A2DP High Frequency Noise - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Does anybody find that when listening MP3 through Bluetooth stereo headset, there is high frequency noise follows every voice of the song, however this high frequency noise does not appear when slience. I am using PocketMusic 4.2.6 and using Nokia HS-12W Bluetooth Headset, I heard some other Atom users' iTech R35 and other Bluetooth Headsets also have this problem.

turn off equalizer

Both equalizers of PocketMusic and Atom have been turned off, however the noise is still existing.

I've got the same poroblem, but I'm using a wizard/8125 with Globesat bth-820.

I also got the same problems with a K-Jam and a Motorola HT820.
I guess it is a problem with A2DP and some headsets.
And maybe it's the cause that the patch isn't officially released: They are afraid of the support towards their clients.
It doesn't bother me very much.

I tried
1. i-Tech S35
2. Gobalsat BT-830
3. Nokia HS-12W
with equalizer off (on/off don't have any effect) using WM10, TCPMP. High frequency noise apeears all the time when listening to music. See the following thread as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51162&sid=5d6de77e7db8bb9429d8d09f1633a5bc

I followed the instruction from this post to change the registry
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54621
almost 99% high frequency noise has been eliminated. Go ahead to try it.

Set as Hands Free

I'm somewhat puzzled about the terms Headset and Hands-free.
There is an option to set my BT headset as hands-free, but I have no idea what that does.
My BT headset (airoblue) is supposed to have an mp3 interface, but when I play an mp3, the sound comes out of the speaker.
I would like to hear all sound to go through my BT headset.
So there are 2 questions in the latter:
1. What is the difference between Headset and Handsfree?
2. Is it possible to have all sound go through my BT headset?
any ideas?
I can answer the first one.
Headset is pretty straightfoward...plug in your headset, use your bluetooth, etc
Handsfree is kind of like speakerphone I guess. No headset or accessories required, the sound is played thru the phone's main speaker instead of the earpiece, so that you can sit the phone on the desk in front of you and hold a conversation. (I haven't used this feature on my mini yet tho, so no idea how well it works and I *think* you activate this mode by holding down the green answer button onc the call has been answered).
I think you misunderstood the question bleepy. The latest Radio Stack of the Magician seems to implement the Handsfree Profile for bluetooth in addition to the Headset profile. The difference between these two is, that Handsfree has some additional capabilities compared to Headset. I think it allows voice dialing as well as initiating calls by the headset (therefore: Handsfree!). It is not meant for audio transmission and i doubt that the WaveOut of the Magician is linked to the bluetooth profile. That's what the A2DP profile is there for. This is not included in the Microsoft stack and i think currently also not available from third party developers. So I think you should forget about the audio streaming over the headset, also because the audio quality should be really bad since the handsfree profile wasn't developed for music streaming.
Thanks for the clear explanation.
I hoped there was a way, because it is nice to watch a movie or something in the plane, or bus.
Guess I'm stuck with the wired headset.

Poor BT Stereo (A2DP) quality?

I use a no brand Stereo BT headset on the Atom and found the quality is unacceptable poor. I just want to confirm if it's just me or it's a common problem for Atom.
I found the BT stereo quality very poor too. Tried
1. i-Tech S35
2. Gobalsat BT-830 (apart from stop/pause, AVRCP works fine with WM 10)
3. Nokia HS-12W (apart from stop/pause, AVRCP works fine with WM 10)
quality is way worser compared with the original headphone that came with Atom. I read somewhere this was due to the poor audio chipset used in Atom. Any way to fix that?
BTW, all the above 3 Bluetooth stereo headsets have excellent audio output when listening music from PC (using Widcomm 4.0.1.2800).
I believe it was due to the BT version used. I too tried
1. i-Tech R35 (V1.2)
2. Nokia HS-12W (V2.0)
When pairing both of them with Atom, the sound quality is not that good (always got hissing sound). The same applies when I use the i-Tech headset with my 818pro.
On the other hand, when I use the Nokia headset with 818pro (A2DP enabled), the quality becomes quite good (no significant difference from wired headsets). BTW, I think the Moto BT headset supports V2.0 too, and seems ppl around got some good experience with it and 818pro.
As I mainly use my Atom nowadays (my 818pro got the screen misalignment problem unfortunately), I already forgot about BT headsets.
From all you guys comments, I am not alone in having poor A2DP quality. It's a shame for giving out A2DP but unacceptable quality.
I-tech S35
Thanks so much for that information. I was really tempted to "upgrade" to an Atom from my Mini because the former had the built in bluetooth so it's a good thing to know I shouldn't upgrade because I was really after the A2DP functionality (since I thought the full release a2dp would be much better than the mini's "hacked" a2dp).
Maybe the stack used on the Atom is not that good. Have you tried upgrading the ROM?
[email protected]
what are u guys sayin ?
the quality of A2DP in my Atom (last ROM upgrade) is excellent !
and i do know how to appreciate the quality, cause i came from a V3x (quality was amazing too).
i am using the motorola HT-820.
the sound is much better than my crappy ipod video (to sell if someone interested)
to fix ur problems, u should :
1- upgrade to the latest rom.
2- turn the crappy equalizer off (its a really useless feature)
3- when u go to bluetooth settings, hold ur bluetooth device and '' set as wireless stereo''
that may be the key for clearer sound.
also i didnt like the equalizer (am i alone ?) i found that the speakers are worse than ever.
what do u guys think?

How's it compared with the using the original headset came with your Atom? For me, bluetooth A2DP is way worse.
I used the same i-Tech clip S35 on XDA 2i, and the A2DP qualitiy is as good as the wired headset came with XDA 2i.
Thanks.
Wired vs Wireless
ok, with the regular wired stereo headset the sound is Ok, but not that good if i compare to my ipod video.
i highly prefer the a2dp system as it seems ur inside a nightclub while using it.
but if i have to choose between the wired headsets or the HT820, i would rather go with the BT headset.
the only thing, is that dangerous for life ? (like getting brain cancer etc... wish not..)
As I mentioned before, I have tested all the combinations for 818pro, Atom (both with latest rom) and two BT headsets i-Tech R35 and Nokia HS-12W, and only found that the BT 2.0 combination, ie, 818pro with HS-12W, produces good enough music quality. For all other combinations, there is always some pretty obvious hizzing sound around when playing a soung. That hizzing sound is not background sound, as it won't appear if I stop playing any song. It only appears when a certain part of a song is played.
It seems to me that the hizzing sound is caused by insufficient bandwidth or over-compression of the data transmission (or both?). This also matches with my test result.
If I am using the 818pro (it is pending for repair), I will surely bring the HS-12W around. Otherwise, I will just stick with my wired adapter + Sony headset.
possible sol guys.
what is that ?
'' MSFP AKU 2.0 ''
it looks like a guy in another forum did an upgrade with this and got a superior sound etc...?

AKU 2.0 comes with support for A2DP.
In the case for XDA Atom, A2DP was supported on the day O2 released Atom.
A2DP quality in Atom was poor regardless of the Rom version, I tried the following roms:
1. 20060123B1WWE
2. Xda-Atom-ENG-20060123_Feb2006_.exe
3. R060221N_MN1ARC_RS00045
4. DSUU_ARC_C060414WWE_R060327N_EX0016__test_only_not_for_sale
5. Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426B1WWE
As described by buruburu, hizzing sound appears when a certain part of a song is played. Turning On/Off the equalizer doesn't seem to have any effect.
When listening the same song using wired headset, the quality was good, so can't be the problem of the song I am listening.
When listening the same Song using my PC (BT 1.2 with Widcomm 4.0.1.2800 stack), the quality was good as well.
So, no problem with the song I am listening, no problem with the BT Stereo headset I am using, no problem with the BT version (1.2 in Atom, 1.2 in PC; don't have BT 2.0, so can't tell) I am using, and my BT headset works fine making/receiving phone calls.
Conclusion:
1. the BT stack in Atom has a problem;
2. the audio chipset in Atom was a cheap and lousy one;
3. my Atom has a problem (I am in UK, don't have another Atom to test)
If it's (1), hope someone can fix it!!![/i]
tcmp
forgot to tell u guys : i get good quality cause i dont use crappy windows media player to play my mp3s, i use TCMP for every file i have.
and it works a charm.
the only thing i dont get, is that sometimes during the song play, it stops for a second then go back to it.
wierd

Aha! Finally found this topic. I'm on O² Atom + Jabra BT620s. The headset sound quality is superb stable on pc (5mb limit Bluesoil). On Atom... WM10 sounds too low even volume maxed, the equalizer doesn't work on A2DP. The best is on TCPMP where I can blast the pre-amp to make it louder. The quality is "ok²", hisses are seldom but hiccups exists once or twice in wma/mp3 tracks and too bad headset playback function only work on WM10 not TCPMP. And to click my headset when answering calls, I've to set TCPMP not to play on background, after clicking, I've to increase the headset volume.
Does any of you guys who's using other than Atom experience hiccups on A2DP? And those with Atom other than goldsaint? I don't think it's Jabra's but Atom fault itself. I've only SmallMenuPlus and O²Plus running in background (all startup removed), no battery/space monitors on today and overclocked to constant stable 520Mhz with XCPUScalar on the latest firmware. Thank you...
Am using I-Tech Clip S with my ATOM and sound quality is EXcellent!!! No hissing sound at all.
I highly recommend taking a look at the following,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54621
I had the same complaint, but these registry edits cleared up my quality problems almost entirely.
Tweaked the bitpool settings to 53 but did not recognize any improvement. The other 2 tweaks is useless for me-- whenever i used my I-Tech Clip S BT headset/wireless stereo, can't hear the other callers voice. Streaming audio to my Clip-S is OK but no noticeable difference.
Cheers
I've tried my two bluetooth stereo headset on HP-2210 , DOPOD 818Pro and O2 Atom, one thing is certain, the sound qulilaty in O2 Atom is worst and poor.I consider the problem is ROM Firmware.
Some of the tweaks cause more harm than good
I removed all traces of these tweaks by doing a hard-reset, and my bt stereo is just fine with the occassional break. 8)
IMHO we should not just apply every tweak just because someone posted  EG some one claims he installed Atom Exec ROM on regular Atom Now he has vamoosed when asked to share. Some one posted a 4-letter word due to the mess he had when he followed that line
Not to go against the current trend, but I entered the following into the reg editor and it made a huge improved in the sound quality using the Samsung SBH-100 headphones.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"BitPool"=dword:00000053
"SampleRate"=dword:00044100
Still get the occasional skip but fingers crossed something will come up to fix this soon.

Initial A2DP findings

Using the M3100 with the itech clip S35 Headset
firstly i've been using the fit4cat tweaker which has an A2DP quality improvememt tweak - unfortunately the tweak makes the quality worse so i've tuned it off and the music quality is not too bad when playing through my car stereo. However, I need to try some decent headphnes with the unit because the ones supplied sound very tinny!
Secondly, when you first pair the device, media player plays through the headset ok. If you then go out of range, when you return the headset re-pairs ok for the phone but the media player doesn't and it plays through the loudspeaker. You have to enter BT settings and recheck the stereo music option to have the sound through the headset again. Anybody getting this with the same or other headsets?
Thirdly, I have the S35 outputting through my car stereo. When people are calling me they can hear an echo (of themselves speaking as the sound comes out through the car speakers). There is some sort of delay i suppose but this is very annoying. I'm not sure why its happening because when I tried the headset using my Sony Ericsson W800i there was no such echo!
therfore, is the echo problem an A2DP thing (as the w800i does not support it and this works ok) or is it a m3100 thing? To test this I could turn off A2DP and ry the headset again - is this possible?
any suggestions appreciated
I have the Jabra BT620s headphones and I have indentical problems.
After install all works well but as soon as you disconnect media player just plays via the phone speaker
at least you guys get it to work once. WMP never plays through my iPAQ bluetooth headset. AVRCP controls work fine though. TCPMP plays fine through the bluetooth headset as long as I pair it up before I execute TCPMP. This is exactly how it worked with my 8125.
The WMP issue is very strange and is likely yet another example of the lack of QA testing in the A2DP portion of the TyTN's implementation. I would expect that these issues will all be fixed in a subsequent TyTN ROM update.
I'm getting on ok with this
quality is pretty good both using the headset with my own sony ear buds. Vast improvement over the itech supplied ear buds.
A2DP - no skipping during normal playback and it works well - quality is not an issue through the car stereo either - not bad at all . I've even been listening to music over A2DP and running sat nav using a GPS BT receiver. A slight pause in music when GPS connects but then all runs well.
My only 2 gripes are:-
1. When you disconnect or go out of range of the headset, it reconnect perfectly with the phone application. This isn't the case with the wireless stereo. I have to enter BT settings, uncheck the wireless stereo setting, save then recheck the setting before it reconnects. Slightly annoying but accesptable (for now)
2. the echo using the headset through my car stereo. People calling me can hear themselves again (about a 0.5 second delay) through the car speakers! Just to repeat my earlier post, this does not happen with my W800i. not sure if its an A2DP problem or something else.
Similarly here, I don't seem to be able to make A2DP (and the handsfree profile, for that matter) work.
Using HTC and an Itech clip, I am able to pair the "wireless stereo" and then play music for some 10 seconds on the GS Player, after which the Wireless Stereo symbol disappears from the top bar and the connection is interrupted. I actually believe that the Itech clip is 'shut off', as I have to turn it on again.
When I try to reconnect the headset, it just won't work and the whole machine is slowed down. Only a soft reset helps.
I hope this is a ROM problem (and not mine) and it'll be fixed soon...
WMP and the Itech clip work fine for me, with the current German ROM.
a2dp issues w/th Hermes
With the CHT9000 WWE rom I had the wireless stereo drop off after about 1 minute, then I would have to reconnect. I flashed to the other dopod WWE ROM (latest) and the problem is gone....sound is comparable to my prophet. Reg tweaks suggested in other forums definetely make the sound quality worse for either ROM version. I think further updated ROM's will improve A2DP reliability (or someone may find a reg hack)...as with the prophet A2DP it just takes time.
Hi guys, I've got the vario ii and the Sony Ericsson HBH-610.
I can add the headset fine and make calls through it, but I don't know how to get the music in wmp to play through it.
If anyone has a few mins spare and could explain it for me I would be really grateful
Headsets..HBH 610...
With my CHT 9000 I use an OMIZ 5660...works great for calls and wireless stereo. I don't have any other headset to compare it to (since I only have used this brand)....I believe that if your "options" do not list wireless stereo then you can't use the A2DP function on your device, at least as it is designed to be used.
I'm not aware of a one-piece headset that supports A2DP that is available (all should have either 2 headphones or two wired ear plugs)..
THE ONLY WAY, I FIND :
I have a 590A Plantronics Bluetooth HeadSet
You must refresh Services of your iTech or your Plantronics !
Go Parameters, Bluetooth, Select your Headset, Refresh.
Then reselect services and Save !
Each time you lost the link (Bluetooth turn off or ...) you will have to Refresh, reselect and Save !
I am searching for a Solve but not find another !
I forget something else !
It is the same thing with my Bluetooth GPS (GNS).
I have a spv m3100 and jabra bt620. They both work like a dream most of the time apart from having to go into bluetooth settings each time I want to connect to the stereo headset option.
I have noticed that when in my garden or at home (a quiet environment probably) that I have excellent streaming but when I am walking around, particularly in built up areas like shopping centres, high streets, tube trains, that there is some loss in the streaming which would seem to point towards some kind of interference.
Why the wireless stereo is set as mono as standard I can't understand. I'm sure its to do with improving the streaming quality, but they are supposed to be STEREO!!! Also I set the quality to 58 instead of 48 and there was a definite loss in streaming quality so I switched back to 48.
The AVRCP also works brilliantly in WMP.
The wireless connection also plays havoc with the bluetooth stereo connection with the buffering of stereo constantly dropping. Also noticed that AVRCP wont work with TCPMP, but as there seems to be some major issues with TCPMP and the Tytn I have uninstalled it for the time being until the guys at CorePacket come up with a fix

So far A2DP has worked fine for me with my Nokia HS-12W. I have applied some registry settings and optimised my SD card and so far it has played with hardly a skip. Definitely better than my previous BA with WM5.

This is probably headset dependent because with my Nokia HS-12W if i need to reconnect i just press the Audio button and it re-establishes the A2DP connection. No going to BT settings at all.
Interesting, can you just confirm what you mean by the Audio button. Is that just hitting 'Play' in WMP?
Thanks
No, the Nokia has a Music key (not Audio, my mistake) which switches from A2DP to the built-in radio. So if i have lost the BT connection pushing the Music key to select the Audio player will re-establish the connection and music is streamed to the headset. You will see the A2DP icon on the today screen when it has connected and get the chime in the headset.
Ok, thanks for that.
Just one last point, if the connection is lost while music is streaming, does the audio switch to the phone speaker instead??
My problem is I'll be listening to music on the subway then or some reason I'll loose the connection (interferance, low battery...whatever) and immediately music starts coming out the speaker, much to my embarrassment!
Thanks again!

Can anyone try A2DP?

I was wondering if the audio quality and sound stuttering has improved by using BT stereo headphones with Blackstone...
I have a trinity and i still haven't found a setting nor a rom nor a BT stack which handles my samsung headphones with a decent quality and no stuttering...
My cheap nokia 6234 has a solid connection and a good quality sound compared to the trinity... Plus, the A2DP connection slows my device down so much you have to pause if you want to do anything with it...
So if anyone could report about using bluetooth headphones with Blackstone, I would be very grateful as that would help me decide whether to buy or not
Thanks a lot

Great
I have the Touch HD for a few days now with the BH S100 HTC bluetooth headset. I have to say that the sound quality is great. It is even better than my conventional mp3 player.
Stable, never lost connection, etc.
Hope this helps.
I tried it today, with my Sony-headset.
It seems to stutter, though, for the five minutes I tested.
I have the Blackstone from seven day and the A2DP is OK with my Sony_Ericsson HBH-DS200.
The sound is very good and the pairing with the phone is immediatly in about 1 second.
Regards
reasonably OK with my Jabra BT620s. However, quality in BT A2DP is not really comparable with wired headsets, and i got some losses when passing nearby EM sources like wifi, etc.etc.
I needed to enhance the quality with Schaps Advanced Config Tool.
Alpine radio
I have an Alpine radio with bluetooth capabilities in my car, and for the first time I have a great connection with my HD. My Touch Diamond stuttered.
Thanks a lot everyone!
I guess it depends by the headset model and interferences then...
I'm still looking for a shop which would make me play with it for a little while...
i have a pioneer deh 700bt and the headunit set up was easier than the nokia n95
streaming music was a bit weird, the quality was very weird, kinda like very low bit rate streaming on mp3s at times, then fine again.
my n95 music used to pause when i took the key out of the ingnition and the stereo turn off
however the HD just keeps playing, but not through the speaker phone....just see it still playing
bit disappointed, and looking for a fix
I've only played for 10 mins, so i'll let you know if i find some more.
I have an Audi A3 from 2005 with a original BT carkit.
Can I use my HD to play some music ?
I can make phonecalls without a problem, if I adjust the volume of my carradio the volume from the HD is also adjusted.
But is there a possibility to play some music ?
Has anyone tried the Plantronics 855 Voyager stereo headset yet?
Also, I'm currently using the Jawbone 1 and noticed horrible interference/noise in the ear piece when the wifi is on, anyone else experience this?
I've never had any problems with the diamond and now with the hd. Like the senior man said, you need to increase the bluetooth bitpool values either in the registry or by using schaps tool. The difference in quality is immense - low values will make high bitrate music sound 64 kbps so you need to change this. Of course, the higher the bitpool the more chance of dropouts but I run at 60 and rarely, if ever have any dropouts.
Sennheiser MM200
Now if tested for almost one day my HD with my new Sennheiser MM 200. Amazing!!! The use of the MP3-Player switched with the use of the remote control to a new level. During sport display can be switched off(no need for touch display-less power consumption (try to give a more compareable info in future)), full control of play/pause/fwd/rwd/volume function. There is no delay of the HD in using the remote nor any transmission interruptings. Now the HD is with armwrest a perfect sport companion. The sound of the earphones - haven't had any better sound (and i've tried a lot of earplugs). Neckstrap fits perfect, mic in perfect position, clear speech and due to perfect noise reduction of the plugs even in noisy areas perfect understanding.
The Sennheiser was just charged the first time - i'll report the stamina.
So far -
I am using the i.Tech S35 bluetooth clip also on my HD now, and sound is very good, with WiFi on. Advantage of the clip is that one can use any headphones with it.

Bluetooth audio routing issues.

Hello all.
I've been having this somewhat annoying issue. I've tried a few of these bluetooth audio routers that let you use any bluetooth headset to listen to your music. I recently lost my old a2dp enabled bluetooth so I purchased a jawbone 2. The issue is that the audio routes to the jb2, but it sounds really low quality and low volume. This so far has been exactly the same with the following software: BTaudio, acbToggleBluetooth, BlueMusic, and BluetoothAudioRouter. Sucks because I just upgraded to DCD's latest rom hoping it was just an issue but wasted my time because I had to reinstall all of my cabs and have the same results lol. If anyone knows anything that could help, it would be much appreciated.

I am having the same problem. Any fixes?
Nothing, I've tried every program and many bt headsets, nada.
LOL- you guys are expecting A2DP quality from the handsfree/headset profile??
It doesnt work that way. Headset profile is heavily compressed to be roughly the same quality as a phone call (since it was designed for that purpose). When bluetooth throughput was enhanced in later revisions, they created the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), which allows for higher fidelity sound and stereo encoding for a decent wireless music experience.
The "routing" apps just take all output from the phone's audio system, and push it out to your standard earpeice using the headset profile. There's nothing wrong with your phone or headset, what you're hearing is a limitation of the bluetooth profile. It will at best sound like on-hold music, or someone playing music for you over a phone call.
Only way to get high quality is to use the high quality A2DP profile with a compatible headset.
How do we use the A2DP Profile?
To Dishe,
My HTC Raphael supports the A2DP profile so does my headset(it works flawelessly via bluetooth on my laptop) but i can't route music to the same headset via bluetooth.
Any ideas?
