Backup and Activesync - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I, and some others on here, have run into a problem. With a proplerly syncing 8125 and using Activesync 4.1 or newer, installing third party software has caused us to lose our Activesync connections. An error message comes up which tells the user to check the Activesync troubleshooting guide. Four of us that I know of have run into this problem. We can still 'explore' our devices and we are 'connected' to our PCs, but we cannot sync nor can we install or remove programs. In fact, going into settings > system > add/remove programs, one no longer sees the installed programs in the list.
It appears the only remedy is to do a hard reset and start the process of creating a new partnership over again.
Here is my question. I will be getting a third party back up program (I was thinking about sprite - it appears to get better reviews then spb - feedback appreciated). I will backup my device and sd card. If the problem arises again, what do I do about the backup of the Activesync and the partnership that existed assuming the same problem arises? Do I restore everything or everything but the Activesync? Can someone help a newbie please?
Thanks in advance!

What is this problem?

I can't make a standard partnership with my PC, everytime I get this messege and I makes e crazy
I tried to reinstall actuvsync, make a new partnership, delet the old partnership but nothing happend.
Please help, I can just make a quest partnership
is it the latest 3.7.1 ?
Yes it's v. 3.7.1
Shaytaan,
Are you able to try it on another PC?
If you can do so, at least you can narrow down the issue by eliminating the PC side, to then concentrate on the XDA.
I'd be thinking it's a database corruption on the XDA though, and I imagine a cold boot would be required to get everything working again. That said, I'm not talking from experience here - just thinking out loud I guess....
Codenix.
Thanks for replying
Soft reset didn't solve the problem, I tried many times.
I guess the problem happend after I installed Experince 2.0.3 and my dashboad disapeared from my ppc destop, so I decided to uninstall Exerience, after that I can't connect to my activsync again and there is nothing mentioned at activsync troubleshooting :x
Can anyone help please
Okay, then it sounds like it's more of a PC-side thing (if reset didn't fix it).
Once again, can you try it on another PC? If you find that you can set up a partnership on another PC, then it's going to be something on your PC which is causing the problem.
If you're using Win XP (and you know when the problem started, and you're using the built-in XP restore points which are on by default), you might be able to restore your PC to a point before your problems occured.
Codenix.
I could also imagine that the problem is on the PC side of things. What OUTLOOK version are you running? May it be that you have some corrupted data in there?
As bad as it sounds... you may need to go through a re-installation there...
thanks...
I have officeXP 2003 and winXP pro sp2
Now I hard reset my PPC and reinstall activsync.

USB Active Sync problems on windows 2003

Hey all,
I'm running Windows 2003 Server on my development system, and would like to connect to my MDA2.
Activesync does say it has connected sucessfully, but never shows the "New partnership" wizard. Any for of syncing or file browsing results in nothing but error messages like "Unable to retrieve device information". I've searched a lot of fora already and tried re-installing outlook, activesync and the driver that came with my mda 2. I also tried disabling my firewall, starting all available serviecs etc. Nothing seems to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
From other various posts uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync seems to be the solution to this problem and this worked for me. Ensure you have the latest version of ActiveSync - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx. Delete any current partnerships and then attach your device.
That didn't do the trick Activesync does start up, and a connection can be made, but the whole idea of partnerships seems to be diabled. There is no partnership wizard at startup, and no way to delete or edit the current partnership. I'll tyry again tonight, until then I'll just run all my updates from work

Uninstall, disable driver signing and reinstall.
Failing that, make sure you have all available updates from Windows Update and the latest build version of Activesync. 3.71 build 4034 is what I use. I've used this no problem on W2K3.

The only way I can get it to work is to kill explorer.exe and disable the anti-virus (Symantec corp 9.0), uninstall ASync, reinstall ASync, connect device.
This setup works all the time, but after a reboot I have to start all over. I've tried disabling driver signing, system file protection in any possible combination to no avail, maybe I should just re-install my system (or it may be that I have Visual Studio .Net 2005 installed, but that seems a bit far fetched.

Activesync Install Program issue

Hi all
When I try to install anything, Activesync does not seem to want to open the Add/Remove programs dialog box.
It will also not open when selected in the Tools menu, it appears that it flashes on the screen but does not open.
I am currently running an XDAII with 2003 SE, together with Activesync 3.8.0. I have tried downgrading / reinstalling, and my XDA works ok on other machines with activesync...
Help!!!
Problem Solved!
Problem Solved,
for anyone else who encounters this - it is an issue with the firewall - you need to allow the program CeAppMgr.exe full access to the internet.
I hope that helps someone!
Sorted!

Active Sync Problem

I had a crash on my MDA II so I had to make a reset. After the boot process and installing all the standard programs I connected it with my PC. But I was not able to use an old partnership.
So I have to configure it all again
How can I use the old partnership that I must not reconfigure my MDA II?
PS: Yeah I forgot to make a backup
why do you need to use the old patnership?
Sorry I totally forgot my post here. Very stressful last week.
I thought with the old partnership all programms will be installed automatically.
And is it possibly to make kind of a backup with active sync to restore everything with syncing after a crash?
if you have set activesync to backup
and you hardreset
and connect the device to the pc
and pick guest
and pick restore from <insert old patnership name here>
your device will get restore it settings and programs
thx i will try that

can any body help me with MDA

when ever i try to connect my MDA to PC is get this error "Synchronization cannot be completed. Disconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft Troubleshooter in Microsoft ". i tried everything i reinstalled active sync deleted the patnership. i cannot even install anything to mda using pc so i cannot even install sprite back up incase i do a hard reset can anybody help me with this problem.

1) Worst case, find a backup program that you can download as a CAB right to your phone... do that first. Try www.freecabs.de
2) I assume you've done a soft reset? Try unloading all of your Today plugins, soft reset, and try again.
3) Try turning off USB Advanced Functionality on your MDA.
4) Try unplugging and re-seating the USB cable.
5) Try rebooting your computer. Try Active Sync with *nothing* else running, including exiting everything unnecessary in the system tray.
6) Try different versions of ActiveSync... for example, I have problems with the newest version, so I'm using the last beta quite happily.
There's other stuff beyond all that. Post back if it's still not working... I seriously doubt a hard reset will be necessary.
Make sure you make provisdons for any firewall and antivirus programs to allow activesync to work. You can just disable it/them one at a time to see if they are the problem first.
