What does it mean when a file name has ship in it? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I am looking at ROM's and I found a few but I wanted to see what the difference is between shiped and a ROM that doesn't state it.
Is it an edited ROM?
Like these two.
Sorry if it's a noob question but I couldn't find the answer.
File: JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.exe
File: JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301.exe

As far as I am aware SHIP would normaly indicate that it is a complete working tested ROM. This will be the ROM that would appear on a new device assumming it was purchased after the ROMs release date.
e.g you buy a new imate jasjar and this will be the ROM it should be shipped with.
The other ROM example you give is of an old ROM.
so WWE means World Wide English _13076 is the OS ROM _164_ is the extended ROM (added games, apps etc) _10900 is the Radio ROM(bluetooth, signal etc)
Hope this helps

ROM - the fastest one

Hi there - I would love to know which ROM is the best and the fastest for the TYTN - there are so many but which one is the best ?
Pls give me your opnions !
Peter
My opinion is that you will need a flame-proof suit.
Each ROM is different, try them and choose what you prefer. The official release ROMS are apparently quite good. I personaly use Black Majik, and will update to Black Satin when it is available.
best rom
yes I tried several rom and the best one is black majik because it very fast and stable
if you want it send me your email
my actual ROM dates are:
Schap`s 3.30
Radio: 1.41.00.10
Do I have to change the CID an the RADIO version in order to install the Black Majik ?
Is there any description of the process for a layman ?

edit: hmm weird wmblack.info says it isnt available.. but im certain i downloaded black satin already as thats what ive been using as a test rom in core pro... weird.. let me go check.
Do you like Coke Zero or Pepsi Max?
I'm running Black Majik at the moment but really like Schap's ROMS.
Looking forward to his new one being released.
If you haven't loaded a cooked ROM before make sure you read the instructions on this forum.
Easier to spend some time reading now compared to spending time later trying to fix.

Peter,
Read read read.. . However, to answer some questions and hopefully help.
Try looking over my experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315119. I describe, with lots of relevant links, of my very successful experience with moving from WM5 to WM6 and Black MAJIK and the (then) latest radio version of 1.43.
No you do not need to change CID or radio to change OS ROM (ROM is in 3 variants: Radio, Extended and OS) Some upgrade ROMs can comprise any single, any mix or all ROMs combined - you'll need to read up on this on the actual ROM post links. The Hermes Wiki is the starting point but my experience will certainly help)
I have no experience of other ROMs but after LOTS of reading selected Black MAJIK and have not looked back since - see my linked post for comments from others too.
The Black series of OS ROMs are produced by JJ and he is working on a newer ROM called Black SATIN. JJ has a web site with basic 'Black' ROM info (http://wmblack.info/) and the download link. However, this only links to the latest 'Black' OS ROM and the latest version (SATIN) was broken so has been taken off the site. Take a look around for other posted links to his earlier version of Black MAJIK and you should find it if wanted (others are already asking and it's posted there somewhere I am sure - many of use have it on our PCs.
Black SATIN is based upon one of the official OS ROM releases (most other OS ROMs are not) but has been 'cooked' to modify it by adding/removing elements and optimising performance. All of the WM6 ROMs out there will have their fans and although the many posts are VERY long it is worth at least skim reading a few to get the general impression of the qualities of the ROM that you are interested in.
If you do not want to unblock your device (Super CID) to work with any sim card then the process could be:
1. Backup device settings/files and get all the files and config details saved
2. Read the advice then - Install Hard SPL
3. Read the advice then - Install new OS
4. Read the advice then - Install the new radio ROM
5. Rebuild and configure the device
The above process can be done physically in about 1 hour! BUT there is lots of reading to do. I personally spent about 3 days reading and alraedy had lots of knowldege - this is not actually required but such reading will greatly ease your fears of 'bricking' your device and leave you better able to cope should anything go wrong. When you have done it once then the process is very simply and you'll not think much of doing it all again - that's why so many people just tell you to read the posts and especially the wiki because they did for very good reason.
Warning - if you mess up the process by not following the very clear instructions then chances are it will have ben your own fault. But others will be there to help and it is most unlikely that someone on this site has not seen your problem.
Good luck
Thanks for the link - but under "Upgrading to WM6 Black Shadow" I get the answer "not released yet" - so from where do I get the Black Shadow rom file ???

Peter,
You must have misread my post. I assume that you mean the link to Black MAJIK - and if so then I wrote:

Your reply above to Peter7 ... "Read read read..etc" is one of the most succinct, clearly written & easy to understand posts I've read since I've started visiting here. From reading it ... and following the link to wmblacks website, I've found a ROM that I'm willing to try as my first departure from the native WM5 ROM that came with my Dopod 838Pro. My only disappointment is that Black Satin is not yet available.
Oh, well! I guess after I've upgraded once, a second upgrade will be all that much easier.
Regards ... and have a good day!

Polaris Dumped ROM's

Hi.
I was reading this forum for a few days ago. I used to have a Trinity but now I'm waiting for a new device... a Touch Cruise (Polaris).
Reading about ROM's, RADIO, etc, I found a very interesting link in the Kaiser forum, with a list of original dumped ROM's, in some languages and think it will be great if here, we can have a data base of original ROM's and RADIO versions, to help anybody who need to get the original ROM or RADIO for the device.
I am planning to dump mine when I get my Polaris, but still a little confuse about the whole process. May be some of you with more experience cooking ROM's, cloud help me or other owners to dump and post it for help.
I think it will be great to have it, like the Trinity forum.... What do you think?
Thanks

Thanks Daze81.
I don't know why I get to this when I used the "search".
But what I mean is dumped the original Rom's that come with our Polaris. For example, mine comes from Vodafone Portugal, and I like to dump it as it comes, and if I need to put the device back to original for warranty purposes. In the links you point, some are original, but most of them are cooked ROMs, like Christonge portuguese ROM, the only one that appears in PT.
But anyway, sorry to all for open a new thread to something that already exist...
if the Moderator wants to erase this, go ahead... and sorry

some questions about roms

Hi guys,
this is my first post in this forum.
A couple of days I've already been browsing through the forums and the wiki, and now I have a few simple questions regarding flashing of roms.
I'm the owner of a BLAC100 in the O2 Germany version (Rom:1.14.207.2 (241011) GER, Radio: 1.09.25.14)
As O2 has not (yet) offered their version of the 1.56.407.2 Rom I was thinking of flashing the generic version using USPL.
Ultimately I'm hoping to run a fully working Android on the device, but till then I'll probably have to wait a little longer.
Is it possible after flashing a different rom to completely restore the device to factory settings? (Is there a rom available?)
What happens to the software installed on SD?
I guess I'll have to reinstall that too?
THX in advance,
Kayoz
Welcome to the forum!
I assume the BLAC100 is the Blackstone?
I also have the touch hd originally from O2 Germany.
If you want to flash a new ROM, but you still want to keep the original SPL, then don't install an HSPL, but instead use USPL. Of course, if you were to use HSPL, you could always go back and put the original SPL for warranty purposes. It's really up to you. I've always only used USPL.
If one day you want your original stock ROM, then download it from this list here.
Wiki: Stock ROMs
Just scroll down to the Germany section, and pick the one that applies to you.
There are some great instructions on flashing ROMs here.
Follow them closely - especially if you want to flash a 1.56 ROM - you'll need to first update your SPL/HSPL/USPL to a 1.56 version. It is all explained in that tutorial.
I use Dutty's 3.7 XT ROM and it's great. I have used his ROMs since v2.1.
When you flash a new ROM, you'll most likely need to install the programs on your SD card again (at least - I have always had to). You can use a program like spb Backup to make an image of your device after you are done installing all your programs and adjusting all your settings. If you have to hard-reset, you can just restore that backup file and in no time you'll have all your programs back. However, if you flash a different ROM, that backup file will likely not work with it.
restore the device to factory settings == the rom you flashed's factory settings
there is no behind the screen rom you can always revert to after you flash your device
if change the rom you change the rom
only way to go back to how your phone was bought is to flash it again
with the rom version it came with like you would any other rom
Thanks for the quick replys!

There seem to be 3 different O2 roms (all of them appear to be homemade) which is the right one/what are the differences?
Or is it possible to create an image of the rom i have on the device atm, and revert back to that later?

Correction: Hmm, I just looked into it. Some do seem to be "homemade" or altered roms. (for example see this discussion). Thanks for pointing it out. I was under the impression they were 100% original stock roms.
I can't tell you what the differences are. It looks like the O2 roms are all the same. This table shows you the various stock roms in each country (scroll down). There it only shows O2 germany as having ROM 1.14.207.2(24011)
Correction: (old info erased) My original O2 rom was 1.14.207.2(24011). The 1.14.407.3 was once I flashed later.
Check your phone right now. Go to settings, system tab, device information and look and see what version it says you have. You can also look at the red numbers when you start your phone. Write those down, as they say your ROM and radio info etc...

I had my stock ROM for several weeks. And once I flashed Dutty's ROMs I never went back. I use his latest ROM right now (3.7 XT).
I made quite a few changes to my previous post, so you might want to read it again. I had some mistakes in there. I also included some new links with info if you are interested in backing up your current "true" stock rom. It would be really helpful for the rest of us too, since apparently the "stock" roms provided in the wiki are not 100% stock. I don't know if the altered stock roms in the wiki would be recognized as such and therefore void the warranty.

In my understanding making an image of the rom (dumping the rom) is basically saving all the contents of the rom.
If not please tell me what would be missing.

Yes, I believe you are right, but I am not sure if there are any hidden files or boot files that you need to make sure are included in there. And then, once you dump it, you have to make it "installable". My knowledge is not good in that area, so I don't want to give you information that could be wrong or misleading.
The best thing would be to post a thread in the Blackstone ROM Development forum.

Here is a link to Dutty's latest ROM for WM 6.1
It is faster and more user friendly and nicer design than my original stock ROM. It also has the new Manila version with the new contact cards etc... You can also use Manila in portrait or landscape mode.
It has extra useful apps without making the ROM a big bloat.
Check out the thread for details.

Here is a thread devoted to ROM extraction and creation.

ok, so I've read some more material and successfully dumped my rom, now working on reconstructing it so it can be flashed back onto the device.
I also did (my first) hard reset and I noticed after the hard reset the protocol version of the device changed from:
52.49a.25.26U
to:
52.49a.25.26H
anyone knows what that means?

Cool! Great to hear. It looks like we might now have a true 100% stock ROM for O2 Germany. (Assuming you'll share it with us )
Unfortunately I don't know the difference in protocols. Maybe someone else can help.
So, I've been playing around those last couple of days trying to reconstruct my rom.
I've been unsuccessful so far. When I'm trying to do nbsplit on a stock rom and then run imgfsfromnb on the payload i always end up with an empty imgfs.bin.
I also tried using Part02.raw as imgfs.bin directly then it only tells me not to use the created imgfs-new.bin.
anyone might know what i could be doing wrong?

Kayoz,
I was wondering, were you ever able to reconstruct your ROM?
Im looking to flash a different ROM onto my phone, but I am unwilling until I have a copy of my current ROM on my THD.
Does anyone know if it matters if two ROMs are identical in all aspects except for the protocol versions?
My ROM comes with
ROM version: 1.18.707.3 (23358) WWE
ROM date: 12/10/08
Radio version: 1.09.25.14
Protocol version: 52.49a.25.26W

But the closest that I was able to find was the RUU_BlackStone_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.18.707.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe which has a slightly different protocol.
Cheers.

How to BackUp original ROM

its for the raphael not the hd2 but the process is the same - dump the raw files then use a kitchen to re build the rom file.
Like 99 out of 100 times your telco provides your Official Rom through HTC's website if you register your device. I have a HTC P3300, one HTC P3600 and an HTC Diamond and I can download the official rom from HTC.
I know this is not what you're asking for, but it's the official rom installed on your device. If there are any extra apps and gizmos by your telco provider, then I don't know.
thank all the helps.

the next few days I am going to work on getting a new site going up on there. that will make things easier to find and everything else. right now I just have it up there to have it up there, I will work now on making it to a real site.
I can get those roms in there, and I will also work on getting universl roms in there, do you have a place where I can look for roms at?
Unfortunately no I was looking in xda ftp but I found only two here in:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Universal/WM5/
I've found shipped ROMs here too:

okay, i am downloading all of those now.
I will also be moving to a bigger server towm, it should have faster download speeds.
If it does not, then I will move to a dedicated server, with a 100MBPS dedicated port.
So either way there should be faster speeds coming soon. I have been very dissapointed with the speed of everything and I have been working to improve it has much has I can.
