old. It has the normal keyboard scratches from opening and closing. I have had a "Clear Protector" screen cover since new so there are absolutely no scratches on glass, has never been dropped or near water or rain. I have the original box with all paperwork and acc. I will sell it with all accessories including 4gb SD card, extra battery, docking station that charges phone and extra battery, 4 in 1 cable, 3 cases including a metal one that's brand new, car charger and extra stylus's. Anyone interested Plz email me. I will send pic's to interested parties...TJ

In my opinion keep it!
The Diamond is a very nice device but it cant come close to what an athena can do, not to mention the screen size!
If however you like a smaller device and the screen size is not of a cocern to you then you should get the HTC touch pro instead of the Diamond! It has by far better specs and also a keyboard, video out, flash light for the camera, sd card slot and last but not least 288 mb of ram!
I have seen a video of the touch pro in action and it is much much faster then the diamond, as you probably know diamond has some difficulty handling the touch flo3d, and it becomes very slow after a while! That is not the case with the touch pro however, from what I have seen!
Hope this helps!
Hi and thank you for your valued opinion. I will look into the "Touch" to see if it is what I'm looking for. I also heard about the "Lag" with the Diamond and that concerns me...TJ

Replacement Stylus

I recently lost my stylus, at a park I think. I put the pen in my pocket instead of putting it back in my phone. That was a dumb mistake
Does anyone have a suggestion on where to buy a replacement stylus from?
Seems the price can range from 5 for $8($1.60 per Stylus) to 3 for $20($6.70 per Stylus). Is there any advantage to buying the more expensive ones or are the cheap ones just as good?
I couldn't find a thread that addressed this issue, if I missed it a re-direct would be appreciated
I've bought my replacements for my tilt at eforcity
http://www.eforcity.com/metal-stylu...-ii-chtc4550st02.html?int=efsechtxtrigos-item
they do a lot of business on ebay and carry a whole range of other stuff too. They also give you a $5 coupon for your next purchase for giving a review on reseller ratings
but there are many other sellers out there, i've seen no difference in the quality of the stylus, though I did have problems with a Nintendo DS stylus I bought from a Chinese vendor once. but then again 90% of this kind of stuff comes from china.
I am also in need of a replacement stylus, i lost my original one, the replacement i purchased seems to have a rougher tip than the original, i'm afraid it will scratch the screen.
I've seen them before in a Best Buy store, look around the phone accessories, or, if all else fails, ask someone.
Thanks for the replies.
I ordered some off ebay. 3 for $7. Seem decent enough. Weight a little more than the originals, which I think is a good thing.
All I have to do is hope the pens don't explode now
Looks Like a Good Buy, the only thing you might have to worry about is 1) the ink leaks out into the phone( i don't think the kaiser battery would generate enough heat), 2) losing the cap for the pen since it is the snap of type, can remember where i got mine from , it actually screws off first time i ever tried to use the pen side(lol). just mentioned eforcity since i bought all my cases and stuff from them, guess i didn't buy my stylus from them since they have the same type with the snap off. they sell some strange stuff at notebook.egde, i might pick up the 15 pc screwdriver set for 4.99, gotta replace the buttons on my tilt.
Me too. lost 2 stylus and now after using new finger friendly ROM since few months I dont feel need of stylus.
Unlosable stylus
Instead of getting a "stick" stylus, why not get a object that acts like a stylus? sounds like a funny riddle, but when you own one, the stick styluses do seem funny.

Screen Replacement Success!

So, if your 2 year old is like mine, he's quite efficient at shattering your phone's screen. SO, I went online and found a replacement screen and set sbout installing it myself. I make no claim at any sort of electrical know-how... Damn it Jim, I'm a med student not an electrician. But I do enjoy my gadgets. Anyway, I went online and found some you-tube videos and successfully changed out the screen! Woo-Hoo! I used a hybrid of the two videos as one of them seemed a little too, much but it had a good rebuild sequence.
The first video has a good description of how to remove the screen (I didn't use the hair dryier and it worked just fine), and the second shows how to put it back. The second video should also be good to show how to replace other thinsg (camera, etc.).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUTPf8QyAVs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKhdz_Xa-Co
I hope this helps people out there make their own replacements a success!
May I ask how much did it cost you and how long did it took? Did you have to buy any special tools?
It required a small electronics set of screw drivers (phillips) and it came with a plastic pry tool that I used for everytyhing except taking the screws out. It also comes with a tiny star drive screwdriver that I held onto but didn't use. I purchased it onlie from someone that I thought was based in Cali, but it turns out that he's in China. So it took 2 to 3 weeks to get it to me. I paid 115 for it, but if this happens again (dear lord please no) I'll pay a little more for someone that I know is in the states. There's a discussion in the accessories forum that lists some sites that have replacement screens.
