How to setup GPRS or EDGE connections - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

I need to setup GPRS on my cell phone, but my phone carrier told me that they dont give support to phones bought on other countries.
Does someone know which are the steps for setting up the GPRS and be able to connect to internet when there is no WiFi??
Thanks
Oscar

Anyone?

Hi,
You have to know your operators acess point.
Then select Start>Settings>Connection>Connections>Add a new modem connection.
And fyll with your providers information.
Where do you live?
Regards
JoseF

I live in Peru, South America, and my operator is CLARO

Please do a search

You have to ask you provider for the actuall information.

Confused about GPRS

Can someone help, I'm confused about how GPRS works.
The situation is, I have a XDA on the O2 network. GPRS works fine in the UK.
I recently went to HK, and it didn't work.
Before I went to HK, I phoned the O2 help line and asked them specifically if I need to make any changes, they said 'NO', it should work without any changes similar to GSM international roaming.
By looking around this forum, its seems to me that information given to me is wrong.
Would it be correct to say that if I take my XDA to another country for a short trip, I need to set up the GPRS dial up to connect to whatever GPRS provider that exist in that country?
In other words, GPRS is not seemless like roaming GSM?
With GSM roaming it uses the SS7 network which all netorks connect to.
GPRS roaming never specified the mechanism to carry roaming traffic (as it was IP and not suitable for carrying over SS7).
Consequently there are about 4 public GRX networks that carry GPRS roaming traffic. For seemless GPRS roaming every operator has to connect to all 4.
O2 only has GPRS roaming agreements with a few operators in a few countries. For instance in France there is only a roaming agreement with SFR, so GPRS does work fine, without any changes in config on SFR only. GPRS roaming to O2 will not work on the other two networks.
O2 may have a GPRS roaming agreement with one operator in HK.
Vodafone will ONLY GPRS roam with other Vodafone group companies.
O2 UK do, indeed, have one agreement for GPRS roaming in Hong Kong. They were correct in saying no settings need changing - you are not connecting to the Hong Kong GGSN, after all.
Did you ask that all international roaming bars be lifted and reboot the unit at least 24 hours in advance of leaving the country?

GPRS settings for T-Mobile NL??

I downloaded the T-Mobile (NL) application for PPC2002 ("T-Mobile GPRS Connect") which should take care of the GPRS connections, but it does not work. It keeps complaining about not able to open the modem connection (I'm using the Cellular Line modem): "Can not find the name of the serial port".
Anybody any ideas?
It is a nice utility which displays the speed, send/received bytes and connection time, but useless sofar...
Marco
hey marco,
i bought a t-mobile pocket pc in the US and unlocked it. With my vodafone sim i now can do everythinh with the device. So I know how to make a GPRS connection to Vodafone, but don't know the settings for t-mobile.
A few days ago I also tried to install t-mobile app. but it sucks. I suggest you try to find out the correct settings with t-mobile nl to make a descent GPRS setting and not use the t-mobile application

International WAP

Hello All,
I am researching purchasing a SPV m1000 for my company to use as a phone and WAP device to check email through our WAP portal. After reading many, many of your postings it sounds like to use GPRS in different countries we will have to change the settings (ie. access points) in each country we visit. Is this correct? Does this become a pain to do? How do you get the settings for each country?
Also I understand that if GPRS is not available you can use WAP using just GSM at 9.6kbps. Do you just dial a number similar to a dial-up to connect to this? How well does it work?
Does GPRS usually work out more cost effictive than data through GSM? Which UK company seems to be the best when using in many different countries?
Thanks for any help,
Daniel
Hello,
The GPRS settings shouldn't change. It depends if your phone provider has roaming agreement worldwide.
I had a french phone provider, Bouyues, who had no agreement, so outside France I was stucked.
Now I am in Switzerland, Swisscom mobile has agreements worldwide and I can get access to WAP without any problem. Of course, it's more expensive... but it works without changing anything.

Aircel Edge settings

Does anyone know the GPRS/EDGE settings for Aircel for the HTC P3400? Their customer care is useless.....
Aircel GPRS Settings
Go to start>>Settings>>connections>>add a new modem connection
Now Enter name of the connection aircelgprs
select a modem cellular Line (GPRS)
Now click next and type aircelgprs wherever asked
thats it
it works
Well sometimes that doesnt work you could also try this
Start => Settings=> Connections=>
connection name: Aircel Online
select a modem: Cellular line GPRS
Access point name: aircelgprs
Remember alphabets are case sensitive.
OK, so can anybody give me GPRS/EDGE settings for Vodafone, India ?
I called the customer care but they don't know a thing.
So, if anybody knows then do share.
Thanks

Vodafone has two services, Live and Mobile Connect. Which one are you talking about?
For Vodafone Connect:
Provide www as the access point.
For Vodafone Live:
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390035
I think the access point name for aircel gprs is "aircelgprs.po" for post paid and "aircelgprs.pr" for prepaid. correct me if i am wrong. Restart your phone after configuring the connection.
I got same problem doing this also no internet conn.
error is cannot connect with current settings.
APN aircelweb, send PI to 121 first.
